• Inheritance vs specific types in Financial Modelling for cashflows

  Hello, I have to program some financial applications where I have to represent a schedule of flows. The flows can be of 3 types: - fee flow (just a lump payment at some date) - floating rate flow (the flow is dependant of an interest rate to be determined at a later date) - fixed rate flow (the flow is dependant of an interest rate determined when the deal is done) I need to keep the whole information and I need to represent a schedule of these flows. Originally I wanted to use inheritance and create three classes FeeFlow, FloatingFlow, FixedFlow all inheriting from ICashFlow and implement some method GetFlowType() returning an enum then I could dynamic_cast the object to the correct type. That would allow me to have only one vector to represent my schedule. What do you think of this design, should I rather use three vectors vector, vector and vector to avoid the dynamic casts ?

• Fast exchange of data between unmanaged code and managed code

  Hello: Without using p/invoke, from a C++/CLI I have succeeded in integrating various methods of a DLL library from a third party built in C. One of these methods retrieves information from a database and stores it in different structures. The C++/CLI program I wrote reads those structures and stores them in a List<, which is then returned to the corresponding reading and use of an application programmed completely in C#. I understand that the double handling of data (first, filling in several structures and then, filling all of these structures into a list<) may generate an unnecessary overload, at which point I wish C++/CLI had the keyword "yield". Depending on the above scenario, do you have recommendations to avoid or reduce this overload? Thanks.

  I download the Gurobi package for linear programming. I import the corresponding gurobi.jar package. Then run the example program. Then it appears the following errors: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: C:\gurobi460\win64\win64\bin\GurobiJni46.dll: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform Then I downloaded the window 64 bit Jre, and use the "window--preference--Installed JRE" to install this new JRE. However, it still appeared this error. Could you help me? Thank you !

• Catching "NullPointerExceptions" in JavaScript

  I'm writing quite a bit of code in Prototype.js which returns null if a DOM-id wasn't found. $("someId").show(); If someId doesn't exist, a method will be called on null, which halts the entire program, in effect disabling all JS effects after the error. I could just check for null before executing such a statement, but this is getting tiring. I would like to catch an exception but I'm not sure which one its is. MDC lists the following ECMA Script error types: * Error * EvalError * RangeError * ReferenceError * SyntaxError * TypeError * URIError * DOMException * EventException * RangeException Also, do browsers have a unified way of dealing with a method call on null?

• How can I make an Access database readable from the web while it is open in MS Access?

  I have a website using ASP with an MS Access DB back-end for storing mainly blog posts. My company has a very long software approval process so I am stuck with what I have (i.e. I must use Access). I use server-side javascript to retrieve posts stored in the database using OLEDB calls. Everything works fine except that I cannot read any tables from the database when it is open in the MS Access program. The page displays an error message about the file being in use. This could lead to significant downtime while I am doing any work within Access. How can I make the file readable by my ASP application while it is open in Access?

• Authentication Failed exception - In the middle of bulk mail sending code.

  We have a thread program that sends bulk mail. The information like 1. To 2. Subject Etc., are fetched from database, mail is composed and pushed to SMTP server. One of our customer sent a bulk mail with 2390 email. After sending 40 emails, suddenly the following exception occurred EXCEPTION javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException STACKTRACE javax.mail.Service.connect(Service.java:306) javax.mail.Service.connect(Service.java:156) javax.mail.Service.connect(Service.java:105) ............... java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) and the rest 2350 emails failed. • Copying blocks (ie: copying them to instance variables) in Objective-C

  I'm trying to understand blocks. I get how to use them normally, when passed directly to a method. I'm interested now in taking a block, storing it (say) in an instance variable and calling it later. The blocks programming guide makes it sound like I can do this, by using Block_copy / retain to copy the block away, but when I try to run it I crash my program. - (void) setupStoredBlock { int salt = 42; m_storedBlock = ^(int incoming){ return 2 + incoming + salt; }; [m_storedBlock retain]; } I try to call it later: - (void) runStoredBlock { int outputValue = m_storedBlock(5); NSLog(@"When we ran our stored blockwe got back: %d", outputValue); [m_storedBlock release]; } Anyone have any insights? • Using CreateFileMapping between to programs - C

  Hello, I have two window form applications written in C, one holds a struct consisting of two integers, another will receive it using the CreateFileMapping. Although not directly related I want to have three events in place so each of the processes can "speak" to each other, one saying that the first program has something to pass to the second, one saying the first one has closed and another saying the second one has closed. What would be the best way about doing this exactly? I've looked at the MSDN entry for the CreateFileMapping operation but I'm still not sure as to how it should be done. I didn't want to start implementing it without having some sort of clear idea as to what I need to do. Thanks for your time.

• C++ networking simple send and receive

  I'm trying to link 10 computers together, the program i would like to write would have one 'control' computer. From what I've looked up this computer would take all the packets sent over the network and do a echo with them... right? The other computers would need to be able to send information (then echoed to the others) to the 'control' ... is there a easy! or simple way to do this? From what I've seen i want a non-blocking socket? I have looked into sockets and such but for an armature programmer like me, this seems like a daunting task :) I'm kind-of looking for an easy class implication that has a send() and an event driven recv(). I'm not going to be sending that much information over the network.

• Location of various javax.xml.* packages within the Java 6 SDK.

  Alright, so recently I was using Notepad++ for all of my programming needs, but I've started using Eclipse for larger-scale Java projects now. I decided to pick up an old project of mine which used various classes within the "javax.xml.*" namespaces. When I was compiling and running the program with Notepad++ it worked just fine, however Eclipse can't seem to find these packages. My question is this, since I obviously have the classes somewhere within my current installation of JDK 6 (since I had no problems when using Notepad++), where can I find the location of the .JAR file(s) that include these namespaces/classes so that I can add them to my Eclipse project?   I would like to enroll my company in to the iPhone Developer Program for $99. I have a few questions, which I can't really find an answer to, because Apple aren't very detailed in their pages unless you actually registered. So here goes: 1.) Is the $99 paid yearly? 2.) It says when distributing free apps there's no fee, but if I want to distribute a $0.99 app, what is the fee then? Is it huge? Or..? 3.) Can I keep track of how many people bought my app anytime? 4.) • How can I position QDockWidgets as the screen shot shows using code?

  I want a Qt window to come up with the following arrangement of dock widgets on the right. Qt allows you to provide an argument to the addDockWidget method of QMainWindow to specify the position (top, bottom, left or right) but apparently not how two QDockWidgets placed on the same side will be arranged. • Linux binary built for 2.0 kernel wouldn't execute on 2.6.x kernel.

  I was installing a binary Linux application on Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64. The app shipped with an old version of gzip (1.2.4), that was compiled for a much older kernel: $ file gzip gzip: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.0.0, stripped I wasn't able to execute this program. If I tried, this happened: $ ./gzip -bash: ./gzip: No such file or directory ldd was similarly unhappy with this binary: $ ldd gzip not a dynamic executable This isn't a showstopper for me, since my installation has a working version of gzip I can use. But I'm curious: What's the most likely source of this problem? A corrupted file? Or a binary incompatibility due to being built for a much older {kernel,libc,...}?

• Why would I get a bus error or segmentation fault when calling free() normally?

  I have a very simple test program, running on Solaris 5.8: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(void) { char *paths; paths = getenv("PATH"); printf("Paths: %s\n", paths); free(paths); // this causes a bus error return 0; } If I don't call free() at the end, it displays the message fine and exits. If I include the free() call, it crashes with a bus error. I've had other calls to free(), in other programs, cause segmentation faults as well. Even if I allocate the memory for *paths myself, free() will cause a bus error. Is there some reason trying to free up the memory is causing a crash?

• printf not passing correct Hex Address to stack

  I have a hickup in using printf . I am on ubuntu 10.04. Basically i have a C program asking for some input and then prints it back. It is OK for printing something after inputing. I tried to insert some Hex Address to Stack by following format:- printf "hello world!\x12\x23\x34" | ./input1 But i don't know what is the problem. If i give only string beyond 12 bytes it overwrites BUT If I give hex address(through printf), it doesn't overwrite on return address. Instead it stores some other thing. Could anyone help??? I can't proceed further becoz of this. Thanks in advance

• asp.net 3.5 on windows 2000

  Hi, I am trying to get an ASP.net 3.5 site to run on a windows 2000 machine (not my idea!!!) but am having some problems. I have been working through copying required dlls from C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5 into my app bin directory. This succesfully got me past the "assembly not found" errors. However, I am now getting the error: "Compiler executable file csc.exe cannot be found". Does anyone know how I can fix this? It is primarily LINQ functionality I am looking to utilise. Many thanks!!

• Import Data from text file into sql DB using CSLA

  I am trying to import data from ~ Delimited Text file into SQL Server using CSLA. My text file has 92,000 records in it. Here are the issues i am having with the import When i create a BusinnessListBase .new and add all my records to it, it gives me a "Out of meory exception". So to fix it i create a new bussinessbase object and save it. this works fine and is much faster too. It takes 15 minutes I have to run my program again and check for any changes and hence update them, this is where it takes too much time. Is there any alternative way to speed up my import?

• Linux Kernel - Adding field to task_struct

  I'm playing around with the linux kernel and added a struct field to the task_struct in sched.h. I know that can be costly but my struct is very small. I then initialize the new struct in INIT_TASK() and also re-initialize in fork.c copy_process() function so that when the INIT task or any other task creates a new process the process gets the init values. What then happens is when I try to run the kernel I get a SEGFAULT. The gdb error is: Locating the bottom of the address space ... Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x08066ad7 in page_ok (page=) at arch/um/os-Linux/sys-i386/task_size.c:31 31 n = *address; It looks like it fails out in task_size. Is there anything else I need to do to add a field to task_struct?

  I am trying to use "printf" in my Visual C++ project however it is not working. • What's wrong with XOR encryption?

  I wrote a short C++ program to do XOR encryption on a file, which I may use for some personal files (if it gets cracked it's no big deal - I'm just protecting against casual viewers). Basically, I take an ASCII password and repeatedly XOR the password with the data in the file. Now I'm curious, though: if someone wanted to crack this, how would they go about it? Would it take a long time? Does it depend on the length of the password (i.e., what's the big-O)?
