• svn for eclipse on mac os lion

  I need to use Subversion with Eclipse on Mac Lion. I encounter problem as below I saw: Subclipse in Mac OS Lion In my context: I use Mac OS Line 10.7.2 Eclipse version: 3.7.1 64 bit I install Subversion: Universal Subversion 1.6.17 Binaries for Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) in the page: http://www.open.collab.net/downloads/community/ I install Subclipse by the "Install New Software..." feature of Eclipse with the update link: http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.8.x It install Subclipse 1.8.2, JavaHL 1.7.1.1 and some other packages. When I go to menu Preferences/ Team / SVN , it produce error: "Incompatible JavaHL library loaded. 1.7.x or later required." I find to install SVN Kit, so use it instead of JavaHL as the very first link refer (here), but I don't see it in Subclipse package.

  hello everyone, I am porting an application from foxpro to C#.Net. This is a wine shop billing software. I think listview can help me in this regard but don't know how to implement. i figured out that each row of listview should have 2 textbox, 1 combobox and few textblock or label. Not only this but cursor should jump from one control to other control using "Enter/Return" key instead of "Tab" key. Please help me with some code lines. Please guys help me......

• How to get started with embedded systems in the aircraft or submarine industries?

  Hi, Not 100% sure how to frame this question but here goes... I currently work as a Rails developer but want to work on more substancial / "meaty" projects and have always been very interested in embedded systems, especially systems that run on aircraft and especially submarines.....I know strange combination. I have been doing some searching & found lockheed martin produces a lot of underwater systems for various navys around the world e.g. http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/nssn/ However, there is very little information about what software is used within these systems, what OS's they use or anything else "technical", presume there is a lot of C / C++ involved but that is just a guess... so its hard to know where to even begin learning what is required to potential work in these areas. Just wondering if anyone has any experiance working with or more information about embeddeed systems in either the airline (onboard flight systems) or especially submarine systems? Thanks!

• Java Program Design Layout Recommendations?

  I've learned enough to begin writing programs from scratch, but I'm running into the problem of not knowing how to design the layout and implementation of a program. To be more precise, I'm having difficulty finding a good way to come up with an action plan before I dive in to the programming part. I really want to know what classes, methods, and objects I would need beforehand instead of just adding them along the way. My intuition is leading me to using some kind of charting software that gives a hierarchal view of all the classes and methods. I've been using OmniGraffle Pro and while it does seem to work somewhat, I'm still having trouble planning out the program in its entirety. How should I approach this problem? What softwares out there are available to help with this problem? Any good reads out there on this issue? Thanks so much! Edit: Oh yeah, I'm using Eclipse and I code mainly in Java right now.

Of course, I'm using a basic MVC design and my question concerns the Model layer. For my application, the Model represents data fetched on the Internet with a XML-RPC API. I'm planning to use Core Data to represent a locally fetched version. How should the data be loaded initially?   I am validating constructor and method arguments, as I want to the software, especially the model part of it, to fail fast. As a result, constructor code often looks like this public MyModelClass(String arg1, String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { if(arg1 == null) { throw new IllegalArgumentsException("arg1 must not be null"); } // further validation of constraints... // actual constructor code... } Is there a way to do that with an annotation driven approach? Something like: public MyModelClass(@NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class, message="arg1 must not be null") String arg1, @NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class) String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { // actual constructor code... } In my eyes this would make the actual code a lot more readable.   I have a movie, and I want to produce a new movie out of it with an area blurred (e.g. an object, a writing or a face). The area is moving, so I must have fine control of the current frame and move the position of the blur area accordingly. Blur is an option, but also a dark mask is fine too. Now, I have a question open at superuser on which software to use, but since I suspect I will have to buy adobe premiere to do something like this, and I don't want to shell out a kidney for something I have to do once, I am thinking about coding it myself in python. What are the best libraries available for this task ?

  In using the m4_ax_python_module.m4 macro in configure.ac (AX_PYTHON_MODULE), one can know at configure time if a given module is installed. It takes two arguments, the module name, and second argument which if not empty, will lead to an exit, useful when the module is a must-have. In the case where you don't want a fatal exit, how do you test in configure.ac which modules were found or not? They output "yes" or "no" when configure is run, but that's all I've found so far. Basically If I have these lines in configure.ac: AX_PYTHON_MODULE(json,[]) AX_PYTHON_MODULE(simplejson,[]) How do I test which of the two modules were found? • Algorithm to emulate mouse movement as a human does?

  Hello I need to test a software that treats some mouse movements as "gestures". For such a task I need to emulate mouse movement from point A to point B, not in straight line, but as a real mouse moves - with curves, a bit of jaggedyness etc. Is there any available solution (algorithm/code itself, not a library/exe) that I can use? Of course I can write some simple sinusoidal math by myself, but this would be a very crude emulation of a human hand leading a mouse. Perhaps such a task has been solved already numerous times, and I can just borrow an existing code? :)

• Console Utility that can remote connect to other systems and issue commands

  Hi Frequenlty my work involves to VNC to a remote system and work on it. SInce i run command line apps on this remote system most of the time, i was wondering if there's an alternative software to command prompt which i could install on my local machine. Using this i should be able to create a session with the remote system and from then on all commands issued in command prompt should run in remote system. localHostdir -- should list the directory contents in remotehost active directory localhostapp.exe should run app.exe in remote host and display its contents in localhost command prompt I browsed a little and read about cmdlets in powershell. But it looks like i need to write a cmdlet for each app in the path (dir, mkdir, app.exe in the path). Correct me if am wrong. Once session is established, i simply need the commands invoked in local host to be run in the remote host and return the console output to local host. Please let me know if powershell + cmdlets are the only way THanks

• Best protocol for client/server communication, from PHP/Perl to C++/Qt4

  I'm the author of an Open Source kiosk management system, Libki. The current version, though functional, was very much a learning experience for me. I'm working on a complete rewrite and am having a hard time deciding what protocol to use. The server will be written in PHP or Perl. Most likely PHP because I need to support some uncommon protocols that Library software use, ( SIP and NCIP ). So far I've only found a SIP2 library in PHP. The client is written in C++/Qt4. I'm looking at RPC and REST for client/server communication. I've found RPC client libraries for Qt4, and REST is already part of the Qt4 libraries. Is there an alternative I've missed? So far, REST seems to be the winner.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders The value for the path of the All Users desktop, which is found there, is as follows: XP or earlier : [%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop] Vista or later: [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] Whereas the actual paths of the All User desktops, respectively, are as follows: XP or earlier : "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop" Vista or later: "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" Now, if you use copy and paste the above registry values in Windows Explorer and hit enter it takes you to the actual folders. For example, if you paste [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] in a Windows Explorer in Vista it takes you to ["C:\Users\Public\Desktop"]. My question is this; how do I reproduce this behavior from withing a C# program? To be more specific, if I retrieve the registry value [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] from withing a C# program, which I can do easily, how do I convert it to ["C:\Users\Public\Desktop"]? Obviously I'm not looking for a string replacement, I need to do what Windows does.

• Unusual Subversion Folders Appeared After Update

  Hello Everyone, I have been using Subversion for about 2 years to manage a large C# project. On a recent Subversion update, a number of new folders were added to my source code folder: \conf \db \locks \hooks 35+ files were also added during the update, all appearing under the 4 new folders. I haven't changed any client (I use TortoiseSVN) or server software related to Subversion, so I'm puzzled why these folders and files were suddenly introduced. It also seems strange that files seemingly related to the internal workings of Subversion are now part of my source code repository. Can anyone shed some light on why this happened? • Is Python a beginner language or is it robust?

  I am already working on some software in Python but I'm having one of those days where I step back and reflect just to make sure I'm not spinning my wheels. I know that Twitter launched with RoR because it was fast to build. Then they almost moved into another language in 2008 because of scalability issues. This has caused me to step back and introspect for a moment to make sure I'm heading down the right path. I've read in some tutorials and other places that Python is "a great first language" or a "nice beginner language" as though it's not capable of larger tasks. I look at it as Python can do what Java or ASP can but with about 1/4th of the code, not to mention I don't have to build or compile, etc. I've read that Java runs quite a few times faster than Python which is important of course, but then I read everywhere that hardware keeps getting cheaper and there are projects like Unladen Swallow by Google to make Python faster. Should I be concerned or is this just the remnants of Java developers?

• .NET Multipage Tiff with Lossy Compression

  I need a way to take several jpgs and convert them into a single multi page Tiff. I have that working using GDI+ however it only works with the compression LZW which is lossless. This means that my 3 50KB Jpgs turn into 3MB multipage Tiff file. This is not something I can accept for the software that I am working on. I know that Tiff Image format can use a JPG compression scheme but GDI+ does not seem to support this. If anyone knows how to do this in .NET (C#) or of any component that does this conversion.

• installing Delphi5 pro in windows 64b

  Please dont laugh . Over the past 15 years or so I've written all the software that runs my medical practice in D5. Last week when I went to DelphiArea to update a component I got attacked and my disk became unbootable/unrecoverable. I have my original D5p disk and all the components backed up but I want to migrate to W7. I don't care if my delphi apps look like vista/7, I just want to be able to install it and code on the machine again for maintenance purposes. 1) are there any tricks to install D5 so it works in W7? 2) is using a vm program really the only/best way? if so, which is suggested.
