• ASP.NET membership db using integrated security problem

  I published ASP.NET MVC web site to a server on a virtual machine (Hyper-V). SQL Server Express installed on the same server. The problem is that ASP.Net Membership system doesn't work in integrated mode. When Web.config file contains records as follows: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="MyDBConnectionString" connectionString="data source=vm-1\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=testdb;Integrated Security=SSPI;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> I get an error when trying to register and login to the site. If I change connection string this way: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="MyDBConnectionString" connectionString="data source=vm-1\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=testdb;User ID=XX;Password=XXXXXXX;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> I could register and login without any problem. What could cause the problem with using ASP.NET membership database in integrated security mode?

• Visual Studio 2010 / ASP.NET MVC / Publish

  I just did a clean install on Windows 7 x64 Professional with the final release of Visual Studio 2010 Premium. In order to duplicate what I'm experiencing do the following in: Create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 Web Application Right click the project and select Properties On the Web tab, select "Use Local IIS Web Server" Click on Create Virtual Directory Save all Unload the project Edit the project file Change MvcBuildViews to true Save all Reload project Right click the project and select Publish Choose the file system publish method Enter a target location Choose Delete all existing files Select Publish Right click the project Select Publish Each time I do the above I get the following errror: "It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level..." The error originates from obj\debug\package\packagetmp\web.config, relative to the project directory. I can repeat this all day long with any MVC 2 project I've built. In order to fix this problem, I need to set MvcBuildViews to false in the project file. That's not really an option. This wasn't a problem in Visual Studio 2008 and it seems to be an issue with the way the Publish command stages files beneath the project directory. Can anyone else duplicate this error? Is this a bug or by design? Is there a fix, workaround, etc...? Thanks.

• python VTE Terminal weirdness

  i'm trying to use the terminal from python VTE binding (python-vte from debian squeeze) as a virtual terminal emulator (just for ANSI/control chars text processing) in interactive python console, everything looks (almost) all right: >>> import vte >>> term = vte.Terminal() >>> term.feed("a\nb") >>> print repr(term.get_text(lambda *a: True).rstrip()) 'a\n b' however, launching this code (little modified) as python script, different result is yielded: $ python vte_wiredness_1.py '' strangely enough, pasting the code back into the (new) interactive python session also yields empty string: >>> import vte >>> term = vte.Terminal() >>> term.feed("a\nb") >>> print repr(term.get_text(lambda *a: True).rstrip()) '' >>> first thing caming on my mind was that the only difference between the two cases is the timing - there had to be some delay before get_text. unfortunately, preluding get_text with some seconds sleep did not help then i thought it has something to do with X window environment. but the results are the same pure linux console (with some warning on missing graphics). i wonder what causes such an unpredictable behavior (interactive console - pasted vs typed, and it's not the delay.. ant the interactive console has nothing to do with the vte terminal object.. i guess) can someone explain what is happening? is it possible to use the VTE Term such way? that the "b" letter in the output is preceded by the space, is another strangeness (all consecutive lines are preceded by more spaces.. looks like I have to send carriage return before the string.) (the lambda *a: True get_text method argument i'm using is a dummy callback, it's is some SlotSelectedCallback.. for its explanation i'd be grateful as well :) )

• Simplest way to debug an android bluetooth application

  I am trying to test and build a sample android application that can simply connect to a BT server to send and receive a few packets. Since the emulator has no support what is the next best thing to test BT communication? Can I just run a code that acts as a server on my laptop and dumps BT connection onto a console? Do I have to write this code, or is their a simple tool that saves me that hassle? One more thing, I have windows 7, and currently I attach to my PC an anycom USB BT adapter. This is able to show up my nexus one as a BT device. I can pair to my laptop but connection always fails. When it tries to pair I have tried both 0000 and 1234 as suggested on my nexus, but in my connection list it still lists my laptop as paired but not connected. Any idea why? I searched for this problem and apparently people talk about rebooting and power cycling BT, but these solutions dont work for me. Thanks. Affan.

• Help using RDA on a Desktop Applicaton?

  I have a .NET 3.5 Compact Framework project that uses RDA for moving data between its mobile device's local SqlCe database and a remote MSSql-2008 server(it uses RDA Push and Pull). The server machine a virtual directory with sqlcesa35.dll (v3.5.5386.0) setup for RDA. We usually install these cabs on the mobile devices and the RDA process does not have any problems: sqlce.wce5.armv4i.cab sqlce.repl.wce5.armv4i.cab Now I am trying to run this application as a desktop application. RDA Pull (download) has been working well. But the RDA Push (upload) is giving me some problems. This is the exception that I get on the desktop application when I try to use RDA Push: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException The Client Agent and Server Agent component versions are incompatible. The compatible versions are: Client Agent versions 3.0 and 3.5 with Server Agent versions 3.5 and Client Agent version 3.5 with Server Agent version 3.5. Re-install the replication components with the matching versions for client and server agents. [ 35,30,Client Agent version = ,Server Agent version = ] I have tried copying the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Desktop\SqlServerCe.dll (v3.5.5692.0) to bin\debug I have also tried copying another version of SqlServerCe.dll (v3.0.5206.0) to bin\debug. But this just gives me a slightly different exception: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException [ 35,30 ] Is there a different setup or any different dlls that I need to use? Thanks, -Joel

• COM-Objects containing maps / content error(0)

  I'm writing a small wrapper to get familiar with some important topics in C++ (WinAPI, COM, STL,OOP). For now, my class shall be able to create a (child) window. Mainly, this window is connected to a global message loop that distribute messages to a local loop of the right instance (global is static, local is virtual). Obviously, there are surely better ways to do that but I'm using std::maps to store HWND and their instance pointer in pairs (the Global loop looks for the pointer with the HWND-parameter, gets itself the pointer from the map and calls then the local loop). Now, it appears that the map does not accept any values because of a unknown reason. It seems to allocate enough space but something went wrong anyway [ (error) 0 is displayed instead of the entries in visual C++). I've looked that up in google as well and found out that maps cause some trouble when used in classes AND DLLs. May this be the reason and is there any solution?? • ASMX Web Service online works when all of the code is in one file without code-behind

  I have an ASMX Web Service that has its code entirely in a code-behind file, so that the entire contents of the .asmx file is: <%@ WebService Language="C#" CodeBehind="~/App_Code/AddressValidation.cs" Class="AddressValidation" %> On my test machine (Windows XP with IIS 5), I set up a virtual directory just for this ASP.NET 2.0 solution and everything works great. All my code is separated nicely and it just works. However, when we deployed this solution to our Windows Server 2003 development environment, we noticed that the code only compiled when all of the code was dropped directly into the .asmx file, meaning that the solution didn't work with code-behind. We can't figure out why this is happening. One thing that's different about our setup in our development environment is that instead of creating a separate virual directory just for this solution, we dropped it into an existing directory that runs a classic ASP application. So here we have a folder with an ASP.NET 2.0 application within a directory that contains a classic ASP application. Granted, everything in the ASP.NET 2.0 application works if all of the code is within the .asmx file and not in code-behind, but we'd really like to know why it's not recognizing the code-behind files and compiling it correctly.

  Hi,guys, I want to know more detail of memory allocation strategy in D3D10Device. Could you give me some help? First questions is: I know D3D10 has done some work on memory virtualization that means client don't need to consider where the buffer was reserved, GPU memory, AGP memory or Process system memory. Is this correct? Second question is: When I use ID3D10Device to CreateBuffer continuously, no matter what buffer desc type is, for example ID3D10Device::CreateBuffer( ... D3D10_USAGE_DEFAULT ... ); ID3D10Device::CreateBuffer( ... D3D10_USAGE_IMMUTABLE ... ); ID3D10Device::CreateBuffer( ... D3D10_USAGE_DYNAMIC ... ); ID3D10Device::CreateBuffer( ... D3D10_USAGE_STAGING ... ); etc, if CreateBuffer return error code "E_OUTOFMEMORY", does that mean process virtual memory is exhausted? • What is the best way to save the environment from before an alarm handler goes off when the alarm do

  I'm trying to implement user threads on a 2.4 Linux kernel (homework) and the trick for context switch seems to be using an alarm that goes off every x milliseconds and sends us to an alarm handler from which we can longjmp to the next thread. What I'm having difficulties with is figuring out how to save the environment to return to later. Basically I have an array of jmp_buffs, and every time a "context switch" using the alarm happens I want to save the previous context to the appropriate entry of the array and longjmp to the next one. However, just the fact that I need to do this from the event handler means that just using setjmp in the event handler won't give me exactly the kind of environment I want (as far as stack and program counter are involved) because the stack has the event handler call in it and the pc is in the event handler. I suppose I can look at the stack and alter it to fit my needs, but that feels a bit cumbersome. Another idea I had is to somehow pass the environment before the jump to event handler as a parameter to the event handler, but I can't figure out if this is possible. So I guess my question is- how do I do this right?

• Control Attributes render Encoded on dot net 4 - how to disable the encoding ?

  I have an issue in asp.net 4. When I add an attribute on controls, then the render it encoded. For example, when I type this code txtQuestion.Attributes["onfocus"] = "if(this.value == this.title) { this.value = ''; this.style.backgroundColor='#FEFDE0'; this.style.color='#000000'; }"; I get render onfocus="if(this.value == this.title){this.value = &#39;&#39;;this.style.backgroundColor=&#39;#FEFDE0&#39;; this.style.color=&#39;#000000&#39;;}" And every ' hash been change to & #39; Is there a way to disable this new future only on some controls ? or an easy way to make a custom render ? My Fail tries I have all ready try some thinks but I fail. For example this fails. txtQuestion.RenderingCompatibility = new Version("3.5"); I also locate the point that this attributes renders and is on public virtual void RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag tagKey) function, there every attribute have a flag if he wish to be encoded, but I do not know how can anyone set it or not. • Raising C# events with an extension method - is it bad?

  We're all familiar with the horror that is C# event declaration. To ensure thread-safety, the standard is to write something like this: public event EventHandler SomethingHappened; protected virtual void OnSomethingHappened(EventArgs e) { var handler = SomethingHappened; if (handler != null) handler(this, e); } Recently in some other question on this board (which I can't find now), someone pointed out that extension methods could be used nicely in this scenario. • oracle query with inconsistent results

  Im having a very strange problem, i have a complicated view that returns incorrect data when i query on a particular column. heres an example: select empname, has_garnishment from timecard_v2 where empname = 'Testerson, Testy'; this returns the single result 'Testerson, Testy', 'N' however, if i use the query: select empname, has_garnishment from timecard_v2 where empname = 'Testerson, Testy' and has_garnishment = 'Y'; this returns the single result 'Testerson, Testy', 'Y' The second query should return a subset of the first query, but it returns a different answer. • What is a good programming language/environment for Linux database applications?

  I could use some advice on my move from the Windows world to Linux. For my business, I have used VB6 and Microsoft Access with both Access databases and SQL server in the past. The easy to use forms, report writers and programming language were perfect for CRUD apps and analysis for our small hotel/restaurant business. After using Linux at home for some time I would like to convert our small business. Our server is already a Linux box using Samba. I am happy with the OpenOffice.org applications instead of Microsoft Office. The only thing which is holding me back is a desktop database application where I can develop the forms and reports we require. Base does not seem to be up to the job yet from my experience. I would like something like VB.Net with visual studio (express) but I would like to avoid Mono – I just don’t see the point of it. (You can correct me if I’m wrong.) But a good collection of forms, controls and a good report writer would be ideal. I have looked at web based stuff like Ruby on Rails, but I think a webserver for our 5 pc network is overkill. I don’t mind running a proper database on our Ubuntu 9.10 server. I may have exposed a few prejudices above but my mind is open. Any thoughts?

• WPF PasswordBox Input Panel Icon Not Appearing: Better Workaround?

  Hello, There is a known issue in WPF where the Input Panel icon does not appear when you set focus on a PasswordBox control. I'm in need of a workaround for this, but the one suggested -- using the ITextInputPanel API -- does not quite cut it for me. Fist of all, the API works with Windows Forms controls and alternatively accepts control handles. Since WPF controls are not handle based, and they are not Forms controls, this is not quite suitable. I tried hosting a Forms control on my WPF page and that worked on the Windows XP Tabled PC (albeit with some COM exceptions) but, since there is no PasswordBox in Forms, I had to stick with a regular textbox, which is not what I need. Alternatively, using the VisualTreeHelper to get a handle on the control did not work, either. The API, according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms699559%28VS.85%29.aspx, is only compatible with Vista. I'm dealing with Windows XP tablets. I understand that the IPenInput API can be used as an alternative, but it is now deprecated. Can someone please suggest something? I really need to fix this issue. Thanks in advance!

  Hello, So I want to create a JDBC connection to MySQL server that is installed on my pc, here are the steps, I installed MySQL with the username and password "root", downloaded mysql-connector-java and from theere I coped the JAR "mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin" to "C:\Sun\SDK\jdk\jre\lib\ext", I then added it as an external JAR in my project in eclipse, now in my class I have this code: public void initialiseDatabase() { try { // Load the Driver class. • RichEdit VCL and URLs. Workarounds for OnPaint Issues.

  So, issue is with the thing Delphi progies scare to death - Rich Edit in Windows ( XP and pre-XP versions ). Situation: I have added EM_AUTOURLDETECTION in OnCreate of form. Target - RichEdit1. Then, I have form, that is "collapsed" after showing form. RichEdit Control is sattic, visible and enabled, but it is "hidden" because form window is collapsed. I can expand and collapse form, using Button1 and changing forms Constraints and Size properties. After first time I expand form, the URL inside RichEdit1 control is highlighted. BUT - After second, third, fourth, etc... time I Collapse and Expand form, the RichEdit1 Control does not highlight URL anymore. I have tried EM_SETTEXTMODE messages, also WM_UPDATEUISTATE, also basic WM_TEXT message - no luck. It sems like this merssage really works ( enables detection ) while sending keyboard strokes ( virtual keycodes ), but not when text has been modified. Also - I am thinking to rewrite code to make RichEdit Control dynamic. Would this fix the problem? Maybe solution is to override OnPaint / OnDraw method to avoid highlight ( formatting ) losing when collapsing or expanding form? Weird is that my Embarcadero Documentation says this function must work in any moment text has been modified. Why it does not work? Any help appreciated.   Hi, today I just tried to play a little bit around with the opcodes in compiled java class file. There's only one section in the resulting class file, which contains 0x84: [..] 8401 0184 0101 8401 01[..] So I would translate this as: iinc 1,1 iinc 1,1 iinc 1,1 corresponding to my i++; i++; i++; I then tried to append just 840101 to increment the variable once more, but that didn't work and resulted in the ClassFormatError. Is there anything like a checksum for the class file? I looked up the format of a classfile in http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/html/ClassFile.doc.html but could not find anything which points out to some kind of bytes_of_classfile or something. I also don't understand why the error is "Truncated Class File", because I did append something :-) I know its not a good idea to edit class files directly, but I'm just interested on the VM internals here.

• In IIS6, how to provide authenticated access to static files on remote server

  We have a library of ZIP files that we would like to make available for download at an ASP.NET site. The files are sitting on a NAS device that is accessible from out web farm. Here is our initial strategy: Map an IIS virtual directory to the shared drive at path /zipfiles Users can download the zip files when given the URL However, if users share links to the files, anyone can download them. We would instead like to make use of the ASP.NET forms authentication in our site to validate users' requests before initiating the file transfer. A few problems: A request for a zip file is handled by IIS, not ASP.NET. So it is not subject to forms authentication. In addition, we don't want ASP.NET to handle the request, because it uses up an ASP.NET thread and is not scalable for download of large files. So, configuring the asp.net dll to handle *.zip requests is not an option. Any ideas on this? One idea we've tossed around is this: Initial request for download will be for an ashx handler. This handler will, after authentication, generate a download token which is saved to a database. Then, the user is redirected to the file with token appended in QueryString (e.g. /files/xyz.zip?token=123456789). An ISAPI plugin will be used to check the token. Also, the token will expire after x amount of time. Any thoughts on this? I have not implemented an ISAPI plugin so I'm not sure if this will even work. I would like to avoid custom coding since security is an issue and I'd prefer to use a time-tested solution.

I have some crash with coregraphic calls, it happen randomly (sometimes after 2 mn, or just at the start), but often at the same places in the code. I have a class that just wrap a CGContext, it have a CGContextRef as member. This Object is re-created each time DrawRect() is called, so the CGContextRef is always up-to-date. The draw calls came from the main thread, only After looking for this kind of error, it appear that it should be object Release related.
