    I'm querying an underlying PostgreSQL database using Pandas 0.8. Pandas is returning the DataFrame properly but the underlying timestamp column in my database is being returned as a generic "object" type in Pandas. As I would eventually like to seasonal normalization of my data I am curious as to how to convert this generic "object" column to something that is appropriate for analysis.     I want my application to sanitize html on input rather than on display, so that the fields saved into the database are sanitized. I've been doing this with strip_tags, and it was working great. However, this has the downside that it means the user can't input anything that's bracketed with < and . How can I tell Rails in the model to securely escape tags before saving them to the database? I'd like to not have to call h on the sanitized fields again before using them in the views.

  • Omniauth + Pow Issue

    I am having a strange issue with Pow and Omniauth. Omniauth (Facebook Login) works fine when using localhost:3000, but when using Pow (appname.dev) things get fishy. Users are taken through the redirect and properly created if they don't exist in the database, as they should be. After this, however, they are redirected to the root_path and not signed in. Their record is saved in the database as expected, but sign in does not occur. Again, this is only happening on Pow (and lvh.me), and not on localhost. Any ideas? I am using the Devise/Omniauth approach for sign-in, and the controller code looks like this: def facebook @user = User.find_for_facebook_oauth(request.env["omniauth.auth"], current_user) if @user.persisted? flash[:notice] = I18n.t "devise.omniauth_callbacks.success", :kind => "Facebook" sign_in_and_redirect @user, :event => :authentication else session["devise.facebook_data"] = request.env["omniauth.auth"] redirect_to new_user_registration_url end end Again, the user is persisted but there is no flash notice or sign_in that occurs when using POW.

  • What mail storage should I choose for our web application; IMAP, key-valud store, rdbms, ...

    I have to store e-mail messages for use with our application. I have "metadata" for all messages inside a relational database, but I don't feel comfortable keeping message content (gigabytes and terabytes of email data) inside a database. I'm currently using IMAP as a storage, but I have my doubts if I choose correctly. First of all there is a problem of uidvalidity and how to keep a permanent reference to message inside IMAP. Second, I'm not sure if this is the most robust solution in terms of backup/restore strategies, corruption of store, replication ... Positive side is that I can query IMAP using the headers because the data is mostly indexed. I don't know if key-value stores are a better approach (Casandra, Tokyo cabinet, redis). How they handle storing 1KB and 50MB of data. How they prevent corruption and when corruption or device failure happens how can I repair the store.

I was trying to avoid having to set the connection string for all applications that user my code library. The location of the database is different for each project that uses the library.     Hi I have a question about model binding. Imagine you have an existing database entity displayed in a form and you'd like to edit some details, some properties eg createddate etc are not bound to the form, during model binding, these properties are not assigned to the model as they are not on the http post data or querystrong etc, hence their properties are null. In my controller method for update , Id just like to do public ActionResult Update( Entity ent) { //Save changes to db } but as some properties are null in ent, they override the existing database fields which are not part of the form post data, What is the correct way to handle this? Ive tried hidden fields to hold the data, but model binding does not seem to assign hidden fields to the model. Any suggestions would be appreciated

  • How do I display a field's hidden characters in the result of a query in Oracle?

    I have two rows that have a varchar column that are different according to a Java .equals(). I can't easily change or debug the Java code that's running against this particular database but I do have access to do queries directly against the database using SQLDeveloper. The fields look the same to me (they are street addresses with two lines separated by some new line or carriage feed/new line combo). Is there a way to see all of the hidden characters as the result of a query?I'd like to avoid having to use the ascii() function with substr() on each of the rows to figure out which hidden character is different. I'd also accept some query that shows me which character is the first difference between the two fields.

    I've seen other questions about this exception, but all of them seem to be resolved with the solution that a row with the primary key specified already exists. This doesn't seem to be the case for me. I have tried replacing all single quotes in my strings with double quotes, but the same problem occurs.     Exchange 2010 does not support the ESE API for doing backups like it did in 2003 and 2007 according to MSDN. I Quote: "Exchange 2010 no longer supports the ESE streaming APIs for backup and restore of program files or data. Instead, Exchange 2010 supports only VSS-based backups." So my question is, if this is the case, why is the DLL (ESEBCLI2.DLL) still shipped with exchange 2010? I found it under C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Bin. Am I missing something here?

    Hello everyone, i'm working on a small project that is supposed to allow basic searches of the database. Currently i'm using nhibernate for the database interaction. In the database i have 2 tables: Person and Address. The Person table has a many-to-one relationship with Address. It seems that nhibernate is looking for a street column in the Person table but not in the Address table. Any idea on how should i change my code for so i could do a proper search? Tips?     I have a database table that is a dictionary of defined terms -- key, value. I want to load the dictionary in the application scope from the database, and keep it there for performance (it doesn't change). I gather this is probably some sort of "struct," but I'm extremely new to ColdFusion (helping out another team). Then, I'd like to do some simple string replacement on some strings being output to the browser, looping through the defined terms and replacing the terms with some HTML to define the terms (a hover or a link, details to be worked out later, not important). Can anyone point me in the right direction of: How to define the stucture (if that is what I need for a key/value pair list) How to query at the application start-up and reuse the list properly The best way to do the string replacement

    Hello, I would to use JavaScript to clean up text that’s being copied from my site. I use snippets like this: body { vertical-align: middle; ? } Where ? indicates comment later on. I want readers to copy this snippet and use it – so I need to delete that Unicode marker. How can I access text that’s being copied and make changes to it? I considered deleting marker(s) from snippet when user clicks (mousedown) on it, so she could select the text, copy it and then I would restore markers but it seems a really long way to do it.

    Morning, I am inputting data from an XML file into my database, but have any isse with German words (that are in the XML by mistake) For example the word für appears in my XML as für and thus appears the same in my database. I know I could do a simple search/replace for that exact phrase, but I was wondering if there was a smarter way to do it as I can't predict if any other German words may one day appear in the XML?     Hi In my app I use a ListView to display data from the database. The data changes sometimes, for example when the user applies new filters or changes the sorting method. I use AsyncTask to get the databsase cursor that points to the new data set because sometimes data needs to be loaded from the net which can take some time. What I do now looks something like this: private class updateTask extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> { /* * runs on the UI thread before doInBackground */ @Override protected void onPreExecute(){ // prepare some stuff... } /* * runs in a separate thread * used for time-consuming loading operation */ @Override protected Void doInBackground() { //get new database cursor mCursor = mDbAdapter.getCursor(); return null; } /* * runs on the UI thread after doInBackground */ @Override protected void onPostExecute(Void result){ if(mCursor!=null){ MyActivity.this.startManagingCursor(mCursor); mCursorAdapter = new MyCustomCursorAdapter(MyActivity.this, mCursor); mListView.setAdapter(mCursorAdapter); } } } This works so far but I realize that creating a new CursorAdapter and calling setAdapter on my ListView each time isn't the correct way to do it. Also, after setAdapter the scroll position of the list is set back to the top. I found this post which describes how to do it properly.   • Scroll Gestures not Passed to IScrollInfo implementing panel in Windows Phone 7 CTP

    I am using a custom panel as a ItemsPanel for a ItemsControl in a with a custom template that provides for a scroll viewer. (See Xaml below.) So long as my panel does not implement IScrollInfo, scrolling works in this scenerio. I implement IScrollInfo and update my viewport and extent sizes in measure override. The scroll bar shows the correct relative size, and if I call the IScrollInfo methods directly, scrolling works as expected. However, the drag and flick gestures no longer scroll the content. Putting a breakpoint on the input of every IScrollInfo method shows that drag and pick are not calling the interface. Removing the IScrollInfo interface declaration restores the scroll on drag and flick behavior. Is there a simple way to restore the flick and pan gestures to ItemControls with panels that implement IScrollInfo?

    Ok, in this question I learned how to prevent the insert of a NULL value. But, unfortunately, an empty string is being inserted anyway. Apart from preventing this on the PHP side, I'd like to use something like a database constraint to prevent this. Of course a check on the application side is necessary, but I'd like it to be on both sides. CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS tblFoo ( foo_id int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, foo_test varchar(50) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (foo_id) ); Would still allow me to do this insert: INSERT INTO tblFoo (foo_test) VALUES (''); Which I would like to prevent.

  • Whats the best method for queuing time-sensitive messages with PHP/MySQL?

    I'm building an SMS call and response system in a new app that receives a message via an aggregator gateway, checks it for functional keywords (run, stop, ask, etc), then processes it appropriately (save to the database, return an answer, or execute a task based on the users authorization). It's running fine at the moment as there are only a few users, but I figure its going to have more issues as we scale it up. We're currently running it on a single DV machine (mediatemple base dv). My question is this: does it make more sense to set something up like Memcached to run a queue, or a simple database with a daemon running to process each message one by one? I don't have much experience with either, so any advice would be helpful. Since the messaging is somewhat time-sensitive, what would be the fastest and most reliable way to handle this? Also, since we're sending responses, I'll probably need to set up and outbound message queue as well. Would it make sense to use the same concept for both?

  • Huge page buffer vs. multiple simultaneous processes

    One of our customer has a 35 Gb database with average active connections count about 70-80. Some tables in database have more than 10M records per table. Now they have bought new server: 4 * 6 Core = 24 Cores CPU, 48 Gb RAM, 2 RAID controllers 256 Mb cache, with 8 SAS 15K HDD on each. 64bit OS. I'm wondering, what would be a fastest configuration: 1) FB 2.5 SuperServer with huge buffer 8192 * 3500000 pages = 29 Gb or 2) FB 2.5 Classic with small buffer of 1000 pages. Maybe some one has tested such case before and will save me days of work :) Thanks in advance.

    I'm trying to reutilize code that generates FILE fields for use when something is to be added to the database, and grayed out (and disabled) with data already in the database when the item in question is being edited or viewed in detail. However, I can't seem to get the text to fill the field. I'm using this: echo '<input type="file" name="small[]" value="' . $value_from_database . '" DISABLED><br>'; Am I missing anything? If not, are there any decent workarounds?

  • javascript: is there any JS can test network speed?

    I am going to test my website speed, primary the webserver latency. Summarize what I want to achieve: 1) a webpage with javascript hosted in my website(http://myweb.com/test-speed.html) 2) I give this url to my friends 3) They don't need to do anything, they just need to access this webpage then the latency is printed out in the webpage. 4) If the webpage can also tell which state the visitor is in(using IP address range database), it will be a plus. Any existing solutions? I can modify the javascript to log the data into database, but I think the core here is how to writ the javascript to know the latency.
