• How are value types implemented in .NET

  Been looking around the net and can't find any articles about how value types are actually implemented. For instance, an Int32 is a struct and it's direct parent is System.ValueType and that's ultimate parent is System.Object. Object is a class - I imagine ValueType is a class? What's the class hierarchy? What part does the CLR have to play? At what stage and how does the CLR know to allocate value types to the stack? (FYI, I am aware that value types are stored where they are declared).

• Two way binding when setter is overriden

  I have an NSTextField bound to some object "zoom" property. In this object's class implementation, I have the following - (void)setZoom:(CGFloat)zoom { _zoom = MAX(0, MIN(10, zoom)); } If I write "-5" in the textfield, setZoom: will be called with "-5" as argument and _zoom will be set to 0. Then problem is that the textfield is not updating itself and it shows "-5" instead of re-reading the property value it has just set. If I do myObject.zoom = -5; in code, the text field will display 0 correctly. I tried to wrap _zoom =... inside willChangeValueForKey/didChangeValueForKey calls but it didn't change anything.

• ideas for simple objects for day to day web-dev use?

  Dang-I know this is a subjective question so will probably get booted off/locked, but I'll try anyway, because I don't know where else to ask (feel free to point me to a better place to ask this!) I'm just wrapping my head around oop with PHP, but I'm still not using frameworks or anything. I'd like to create several small simple objects that I could use in my own websites to better get a feel for them. Can anyone recommend a list or a resource that could point me to say 10 day-to-day objects that people would use in basic websites? The reason I'm asking is because I'm confusing myself a bit. For example, I was thinking of a "database connection" object, but then I'm just thinking that is just a function, and not really an "object"?? So the question is: What are some examples of objects used in basic PHP websites (not including "shopping cart" type websites) Thanks!

  I am new to spring and trying to implement Role based authorization with the help of @Secured annotation. I have a method which is specifically for ADMIN and I have written @Secured ("ROLE_ADMIN") to secure it. @Secured ("ROLE_ADMIN") public void HelloUser(String name) { System.out.println("Hello ADMIN"); } Now when I call this method by creating a class object it gets called eventhough user dont have ADMIN authority But when I dont create an object and use @autowired annotation instead then it works i.e User is not allowed to access this method. In my security.xml as well as servlet.xml I have added <global-method-security secured-annotations="enabled" /> Can some one please tell me where I am going wrong or is this the natural behaviour in spring ?

• DataGridView cells not editable when using an outside thread call

  Hi, I'm not able to edit my datagridview cells when a number of identical calls takes place on another thread. Here's the situation: Dataset table is created in the main window The program receives in files and processes them on a background thread in class TorrentBuilder : BackgroundWorker creating an array objects of another class Torrent My program receives those objects from the BW result and adds them into the dataset The above happens either on my main window thread or in another thread: I have a separate thread watching a folder for files to come in, and when they do come in, they proceed to call TorrentBuilder.RunWorkerAsynch() from that thread, receive the result, and call an outside class that adds the Torrent objects into the table. When the files are received by the latter thread, the datagridview isn't editable. All of the values come up properly into the datagridview, but when I click on a cell to edit it: I can write letters and everything, but when I click out of it, it immediately reverts back to its original value. If I restart the program, I can edit the same cells just fine. If the values are freshly added from the main window thread, I can edit the cells just fine. The outside thread is called from my main window thread, and sits there in the background. I don't believe it to be ReadOnly because I would have gotten an exception.   Possible Duplicate: Chrome: where is the location to save browse temporary files Ok, so here's what happened - and yes, it was pretty stupid by me: I wrote up and submitted a post on Stack Overflow It was not suited to be placed on Stack Overflow as someone pointed out to me, so I deleted the post (this was a few hours ago) I copied the text into a new question page on Super User, but didn't submit it yet I accidentally just refreshed the webpage that had the text, and the question has now been deleted from Stack Overflow I have Lazarus installed, however the Chrome version doesn't have many features and the text was not recoverable from there. I do not have a clipboard manager, but the text was copied to my clipboard - so is there any way to get this back (Windows 7)? Although the post on Stack Overflow was deleted, I suppose it would have existed in my cache - could I recover it from there? Would the post on Stack Overflow exist in an rss feed anywhere? Many thanks, and I hope I can find this - and I am sure that the solution will prove valuable for me (and others) in the not too distant future once again.

• [Flash 3d engine] Away3d and events (Basic questions)

  I'd like to play around 3d in Flash and I'm wondering how sophisticated objects can i load from 3D Max... cos as i read it's possible to load something from 3d Max I've read that popular 3d engine is Away3d (many tutorials), so if there is nothing better... i'd like to focus on it. I've forgot to mention that i'm not familar with Flash, but the best way to learn something is to do something interesting with it... :) Main question: Can I load object from 3ds and link parts of this object to some actions in Flash. Better example: I'd like to load a Car and when user click on car's door i'd like to show some informations, about those door, or pass this event outside for example to any other application in PHP, Java etc... and when he click on car mask i'd like to raise other event...   Hi, I have a textview and a nine-patch image. Assigning this image in the xml editor to the tag "background" works as desired. Now I want to set this image dynamically in the coding, I thought myTextView.setBackgroundDrawable(mydrawable); would be the right thing to do. My png is in res/drawable. The API says that mydrawable needs to be an object of type drawable R.drawable.myninepatch is of type int. So my problem is that I have to convert from that int to a drawable somehow. Then I thought I can use a constructor NinePatchDrawable mydrawable = new NinePatchDrawable(); But I am again not able to construct such an object. Anyone an idea? Thanks.

• Rails - Why is my custom validation being triggered for only a build command.

  I have a sentence and correction model with a has_one and belongs_to relationship respectively. For some reason when I do def create @sentence = Sentence.find(params[:sentence_id]) @correction = @sentence.build_correction(params[:correction]) a custom validation I wrote for Correction is being called at the build_correction point. the validation is below class Correction < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :text, :sentence_id, :user_id belongs_to :sentence belongs_to :user validate :correction_is_different_than_sentence def correction_is_different_than_sentence errors.add(:text, "can't be the same as the original sentence.") if (text == self.sentence.text) end the problem is for some reason on validation the correction object doesn't have the sentence id set (despite I used the build_correction method) and so it complains "you have nil object .... while executing nil.text" in the if clause in the validation above. So my question is why is the validation occuring for a build command, i thought it only triggers on a create or update. And why isnt the sentence_id getting set?

  I'm converting a VB6 application into VB.Net and having trouble with the basics. I start off with:- Dim xl As Excel.Application Dim xlsheet As Excel.Worksheet Dim xlwbook As Excel.Workbook xl = New Excel.Application xlwbook = xl.Workbooks.Open(my_data.file_name) xlsheet = xlwbook.Sheets(1) but the last line doesn't compile; it reports Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from 'Object' to 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet' I can make this go away by replacing the line with xlsheet = CType(xlwbook.Sheets(1), Excel.Worksheet) but that does't look like the right thing to do to me. If the assignment is correct, I would have thought the object should naturally have the correct type. So: does anyone know what the correct thing I should be doing here?

  I want to use swig for generation of read-only wrappers for a complex object. The object which I want to wrap will always be existent while I will read it. And also I will only use my wrappers at the time that object is existent, thus I don't need any memory management from SWIG. For following swig interface: %module test %immutable; %inline %{ struct Foo { int a; }; struct Bar { int b; Foo f; }; %} I will have a wrappers which will have a lot of garbage in generated interfaces and do useless work which will reduce performance in my case.   I am developing a spring mvc based application. I have a simple pojo form object, the problem is that many properties will be taked from drop down lists that are populated from lookup entities, so I return the entity ID to the form object. public NewCarRequestForm { private makeId; // this are selected from a drop down. private modelId; } Should I just send this lookup entity ID to the service layer? or should I validated that this ID is correct (Somebody can send any random ID through the request) before and how? Now there is a problem if I want to validated something based on some property of the lookup entity. Do I perform a database lookup of the entity just to perform the validation? thanks.
