How severe is this and what exactly does it indicate?   • Pass --nogpgcheck to yum via puppet

    How would one get a --nogpgcheck option to yum via puppet? I've tried package { 'unsigned-package': ensure => latest, install_options => ['--nogpgcheck'], } and package { 'unsigned-package': ensure => latest, install_options => ['nogpgcheck'], } but looking at the output from an agent run, yum isn't getting that option. As an aside (and maybe the reason it's not working for me), how do I verify my puppet has the install_options feature? I'm running puppet 3.3.0-rc2.

  • Disable static content caching in IIS 7

    I'm a developer having what should be a relatively simple problem in IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 R2. The problem is that IIS 7 is overzealously caching all static content on the server. It's caching all .html and .js content and not noticing when the content changes on disk unless I iisreset. I've tried the following: Deleting the local cache in my browser (I'm 99% positive this is a server caching issue) In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and unchecking "User mode caching" and unchecking "Kernel-mode caching" In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and checking "User mode caching" and selecting the radio for "Prevent all caching" In IIS Admin editing Output Cache Feature settings and unchecking "Enable cache" and "Enable kernel cache under OutputCaching. Running "C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\appcmd set config "SharePoint - 80" -section: system.webServer/caching -enabled:false" Looking through applicationHost.config and disabling anything related to caching I could find. Nothing seems to work. I'm getting very frustrated. Can anyone please help?

    Question: How do I remove old kernel images which refuse to be removed? Context: Yesterday I upgraded Ubuntu from 12.04 to 12.10.   • Zipcodes in CSV Generation

    When exporting to CSV format, then opening in a spreadsheet program like Excel zipcodes that start with a zero or zeroes have the preceding zeros stripped off. Obviously it is because the spreadsheet sees that column as integers and preceding zeros in integers are useless. A quick and dirty trick to force Excel (hopefully you are using OpenOffice) to display the full zipcode, we wrap it in double quotes and put an equal sign in front of it, to force it to be a string like this: $zipcode = 00123; $data = '="' . $zipcode . '"' ; So if you are doing the straight query to CSV export, using the fputcsv function it would look something like this.   • BizTalk 2009 - The Scope of the Table Looping Functoid

    When mapping in BizTalk you will find there are times when you need to map from flat and dispersed elemements in your source schema to a repeated record with child elements in your destination schema.  Below is an example of how you can make use of the Table Looping Functoid to bring together these flat elements and create your repeated group.  Although this example is purposely simple, I have previsouly encounted this issue on a much more complex scale when mapping the response from a credit scoring agency where all the applicant details were supplied in separate parts of a very flat schema. Consider the source and destination schemas as follows:   Although the Table Looping Functoid states that the first input must be a scoping element linked from a repeating group, you can actually also make use of a constant value.  In this case I know that the source schema always contains two people, so I set this to two. Then you need to set the number of columns in your table, in this case 2 (name and sex) and link all the required fields from the source schema. Following this you can configure the table. You can then add the Table Extractor functoids and complete the map. If you now validate this map you will see that BizTalk will warn you about the scoping link for the Table Looping Functoid, but this can be safely ignored.   • Enable VT-x in HP 8300 elite

    I have a HP 8300 elite (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz). I'm trying to run a virtual machine via VirtualBox. But every time I start the VM, it says: VT-x is disabled in the BIOS. (VERR_VMX_MSR_VMXON_DISABLED). My lscpu output is like this: Architecture: x86_64 CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit Byte Order: Little Endian CPU(s): 8 On-line CPU(s) list: 0-7 Thread(s) per core: 2 Core(s) per socket: 4 Socket(s): 1 NUMA node(s): 1 Vendor ID: GenuineIntel CPU family: 6 Model: 58 Stepping: 9 CPU MHz: 1600.000 BogoMIPS: 6784.74 Virtualization: VT-x L1d cache: 32K L1i cache: 32K L2 cache: 256K L3 cache: 8192K NUMA node0 CPU(s): 0-7 I went into the BIOS but the things the can be tweaked is very limited and I couldn't find the VT-x setting. Anybody know how to do this in this setup?

  • nginx and php-fpm - Cannot write PHP error log

    I am using Nginx and PHP-FPM on Linux. I am not sure whether the issue is that PHP is not writing to the location specified in the PHP.ini, or if it just isn't working at all. Some of the logs produced by Nginx and PHP-FPM contain the PHP errors, but they are mixed in with other Nginx log output. When I run phpInfo(), value in the error_log is set to a folder in my home directory, but nothing is ever created. I understand that values in the Nginx conf and PHP-FPM conf can overwrite those set in the PHP.ini, but surely running phpInfo(), would show the final config values? I would like to be able to have 1 folder, with seperate files for the Nginx access and error log as well as PHP errors. Thanks.

  • Getting the innermost .NET Exception

    Here's a trivial but quite useful function that I frequently need in dynamic execution of code: Finding the innermost exception when an exception occurs, because for many operations (for example Reflection invocations or Web Service calls) the top level errors returned can be rather generic. A good example - common with errors in Reflection making a method invocation - is this generic error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation In the debugger it looks like this: In this case this is an AJAX callback, which dynamically executes a method (ExecuteMethod code) which in turn calls into an Amazon Web Service using the old Amazon WSE101 Web service extensions for .NET. An error occurs in the Web Service call and the innermost exception holds the useful error information which in this case points at an invalid web.config key value related to the System.Net connection APIs. The "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" error is the Reflection APIs generic error message that gets fired when you execute a method dynamically and that method fails internally. The messages basically says: "Your code blew up in my face when I tried to run it!". Which of course is not very useful to tell you what actually happened. If you drill down the InnerExceptions eventually you'll get a more detailed exception that points at the original error and code that caused the exception. In the code above the actually useful exception is two innerExceptions down. In most (but not all) cases when inner exceptions are returned, it's the innermost exception that has the information that is really useful. It's of course a fairly trivial task to do this in code, but I do it so frequently that I use a small helper method for this: /// <summary> /// Returns the innermost Exception for an object /// </summary> /// <param name="ex"></param> /// <returns></returns> public static Exception GetInnerMostException(Exception ex) { Exception currentEx = ex; while (currentEx.InnerException != null) { currentEx = currentEx.InnerException; } return currentEx; } This code just loops through all the inner exceptions (if any) and assigns them to a temporary variable until there are no more inner exceptions. The end result is that you get the innermost exception returned from the original exception. This can be useful in certain error scenarios where exceptions stack and you need to display information from more than one of the exceptions in order to create a useful error message. This is rare but certain database exceptions bury their exception info in mutliple inner exceptions and it's easier to parse through them in an array then to manually walk the exception stack.     I'm having the following problem. I'm installing SharePoint 2010 Beta so I need to activate the windows feature "Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation". The problem is I cannot activate it, i get the message: "An error has occurred. Not all features were successfully changed" When i look at the log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) I found this error: Process output: [l:186 [186]"SMConfigInstaller[Error]: Failed in calling 'StartService' for service 'NetTcpActivator'. Error code: 0x8007042c Anyone can give me a clue of what is happening here?

I assume it is the application data which gets exchanged with this request, am I right in this? If not, what else gets transferred over this, what is contained in the response?   • What markup languages are good for programming articles/tutorials?

    I very much wish to write a programming tutorial in my native language (Latvian). There are far too few of those. I am however unsure on what markup language to use for writing it. Here are a few things I would like to achieve: The same source can be compiled to both HTML for online viewing and printed form (PDF?). In HTML form it would allow superior interaction and appearance (see below), while the print form would look good on paper (layout etc). I have the idea that the tutorial could be multi-language. Different students have different requirements in their schools. For example, some schools teach Java, some teach C#. You could choose the language on the top of the HTML page and the relevant code snippets (and occasionally pieces of text) would swap out. Most of the text is the same anyway, only the language syntax is a bit different. The text would occasionally contain images too of course and these would need to be included in both the HTML and the printed version In the HTML version the code snippets should get automatic syntax coloring which should ideally be the same as in the recommended IDE for the tutorial. In case there are ambiguities, hints for the syntax colorer should be possible, but I don't want to do the whole coloring by hand. "Output" syntax coloring which would emulate a standard 80x25 text console (since many of the initial programs would be console applicatioins) Collapsible sections for answers to questions (aka "spoiler tags") Automatically generated index/table-of-contents Links to other parts of the tutorial (rendered as links in HTML and as references in print version) "Side note" sections, rendered as separate blocks on the side. Other functions useful in publications that I'm not aware of :) I know this is a bit much to ask, but is there something close enough that I could take it as a starting point and add the necessary features myself? Or is there something in the whole list (like the desire to have both HTML and print versions from the same source) that makes it all fundametally infeasible?

    Oracle UPK Content Development tool settings: Before developing UPK content, your UPK Developer needs to be configured with certain standard settings to ensure the content will have a uniform look. To set the options: 1. Open the UPK Developer. 2. Click the Tools menu. 3. Click Options. After you configure the UPK Options, you can share these preferences with other content developers by exporting them to an .ops file. This is particularly useful in workgroup environments where multiple authors are working on the same content that requires consistent output regardless of who authored the content. (To learn more about Exporting/Importing Content Defaults refer to the Content Development.pdf guide that is delivered with the UPK Developer.)     I attempted to open up a port on my VPS, but I can't connect to my website after opening up that port. Below are the commands I issued to open the port. I didn't get an error or anything after setting this up. I just can't connect to my website after doing this.     SQL Server Agent fails to start because of the error 15281 is a very common error. When you start to restart SQL Agent sometimes it will give following error. SQL Server blocked access to procedure ‘dbo.sp_get_sqlagent_properties’ of component ‘Agent XPs’ because this component is turned off as part of the security configuration for this server. A system administrator can enable the use of ‘Agent XPs’ by using sp_configure. For more information about enabling ‘Agent XPs’, search for ‘Agent XPs’ in SQL Server Books Online. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15281) To resolve this error, following script has to be executed on the server. sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1; GO RECONFIGURE; GO sp_configure 'Agent XPs', 1; GO RECONFIGURE GO When you run above script, it will give a very similar output as following on the screen. Now, if you try to restart SQL Agent it will just work fine. That’s it! Sometimes there is a simpler solution to complicated error.     I have a problem with the video output on my E6530. It does not show anything during POST on my external screens. As it seems this is related to A09 BIOS which is currently installed. I wanted to upgrade to A11 BIOS and downloaded the installer from the Dell Website. The installer launches correctly and displays the current version, the update versions and reboots the system afterwards. Bit the BIOS version remains A09. I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Any hints? Thank you very much.   • How do you measure the value of your software?

    Hi, One of the principles of agile is that you should measure working software: Working software is the primary measure of progress - 12 principles of Agile The thing is, while I can measure my software in terms of stories done, bugs squashed or the volume of defect reports decreasing, I'm stuck on how to measure the value of my software. If I use Mike Cohn as an example and his helping SalesForce.com deliver 500% more value to it's customers compared to the previous year* - how do I measure that increase? How do I measure where I am right now? Other metrics he uses are the number of features and the number of features per developer. This is something I could work out if my backlog was in good order and the stories were cut up by 'feature', but we're just starting out with Agile, so I need some way of working out what the value is we deliver now, then use a similar metric in say, six months, to see if we've increased our output. I've heard about measuring value of software by an uptick in revenue, or an increase in customer satisfaction (how would you measure that though?) but those increases could be attributed to anything in the company (sales, accounting, support) and not directly to the work my department is doing.   • Python — Time complexity of built-in functions versus manually-built functions in finite fields

    Generally, I'm wondering about the advantages versus disadvantages of using the built-in arithmetic functions versus rolling your own in Python. Specifically, I'm taking in GF(2) finite field polynomials in string format, converting to base 2 values, performing arithmetic, then output back into polynomials as string format. So a small example of this is in multiplication: Rolling my own: def multiply(a,b): bitsa = reversed("{0:b}".format(a)) g = [(b<<i)*int(bit) for i,bit in enumerate(bitsa)] return reduce(lambda x,y: x+y,g) Versus the built-in: def multiply(a,b): # a,b are GF(2) polynomials in binary form .... return a*b #returns product of 2 polynomials in gf2 Currently, operations like multiplicative inverse (with for example 20 bit exponents) take a long time to run in my program as it's using all of Python's built-in mathematical operations like // floor division and % modulus, etc. as opposed to making my own division, remainder, etc. I'm wondering how much of a gain in efficiency and performance I can get by building these manually (as shown above). I realize the gains are dependent on how well the manual versions are built, that's not the question. I'd like to find out 'basically' how much advantage there is over the built-in's. So for instance, if multiplication (as in the example above) is well-suited for base 10 (decimal) arithmetic but has to jump through more hoops to change bases to binary and then even more hoops in operating (so it's lower efficiency), that's what I'm wondering. Like, I'm wondering if it's possible to bring the time down significantly by building them myself in ways that maybe some professionals here have already come across.
