  • How do I remove 3 characters from the end of an NSURL?

    - by saywhatman
    Hey, my first question! I've been able to code up most of this RSS reader without enlisting help (through a lot of searches through stackoverflow!) but I'm stumped here. NSString *urlbase = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:[links3 objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlbase]]; NSCharacterSet *whitespaces = [NSCharacterSet whitespaceCharacterSet]; NSPredicate *noEmptyStrings = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"SELF != ''"]; NSArray *parts = [urlbase componentsSeparatedByCharactersInSet:whitespaces]; NSArray *filteredArray = [parts filteredArrayUsingPredicate:noEmptyStrings]; urlbase = [filteredArray componentsJoinedByString:@" "]; NSLog(@"%@ %i" , urlbase, 4353); [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlbase]]; The links3 array is a NSMutableArray with strings. The first few lines work flawlessly in eliminating the space at the beginning each string from that array, which is stored in 'urlbase' so they look fine when they come out. When we NSLog urlbase, we see: http://www.feedzilla.com/r/D7E6204FEDBFE541314B997AAB5D2DF9CBA2EFEE But, when we use: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlbase]] We see: http://www.feedzilla.com/r/D7E6204FEDBFE541314B997AAB5D2DF9CBA2EFEE%0A How can I fix this? Can I remove those tail elements somehow? Thanks!

  • Rails using plural table names even though I told it to use singular

    - by Jason Swett
    I tried to run rake test:profile and I got this error: ... Table 'mcif2.accounts' doesn't exist: DELETE FROM `accounts` I know accounts doesn't exist. It's called account. I know Rails uses plural table names by default but here's what my config/environment.rb looks like: # Load the rails application require File.expand_path('../application', __FILE__) # Initialize the rails application McifRails::Application.initialize! ActiveRecord::Base.pluralize_table_names = false And here's what db/schema.rb looks like: ActiveRecord::Schema.define(:version => 0) do create_table "account", :force => true do |t| t.integer "customer_id", :limit => 8, :null => false t.string "account_number", :null => false t.integer "account_type_id", :limit => 8 t.date "open_date", :null => false So I don't understand why Rails still wants to call it accounts sometimes. Any ideas? If it helps give any clues at all, here are the results of grep -ir 'accounts' *.

  • Using data.table to aggregate

    - by dayne
    After multiple suggestions from SO users, I am finally trying to convert my code over to using data.tables. library(data.table) DT <- data.table(plate = paste0("plate",rep(1:2,each=5)), id = rep(c("CTRL","CTRL","ID1","ID2","ID3"),2), val = 1:10) > DT plate id val 1: plate1 CTRL 1 2: plate1 CTRL 2 3: plate1 ID1 3 4: plate1 ID2 4 5: plate1 ID3 5 6: plate2 CTRL 6 7: plate2 CTRL 7 8: plate2 ID1 8 9: plate2 ID2 9 10: plate2 ID3 10 What I would like to do is take the average of DT[,val] by plate when the id is "CTRL". I would normally aggregate the data frame, then use match to map the values back to a new column, 'ctrl'. Using the data.table package I can get: DT[id=="CTRL",ctrl:=mean(val),by=plate] > DT plate id val ctrl 1: plate1 CTRL 1 1.5 2: plate1 CTRL 2 1.5 3: plate1 ID1 3 NA 4: plate1 ID2 4 NA 5: plate1 ID3 5 NA 6: plate2 CTRL 6 6.5 7: plate2 CTRL 7 6.5 8: plate2 ID1 8 NA 9: plate2 ID2 9 NA 10: plate2 ID3 10 NA What I need is really: DT <- data.table(plate = paste0("plate",rep(1:2,each=5)), id = rep(c("CTRL","CTRL","ID1","ID2","ID3"),2), val = 1:10, ctrl = rep(c(1.5,6.5),each=5)) > DT plate id val ctrl 1: plate1 CTRL 1 1.5 2: plate1 CTRL 2 1.5 3: plate1 ID1 3 1.5 4: plate1 ID2 4 1.5 5: plate1 ID3 5 1.5 6: plate2 CTRL 6 6.5 7: plate2 CTRL 7 6.5 8: plate2 ID1 8 6.5 9: plate2 ID2 9 6.5 10: plate2 ID3 10 6.5 Eventually I would like to use much more complicated selections of the values, but I do not know how to select specific values, run some function, then map those values back to the appropriate row using data frames.

  • What would the destructor for this class look like?

    - by cam
    class Equipment { std::vector<Armor*> vEquip; Weapon* mainWeapon; int totalDefense; int totalAttack; public: unsigned int GetWeight(); int * GetDefense(); bool EquipArmor(Armor* armor); bool UnequipArmor(Armor* armor); bool EquipWeapon(Weapon* wep); bool UnequipWeapon(Weapon* wep); Equipment(); virtual ~Equipment(); }; It seems like there should be no destructor. The vector of pointers will take care of itself when it goes out of scope, and the actual objects the pointers point to don't need to be deleted as there will be other references to it. All of the objects in this refer to the main Container: class Container { int weightLimit; unsigned int currWeight; std::vector<Item*> vItems; public: bool AddItem(Item* item); bool RemoveItem(Item* item); Container(); Container(int weightLim); Container(int weightLim, std::vector<Item*> items); ~Container(); }; Now here I can see it being necessary to delete all objects in the container, because this is where all the objects are assigned via AddItem(new Item("Blah")) (Armor and Weapon inherit from Item)

  • A loop (while/foreach) with "offset" wrapping and

    - by DarkGhostHunter
    After applying what wrapping objects using math operator, I just tought it will be over. But no. By far. <?php $faces= array( 1 => '<div class="block">happy</div>', 2 => '<div class="block">sad</div>', (sic) 21 => '<div class="block">angry</div>' ); $i = 1; foreach ($faces as $face) { echo $face; if ($i == 3) echo '<div class="block">This is and ad</div>'; if ($i % 3 == 0) { echo "<br />"; // or some other wrapping thing } $i++; } ?> In the code I have to put and ad after the second one, becoming by that the third object. And then wrap the three all in a <div class="row"> (a br after won't work out by design reasons). I thought I will going back to applying a switch, but if somebody put more elements in the array that the switch can properly wrap, the last two remaining elements are wrapped openly. Can i add the "ad" to the array in the third position? That would make things simplier, only leaving me with guessing how to wrap the first and the third, the fourth and the sixth, an so on.

  • Ruby on Rails sortable list

    - by mdgrech
    I created a sortable list in my RoR project, unfortunately it's not saving the list position. Upon page refresh the items return to their normal spot. • Why do I get 'Connection refused - connect(2)' for some models?

    - by Will
    I have a rails application running for the past 90 days that suddenly stopped working. Debugging the problem I found that I can read from the DB but not write to it. At least for certain models. There is one model that I can save whereas all others return Connection refused - connect(2) when I attempt to save them. They all used to work fine last month. I have no idea how to determine what the problem may be. Unfortunately I do not have access to the actual server remotely right now so I am limited in my debugging ability. I was able to get some non-tech people to run simple commands though that may help identify my problem. I will also be getting access tomorrow at some point. 1 Check from the console ./script/console >> a = Post.last.clone => #<Post id: nil, title: "test"... >> a.ex_id = 7 >> a.save Connection refused - connect(2) ... ... >> b = Story.last.console => #<Story id: nil, title: "test"... >> a.ex_id = 7 >> a.save => true I am not sure why this works for story and not post. This is consistent over many tests. 2 Check from mysql ./script/dbconsole -p mysql> INSERT INTO Posts (`title`,`body`, `ex_id`) SELECT `title`, `body`, 7 FROM Posts WHERE ID = 1; Query OK, 1 row affected (0.01 sec) Records: 1 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 And as you can see I am able to write to the table with the same credientials that Rails uses? Does anyone know why I get connection refused in the console?

  • Storing data in XML or MongoDB

    - by user766473
    Here is my usecase. 1.Have some data, which I am storing now in the xml files. The data that I am storing is not persistent i.e I would be deleting the user data once the user logs out. 2.My server communicates with the client using the XML requests and responses. So initially we decided, since we are sending the XML as response, lets store it in XML so that conversion from database to XML format time is saved. 3.Client will request for XML based on some filter conditions. So will have to use XQUERY. 4.Maximum of 100 entries will be there in an XML, atleast as of now. Now I would like to hear some advice on whether I should use XML or mongodb. My Concerns : 1. How good is it to store temporary data in mongodb and delete/take backup once done with session 2. Conversion from mongodb json format to XML. 3. Handling the changes in the schema design. Cant use any other DB than mongodb. As some persistent operation or still done on mongodb. Thanks in advance.

  • Returning a Value from a jQuery Dialog Button Instead of Running a Function

    - by kamera
    I'm working on an admin UI and I can't wrap my head around how to get a specific kind of modal behaviour. I'm using jQuery. I already have a system for modal dialogs in place, where an openModal(settings) function opens a modal. Based on the settings, it will show/hide or sometimes inject various dialogs. I also have a generic confirmation dialog and this is the one I'm not sure how to make work. The layout is simple: <div id="confirmation-dialog"> <h2>Are you sure?</h2> <button class="button.yes">Yes</button> <button class="button.no">No</button> </div> I could just hard-code each button to do what I need it to do but I would like this to be more generic. Ideally, I would like it to function like this: (I know this doesn't work) function deleteImportantThing() { if (confirmThis() == true) { // Delete the thing } else { // Do nothing, close dialog } } function confirmThis() { openModal({kind: "confirm"}); // Check which button is clicked, then return true or false } I guess I just don't know enough JavaScript to get this to work, or to even figure out where to look. Any advice? I know there are modal dialog plug-ins out there but I'd have to change how the rest of my modals work to integrate them, and I'd like to do this myself if at all possible.

  • Make div expand only horizontally when more floating divs are added to it

    - by Wesam
    I am trying to make a div that contains other floating divs to adjust its width such that adding more floating divs (dynamically using jQuery) will only expand the div in its width, not allowing the floating divs to create a new line. Therefore, I want to fix this issue such that each div with class grid-row only expands in width, and so I will be able to scroll using the overflow: scroll for the parent grid div. I have searched a lot for answers, and it seems that it is a famous issue. However, non of the answer solved my problem. I am currently doing this: <div id="grid_container"> <div id="grid"> <div class="grid_row"> <div class="module" id="experience"> Experience </div> <div class="header"> Google </div> <div class="header"> Microsoft </div> </div> <div class="grid_row"> </div> </div> </div> CSS: body { } #grid_container { margin: 50px auto; width: 500px; height: 500px; padding: 10px; border: black solid 1px; } #grid { overflow:scroll; height: 100%; } .grid_row { clear: both; height: 50px; } .module, .header{ padding: 10px; float: left; border: gray solid 1px; }

  • How to open multiple socket connections and do callbacks in PHP

    - by Click Upvote
    I'm writing some code which processes a queue of items. The way it works is this: Get the next item flagged as needing to be processed from the mysql database row. Request some info from a google API using Curl, wait until the info is returned. Do the remainder of the processing based on the info returned. Flag the item as processed in the db, move onto the next item. The problem is that on step # 2. Google sometimes takes 10-15 seconds to return the requested info, during this time my script has to remain halted and wait. I'm wondering if I could change the code to do the following instead: Get the next 5 items to be processed as usual. Request info for items 1-5 from google, one after the other. When the info for item 1 is returned, a 'callback' should be done which calls up a function or otherwise calls some code which then does the remainder of the processing on items 1-5. And then the script starts over until all pending items in db are marked processed. How can something like this be achieved?

  • PHP function to handle most database queries has a problem with results. I am getting the right numb

    - by asdasds
    Here is my little function. It does not handle the results correctly. I do get all the rows that I want, but all the rows of the $results array contain the exact same values. So i make 2 arrays, a temporary array to hold the values after each fetch, and another array to hold all the temporary arrays. First i take the temp array and map its keys to the column names. Then i give it to bind_result, and call fetch() and use it like I would any other result value. Could this be because I re-use the $results array? numresults is the number of values you are taking from each row. if 0, you are not getting any results back. function db_query($db, $query, $params = NULL, $numresults = 0) { if($stmt = $db -> prepare($query)) { if($params != NULL) { call_user_func_array(array($stmt, 'bind_param'), $params); } if(!$stmt -> execute()) { //echo 'exec error:',$db->error; return false; } if($numresults > 0) { $results = array(); $tmpresult = array(); $meta = $stmt->result_metadata(); while ($columnName = $meta->fetch_field()) $tmpresult[] = &$results[$columnName->name]; call_user_func_array(array($stmt, 'bind_result'), $tmpresult); $meta->close(); $results = array(); while($stmt -> fetch()) $results[] = $tmpresult; } $stmt -> close(); } else { //echo 'prepare error: ',$db->error; return false; } if($numresults == 0) return true; return $results; }

  • Is it a bad practice to use divs for styling purposes?

    - by caisah
    I've seen lately a lot of discussions about this new concept called oocss and I was wondering if it is a bad practice to wrap your main tags in divs only for styling/page layout purposes. I'm asking this because I see some frameworks like Twitter Bootstrap use such a method. What are the implications of such a markup from a semantic and accessibility point of view? For example: <div class="container"> <div class="row"> <div class="span4"> <nav class="nav">...</nav> </div> <div class="span8"> <a href="#" class="btn btn-large">...</a> </div> </div> </div> instead of <div class="menu"> <nav class="nav">...</nav> <a href="#" class="bttn">...</a> </div>

  • Implement two functions with the same name but different, non-covariant return types due to multiple abstract base classes

    - by user1508167
    If I have two abstract classes defining a pure virtual function with the same name, but different, non-covariant return types, how can I derive from these and define an implementation for both their functions? #include <iostream> class ITestA { public: virtual ~ITestA() {}; virtual float test() =0; }; class ITestB { public: virtual ~ITestB() {}; virtual bool test() =0; }; class C : public ITestA, public ITestB { public: /* Somehow implement ITestA::test and ITestB::test */ }; int main() { ITestA *a = new C(); std::cout << a->test() << std::endl; // should print a float, like "3.14" ITestB *b = dynamic_cast<ITestB *>(a); if (b) { std::cout << b->test() << std::endl; // should print "1" or "0" } delete(a); return 0; } As long as I don't call C::test() directly there's nothing ambiguous, so I think that it should work somehow and I guess I just didn't find the right notation yet. Or is this impossible, if so: Why?

  • How can I load a div in rails in response to clicks on another div?

    - by mmr
    I'm very new to Rails (and web) programming, so I'm not even sure what technology I should be looking for for this. I've downloaded and run through the first five chapters of the Rails tutorial, but now have a very simple request. On the left hand side of a web page, I will have a table. If the user clicks on an element in that table, I want to have the right hand side of the page show something new. I already have a page to display the table, viz: <div class="center hero-unit"> <div class="container"> <h2>2012 Yearly Report</h2> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="span12"> <div class="span4"> <table border="1"> </table> </div> <div class="span6"> <!-- load stuff here based on what someone clicks on in the table --> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> And I'm using bootstrap layouts to display everything. I just don't understand how to change the contents of the 'span6' div based on user behavior in 'span4'.

  • How do virtual destructors work?

    - by Jack
    I am using gcc. I am aware how the virtual destructors solve the problem when we destroy a derived class object pointed by a base class pointer. I want to know how do they work? class A { public: A(){cout<<"A constructor"<<endl;} ~A(){cout<<"A destructor"<<endl;} }; class B:public A { public: B(){cout<<"B constructor"<<endl;} ~B(){cout<<"B destructor"<<endl;} }; int main() { A * a = new B(); delete a; getch(); return 0; } When I change A's destructor to a virtual function, the problem is solved. What is the inner working for this. Why do I make A's destructor virtual.

  • Is my approach for persistent login secure ?

    - by Jay
    I'm very much stuck with the reasonable secure approach to implement 'Remember me' feature in a login system. Here's my approach so far, Please advice me if it makes sense and is reasonably secure: Logging: User provides email and password to login (both are valid).. Get the user_id from DB Table Users by comparing provided email Generate 2 random numbers hashed strings: key1, key2 and store in cookies. In DB Table COOKIES, store key1, key2 along with user_id. To Check login: If key1 and key2 both cookies exist, validate both keys in DB Table COOKIES (if a row with key1, and key2 exists, user is logged). if cookie is valid, regenrate key2 and update it in cookie and also database. Why re-genrating key: Because if someone steals cookie and login with that cookie, it will be working only until the real user login. When the real user will login, the stolen cookie will become invalid. Right? Why do I need 2 keys: Because if i store user_id and single key in cookie and database, and the user want to remember the password on another browser, or computer, then the new key will be updated in database, so the user's cookie in earlier browser/PC will become invalid. User wont be able to remember password on more than one place. Thanks for your opinions.

  • SQL - Query to display average as either "longer than" or "shorter than"

    - by user1840801
    Here are the tables I've created: CREATE TABLE Plane_new (Pnum char(3), Feature varchar2(20), Ptype varchar2(15), primary key (Pnum)); CREATE TABLE Employee_new (eid char(3), ename varchar(10), salary number(7,2), mid char(3), PRIMARY KEY (eid), FOREIGN KEY (mid) REFERENCES Employee_new); CREATE TABLE Pilot_new (eid char(3), Licence char(9), primary key (eid), foreign key (eid) references Employee_new on delete cascade); CREATE TABLE FlightI_new (Fnum char(4), Fdate date, Duration number(2), Pid char(3), Pnum char(3), primary key (Fnum), foreign key (Pid) references Pilot_new (eid), foreign key (Pnum) references Plane_new); And here is the query I must complete: For each flight, display its number, the name of the pilot who implemented the flight and the words ‘Longer than average’ if the flight duration was longer than average or the words ‘Shorter than average’ if the flight duration was shorter than or equal to the average. For the column holding the words ‘Longer than average’ or ‘Shorter than average’ make a header Length. Here is what I've come up with - with no luck! • Foreign-key-like merge in R

But, I have another file which has multiple rows per id like: "seqn","rxd030","rxd240b","nhcode","rxq250" 56,2,"","",NA,NA,"" 57,1,"ACETAMINOPHEN","01200",2 57,1,"BUDESONIDE","08800",1 58,1,"99999","",NA 57 has two rows. Suppose I want a way to make a simple model like MYSPECIAL_FACTOR <- somehow() glm(MYSPECIAL_FACTOR ~ full$ridageyr, family=binomial) where MYSPECIAL_FACTOR is, say, whether or not rxd240b == "ACETAMINOPHEN" for the observations which are unique by seqn. You can reproduce by running the first bit of this.

  • find the difference between two very large list

    - by user157195
    I have two large list(could be a hundred million items), the source of each list can be either from a database table or a flat file. both lists are of comparable sizes, both unsorted. I need to find the difference between them. so I have 3 scenarios: 1. List1 is a database table(assume each row simply have one item(key) that is a string), List2 is a large file. 2. Both lists are from 2 db tables. 3. both lists are from two files. in case 2, I plan to use: select a.item from MyTable a where a.item not in (select b.item form MyTable b) this clearly is inefficient, is there a better way? Another approach is: I plan to sort each list, and then walk down both of them to find the diff. If the list is from a file, I have to read it into a db table first, then use db sorting to output the list. Is the run time complexity still O(nlogn) in db sorting? either approach is a pain and seems would be very slow when the list involved has hundreds of millions of items. any suggestions?

  • Why is this removing all elements from my LinkedList?

    - by Brian
    Why is my remove method removing every element from my Doubly Linked List? If I take out that if/else statements then I can successfully remove middle elements, but elements at the head or tail of the list still remain. However, I added the if/else statements to take care of elements at the head and tail, unfortunately this method now removes every element in my list. What am I do wrong? public void remove(int n) { LinkEntry<E> remove_this = new LinkEntry<E>(); //if nothing comes before remove_this, set the head to equal the element after remove_this if (remove_this.previous == null) head = remove_this.next; //otherwise set the element before remove_this equal to the element after remove_this else remove_this.previous.next = remove_this.next; //if nothing comes after remove_this, set the tail equal to the element before remove_this if (remove_this.next == null) tail = remove_this.previous; //otherwise set the next element's previous pointer to the element before remove_this else remove_this.next.previous = remove_this.previous; //if remove_this is located in the middle of the list, enter this loop until it is //found, then remove it, closing the gap afterwards. int i = 0; for (remove_this = head; remove_this != null; remove_this = remove_this.next) { //if i == n, stop and delete 'remove_this' from the list if (i == n) { //set the previous element's next to the element that comes after remove_this remove_this.previous.next = remove_this.next; //set the element after remove_this' previous pointer to the element before remove_this remove_this.next.previous = remove_this.previous; break; } //if i != n, keep iterating through the list i++; } }

  • SQL Trigger Need to set x from a value

    - by Eric
    Im stuck on a the type of trigger needed to for this constraint. I will have a price and a commission. The price determines the commission amount, < 100 - 4%, < 200 - 5% etc. My idea. the database contains a separate table that will hold 4 price values , 101, 201, 401, 601, with their own matching comission %, this will be called PC. When i create a property listing i want to calculate the commission they earn depending on the price entered. on insert, i need to check the new.price and compare it to the prices in PC. Once new.price is less than the price tuple, i set the price to that commission value create or replace TRIGGER findCommission BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE ON HASLISTING FOR each ROW BEGIN IF (:NEW.ASKING_PRICE < 100001) THEN :NEW.COMMISSION = 6.0; END IF; IF (:NEW.ASKING_PRICE < 250001) THEN :NEW.COMMISSION = 5.5; END IF; IF (:NEW.ASKING_PRICE < 1000001) THEN :NEW.COMMISSION = 5.0; END IF; IF (:NEW.ASKING_PRICE > 1000000) THEN :NEW.COMMISSION = 4.0; END IF; END;
