  I have a project directory that contains source code and subdirectories of source code. I want to use the Unix program find to search recursively for the names of files of certain extensions. The versions of find on Linux and Mac OS X behave differently. # Works in Linux find . -type f -regex ".*\.\(py\|html\)$" # Neither of these works in Mac OS X find . -type f -regex ".*\.\(py\|html\)$" find . -type f -regex ".*\.(py|html)$" How do I write this command so that it will run on Mac OS X (and hopefully on Linux too)?

• Recovering OS X Mail Accounts Lost in Crash

  I had a hard crash on my Mac PowerBook and when I restarted, Mail came up with only my MobileMe account still available and I cannot figure out how to restore the other eight email accounts I have. The directories in ~/Library/Mail all seem to be there. I even did an rsync of the modified .plist files from a TimeMachine backup of the directory from before the crash (unfortunately, I was on travel, so the backup is more than a week old and I'd like to try and recover from that point without having to entirely restore from TimeMachine). I also did a fix permissions. So my questions are where exactly is the account information for Mac Mail kept? Any thoughts of what might have caused the failure? Why does only MobileMe come up? Any other thoughts on how to fix things?

• What are the options for hosting a small Plone site?

  I’ve developed a portfolio website for myself using Plone 4, and I’m looking for someplace to host it. Most Plone hosting services seem to focus on large, corporate deployments, but I need something that I can afford on a very limited budget and fits a small, single-admin website. My understanding is that my basic options are thus: I can go with a hosting service that specifically provides Plone. I know of WebFaction, but what others exist? Also, I’d have two stipulations for a Plone hosting service: (a) It needs to use Plone 4, for which I’ve developed my site, and (b) it needs to allow me SSH access to a home directory (including the Plone configuration), so that I may use my custom development eggs and such. I could use a VPS hosting service. What are my options here? Again, I need something cheap and scaled to my level. I could use Amazon EC2 or a similar service (please tell me of any) and pay by the tiniest unit of data. I’m a little scared of this because I have no idea how to do a cost-benefit analysis between this and a regular VPS host. The advantage of this approach would be that I only pay for what I use, making it very scalable, but I don’t know how the overall cost would compare to any VPS host under similar circumstances. What factors enter into the cost of Amazon EC2? What can I expect to pay under either option for regular traffic for a new website? Which one is more desirable for when a rush of visitors drive up my bandwidth bill? One last note: I know Plone isn’t common for websites for individuals, but please don’t try to talk me out of it here; that’s a completely different subject. For now, assume I’m sticking with Plone for good. Also, I have seen the Plone hosting services list on Plone.org—it’s twenty pages long, and the first page was nothing but professional Plone consulting services that sometimes offer hosting for business clients. • Redmine on Redhat/CentOS 5 Without using virtual hosts

  I've have followed all the steps to install Redmine on CentOS 5, except for the Apache part: http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/HowTo_install_Redmine_on_CentOS_5 I do not want to configure a virtualhost as we are not using virtual hosts. Can I configure Redmine to run with http://hostname/redmine? Apparently it doesn't work for my case. Redmine was extracted in to the webserver document root /var/www/html/ called /var/www/html/redmine What I did was added a redmine.conf to /etc/httpd/conf.d/ with the following configuration and restarted the server: <Location "/redmine"> Options Indexes ExecCGI FollowSymLinks -MultiViews Order allow,deny Allow from all AllowOverride all PassengerEnabled On RailsBaseURI /var/www/html/redmine RailsEnv production </Location> now i got this error Further information about the error may have been written to the application's log file. • Lock down SFTP access on OpenSolaris

  Hi all, I have an OpenSolaris 2009.06 server and I'd like to enable a user to remotely change files in a specific directory, ideally via SFTP or FTP-via-SSH. This user does not yet have an account on the machine and I'd like to create it so it's as restricted as possible. Is there a canonical way of doing this? I know about OpenSolaris' role-based access control and authorizations model, but I figure it's a lot of work (i.e., a lot I can mess up) to really lock down a full-blown user account (prevent fork bombs, make sure there's really no other file in the file system which can be written to...). Any hint is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Simon

• Is there an application that allows me to track changes to the operating system when installing software?

  For example I need to know the files created by the installation, the registry key entries, system changes, etc. It would be ideal if I could revert the installation. The solution should not be virtualized. It could be a combination of sandboxing e.g. sandboxie however with the ability to view the registry changes, directory and file updates & changes, etc. I used to be able to use Altiris SVS however it is not supported on Windows 7, Windows 2008, etc. The solution should be ideally free.

• Can't delete some directories as Admin

  I am unable to delete the following directory in Windows 7 C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\iTunes The error message that is displayed when I try is: "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this folder." I am an Administrator and have UAC set to "Never Notify". iTunes is not running either (it's been uninstalled). I have tried running cmd.exe using "Run as administrator" from the right click context menu, then executing rmdir "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" but it just returns "Access is denied." Any ideas why I can't delete this dir? Thanks!

  I'm trying to figure out how to generate a CSR so I can generate and install a SSL cert. Here's a LINK to what I've what tried. Granted that post was for m0n0wall, but I figured openssl is openssl. Heres where I get stuck. • How do I Integrate Production Database Hot Fixes into Shared Database Development model?

  We are using SQL Source Control 3, SQL Compare, SQL Data Compare from RedGate, Mercurial repositories, TeamCity and a set of 4 environments including production. I am working on getting us to a dedicated environment per developer, but for at least the next 6 months we are stuck with a shared model. To summarize our current system, we have a DEV SQL server where developers first make changes/additions. They commit their changes through SQL Source Control to a local hgdev repository. When they execute an hg push to the main repository, TeamCity listens for that and then (among other things) pushes hgdev repository to hgrc. Another TeamCity process listens for that and does a pull from hgrc and deploys the latest to a QA SQL Server where regression and integration tests are run. When those are passed a push from hgrc to hgprod occurs. We do a compare of hgprod to our PREPROD SQL Server and generate deployment/rollback scripts for our production release. Separate from the above we have database Hot Fixes that will need to be applied in between releases. The process there is for our Operations team make changes on the PreProd database, and then after testing, to use SQL Source Control to commit their hot fix changes to hgprod from the PREPROD database, and then do a compare from hgprod to PRODUCTION, create deployment scripts and run them on PRODUCTION. If we were in a dedicated database per developer model, we could simply automatically push hgprod back to hgdev and merge in the hot fix change (through TeamCity monitoring for hgprod checkins) and then developers would pick it up and merge it to their local repository and database periodically. However, given that with a shared model the DEV database itself is the source of all changes, this won't work. Pushing hotfixes back to hgdev will show up in SQL Source Control as being different than DEV SQL Server and therefore we need to overwrite the reposistory with the "change" from the DEV SQL Server. My only workaround so far is to just have OPS assign a developer the hotfix ticket with a script attached and then we run their hotfixes against DEV ourselves to merge them back in. I'm not happy with that solution. Other than working faster to get to dedicated environment, are they other ways to keep this loop going automatically?

• 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied error from web app running in IIS 7.5 using App Pool Identity

  I have an ASP.NET app on a Windows 2008 server, IIS 7.5. When I try to access web site, I get a login popup. If I click "cancel" I get a 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. The app is using Windows authentication (anonymous is disabled). The app has it's own app pool, running under the App Pool Identity. If I change the app pool to run under the NetworkService account, my website functions just fine. I'm guessing that this is just a permissions issue, but can't figure out what permissions I need to change. I gave the App Pool Identity permissions on the physical directory of the app, but that didn't solve the problem.

  I am trying to remove apache completely from my server,which is a ec2 instance, running Amazonian linux v2.6xx. Lets assume I have a file in /etc/httpd/conf/xyz.txt I am using the following code : yum remove httpd when I try to cd /etc/httpd I get "there is no such directory" error. Next, if I install httpd again, using this : yum install httpd, and then if I look in /etc/httpd/conf/ I still have that file as it is.. untouched.. How is this possible ? How do I "Clean" this ?

  I have built a computer for a user that asked me for "speed": an SSD was the obvious solution because what he means by speed is "fast boot time". This solved the problem, however the user is not smart enough to remember that he must install programs on D rather than C (c is the ssd, D is an raid 1 hdd). The only solution that comes in my mind is changing programfiles variable such that will point to D rather than C by default. Otherwise, other solutions are ok but I really can't find anything else at the moment. Does anyone have recommendations for how to accomplish changing the default installation directory in Windows?

• qemu command not running directly

  Can I use "qemu://localhost/system " command directly inplace of "virsh -c qemu://localhost/system " command if my both machines are physically connected in a network as virsh will simply creating the virtual shell between two systems? can I use ssh in place of virtual shell here? I tried this but system gives no directory or file name for qemu even when i had qemu installed properly in my system. but when i use virsh i did not get such errors. Do i need to open any unix socket for doing this?

  Possible Duplicate: Ubuntu OpenLDAP and Mac OS X Roaming Profiles I've installed slapd on Ubuntu 12 after a long long day of trial and error. I've added the apple.ldif schema, and the samba.ldif schema, plus a test user. Last week, I had installed slapd on Ubuntu 11, and was able to authenticate against it from OS X Lion after finding the following blog post: Fixing OpenLDAP Authentication on OS X Lion This suggests running the following commands to fix the authentication problem /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string CRAM-MD5" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string NTLM" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string GSSAPI" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist However, I ran these commands on OS X Mountain Lion, and I am still unable to authenticate. I can't even use the Directory Editor app to examine the AD. I am however able to bind to the server via python-ldap's ldap.simple_bind_s('cn=admin,dc=foo,dc=net,'secret'). • Failover tmpfs mirroring. Am I doing it right?

  My goal is to have a certain directory to be available as tmpfs. There will be some modifications during server uptime in this dir and those modifications must be synced to non-tmpfs persistent dir on HDD over rsync. After server boot the latest version from non-tmpfs persistent dir must be moved to tmpfs and rsync syncing to be started. I'm afraid that rsync will erase non-tmpfs backup if tmpfs dir will be empty.. I'm doing it in this way right now: create tmpfs partition in /etc/fstab cat /etc/rc.local (pseudocode) delete "tmpfs rsync" cronjob from /var/spool/cron/crontabs if there is any cp -r /path/to/non-tmpfs-backup /path/to/tmpfs/dir append /var/spool/cron/crontabs with "tmpfs rsync" cronjob What do you think?

• Boot drive is incorrect one.

  I have several hard drives installed. I normally use c: as my boot drive and a much larger drive (h:) for storing most of my files. I found a subfolder in my c:windows folder named windows after a failed reinstall of Vista. Upon inspection I determined it to be older than the c:windows folder and therefore it must be the older, working version of the boot. I renamed the c:windows folder to c:windows.bad and moved the sub windows to the c: root directory. I also copied it to the h: drive. Now MSCONFIG reports that the copy that is booting is the h: copy. How can I change it back to the c: copy and can I delete the c:windows.bad file set?

• How to fix wrong icons of the files in Windows XP SP3

  Hi everybody, Recently I deleted some folders from *C:\Windows* directory with file names like this: $some_name_Uninstall$, which are the files of the patches, which were installed on the OS. It seems like my office placed the icons in some of those folders and now all xls and doc files have no icon. (I mean no Office icon) I couldn't find a solution for this till now. Please advice if someone had such problem and/or knows the solution. p.s. I have 7 years experience with Windows XP, so please don't ask me to do simple things like associate with files again or something like that. I tried a lot of things. Uninstall and install is not a way out. Thanks for any information!

• Finder Sidebar Icons - How do I duplicate?

  I've noticed that some system directories, when dragged to the Finder's sidebar, utilize special small-scale icons not visible in any other place. Even when looking at one of these folders in a Finder window using the smallest possible icon size, these "special" icons don't appear (so it's not just the small version of the folder's icon). So my question is, where is this information stored? If I wanted to duplicate this behavior for an arbitrary folder, where would I need to look? I like to replace my home directory with a symlink to a location on another partition, but when I do this, I lose this sidebar icon behavior. I would love to get this back if I can.

• Adding entries to the context menu and organising them in Windows 7

  So I've got the hang of adding keys to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\Shell, and I know I can add a string entitled 'Position' and change its value to position the entry I've made, but I can't figure out how to do three things (nor can I find anything guiding me in doing them): 1) How to put a bar on either side of an entry to separate it from other entries 2) How to position them in an exact place in the context menu (eg. above or below a certain other entry) 3) How to make an entry that brings up another list of entries (like the 'View' and 'Sort by' entries that are already there when you right-click in Windows Explorer I wasn't sure whether this goes in StackOverflow or SuperUser, but I thought maybe it goes here since I'm using Regedit rather than coding it (though I am aware you can right a .reg file and then execute it to install these sorts of things). • Severe errors in solr configuration: Error loading class

  Installed Solr on my Windows XP PC. Tomcat seems to be working fine. Cannot get Solr to work. I noticed the TrieDateField is declared in a file called schema.xml in the SolrHome directory. Any thoughts? The Url http://localhost:8080/solr/ returns: HTTP Status 500 - Severe errors in solr configuration. Check your log files for more detailed information on what may be wrong.
