    Ok so I'm making a "simple" web app using the technologies from the topic, recently I found http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex_hibernate.html so I'm following it and I try to apply it to my app, the only difference being I'm working on a Mac and I'm using MAMP for the database (so no command line for me). The thing is I'm having some trouble with retrieving/connecting to the database. I have the remoting-config.xml, persistance.xml, a News.java class (my Entity), a NewsService.java class, a News.as class - all just like in the tutorial. Basically the question is how am I suppose to debug this thing so I can find the mistake I'm making?     I have a UITableview made up with a custom cell loaded from a nib. This custom cell has 9 UILabel s and thats all. When scrolling the table on my iPhone the tables scrolling motion is slightly jerky, its not as smooth as other tableviews! (On the simulator it scrolls fine but I guess its using the extra power of my mac) Are there any tips to help optimize this or any tableview or methods to help find the bottleneck. Many Thanks

  • NOOB Memory Problem - EXC_BAD_ACCESS (OBJ-C/iPhone)

    I have been banging my head against the wall for a couple days and need some help. I have a feeling that I am doing something really silly here, but I cannot find the issue. This is the controller for a table view. I put the SQL in line to simplify it as part of the troubleshooting of this error. Normally, it would be in an accessor method in a model class. It gets through the SQL read just fine. Finds the two objects, loads them into the todaysWorkout array and then builds the cells for the table view. The table view actually comes up on the scree and then it throws the EXC_BAD_ACCESS. But if I loadByAttribute using the 'name' field set to 'Test Category', I DO get a result. So, in the database, I looked into the catalog_category_entity_varchar table and noticed that the 'name' attribute had an entry for both store_id = 0 AND store_id = 1 whereas the 'custom_field' attribute had only an entry for store_id = 1. When I added a store_id = 0 entry for 'custom_field' with the value set to 'abcd' in the catalog_category_entity_varchar table, loadByAttribute got the expected result. My question is, why is the 'name' field getting a store_id = 0 entry in catalog_category_entity_varchar and my custom field is not? How do I load categories by custom attributes?

What I have to do is drop all indexes on a set of databases to run a heavy data load process but then I want to re-enable all the indexes.   • Best practices for developing simple ASP.NET sites (built in controls or JQuery + scripts)

    I was recently reviewing some code written by two different contractors, both were basic ASP.NET management sites. The sites allowed the user to view and edit data. Pretty much simple CRUD gateways. One group did their best to use built in ASP + AJAX Toolkit controls and did their best to use as many built in controls as possible. I found the code much easier to read and maintain. The other used jQuery and the code is heavily marked up with script blocks which are then used to build pages from javascript files. Which one is more common? The one that basically leveraged embedded HTML markup in scripts controled by javascript files screams readability and maintenance issues? Is this just the way of doing asp dev with jQuery? Assuming the second example happens a lot, are there tools that help facilitate jQuery development with visual studio? Do you think they generated the html somewhere else and just copied it in?     I have a CSV dump from another DB that looks like this (id, name, notes): 1001,John Smith,15 Main Street 1002,Jane Smith,"2010 Rockliffe Dr. Pleasantville, IL USA" 1003,Bill Karr,2820 West Ave. The last field may contain carriage returns and commas, in which case it is surrounded by double quotes. I use this code to import CSV into my table: BULK INSERT CSVTest FROM 'c:\csvfile.csv' WITH ( FIELDTERMINATOR = ',', ROWTERMINATOR = '\n' ) SQL Server 2005 bulk insert cannot figure out that carriage returns inside quotes are not row terminators. How to overcome?

  • With sqlalchemy how to dynamically bind to database engine on a per-request basis

    I have a Pylons-based web application which connects via Sqlalchemy (v0.5) to a Postgres database. For security, rather than follow the typical pattern of simple web apps (as seen in just about all tutorials), I'm not using a generic Postgres user (e.g. "webapp") but am requiring that users enter their own Postgres userid and password, and am using that to establish the connection. That means we get the full benefit of Postgres security. Complicating things still further, there are two separate databases to connect to. Although they're currently in the same Postgres cluster, they need to be able to move to separate hosts at a later date. We're using sqlalchemy's declarative package, though I can't see that this has any bearing on the matter. Most examples of sqlalchemy show trivial approaches such as setting up the Metadata once, at application startup, with a generic database userid and password, which is used through the web application. This is usually done with Metadata.bind = create_engine(), sometimes even at module-level in the database model files. My question is, how can we defer establishing the connections until the user has logged in, and then (of course) re-use those connections, or re-establish them using the same credentials, for each subsequent request. We have this working -- we think -- but I'm not only not certain of the safety of it, I also think it looks incredibly heavy-weight for the situation. Inside the __call__ method of the BaseController we retrieve the userid and password from the web session, call sqlalchemy create_engine() once for each database, then call a routine which calls Session.bind_mapper() repeatedly, once for each table that may be referenced on each of those connections, even though any given request usually references only one or two tables. So the create_engine() calls occur on every request... I can see that being needed, and the Connection Pool probably caches them and does things sensibly. But calling Session.bind_mapper() once for each table, on every request? Seems like there has to be a better way. Obviously, since a desire for strong security underlies all this, we don't want any chance that a connection established for a high-security user will inadvertently be used in a later request by a low-security user.

  • Cant get flexigrid to work in Jquery Tools Tab

    Im fairly new to jquery and Im using jquery tools for tabs. I am wanting in one of the tabs to show flexigrid, but when I try to do this flexigrid does not show up, its just blank. If I setup flexigrid in a stand alone page outside the tab it works just fine. Below is the code that isnt working.   • Possible to cancel paging in ListView using DataPager

    I'm using a datapager control on my listview to perform paging in it. When paging through the table, I need to perform some validations. When these validations are not successfull, the paging should be cancelled. I currently perform the validation in the PagePropertiesChanging event of the ListView, however, the arguments do not provide a Cancel property. protected void MyListView_PagePropertiesChanging(object sender, PagePropertiesChangingEventArgs e) { if (!Validate()) { // cancel the paging action} } Does anyone know if canceling the paging is possible and how to perform it?
