• Adding JPanel onto another JPanel after button click

  I'm using Netbeans IDE to make a gui application. I have a JFrame with a JPanel inside it. After a button click I want to display a different JPanel inside the first. The other JPanel is in a different file. How would I go about doing this? If this is not practical I don't mind replacing the first JPanel with the second one. I've tried the following but it doesn't seem to work.   Using the .NET framework, I'm trying to replace double slash characters in a string with a single slash, but it seems to be removing an extra character and I don't know why. But I want to be able do the following, if possible. TextType textFromStringConstant = "SomeOtherText"; I can't extend the String class with the TextType implicit operator overload, but is there any way to assign a literal string to another class (which is handled by a method or something)? String is a reference type so when they developed C# they obviously had to use some way to get a string literal to the class. I just hope it's not hardcoded into the language.

  Im developing desktop java application using maven. I got a *.properties file that I need to retrive during execution (src/resources/application.properties). The only thing comes to my mind is to use: private Properties applicationProperties; applicationProperties.load(new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream("src/resources/application.properties"))); This would work if I run my application directly from IDE. I want to to keep outpout hierarchy clear, so I set maven to copy resources folder dircetly to target folder (which is a basedir for the output application). This way application.properties file won't load (since I have target/resources/application.properties but not target/src/resources/application.properties). What is the best way to manage resources so they work both when I debug from IDE and run builded jar file directly?

The problem I am having is that after I load the entity and try to update the collection, I don't get any errors, but the collection is never updated: Entity: @OneToMany(cascade = CascadeType.PERSIST) @JoinTable protected List<User> users; File Servlet @In private EntityQuery<File> File_findById; ... File file = File_findById(fileId); file.getUsers().add(user); session.update(file); Even though I call session.update(file) and I see stuff in hibernate logs, I don't see anything in the database indicating that it was saved.   We would like to reserve a set of primary key identifiers for all tables (e.g. 1-1000) so that we can bootstrap the system with pre-loaded system data. All our JPA entity classes have the following definition for the primary key. @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = IDENTITY) @Column(name = "id", unique = true, nullable = false, insertable = false, updatable = false) private Integer id; is there a way to tell the database that increments should start happening from 1000 (i.e. customer specific data will start from 1000 onwards). We support (h2, mysql, postgres) in our environment and I would prefer a solution which can be driven via JPA and reverse engineering DDL tools from Hibernate. Let me know if this is the correct approach

• Can't pass a single parameter to lambda function in MVVM Light Toolkit's RelayCommand

  I don't know if there's a difference between Josh Smith's and Laurent Bugnion's implementations of RelayCommand or not, but everywhere I've looked, it sounds like the Execute portion of RelayCommand can take 0 or 1 parameters. I've only been able to get it to work with 0. When I try something like: public class Test { public RelayCommand MyCommand { get; set; } public Test() { MyCommand = new RelayCommand((param) => SomeFunc(param)); } private void SomeFunc( object param) { } } I get the error: Delegate 'System.Action' does not take '1' arguments. Just to make sure I am not insane, I went to the definition of RelayCommand to make sure I didn't have some rogue implementation in my solution somewhere, but sure enough, it was just Action, and not Action<. What on earth am I missing here?

• HttpWebRequest is extremely slow!

  Hello, I am using an open source library to connect to my webserver. I was concerned that the webserver was going extremely slow and then I tried doing a simple test in Ruby and I got these results Ruby program: 2.11seconds for 100 HTTP GETs C# library: 20.81seconds for 100 HTTP GETs I have profiled and found the problem to be this function: private HttpWebResponse GetRawResponse(HttpWebRequest request) { HttpWebResponse raw = null; try { raw = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); //This line! } catch (WebException ex) { if (ex.Response is HttpWebResponse) { raw = ex.Response as HttpWebResponse; } } return raw; } The marked line is takes over 1 second to complete by itself while the ruby program making 1 request takes .3 seconds. I am also doing all of these tests on 127.0.0.1, so network bandwidth is not an issue. What could be causing this huge slow down?

• Rails fails to return scripts/stylesheets

  This only happens on my local machine (Windows 7, Ruby 1.8.7). Occasionally rails will just stop returning my stylesheets/javascript and I'll get gross looking pages. If I navigate directly to those scripts, sometimes they work, and sometimes I get errors like: private method `gsub!' called for #<Class:0x76ff830> What could be causing this? It is usually more a nuisance than anything because of lack of styles, but when I'm trying to test out my javascript it becomes an issue. Thanks!

  Hi Guys, I have a 'dog' Entitiy with an @Id and a @TableGenerator ... @TableGenerator(table = "seq", name = "dog_gen", pkColumnName = "seq_name", valueColumnName="seq_val") @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.TABLE, generator = "dog_gen") private Long id; ... Is there a way to reuse the same table generator (dog_gen) in other entity? I want to keep the same id sequence in two independent Entities, say dog=1, dog=2, dog=3, cat=4, cat=5, dog=6 and so on... Both entities don't share a common superclass to implement some kind of inheritance with the id property. If I add the @GeneratedValue( generator="dog_gen") on my cat entity, omitting the @TableGenerator declaration throws an Exception saying it can't find the generator when starting the context. Take a look at this: WebClient client = new WebClient(); WebRequestSettings wrs = new WebRequestSettings(new URL("http://stackoverflow.com/ping/?what-the-duck?"), HttpMethod.HEAD); client.getPage(wrs); Running this code results in throwing FileNotFoundException, because HTTP Status code on the page is 404 and getting the same page again with the GET method, with User-Agent set to Java-.... Why does it GET the page (it doesn't happen with "normal" status codes)? Is this a bug?   Ok, I know that property overloading is not supported in C# - most of the references explain it by citing the single-method-different-returntype problem. However, what about setters? I'd like to directly assign a value as either a string or object, but only return as a string. Like this: public string FieldIdList { get { return fieldIdList.ToString(); } set { fieldIdList = new FieldIdList(value); } } public FieldIdList FieldIdList { set { fieldIdList = value; } } private FieldIdList fieldIdList; Why wouldn't this be allowed? I've also seen that "properties" simply create getter/setter functions on compile. Would it be possible to create my own? Something like: public void set_FieldIdList(FieldIdList value) { fieldIdList = value; } That would do the same thing. Thoughts?

• MonoRail - Select parent category from one dropdown, show child category dropdown

  Hey, I'm new to MonoRail and am trying to figure out how to have it so that I can select a parent category in a dropdown then have it show a second dropdown with the categories that are children of the parent. If I were using what I'm used to, ASP.NET MVC, I would have a javascript function that would be called onchange of the first dropdown and would make an ajax call to a controller method (passing in the selected parent category id) that would grab all child categories of that parent category and return them in JSON. Then in the callback javascript function I would eval the JSON and populate the second dropdown with the child categories. How would I do this using MonoRail/jQuery? • Databinding race condition

  I have a login form (using ChildWindow) and have implemented a Keyup event handler on the passwordbox. If the key is enter then it sets the ChildWindow ResultDialog to true. What seems to be happening is the databinding on the Passwordbox is not happening before the childwindow is closed so the Password property on my Login control is null. I've tried using KeyUp and Keydown, as well as using a buttonAutoPeer to invoke a click on the Ok button. The problem is i get only contacts i created myself using no syncAdapter. I used facebook app to synch my facebook contacts, but this query doesn't return them. I extracted the contacts2.db from the emulator and the view_contacts view shows me all the contacts, so the DB is updated. What should i do to get all the contacts regardless of how they were created (with which synch adapter)

Now I'd like to expand / collapse the groups with a single mouse-click (not with a double click as the default behaviour). • ModelState.AddModelError encodes HTML

  Hi I am noticing a weird issue when using ModelState.AddModelError to validate input on my forms. The output from Html.ValidationMessage is not the true HTML value but it's encoded value and so the CSS style is not applied to the error message.
