• Display errorList and showErrors in html page.

  I am having application.html where I used jquery.validate.js and it works fine and submit my data to process.php. But I want if there is an error generated by jquery.validate.js then I know the how many errors generated by validate.js in application.php. I am going to implement if there are number of errors generated then uploading function will be disable. If there is no error generated then uploading function will work. I hope this is simple question but I dont know about jquery much. If you have solution then please share it with me. Cheers!!!

• How does a youtube embed suppress the buffering of a video file?

  When a youtube video is displayed within an external site, a poster image is displayed but the actual video is not loaded until the user clicks the play button. At that point, the video file begins to buffer and the video plays. This seems to be different than many sites, where a flash video is embedded and the video begins to buffer automatically in the background on page load, regardless of whether the video is set to autoplay or not. How would you set up a flash video (non-youtube) to have the same behavior as youtube, where buffering does not occur at pageload? Is it an output setting that is selected during the flash video rendering process, or is it accomplished using a different method?

  The other day I needed to archive a lot of data on our network and I was frustrated I had no immediate way to harness the power of multiple machines to speed-up the process. I understand that creating a distributed job management system is a leap from a command-line archiving tool. I'm now wondering what the simplest solution to this type of distributed performance scenario could be. Would a custom tool always be a requirement or are there ways to use standard utilities and somehow distribute their load transparently at a higher level? Thanks for any suggestions.

• Turning user ID into name (seperate tables) in PHP

  I am currently trying to display the username of people who i am following, the problem is that during the following process, only the ID of me and the person i'm following is stored. I've got it to the point where the ID's are displayed but i'd like to show the names hyperlinked. $p_id is the profile ID. Here's what I've got: $following = mysql_query("SELECT `follower`, `followed` FROM user_follow WHERE follower=$p_id"); I am following: <?php while($apple = mysql_fetch_array($following)){ echo '<a href="'.$apple['followed'].'">+'.$apple['followed'].'</a> '; }?> The usernames are in a different table "users" under the field "username" - I need them to match up with the ID's that are currently displayed, and be displayed. • SQL update statement to change the value of a field and not replace it

  I'm in the process of migrating some databases. I have this table that has a couple of hundred rows, and has a filename column. To each record in this table, the filename column needs to be altered and part of a path needs to be prepended to the value that is in that field. The table is like: | 1 | filename1 | | 2 | filename2 | and needs to become: | 1 | path/filename1 | | 2 | path/filename2 | I am not an SQL guru, but I know the basics. This eludes me though. Is there a way to do something like: update table set filename = 'path/' + filename where id = 1;

• Java - Can i have a faster performance for this loop ?

  I am reading a book and deleting a number of words from it. My problem is that the process takes long time, and i want to make its performance better(Less time), example : Vector<String> pages = new Vector<String>(); // Contains about 1500 page, each page has about 1000 words. Vector<String> wordsToDelete = new Vector<String>(); // Contains about 50000 words. for( String page: pages ) { String pageInLowCase = page.toLowerCase(); for( String wordToDelete: wordsToDelete ) { if( pageInLowCase.contains( wordToDelete ) ) page = page.replaceAll( "(?i)\\b" + wordToDelete + "\\b" , "" ); } // Do some staff with the final page that does not take much time. } This code takes around 3 minutes to execute. If i skipped the loop of replaceAll(...) i can save more than 2 minutes. So is there a way to do the same loop with a faster performance ?

  I'm running the scikit learn on some rather large training datasets ~1,600,000,000 rows with ~500 features. The platform is Ubuntu server 14.04, the hardware has 100gb of ram and 20 CPU cores. The test datasets are about half as many rows. I set n_jobs = 10, and am forest_size = 3*number_of_features so about 1700 trees. If I reduce the number of features to about 350 it works fine but never completes the training phase with the full feature set of 500+. The process is still executing and using up about 20gb of ram but is using 0% of CPU. I have also successfully completed on datasets with ~400,000 rows but twice as many features which completes after only about 1 hour. I am being careful to delete any arrays/objects that are not in use. Does anyone have any ideas I might try?

  I have a Python script that process a huge text file (with around 4 millon lines) and writes the data into two separate files. I have added a print statement, which outputs a string for every line for debugging. I want to know how bad it could be from the performance perspective? If it is going to very bad, I can remove the debugging line. Edit It turns out that having a print statement for every line in a file with 4 million lines is increasing the time way too much.

  I am working with Tomcat 5.5.x with Struts 1.2 to run a rather large website (large w.r.t. source code). I'm looking to add OpenID to my website, mostly to access attribute exchange to help accelerate the registration process. Every Java implementation for OpenID I have attempted to use will cause a ServletException. Tracing this has been very difficult, but it seems merely instancing any class that makes use of Apache HttpClient will cause the crash. Is this a configuration problem I can address in the JVM, or is it positively wrong to try to initiate an outbound Http request from within an inbound Http request?

  We have a c# (3.5 framework) socket server which is a console app, after about 3000 connections (or less, it's quite random), we get an unhandled exception which crashes the app completely. • Perl parsing ps fwaux output

  I am trying to figure out children processes of a given parent from ps fwaux (there may very well be a better way to do this). Basically, I have daemons running that may or may not have a child process running at any given time. In another script I want to check if there are any child processes, and if so do something. If not, error out. ps fwaux|grep will show me the tree, but I'm not exactly sure what to do with it. Any suggestions would be great.

• "Inlining" (kind of) functions at runtime in C

  Hi, I was thinking about a typical problem that is very JIT-able, but hard to approach with raw C. The scenario is setting up a series of function pointers that are going to be "composed" (as in maths function composition) once at runtime and then called lots and lots of times. Doing it the obvious way involves many virtual calls, that are expensive, and if there are enough nested functions to fill the CPU branch prediction table completely, then the performance with drop considerably. In a language like Lisp, I could probably process the code and substitute the "virtual" call by the actual contents of the functions and then call compile to have an optimized version, but that seems very hacky and error prone to do in C, and using C is a requirement for this problem ;-) So, do you know if there's a standard, portable and safe way to achieve this in C?   I am in the process of creating a website/phone application using JQuery Mobile and PhoneGap. I am hoping to add openID support so users can login in with pre-existing accounts. It will be necessary for me to have a database with a few tables to enable me to implement all the core functionality I desire. I haven't really had much experience with frameworks before, the closest thing I have done to this is create a basic website using php that connected to a MySql database stored on the machine that hosted the apache webserver. The interaction with the database won't be complex. I am required to use a java framework for the backend of my application. My question is which java framework is most suitable (flexible and straight forward to learn)? Any advice you guys can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  I am trying to git clone the LibreOffice codebase, but at the moment I have an internet connection by mobile phone of about 300kbps and it's just anything but stable. I can get the connection back any moment, but then the git clone process already stopped working, and no way to get it running again. Is there some way to have a more failure-resistant git clone download? One option I considered myself is to download someone else's .git directory, but that is overly dependent of others and doesn't seem like the best possible solution to me.

  Here is the situation dealing with a vb.net website, I have students who will be enrolled into a course. The student grid view has many columns like client_no, student_name, date_of_birth, address, etc. There are over 100000 students so I will need to filter the student grid view to find the correct student to enroll in the course. Once they are found, the user selects them and somehow moves them to the enrolled grid view. If a student drops out then they would be removed from the enrolled grid view.   Hi, We are facing one problem in managing test data(xmls which is used to create mock objects). The data which we have currently has been evolved over a long period of time. Each time we add a new functionality or test case we add new data to test that functionality. Now, the problem is when the business requirement changes the format( like length or format of a variable) or any change which the test data doesn't support , we need to change the entire test data which is 100s of MBs in size.   Hi Everyone! I get files in different formats coming from different systems that I need to import into our database. Part of the import process it to check the line length to make sure the format is correct. We seem to be having issues with files coming from UNIX systems where one character is added. I suspect this is due to the return carriage being encoded differently on UNIX and windows platform. Is there a way to detect on which file system a file was created, other than checking the last character on the line? Or maybe a way of reading the files as text and not binary which I suspect is the issue? Thanks Guys !

  Please see the warning below taken from the StreamWriter class specification (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.streamwriter.aspx): "Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." I understand that a W3WC process contains two thread pools i.e. worker threads and I/O threads. A worker thread could contain many threads of its own (if the application creates its own System.Thread instances). Does the warning only relate to System.Threads or does it relate to worker threads and I/O threads as well I.e. as the instance variables of the streamwriter class are not thread safe then does this mean that there would be problems if multiple worker threads access it eg if two users on two different web clients attempt to write to the log file at the same time, then could one lock out the other?

  I've seen various Grails plugins which allow easier handling of file uploads, however these tend only to support a single file per form-submit. I'd like a multi-attach form where as soon as you pick one file, an extra field and button is added using JS (various sites do it like this). Do you know of any good plugins which provide elegant uploading of multiple files without excessive coding? A progress bar either per-file of for the whole process would also be very nice. I don't know to what extent I can allow GORM to handle a java.io.File field (or in this case a Collection<File>).

• Cannot attach to a service in VS 2008

  I have created a service in VS 2008 called EmailReader. I have compiled, installed and started the service. Its timer loop is writing records to a log file, so I can see that it is running. I am trying to attach to it in VS 2008, but the process name is greyed out in the list of available processes, and the name is "EmailReader.vshost.exe" instead of "EmailReader.exe". There is probably a simple answer, but I don't know it. Do you?

  I'm in the process of designing this site http://www.parisgaa.org/parisgaels and have a problem. The image slider on the homepage messes up sometimes. Most of the time it works and looks fine, but other times its positioning seems to get messed up and it appears underneath the content that should be below it (i.e. with that content overlapping the image). You should be able to replicate this in Chrome - just refresh a couple of times. I'd appreciate any help at all.
