• PHP + IIS Application Pool Identity Windows\Temp permissions

  I am currently running PHP (5.3) on IIS 7.5 on a Win2k8 R2 Web Edition Server and would like to know what, if any, problems or security vulnerabilities I may introduct into a system by assigning Read, Write, Modify & Execute permissions to either IUSR account or the IIS_USERS group for %SystemRoot%\Temp? Should I be altering permissions to that folder at all (as Windows reminds me I probably shouldn't when i attempt to change them)? Should I create a temp folder somewhere else and set permissions accordingly? The problem is when i set Anonymous Authentication (I'm guessing is a more secure option???) to use the App Pool identity, when starting sessions PHP gets stuck in a loop because it's unable to create session files in the %SystemRoot%\Temp folder due to lack of permission on the application pool user or IIS_USERS group. Another problem being ImageMagick (PHP Extension) is being denied access to %SystemRoot%\Temp to write temporary files so is throwing exceptions. I have tried searching Google however have not found anything that touches upon this subject specifically. Any help greatly appreciated.

• Password Expired on Server 2008 R2

  Hello everybody, We're facing some trouble with our Windows Server 2008 R2 installation. The passwords expired and we're prompted to change the password. After changing it, we get following error message: Configuration Information could no be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. But we aren't even using a domain controller. So we tried running the server in Safe Mode where we get following message after changing the password: An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started. Are there any other things I could try? All help is more than appreciated!

  I'm running Win XP SP3 on an IBM R50e laptop, and I just realized a folder named c8c6ac6192a47b59df in the root of my C:\ drive. I can see 2 folders in it named amd64 and i386. These two folders cannot be opened. XP says: c8c6ac6192a47b59df cannot be accessed. Access Denied. However, when I view the properties of the strangely-named folder, it shows 2 folders, 0 files, 0 bytes. I tried Unlocker to be able to unlock and delete the folder, but Unlocker says there are no handlers. What's this folder and how can I delete it?

• Clone MySQL DB - errors with CREATE VIEW/SHOW VIEW privileges

  Running MySQL 5.0.32 on Debian 4.0 (Etch). I'm trying to clone a WordPress MySQL database completely (structure and data) on the same server. I tried a dump to an .sql file and an import into a new empty database from the command line, but the import fails with errors saying the user does not have the "SHOW VIEW" or "CREATE VIEW" privilege. Trying it with PHPMyAdmin doesn't work either. I also tried doing this with the MySQL root user (not named "root" though) and it shows an "Access Denied" error. I'm terribly confused as to where the problem is. Any pointers on cloning a MySQL DB and granting all privileges to a user account would be great (specifically for MySQL 5.0.32). Thanks!

  Would there be any problem if the program is listed in add and remove program and Program Files ? I have some application enlisted in "Add and Remove program" but files has been deleted. Also I have removed some program but it's file are still there and when i try to delete it manually, i get error "Access Denied ....". • Why do Windows 7 & 8 have different default behaviour when trying to modify contents of protected folder

  Here's the situation: I have a Windows 7 PC and a Windows 8 PC and I'm logged in as the same domain user on both machines. My domain user is in the local Administrator group on both. When I run cmd.exe on each machine and then attempt to do this (also on both machines) mkdir "c:\Program Files\cheese" the Windows 8 PC gives an "Access Denied" error, while it works fine on the Windows 7 PC. I understand that C:\Program Files is a protected folder and I'm not interested in a debate on the morals of writing to such a folder directly. But I am interested in understanding what exactly has changed in Windows 8 to cause this. I don't seem to be able to find anything that acknowledges or explains this change in behaviour in Windows 8.

  I am having trouble configuring squid to work as reverse proxy here is my scenario squid is installed on server with ip 10.1.1.139 I have another computer that is acting as my proxy server 10.1.85.106 which has access to 10.1.85.106/program I want 10.1.1.139/program to be redirected to 10.1.85.106 I have added cache_peer 10.1.85.106 parent 80 0 no-query originserver name=server_1 cache_peer_domain server_1 /program /program/ program when I go to 10.1.1.139/program I get "The following error was encountered while trying to retrieve the URL: /program Invalid URL" Since the error is not related to access denied I don't think it is due to access restrictions. • Error accessing other groups files in apache

  I am using Cloud9 IDE on my server, which creates files with default permission 640. As a result when I try to open those file via HTTP, apache shows permission denied error. When IDE is running as root user, files created belong to root:root. Also, when I see as what user is apache running, all its processes are shown to be running as root user. I cannot understand why still it cannot access files. I know if I add apache's user to group of file owner, it will work. But, I don't know which user to add. PS: I don't want to change permission of each file I create. I want less troubling solution.

• How to disable a McAfee service?

  I am trying to disable a McAfee Real-Time Protection service, but if I go into Services/Properties, then try to set it to Manual or Disable - it says that unable to open service McShield for writing on Local Computer. Error 5. Access is denied. I've tried logging in as an Admin, to no avail. I've tried resetting permissions in the registry to the key where the McAfee service is described...nothing helped. Logging in with Safe Mode did not help either. How can I disable this service? Is there a way to disable a service before even getting into Windows? P.S. Uninstalling McAfee is not an option.

• Problems executing check_mysql plugin

  I'm attempting to test out the check_mysql plugin for Nagios using the command line. It works great when I'm just checking localhost but when I try to specify a different server (using the -H argument) I keep getting the following error message: CRITICAL - Unable to connect to mysql://nagios_user@{remoteServerHostname}/ - Access denied for user 'nagios_user'@'{localServerHostName}' (using password: YES) It looks like it's trying to connect to the database using the localhost server even though I've specified a different host name. I've already set up this user on the remote database and they have correct permissions. I'm just trying to figure out why the script keeps inserting the localhost server name instead of the remote one.

• MySQL Server Not Starting on Boot

  I have installed MySQL on a RHEL 5 server and I'm wanting to set it up so that the server starts on boot. I've ran the "chkconfig --list mysqld" command and it's currently running on levels 3, 4 and 5. However, when I reboot the server, no mysqld process is started. • Updating a script currently being ran by Task Scheduler on Windows

  I have a scheduled task that runs a script on a ahem schedule ahem that updates a local git repo. This script is a file in this local git repo. Currently, what I'm seeing is that the script is ran, git complains that permissions are denied to write to file which actually results in the script being deleted! The next time the scheduled task runs the script file is now missing! How can I ensure that when I pull changes to this script from the repo that the file is actually updated?

Actually in my company there is a local server ( 192.168.1.99) where all projects resides and we access phpmyadmin of that local server, Although I have added my project folders with NetBeans (this was also very hectic) but now I am having problem to connect database of my local server as I can see 192.168.1.99/phpmyadmin through my browser. I have set below value Server Host : localhost, Server port number : 3306, Administrator username : keshav Administrator password : ****** and when i click on connect, a popup error windows appears with below text Unable to connect to the MySQL server: org.netbeans.api.db.explorer.DatabaseException: org.netbeans.api.db.explorer.DatabaseException: java.sql.SQLException: Access denied for user 'keshav'@'localhost' (using password: YES).   I try to create file in folder with group write access, user tomcat7 is in group. • Can not run ifconfig like commands via browser

  Problem is I cannot run "ifconfig" or similar commands via browser. Environment: Programming language : python Server : lighttpd(CGI) , running on busybox. Well machine is really small and so I am really restricted. Tried techniques: chown every script to root. But there is no differences. Why? Because lighttpd runs under another user, I mean not under root. As it is not root, when I try to run script from browser it always calls the python file with its uid. So it makes it impossible to run "ifconfig eth0 192.168.2.123" like commands via web browser. I get "ifconfig: SIOCSIFADDR: Permission denied" error. What can I do? I do not have any sudoers file, so cannot modify sudo command. Well, I don't even have "sudo" command :) Thanks for your help

• Setting Linux UID on NFS volume from EMC NX4

  I have an EMC NX4 from which there are several CIFS shares with corresponding NFS mount points. The CIFS user ids seem fine but when viewed from Linux they are all 327xx numbers and can't be set from the file system. (IE CHOWN doesn't work - permission denied). On our other (older) EMC devices we used an MMC app to set the Linux UID for each user. I don't seem to have such an app on the 'Applications and Tools' CD for this new device. Is there some other method for setting these? Did I setup the system incorrectly?

• Postfix, saslauthd, mysql, smtp authentication problems

  Trying to get authentication on my mail server (ubuntu 10.04) running but am having trouble. I have a server with postfix for smtp setup, imap server with courier setup. My postfix authentication is using cyrus (I haven't tried dovecot really) saslauth. The user name and password is stored in a MySql database. Logging in with imap-ssl works on a remote client (thunderbird), and I can read my mail. I can't get the SMTP side working, and have focused the issue down to saslauth. Testing with testsaslauthd -u 'username' -p 'passowrd' -s smtp returns connect() : Permission denied the password in the database is encrypted and I guess this testsaslauthd will take a plain text password and encrypt it. Looking for someone to walk me through getting this working. Im new to the mail server, and have never got one fully working. Thanks. Ask me which log files I should look at/post, which tests to run, permissions to check.

• ubuntu fails to start

  I have a laptop with ubuntu 9.10 which fails to start, and I want to copy the data from it to an external hard disk. I can login in recovery mode command line, but then I cannot mount the external hard drive. (in recovery mode I cannot write to the laptops hard drive) If I boot from an portable USB with mintlinux, I can mount the external harddrive, and copy most of the data from the laptop, however there is a dir which I have no rights to access under /home/user/Documents then I get a permission denied error. Are there any other options?

• Change permission of files with the owner 'apache'

  Hay, i have some files on my server with the owner set to "apache", I'm not quite sure how this happened. Anyway, i need to change the permission of these files to 0777 so i can download/edit them. However i cannot. I'm using a 1and1 Linux server and use Plesk to administrate it. I have the ability to login via SSH. However, if i run chmod or chown i get a "permission denied" error, and if i try to sudo chmod or chown it says the command cannot be found. When i go to edit my domain details, i get this option Shell access to server with FTP user's credentials and have these options /bin/sh /bin/bash /sbin/nologin /bin/bash (chrooted) /bin/rbash Any idea's how i should go about changing the permissions or changing the owner?   I setup Postfix and Dovecot on a new Ubuntu box following these directions. From a client machine, I validate that POP3 seems to be working telnet mydomain.com 110 +OK Dovecot ready. USER [email protected] +OK PASS mypassword +OK Logged in. quit +OK Logging out. However, when trying to configure Gmail on the same client to retrieve email via POP3, I get the error Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password. Server returned error: "Login failed." I carefully confirmed that Gmail is configured to use the same POP Server, Port, Username and Password I used when checking the connection with telnet. What could be causing Gmail to get a "Login failed" message?

• Linux file permissions seem right but I can't write to a directory

  I believe that I have the permissions set correctly but I can't write to a directory. I am in the webz group but I still can't make any changes. What am I doing wrong here?
