  • Get the selected drop down list value from a FormCollection in MVC

    - by James Santiago
    I have a form posting to an action with MVC. I want to pull the selected drop down list item from the FormCollection in the action. How do I do it? My Html form: <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <select name="Content List"> <% foreach (String name in (ViewData["names"] as IQueryable<String>)) { %> <option value="<%= name %>"><%= name%></option> <% } %> </select> <p><input type="submit" value="Save" /></p> <% } %> My Action: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Index(FormCollection collection) { //how do I get the selected drop down list value? String name = collection.AllKeys.Single(); return RedirectToAction("Details", name); }

  • Silverlight DataForm Memory Leak

    - by Andrew Garrison
Some Background I have noticed that setting the EditTemplate of a DataForm (from the Silverlight Toolkit) can cause the DataForm to not be garbage collected. Consequently, the parent control of the DataForm cannot be garbage collected either, causing a very significant memory leak. Here's some XAML which demonstrates the case. <toolkit:DataForm HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="10" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"> <toolkit:DataForm.EditTemplate> <DataTemplate> <toolkit:DataField Label="Dummy Binding:"> <TextBox Text="{Binding DummyBinding, Mode=TwoWay}" /> </toolkit:DataField> </DataTemplate> </toolkit:DataForm.EditTemplate> </toolkit:DataForm> I have opened an issue on CodePlex. The isssue has an attachment which has a project which desmonstrates the case. So, My Question Is Has anyone else encountered this issue? More importantly, does anyone know of any workarounds? How can I force this DataForm to be garbage collected?

  • Awstats showing 404s for pages and objects I definitely don't have...

    - by Andrew Heath
I have a HostGator site using Awstats and I've recently noticed the following 3 bizarre 404s: [address] [times] /images/wikimedia-button.png 1 /apple-touch-icon.png 1 /imgs/custom-space.gif 1 the first and third also carry referrers from within my site, but are 100% definitely absolutely not linked by any of my pages. I'm not too worried about it, seeing as each one has only popped up once. But I am concerned about why Awstats thinks one of my pages is referring what is apparently a wikipedia image, and why Steve Jobs is trying to haxx0r me (/joke) This is my first site to receive moderate daily usage, so I'm curious if these sorts of unique weird-o 404s just come with the territory, or if I should be double-checking something... Thanks!

  • Suggestions on bug lifecycle and release management

    - by Andrew Edgecombe
Our group is currently analysing our procedures for managing formal software releases and integrating with a bug lifecycle. What bug lifecycle model do you use? And why? For example assume a that formal releases are generated for QA once per week. At what point do you mark bugs as resolved? When the developer has committed their changes? When the changes have been reviewed and merged into the release branch? When the formal release candidate has been created? And what process, or features of your bug tracking sofware, do you use for tracking this? Are there any tips/suggestions/recommendations that you can share?

  • Rails 3 Form For Custom Action

    - by Andrew
    I'm having trouble routing a form to a custom action in Rails 3. Here are my routes: resources :photos do resources :comments collection do get 'update_states' end member do put 'upload' end end Here's the form_for: form_for @photo, :remote => true, :url => { :action => upload_photo_path(@photo) }, :html => { :multipart => :true, :method => 'put' } do |f| And here's the error message: No route matches {:action=>"/photos/42/upload", :controller=>"photos"} ... this is especially frustrating because "photos/:id/upload" is exactly the correct action for this form. What am I missing? EDITS - Here are the original Photo-related routes: photo_comments GET /photos/:photo_id/comments(.:format) {:action=>"index", :controller=>"comments"} POST /photos/:photo_id/comments(.:format) {:action=>"create", :controller=>"comments"} new_photo_comment GET /photos/:photo_id/comments/new(.:format) {:action=>"new", :controller=>"comments"} edit_photo_comment GET /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id/edit(.:format) {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"comments"} photo_comment GET /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id(.:format) {:action=>"show", :controller=>"comments"} PUT /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id(.:format) {:action=>"update", :controller=>"comments"} DELETE /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id(.:format) {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"comments"} update_states_photos GET /photos/update_states(.:format) {:action=>"update_states", :controller=>"photos"} upload_photo PUT /photos/:id/upload(.:format) {:action=>"upload", :controller=>"photos"} photos GET /photos(.:format) {:action=>"index", :controller=>"photos"} POST /photos(.:format) {:action=>"create", :controller=>"photos"} new_photo GET /photos/new(.:format) {:action=>"new", :controller=>"photos"} edit_photo GET /photos/:id/edit(.:format) {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"photos"} photo GET /photos/:id(.:format) {:action=>"show", :controller=>"photos"} PUT /photos/:id(.:format) {:action=>"update", :controller=>"photos"} DELETE /photos/:id(.:format) {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"photos"} Here are the relevant routes when I changed the route to match 'upload': photo_comments GET /photos/:photo_id/comments(.:format) {:action=>"index", :controller=>"comments"} POST /photos/:photo_id/comments(.:format) {:action=>"create", :controller=>"comments"} } new_photo_comment GET /photos/:photo_id/comments/new(.:format) {:action=>"new", :controller=>"comments"} edit_photo_comment GET /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id/edit(.:format) {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"comments"} photo_comment GET /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id(.:format) {:action=>"show", :controller=>"comments"} PUT /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id(.:format) {:action=>"update", :controller=>"comments"} DELETE /photos/:photo_id/comments/:id(.:format) {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"comments"} update_states_photos GET /photos/update_states(.:format) {:action=>"update_states", :controller=>"photos"} upload_photo /photos/:id/upload(.:format) {:action=>"upload", :controller=>"photos"} photos GET /photos(.:format) {:action=>"index", :controller=>"photos"} POST /photos(.:format) {:action=>"create", :controller=>"photos"} new_photo GET /photos/new(.:format) {:action=>"new", :controller=>"photos"} edit_photo GET /photos/:id/edit(.:format) {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"photos"} photo GET /photos/:id(.:format) {:action=>"show", :controller=>"photos"} PUT /photos/:id(.:format) {:action=>"update", :controller=>"photos"} DELETE /photos/:id(.:format) {:action=>"destroy", :controller=>"photos"} Unfortunately 'match' didn't work any better... -- EDIT -- Just to confirm another scenario here... with this in the routes: resources :photos do resources :comments collection do get 'update_states' end member do match 'upload' end end and this in the view: form_for @photo, :remote => true, :url => { :action => 'upload' }, :html => { :multipart => :true, :id => 'photo_upload' } do |f| I still get: No route matches {:action=>"upload", :controller=>"photos"}

  • Position:absolute

    - by Andrew
I have I have a div called logo. I want the logo to be on top of other areas and to overlap into the the preface top of a drupal site, the logo currently sits in the header area. I looked up position absolute and I think that what I need to use but when I use position absolute the logo disappears, I can see it if I use position fixed, relative etc. I thought the logo was being hidden because I was not using a z-index but even with that I cant see the logo. What am I doing wrong? #logo { position: absolute; top: 30px; /* 30 pixels from the top of the page */ left: 80px; /* 80 pixels from the left hand side */ z-index:1099; border: 1px solid red; /* So we can see what is happening */ } Also does anyone know of a really good free online css course? • Stop IIS 7 Application Pool from build script

    - by Andrew Hanson
How can I stop and then restart an IIS 7 application pool from an MSBuild script running inside TeamCity. I want to deploy our nightly builds to an IIS server for out testers to view. I have tried using appcmd like so: appcmd stop apppool /apppool.name:MYAPP-POOL ... but I have run into elevation issues in Windows 2008 that so far have stopped me from being able to run that command from my TeamCity build process because Windows 2008 requires elevation in order to run appcmd. If I do not stop the application pool before I copy my files to the web server my MSBuild script is unable to copy the files to the server. Has anybody else seen and solved this issue when deploying web sites to IIS from TeamCity?

  • System.Threading.Tasks - Limit the number of concurrent Tasks

    - by James
I have just started to look at the new "System.Threading.Tasks" goodness in .Net 4.0, and would like to know if there is any build in support for limiting the number of concurrent tasks that run at once, or if this should be manually handled. E.G: If I need to call a calculation method 100 times, is there a way to set up 100 Tasks, but have only 5 execute simultaneously? The answer may just be to create 5 tasks, call Task.WaitAny, and create a new Task as each previous one finishes. I just want to make sure I am not missing a trick if there is a better way to do this. Thanks for any help.

  • Unable to run Ajax Minifier as post-build in Visual Studio.

    - by James South
I've set up my post build config as demonstrated at http://www.asp.net/ajaxlibrary/ajaxminquickstart.ashx I'm getting the following error though: The "JsSourceFiles" parameter is not supported by the "AjaxMin" task. Verify the parameter exists on the task, and it is a settable public instance property. My configuration settings...... <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\MicrosoftAjax\ajaxmin.tasks" /> <Target Name="AfterBuild"> <ItemGroup> <JS Include="**\*.js" Exclude="**\*.min.js" /> </ItemGroup> <ItemGroup> <CSS Include="**\*.css" Exclude="**\*.min.css" /> </ItemGroup> <AjaxMin JsSourceFiles="@(JS)" JsSourceExtensionPattern="\.js$" JsTargetExtension=".min.js" CssSourceFiles="@(CSS)" CssSourceExtensionPattern="\.css$" CssTargetExtension=".min.css" /> </Target> I had a look at the AjaxMinTask.dll with reflector and noted that the publicly exposed properties do not match the ones in my config. There is an array of ITaskItem called SourceFiles though so I edited my configuration to match. <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\MicrosoftAjax\ajaxmin.tasks" /> <Target Name="AfterBuild"> <ItemGroup> <JS Include="**\*.js" Exclude="**\*.min.js" /> </ItemGroup> <ItemGroup> <CSS Include="**\*.css" Exclude="**\*.min.css" /> </ItemGroup> <AjaxMin SourceFiles="@(JS);@(CSS)" SourceExtensionPattern="\.js$;\.css$" TargetExtension=".min.js;.min.css"/> </Target> I now get the error: The "SourceFiles" parameter is not supported by the "AjaxMin" task. Verify the parameter exists on the task, and it is a settable public instance property. I'm scratching my head now. Surely it should be easier than this? I'm running Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on a Windows 7 64 bit installation.

  • Using Graphics2D to overlay text on a BufferedImage and return a BufferedImage

    - by Andrew Bolster
I have checked similarly named questions, but they don't answer this use case. Basically, I was to overlay some text (text) at a given coordinate (x,y) I have the below function in a package; protected BufferedImage Process2(BufferedImage image){ Graphics2D gO = image.createGraphics(); gO.setColor(Color.red); gO.setFont(new Font( "SansSerif", Font.BOLD, 12 )); gO.drawString(this.text, this.x, this.y); System.err.println(this.text+this.x+this.y); return image; } I feel like im missing something patently obvious; every reference to Graphics2D I can find is dealing with either games or writing directly to a file but I just want a BufferedImage returned. with the overlay 'rendered' In the current code, the image appears out the end unchanged. Thanks!

  • PresentModalViewController problem.

    - by james.ingham
I have a new view controller on the iPhone which I call using the following line of code: [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:NO]; This works great if animation is on, but I am looking to have an instant switch. The problem is when I set animation to NO, the whole view shifts 20px to the right (it is always in landscape mode) as if there is a status bar but in portrait mode!? In this example the yellow space is the new view controller. I've tried this in a new project and the same thing happens. It may be a bug but does anyone have a fix? Thanks

  • Best way for allowing subdomain session cookies using Tomcat

    - by Andrew Ingram
By default tomcat will create a session cookie for the current domain. If you are on www.example.com, your cookie will be created for www.example.com (will only work on www.example.com). Whereas for example.com it will be created for .example.com (desired behaviour, will work on any subdomain of example.com as well as example.com itself). I've seen a few Tomcat valves which seem to intercept the creation of session cookies and create a replacement cookie with the correct .example.com domain, however none of them seem to work flawlessly and they all appear to leave the existing cookie and just create a new one. This means that two JSESSIONID cookies are being sent with each request. I was wondering if anybody has a definitive solution to this problem.

  • JSP Googlemaps taglib not found, where have I gone wrong?

    - by James.Elsey
I'm trying to add Google Maps onto my JSPs by using the Googlemaps taglib. I've added this into my maven pom <dependency> <groupId>com.lamatek</groupId> <artifactId>googlemaps</artifactId> <version>0.98c</version> <scope>provided<>/scope </dependency> This then included the googlemaps-0.98c library under my project libraries in NetBeans, I right clicked and selected Manually install artifact and located the googlemaps.jar file I had downloaded. I've then added this into my taglibs file <%@taglib prefix="googlemaps" uri="/WEB-INF/googlemaps" %> And have then included this where I actually want to show a map on my jsp <googlemaps:map id="map" width="250" height="300" version="2" type="STREET" zoom="12"> <googlemaps:key domain="localhost" key="xxxx"/> <googlemaps:point id="point1" address="74 Connors Lane" city="Elkton" state="MD" zipcode="21921" country="US"/> <googlemaps:marker id="marker1" point="point1"/> </googlemaps:map> But when I load up my application, I get the following error. org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /jsp/dashboard.jsp(1,1) /jsp/common/taglibs.jsp(6,56) PWC6117: File "/WEB-INF/googlemaps" not found root cause org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /jsp/common/taglibs.jsp(6,56) PWC6117: File "/WEB-INF/googlemaps" not found Have I missed something simple? • WCF with No security

    - by james.ingham
Hi all, I've got a WCF service setup which I can consume and use as intendid... but only on the same machine. I'm looking to get this working over multiple computers and I'm not fussed about the security. However when I set (client side) the security to = none, I get a InvalidOperationException: The service certificate is not provided for target 'http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8731/Design_Time_Addresses/WcfServiceLibrary/ManagementService/'. Specify a service certificate in ClientCredentials. So I'm left with: <security mode="Message"> <message clientCredentialType="None" negotiateServiceCredential="false" algorithmSuite="Default" /> </security> But this gives me another InvalidOperationException: The service certificate is not provided for target 'http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8731/Design_Time_Addresses/WcfServiceLibrary/ManagementService/'. • How do you get Client IP Address in Grails controller?

    - by Andrew
I had code like this in Ruby @clientipaddress = request.env["HTTP_CLIENT_IP"] if (@clientipaddress == nil) @clientipaddress = request.env["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"] end if (@clientipaddress == nil) @clientipaddress = request.env["REMOTE_ADDR"] end if (@clientipaddress != nil) comma = @clientipaddress.index(",") if (comma != nil && comma >= 0) @clientipaddress = @clientipaddress[0, comma] end end It took care of all the possible ways that the ip might show up. For instance, on my local development machine there is no proxy. But in QA and Production the proxies are there and sometimes they provide more than one address. I don't need to know the groovy syntax. Just which methods get me the equivalent of the three different ways I ask for the ip above.

  • mvc presentation model best-practices

    - by Andrew Florko
Hello, everybody How do you usually convert business objects to presentation? For example: Business object Person { Id, FirstName, LastName, Patronymic ... } should be presented as "LastName F. P. " in html layout. We use Presentation classes hierarchy to represent data ready for output from Business model. Questions: Will you keep presentation model completely separated from Business Model. For example, can strong-typed views (MVC ASP.NET) aggregate formatted business data as well as raw business objects (that leads toward <%=Html.Encode(PersonHelper.ToShort(Model.Person))% html layout injections) What architecture layer do you choose for conversion (mvc controllers that formats business data from business layer, for instance). Thank you in advance

  • Why is my Lucene index getting locked?

    - by Andrew Bullock
I had an issue with my search not return the results I expect. I tried to run Luke on my index, but it said it was locked and I needed to Force Unlock it (I'm not a Jedi/Sith though) I tried to delete the index folder and run my recreate-indicies application but the folder was locked. Using unlocker I've found that there are about 100 entries of w3wp.exe (same PID, different Handle) with a lock on the index. Whats going on? I'm doing this in my NHibernate configuration: c.SetListener(ListenerType.PostUpdate, new FullTextIndexEventListener()); c.SetListener(ListenerType.PostInsert, new FullTextIndexEventListener()); c.SetListener(ListenerType.PostDelete, new FullTextIndexEventListener()); And here is the only place i query the index: var fullTextSession = NHibernate.Search.Search.CreateFullTextSession(this.unitOfWork.Session); var fullTextQuery = fullTextSession.CreateFullTextQuery(query, typeof (Person)); fullTextQuery.SetMaxResults(100); return fullTextQuery.List<Person>(); Whats going on? What am i doing wrong? Thanks

  • Facebook Canvas Apps, New API

    - by James
I'm having some trouble with switching to the new JS API for a number of things with creating applications within FB, specifically the "Tab". <!-- function do_perm() { Facebook.showPermissionDialog('publish_stream,email,offline_access', null); } //--> This no longer works for me when called via an onclick command. Also, with the new API and an FBML app. How does this exactly work? The documentation is really poor so I am confused when looking at the old wiki, and the new developer site. Apologies for being pretty vague, but I'm just generally confused with the lack of clear direction with the new API and help would be greatly appreciated. I'm simply just trying to create a call that prompts for the new style user permission dialog, and oncomplete calls another JS function.

  • How to optimize this MySQL query

    - by James Simpson
This query was working fine when the database was small, but now that there are millions of rows in the database, I am realizing I should have looked at optimizing this earlier. It is looking at over 600,000 rows and is Using where; Using temporary; Using filesort (which leads to an execution time of 5-10 seconds). It is using an index on the field 'battle_type.'
