  • How to handle sh: fetch: command not found

    - by Tyler Johnson
Okay, I'm a noobie. I know how to build and compose a website, but I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to servers and server commands, etc. I've recently had a problem with all of my sites on our servers going down all at once and then I have to go in and reboot the server for them to come up again. At first this was annoying, but now it is becoming agonizing as it now takes 3-4 reboots for the websites to come back up. I contacted support for my hosting, but they are not being very helpful. They just keep telling me what the issue might be and basically telling me that I'm going to have to look into it and figure it out, which really isn't possible since I know nothing. Anyway, here are the things they said were possible reasons: They said I have "strange logs" in my Apache webserver log, error: sh: fetch: command not found. My php.ini memory limit is: 256M which is very high. It should be 32M or 64M. Server is reaching Max Clients, meaning we have more than 150 visitors at a time. (They supposedly "fixed" this, but the sites/server are still going down) I have some Wordpress sites with plugins getting errors like: PHP Warning: pack(): Type H: illegal hex digit G in... PHP Fatal error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array in... PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in... PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function file_exists() in... PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' I know that's a lot, but I really am at wits end and have no idea what to do now. If anyone could maybe give me some advice or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks! Oh, and here are the specs for my server: RAM: 2048MB CPU Shares: 40 Primary Disk: 50GB Data Transfer: 75GB Port Speed: 5Mbps

  • where does https on apache get it's configuration?

    - by Matthew
So originally my host (mediatemple dv) has two default directories for the roots: 1)httpdocs/ 2)httpsdocs/ In the conf directory I changed the vhosts.conf and httpd.include and others to change from httpdocs to custom folders. Now I installed a new ssl certificate and https://example.com goes to the default page located at httpsdocs. I'm just wondering where configurations for apache are stored for ssl. Ideas?

  • Only 192.168.0.3 can request most files, but anyone can request /public/file.html

    - by mattalexx
I have the following virtual host on my development server: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com DocumentRoot /srv/web/example.com/pub <Directory /srv/web/example.com/pub> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Allow from 192.168.0.3 </Directory> </VirtualHost> The Allow from 192.168.0.3 part is to only allow requests from my workstation machine. I want to tweak this to allow anyone to request a certain URL: http://example.com/public/file.html How do I change this to allow /public/file.html requests to get through from anyone? Note: /public/file.html doesn't actually exist as a file on the server. I redirect all incoming requests through a single index file using mod_rewrite.

  • Intermittent extrememly long response times when downloading documents

    - by pap
I have a Java web application running om Tomcat 7 with an Apache httpd 2.2 fronting with mod_jk/AJP. One part of the application is serving files (up to 4mb size). Now, normally this all runs very smooth with stable, low response-times. However, in rare instances (<0.1% of downloads), the downloadtime will go beyond 1 minute. After activating the ThreadStuckValve in Tomcat, I can see that the long responses seem to be stuck at org.apache.tomcat.jni.Socket.sendbb(Native method) i.e network I/O. At most, these long-running downloads take 5 minutes, which I strongly suspect is because of the default 300 second timout in Apache 2.2 (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/core.html, "TimeOut directive"). To me, this looks like network problems. The Apache timeout (if that is what is kicking in at the 5 minute mark) indicates that ACK packets are not being transmitted correctly. My questions are what could be causing this? Closed browser at receiving end but socket not signaled as closed properly? Packet loss or some other network failure in transit? Where would I start troubleshooting this? We're running Tomcat and Apache on Windows server 2008-R2 in a vmware virtualized server.

  • Apache: redirect to https before AUTH for server-status

    - by Putnik
I want to force https and basic auth for server-status output (mod_status). If I enable auth and user asks for http://site/server-status apache first asks for pass, then redirects to httpS, then asks for pass again. This question is similar to Apache - Redirect to https before AUTH and force https with apache before .htpasswd but I cannot get it work because we are speaking not about generic folder but Location structure. My config (shortly) is as follows: <Location /server-status> SSLRequireSSL <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /server-status RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80 RewriteRule ^ - [E=nossl] RewriteRule (.*) https://site/server-status} [R=301,L] </IfModule> SetHandler server-status Order deny, allow Deny from all Allow from localhost ip6-localhost Allow from 1.2.3.0/24 Allow from env=nossl AuthUserFile /etc/httpd/status-htpasswd AuthName "Password protected" AuthType Basic Require valid-user Satisfy any </Location> I assume Allow from env=nossl should allow everyone with RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off and server port 80, then force it to redirect but it does not work. Please note, I do not want force to SSL the whole site but /server-status only. If it matters the server has several sites. What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

  • Bouncing between a 502 and 503 error

    - by Dave
This has become an increasingly frustrating ordeal. I'm mostly a web developer, so forgive me if I am using improper terminology here. I have a client that had purchased a domain at JustHost. We built him a website and have it on our own server space. Now, I'm mostly used to dealing with godaddy and it is simple enough to manage dns records and point the A record to our server IP, where Apache on our end deals with the domains via name-based virtual hosts. But for some reason, in setting this up with JustHost, when attempting to go to the domain name, I either get a 502 or 503 error or "webpage does not exist". Now, I know that the basic functionality of the webpage must be working because I can access the the index etc straight through my servers www data (IE [server-ip]/website_folder). I was on the phone with technical support for over three hours yesterday with justhost and the best I could get was "That's really weird..." I've checked my logs and there doesn't seem to be anything coming through to my end. Does anybody have an idea of whats going on here? I would love for it to be a problem on my end, because justhost doesn't seem capable of helping further. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. I forgot to mention that we have several other sites up and running and completely accessible.

  • Intermittent 400 bad request header field is missing ':' with Apache and SSL

    - by David Tinker
Apache is returning rare intermittent 400 "bad request header field is missing ':' olhuaqv3o1t29flvr0 (random string)" errors. This seems to be related to https access and happens from Firefox, IE, Chrome etc. I am using a certificate from rapidssl. Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) DAV/2 SVN/1.6.6 mod_jk/1.2.28 PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8k Anyone know how to fix this?

  • server host name and server ip address redirect (Debian, Apache)

    - by Matthias Reisner
I have the following folder structure on my apache! .../var/www/www.x.tt/htdocs .../var/www/www.y.tt/htdocs I have defined a virtual host for each. So if I type in www.x.tt in my browser I get to the www.x.tt site. And the same for www.y.tt. But now my question! If I type in the server address or the server host name I get to the ../var/www directory but I want that the user will be redirected to the www.x.tt site! Do I have to create a new virtual host for this problem or is it also possible only to add a .htaccess Rule?! Thanks!

  • Apache 410 Gone instructions not working with mod_alias nor mod_rewrite

    - by Peter Boughton
Apache 2.2 seems to be ignoring instructions to return a 410 status. This happens for both mod_alias's Redirect (using 410 or gone) and mod_rewrite's RewriteRule (using [G]), being used inside a .htaccess file. This works: Redirect 302 /somewhere /gone But this doesn't: Redirect 410 /somewhere That line is ignored (as if it had been commented) and the request falls through to other rules (which direct it to an unrelated generic error handling script). Similarly, trying to use a RewriteRule with a [G] flag doesn't work, but the same rule rewriting to a script that generates a 410 does - so the rules aren't the problem and it seems instead to be something about 410/gone that isn't behaving. I can workaround it by having a script sending the 410, but that's annoying and I don't get why it's not working. Any ideas?

  • How do I install mod_dav_svn module on an Apache / MAMP server?

    - by fettereddingoskidney
How do I install additional modules into my server configuration? Currently all of the other modules are installed in /Applications/MAMP/Library/modules...and I see that they are mod_*.so source files, but I cannot seem to get mine to end up here... :? I am trying to set up an SVN repository and use my Apache (MAMP) server to serve the repository. I am using the subversion installation that came (pre-installed?) on Mac OS X 10.5. The repository is working, but I cannot access it remotely through my MAMP server using a client program (Dreamweaver CS5). When I try, I get an error from Dreamweaver, saying: Cannot connect to host xxx: Connection refused. This, I believe, is because I have not properly configured my Apache server to serve the svn repository. So, I added the following lines to my httpd.conf file: <Location /subversion> DAV svn SVNPath /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/svn/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repository" AuthUserFile /applications/mamp/htdocs/.htpasswd Require ServerAdmin </Location> Restarted the server with the command $ /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/apachectl -k restart I used this path because otherwise the default apachectl path is set to /usr/sbin/apachectl, which is the location of the pre-installed command on Mac OS X, since the OS comes packaged with a built-in Apache server. And I get the error: Syntax error on line 1153 of /Applications/MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf: Unknown DAV provider: svn I checked the upper portion of httpd.conf and see that dav_module (mod_dav.so) is loaded and is in fact in my the modules directory of my server. However, mod_dav_svn is not installed in that directory nor is it in the LoadModule portion of httpd.conf. So I need to install it, right? I have tried installing modules into my MAMP server before but was never successful...because I don't know how to do it. Can someone please walk me through how to install that module? Thanks for your time!

  • Curl authentication

    - by Jack Humphries
    I am trying to download a file with cURL from a password protected directory on my site. It is not working. Instead of the downloading the requested file, it downloads a HTML file that says, "Authentication Required!" I'm not sure what the problem is. I've tried both of these (with the same result). The username and password are correct (and if the link below is used in a web browser, the file downloads successfully). 1) The username and password are included as part of the URL. curl https://username:[email protected]/auth/file.dmg --O /file.dmg; 2) The username and password are included as an option. curl -u username:wordpass.1 https://www.example.com/auth/file.dmg --O /file.dmg;

  • Return http status ok (200) on request method OPTIONS Apache

    - by jazz
I have a apache server which uses Reverse Proxy to connect/direct to a tomcat server. Using virtualHost, RequestHeader set X-Forwarded-Proto "http" ServerName image.abc.local DocumentRoot "/var/www/html" ProxyRequests Off ProxyTimeout 600 ProxyPass /abc http://image.abc.local:9001/abc ProxyPass /xyz http://image.abc.local:9001/xyz ProxyPassReverse /abc http://image.abc.local:9001/abc ProxyPassReverse /xyz http://image.abc.local:9001/xyz what i want to achieve here is that, when there is a REQUEST_METHOD OPTIONS i want simply return HTTP status OK (200). I dont want the request to be received by the tomcat server and process it. For performance based concerns i want this request to be handled at apache level. with all the research i was still unable to get this to run; RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} OPTIONS RewriteRule .* - [R=200m] can somebody assist me with what rewrite rule should be there? or is there an alternative to RewriteEngine? Thanks

  • Suspicious process running under user named

    - by Amit
I get a lot of emails reporting this and I want this issue to auto correct itself. These process are run by my server and are a result of updates, session deletion and other legitimate session handling reported as false positives. Here's a sample report: Time: Sat Oct 20 00:00:03 2012 -0400 PID: 20077 Account: named Uptime: 326117 seconds Executable: /usr/sbin/nsd\00507d27e9\0053\00\00\00\00\00 (deleted) The file system shows this process is running an executable file that has been deleted. This typically happens when the original file has been replaced by a new file when the application is updated. To prevent this being reported again, restart the process that runs this excecutable file. See csf.conf and the PT_DELETED text for more information about the security implications of processes running deleted executable files. • Apache Proxy and Rewrite, append directory to URL

    - by ionFish
I have a backend server running on http://10.0.2.20/ from the local network, which serves similar to this: / (root) | |_user1/ | |_www/ | |_private/ | |_user2/ |_www/ |_private/ (etc.) Accessing http://10.0.2.20/user1/ of course, contains 'www' and 'private' folders and is proxied through a public server using Apache's Reverse Proxy. I'd like it so the following happens: http://public-proxy-server/user1/ actually shows the content from http://10.0.2.20/user1/www/ without indicating it in the URL. (/private/ would not be accessible via the public proxy server). The key here, is for it to be dynamic, so all requests to http://public-proxy-server/*/should show content from http://10.0.2.20/*/www/. Again, the proxy currently works fine; below is the config: (On the public server) <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.domain.com ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyVia full ProxyPass / http://10.0.2.20/ ProxyPassReverse / http://10.0.2.20/ </VirtualHost> (On the backend server) <VirtualHost *:80> ... #this directory contains folders 'user1' and 'user2' DocumentRoot /var/www/ ... </VirtualHost>

  • How to automatically restart Apache service after HTTP 503 error?

    - by Gnanam
Our production server is running Apache v2.2.4 on CentOS5.2. Mono v1.2.4 is integrated within Apache. Recently, we faced a problem in our production server. From Apache's access_log, I found a HTTP 500 internal server error for one of the HTTP request and all subsequent HTTP requests also failed but with HTTP 503 service unavailable error. From thereafter, none of the requests were successful. Also, only later some time, we realized that our application was not working because of this error and then we restarted Apache service. My questions are, in this kind of situation, how do I automatically restart Apache service when HTTP 503 error is encountered? Is there any Apache directive available to set? in general, what would cause a HTTP 503 error in Apache? NOTE: Mono helps in running applications developed in .NET on a Linux-based OS. EDIT: I agree on finding the root cause of this problem. In fact, we've been analyzing that too. Till we resolve it, am finding whether this could be restarted immediately on its own without having any downtime/service disruption for application users.

  • How to prevent mod_cluster as single point failure?

In my configuration on one system i have install Apache+mod_cluster + JBOSS AS 7.1.0 and on other system JBOSS AS 7.1.0. Both JBOSS AS 7.1.0 are in domain mode means in clustering. My problem is that if Apche+mod_cluster crash than client can not access any JBOSS AS . I want to configure Apache+mod_cluster in Master_Slave format, means if one of Apache+mod_cluter down another Apache+mod_cluster become active and pass client(browser) request to back-end server in normal form without any interruption. Is there any way to make two Apache+mod_cluster to communicate with each other , means to check health status of each other and if any one get down other Apche+mod_cluster will do it's task ......

  • Allow from referer for HTTP-basic protected SSL apache site

    - by user64204
I have an apache site protected by HTTP basic authentication. The authentication is working fine. Now I would like to bypass authentication for users that are coming from a particular website by relying on the HTTP Referer header. Here is the configuration: SetEnvIf Referer "^http://.*.example\.org" coming_from_example_org <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Deny from all Allow from env=coming_from_example_org AuthName "login required" AuthUserFile /opt/http_basic_usernames_and_passwords AuthType Basic Require valid-user Satisfy Any </Directory> This is working fine for HTTP, but failing for HTTPS. My understanding is that in order to inspect the HTTP headers, the SSL handshake must be completed, but apache wants to inspect the <Directory> directives before doing the SSL handshake, even if I place them at the bottom of the configuration file. Q: How could I workaround this issue? PS: I'm not obsessed with the HTTP referer header, I could use other options that would allow users from a known website to bypass authantication.

  • How do I redirect/rewrite to the FQDN URL without setting ServerName?

    - by ChaimKut
Often in intranets, users will direct URLs to a hostname without supplying the FQDN. Example: http://internalHost Instead of http://internalHost.example.com I would like to redirect users / rewrite URLs so that everything will use the FQDN. Here's the catch: I don't want to set ServerName explicitly. (This is for a product which will be deployed in multiple intranets so we can't know the value of ServerName ahead of time). According to: http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/CouldNotDetermineServerName Apache uses a reverse lookup to determine a default FQDN. How can I make use of/reference that FQDN that Apache is using for a mod_rewrite or redirect?

  • Rewriting URL for tomcat through an apache AJP connector.

    - by StudentKen
I've tried several attempts to resolve this, but all have come up naught. Currently I have apache setup to forward all urls at and past the /portal/ tag to tomcat. Unfortunately, tomcat receives these requests through /portal/appName, a subdirectory in webapps rather than the webapps root directory where my wars are deployed. Is there a simple solution to this that I'm not seeing? I've been trying to use mod_rewrite to ^/portal/ $ / but that doesn't yield the expected results (perhaps I'm doing this wrong?).

  • apxs cannot install mod_cloudflare on centos

    - by Adam
[ Linux - CentOS - Apache 2.2 - mod_cloudflare - apxs2 ] I have changed my nameservers to point to CloudFlare. The problem is that all the IP addresses are coming in as CloudFlare's. This is no good, because I have to monitor and block some specific traffic. mod_cloudflare is supposed to resolve this but I have been unable to get this installed. The command in the documentation uses apxs2. I can't figure out how to install this, or if it just means for 'apache 2.4'. I'm running 2.2.3, and I can use 'apxs'. When I run: apxs -aic mod_cloudflare.c I get the error apxs:Error: Command failed with rc=65536 Does this mean I need apxs2 or something else? How do I get mod_cloudflare working on my server? I appreciate any help, the documentation is vague and limited.

  • Calling Excel from PHP 5 through COM fails on Windows 7 when Apache started through Task Planner

    - by Stefan Pantke
I currently write an application, which controls Excel through COM: The app creates a COM-based Excel instance, opens some XLS files and reads their contents. Scenario I On Windows 7, I start Apache and mySQL using xmapp-control with system administrator rights. All works as expected. The PHP-based controller script interacts with Excel as expected. Scenario II A problem appears, if I start Apache and mySQL as 'background jobs'. Here is how: I created two jobs using Windows 7 Task Planner. One runs apache_start.bat, the other runs mysql_start.bat. Both tasks run as SYSTEM with elevated privileges when Windows 7 boots. Apache and mySQL work as expected. Specifically, Apache serves HTTP request from clients and PHP is able to talk to mySQL. When I call the PHP controller, which calls and interacts with Excel using COM, I do receive an error. The error seems to come from Excel [not COM itself] and reads like this: Excel can't read the XLS-file Excel failed to save the file due to an ill-name worksheet Interestingly, during the first run of the PHP-based controller script, it takes a few seconds to render the error message. Each subsequent run immediately renders the error message. Windows system logs didn't show a single problem report entry. Note, that the PHP program and the Apache instance didn't change - except the way Apache was started. At least the PHP controller script is perfectly able to read the file-system, since it provides the pathes to the XLS-file through scandir() of a certain directory. Concurrency issues can't be the cause of the problem. A single instance of the specific PHP controller interacts with Excel. Question Could someone provide details, why this happens?
