  • PHP gallery, thumbnail listing

    Hi everyone, I am planning a dynamic PHP photo gallery and having difficulty deciding on the best way to display the thumbnails after they have been retrieved via MySQL. I considered using an inline unordered list but this resulted in the thumbs being stacked one on top of the other (touching). Also tried a table but not sure how I would start the next row after x number of thumbnails. Any suggestions on page layout for this purpose? I will be using Lightbox to cycle through the photos themselves, that isn't the issue. Also, would a while() loop be best for fetching the list of thumbs and inserting the appropriate HTML?     As an answer to the question of 'How do you automatically set the focus to a textbox when a web page loads?', Espo suggests using <body onLoad="document.getElementById('<id>').focus();"> Ben Scheirman replies (without further explanation): Any javascript book will tell you not to put handlers on the body element like that Why would this be considered bad practice? In Espos answer, an 'override' problem is illustrated. Is this the only reason, or are there any other problems? Compatibility issues?

Here's a simplification of the dataset I'm using: [,x] [,y] [,z] 7 2 a 10 2 b 112 3 c boxdata<-boxplot(x ~ y) To put values as label on outliers by group, I use this function: for(i in 1:length(boxdata$group)){ text(boxdata$group[i], boxdata$out[i], which(x==boxdata$out[i]),labels=boxdata$out[i],pos=4) } The problem is that I want to put z (string) as label instead of outlier value, but I don't know how to proceed.   • Looking for actively maintained matrix math library for php

    Does anyone know where I might find a PHP matrix math library which is still actively maintained? I need to be able to do the basic matrix operations like reduce, transpose (including non-square matrices), invert, determinant, etc. This question was asked in the past, then closed with no answers. Now I need an answer to the same question.   • How can I accept a hash mark in a URL via $_GET?

    From what I have been able to understand, hash marks (#) aren't sent to the server, so it doesn't seem likely that I will be able to use raw PHP to parse data like in the URL below: index.php?name=Ben&address=101 S 10th St Suite #301 I'm looking to pre-populate form fields with this $_GET data. How would I do this with Javascript (or jQuery), and is there a fallback that wouldn't break my form for people not using Javascript? Currently if there is a hash (usually in the address field), everything after that is not parsed in or stored in $_GET.

  • Problem with a SQL statement

    I'm trying to enter values into a database table using a form and a PHP function. The PHP seems to be fine as the SQL statement it creates looks okay, but the database always throws up an error. This is the SQL statement that my code has generated (with arbitrary values): INSERT INTO Iteminfo ('itemName', 'itemSeller', 'itemCategory', 'itemDescription', 'itemPrice', 'itemPostage', 'itemBegin', 'itemEnd', 'buynow', 'itemPicture') values ('gorillaz album', 'ben', 'music', 'new one ', '5.00', '1.00', '2010-03-15 14:59:51', '2010-03-16 14:59:51', '0', 'http://www.thefader.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/gorillaz-plastic-beach.jpg') This throws up an error both when I use the PHP function to evaluate the query and also when I use phpMyAdmin to enter the query manually. However, I can't see anything wrong with it. Can anyone shed some light on this? All of the fields are VARCHAR values, except for itemPrice and itemPostage (which are stored as DECIMAL(4,2)) and the itemBegin and itemEnd, which are stored as DATETIMEs.

    I have a small chunk of coding I need to take from ereg to preg_match. Here is the code. function be_file_list($d, $x) { foreach (array_diff(scandir($d), array('.', '..')) as $f) { if (is_file($d . '/' . $f) && (($x) ? ereg($x.'$',$f) : 1)) { $l[] = $f; } } return $l; } This code works as expected even if it doesn't look too pretty (source: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.scandir.php) but as ereg is deprecated, I would really like to make it preg_match, or something like that. I have been messing with this all afternoon and the PC is about to go out the window. I would have thought that preg_match("/"$x.'$',$f"/") would have worked but no dice. Any help would be great.   • Projection matrix + world plane ~> Homography from image plane to world plane

    I think I have my wires crossed on this, it should be quite easy. I have a projection matrix from world coordinates to image coordinates (4D homogeneous to 3D homgeneous), and therefore I also have the inverse projection matrix from image coordinates to world "rays". I want to project points of the image back onto a plane within the world (which is given of course as 4D homogeneous vector). The needed homography should be uniquely identified, yet I can not figure out how to compute it. Of course I could also intersect the back-projected rays with the world plane, but this seems not a good way, knowing that there MUST be a homography doing this for me. Thanks in advance, Ben

    Hi - I'm a tester, with some Java and plenty of bash coding experience. My team is building an automated functional test harness using JUnit 4 and ant. Testers write automated tests in Java and use JavaDoc to document these tests. We're using ant's JunitReport task to generate our test result reports. This works superbly for reporting. What we're missing, however, is a way to combine those JavaDoc free-text descriptions of what the test does along with the JunitReport results. My question is, what's involved to get the JavaDoc into the JunitReport output? I'd like to be able to inject the JavaDoc for a given test method into the JunitReport at the level of each method result. regards Ben

  • Javascript: replacing newlines with <br/> working in FF and SAFARI and not working in IE

    I was thinking that replacing \n with with javascript was quite a simple task, but it seems not to be so. Posts in Ask Ben or StackOverflow suggest that something as simple as: dst= dst.replace (/\n/g, "<br/>"); $("div.descr").html(dst); will get the job done. Indeed, this work in FF and Safari but not in IE. Text has been created in a textarea and then stored in a database, then retrieved without further processing. It works using FF on windows and Safari on Mac. IE on windows, nada. Is it a major bug in my head? Is it a JQuery issue? Have some idea about how to solve this? And possible reason for? Many thanks

  • NSFetchedResultsController not processing certain section driven moves

    I utilize a NSFetchedResultsController (frc) with a Core Data store. I implement all the frc delegate methods. The table is sporadically updated by background threads. All the inserts, deletes and updates work fine, with the exception that updates to the frc's index key for rows toward to the bottom of the table (50 rows), do not result in a section move. e.g. if "name" is the index key and the name "Victor" is changed to "Alex", the victor row now shows the name Alex, but is not moved to the top of the table alongside all other names starting with A. As I noted, this is only for rows towards the bottom of the table. If a row like "Andy" is changed to "Ben", the move is indeed processed correctly by the frc. Any suggestions to fix this would be appreciated. I do not use a frc cache. Thanks

  • Test Jboss JMS externally - outside of the application server

    Hi All, I'm pretty new to the JMS functionality. I need to test a remote JMS which is on Jboss 4.2.1. I want to develop an external test (e.g from a main class) which sends and receives messages to/from the app. server. (I do have full access to the remote server.) My questions are: 1) How do I send messages to the Jboss JMS? 2) Where is the information needed to send a message located on the Jboss? ip, port, queue, user, pw, ect. to set up the local messaging test. 3) Is there a way to config/ develop a mechanism on the remote JMS Jboss server that sends back acknowledgments to the sender (in this case)?     Hi all, I'm creating a page that loads content from other pages using jQuery like this: $('#newPage').load('example.html' + ' #pageContent', function() { loadComplete(); }); That all works fine. Now what I want to do is change the background image of the current page to the background image of the page I'm loading from. This is what I'm doing now but I can't for the life of me get it to work: $.get('example.html', function(data) { var pageHTML = $(data); var pageBody = pageHTML.$('body'); alert(pageBody.attr("background")); }); What am I doing wrong??   • ASP, My SQL & case sensitity suddenly broken

    Hi There, We have an old ASPsite that has been working fine for years with a MY SQL database. All of a sudden last week lots fo SQL queries stopped working. The database has a table called 'members' but the code calls 'Members'. It appears the queries used to work regardless of case sensitivity on the table names, but something has changed recently somewhere to enforce case. This has me stumped as the site has not been touched in years, the server config hasn't changed & the database provide has not changed anything. Is there any simple way to ignore case for an ASP site (without editing lots fo files :) Thanks Ben

  • How to make a page print to printer just once

    I have a basic html page generated through php and it prints to a printer after a link click using Ben Nadel's print plugin. However, I don't want the user to print the page again. I tried setting the 'print' link to a negative z-index using jquery after it's being clicked, but the user can refresh the page and reuse the link so it would print again. I also know that I can somehow disable the refresh feature, by modifying what F5 does, but that would't save the day since the user can refresh the page through the url bar, and I can't remove/hide, it as much as I know. It also runs on localhost so the user client and server are on the same side. Even the browser doesn't matter since I could use the one that fits this case.

Sadly, the Technology Gods were not smiling on me that day. The audio set-up that I tested successfully before the call failed to deliver when we first connected – I could hear the folks in Vegas, but they couldn’t hear me. A frantic, last-minute adjustment appeared to have fixed that problem, and the audio in my headphones from both sides of the conversation was loud and clear.  It wasn’t until I listened to the playback that I realized that something was wrong. So the audio for Vegas side of the discussion has about the same fidelity as a cell phone. It’s listenable, but disappointing when compared to what it sounded like during the discussion. Still, this was a one shot deal, and the roster of panelists and the resulting conversation was too good and too much fun to scrap just because of an unfortunate technical glitch.   Part 2 of this Collaborate 10 Wrap-Up will run next week. After that, it’s back on track with the previously scheduled program. The VFOs are brief recordings that summarize some of our most popular capabilities. These recordings are great tools for learning about new features, or helping others to visualize the value they can bring to your organization.   • Android Studio Could not call IncrementalTask.taskAction() on task ':project:dexDebug'

    I recently decided to switch from Eclipse to Android Studio. I imported a project I was working on and am now getting this error when I try to run the project. Gradle: Execution failed for task ':project:dexDebug'. > Could not call IncrementalTask.taskAction() on task ':project:dexDebug' I've been cruising this site for 2 days now and trying different suggestions to no avail.     I am getting a bit confused with this and need a little help please. I am developing a ASP.Net MVC 3 Web application using Entity Framework 4.1. I have a DropDownList on one of my Razor Views, and I wish to display a list of Full Names, for example Tom Jones Michael Jackson James Brown In my Controller I retrieve a List of User Objects, then select the FirstName and LastName of each User, and pass the data to a SelectList. List<User> Requesters = _userService.GetAllUsersByTypeIDOrgID(46, user.organisationID.Value).ToList(); var RequesterNames = from r in Requesters let person = new { UserID = r.userID, FullName = new { r.firstName, r.lastName } } orderby person.FullName ascending select person; viewModel.RequestersList = new SelectList(RequesterNames, "UserID", "FullName"); return View(viewModel); In my Razor View I have the following @Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.requesterID, Model.RequestersList, "Select", new { @class = "inpt_a"}) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.requesterID) However, when I run the code I get the following error At least one object must implement IComparable. I feel as if I am going about this the wrong way, so could someone please help with this? Thanks.

  • Python and csv help

    I'm trying to create this script that will check the computer host name then search a master list for the value to return a corresponding value in the csv file. Then open another file and do a find an replace. I know this should be easy but haven't done so much in python before. Here is what I have so far... masterlist.txt (tab delimited) Name UID Bob-Smith.local bobs Carmen-Jackson.local carmenj David-Kathman.local davidk Jenn-Roberts.local jennr Here is the script that I have created thus far #GET CLIENT HOST NAME import socket host = socket.gethostname() print host #IMPORT MASTER DATA import csv, sys filename = "masterlist.txt" reader = csv.reader(open(filename, "rU")) #PRINT MASTER DATA for row in reader: print row #SEARCH ON HOSTNAME AND RETURN UID #REPLACE VALUE IN FILE WITH UID #import fileinput #for line in fileinput.FileInput("filetoreplace",inplace=1): # line = line.replace("replacethistext","UID") # print line Right now, it's just set to print the master list. I'm not sure if the list needs to be parsed and placed into a dictionary or what.   • In Java it seems Public constructors are always a bad coding practice

    This maybe a controversial question and may not be suited for this forum (so I will not be insulted if you choose to close this question). It seems given the current capabilities of Java there is no reason to make constructors public ... ever. Friendly, private, protected are OK but public no. It seems that its almost always a better idea to provide a public static method for creating objects. Every Java Bean serialization technology (JAXB, Jackson, Spring etc...) can call a protected or private no-arg constructor. My questions are: I have never seen this practice decreed or written down anywhere? Maybe Bloch mentions it but I don't own is book. Is there a use case other than perhaps not being super DRY that I missed? EDIT: I explain why static methods are better. .1. For one you get better type inference. For example See Guava's http://code.google.com/p/guava-libraries/wiki/CollectionUtilitiesExplained .2. As a designer of the class you can later change what is returned with a static method. .3. Dealing with constructor inheritance is painful especially if you have to pre-calculate something.

  • Call .NET Webservice with Android

    Hi, I know this question has been asked here before, but I don't think those answers were adequate for my needs. We have a SOAP webservice that is used for an iPhone application, but it is possible that we need an Android specific version or a proxy of the service, so we have the option to go with either SOAP or JSON. I have a few concerns about both methods: SOAP solution: Is it possible to generate java source code from a WSDL file, if so, will it include some kind of proxy class to invoke the webservice and will it work in the Android environment at all? Google has not provided any SOAP library in Android, so i need to use 3rd party, any suggestion? What about the performance/overhead with parsing and transmitting SOAP xml over the wire versus the JSON solution? JSON solution: There is a few classes in the Android sdk that will let me parse JSON, but does it support generic parsing, like if I want the result to be parsed as a complex type? Or would I need to implement that myself? I have read about 2 libraries before here on Stackoverflow, GSON an Jackson. What is the difference performance and usability (from a developers perspective) wise? Do you guys have any experince with either of those libraries? So i guess the big question is, what method to go with? I hope you can help me out. Thanks in advance :-)
