  • Is there alternative way to sell android app?

    I am a developer of android apps from Macedonia. So my country is not on the list of countries that one can sell paid app from (on the Android Market). I have a few apps ready for several months now and I am really struggling to find a way, alternative to sell my apps and have it licensed. I know that there are several markets that sell android app, but I want my apps to be licensed as well, and that is very important to me. I know that there are many countries that are not on that list, so if there are developers that had similar experience and solved their problems, please share your experience with me. I am eager to know if there is something I can do? Thank u for your answers in advance.

  • Set default reminder pattern to iCal Calendar/Group

    Hi all I have in iCal some Calendars/Groups named Birthday, Exams and Holidays. Now I am wondering if I can assign a default reminder pattern to all Exams events, for example: 2 Weeks before, 1 Week before, 2 Days before. The result should be that I don't have to specify each time the reminder pattern of an event in Exams when I create a New one. NOTE: If iCal can't do this, is it maybe possible do that through an automator action etc.?

  • Overlapping appointments in Outlook 2003

    I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2003 (Home and Student, if that makes any difference, which I doubt) as my calendar, and I have one minor gripe: it can't really handle appointments that don't begin and end right on the half-hour mark. For instance, if I have a class that ends at 9:22 AM and another class that begins at 9:27 AM, they will appear to overlap in the day view. Not a big deal, but it bugs me nonetheless. Anybody know of a hack or patch that will fix this issue? I've searched the Outlook documentation as well as Google to no avail.

  • Is there a best practice / standard approach to a free trial for a web app

    I have an idea for a web app, and would be interested in implementing it, and offering a free trial of say 5 uses before asking people to sign up. I can think of numerous ways of doing this (using cookies , logging IP adresses off the top of my head, limiting functionality). Is there a standard approach to this? Are there best practices? Are there any good tutorials on this? (I would prefer not to go the liited functionality route, as it will not show what the app is capable of).

    A few months back, I was doing some recreational reading at the iOS Dev Center, and I came across a small list of guidelines for free vs. paid apps. It included guidance along these lines: How not to promote a paid version within a free version Not displaying "placeholder" buttons in a free version that "work" in a paid version I can't remember much more than that, and I cannot find it anymore on the iOS Dev Center. It's possible I imagined it entirely, but I doubt it - does anyone have a link to this information, or have a set of guidelines for free vs. paid apps in the App Store?

  • No app icons in menus

    I have enabled icons in menus, and most of them show up well (folder icons, file icons, save icons, etc.). But whenever an app tries to use an icon specific to itself, such as GIMP, it replaces that icon with the app icon, so that when I look at a menu in GIMP, I see most of the time just icons of GIMP's logo (that seems to be the only problem; the text is fine). I thought this was proper to GIMP, but I also noticed it happening on AbiWord. Thankfully, as I said, it's not for all icons. But it still bugs me. Why is it so? Here is a screenshot of a menu in GIMP: I am using Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, with Unity desktop (the problem also occurs on the Classic desktop, if I remember correctly). EDIT: This does NOT occur on the Classic desktop; only in Unity.

    I work at a relatively small company, around 30 people and we are now looking into a solution that can handle: File sharing. Email server. Calendar support. Around 30 users. Accessible from external network. Support for Windows XP (and above), Mac OS 10.6.3 and Ubuntu clients. When it comes down to security we don't have the experience to comment on that. I guess the de facto standard is good enough for us. Sorry if this is formulated as a n00b question, because it is. =) Any kind of pointer in the right direction will be appreciated.   • Recurring events repeatedly saves a draft every minute

    Using Outlook 2010, some of my recurring (planned, not drafts) events is saving a draft to my Drafts folder every single minute as long as it's active. An example taken from real life is that I have a calendar entry (Appointment) occuring every day from 24-09-2012 until 28-09-2012 from 08:00 to 16:00 (GMT+1) with a blue category, only one participant (me) with subject but without a place. So every minute from 24-09-2012 until 28-09-2012 from 08:00 to 16:00, but not from 16:00 to 08:00, a new draft is automatically saved in my Drafts folder. How do I get rid of that behaviour? Addition here: Removing the offending event just allows a new one to take its place. There doesn't seem to be much on the sites - Microsoft calls it a "personal" issue, but there are more and more instances.

  • Configure Iptables to allow a PHP-app accessing a port-nr

    I have a php-application which connects to another app called Solr (database search engine). I can via this php app add/remove documents (records) from the Solr index. However, the Solr security is low, and anybody with the right port nr can access Solr and remove documents (records). I wonder, is it possible to ONLY allow my own php-app to have access to Solr somehow? Prefferably via Iptables. I am thinking I can only allow my own servers IP to that port, and it would solve my problem, because PHP is a server-side code. But I am not sure. About the Php-app: The website is a classifieds website, and when users wants to add or remove classifieds, they do so through a php app, which is this one. The app has a function which connects to solr and updates the database (index). I appreciate detailed answers... Thanks

Who pays best? Any regulations? Any problems with getting the app approved by Microsoft Market? If you chose Admob: Which plugin do you suggest? This or that or another one? Any experiences in Europe or Germany? (MS pubCenter is US only so far) Edit: I think we discussed enough about acceptance of mobile advertisement. Let's focus now on the questions I asked. I signed up for AWS and while signing up for the free tier of S3, i found this As part of AWS Free Usage Tier, you can get started with Amazon S3 for free. Upon sign-up, new AWS customers receive 5 GB of Amazon S3 storage, 20,000 Get Requests, 2,000 Put Requests, 15GB of bandwidth in and 15GB of bandwidth out each month for one year. source:aws.amazon.com , emphasis mine. 20,000 GET requests & 2000 puts mean , 20,000 page views(max) and 2000 file uploads per month. Isn't that lower than what App Engine offers 43,200,000 requests per day.Am I missing some thing, please help.

  • Cloud service and IM protocol advice, for a backend to group chat mobile app

    Overview I’m going to develop an app on Android and iOS. It will allow users to set up group ‘chat rooms’ and talk on chat rooms set up by other users. The service needs to be highly scalable, such that it could accommodate a massive increase in users overnight (we can only dream). Chat requirements The chat protocol used should be flexible: it should allow me to determine who can view/post on ‘chat rooms’ based on certain other factors, as determined by the first poster/creator of the particular ‘chat room’. It should also allow for users to simply install the app and begin using the service, after only providing a simple nickname (which could be changed later). Chat protocol plans Having looked around I think the XMPP protocol is the best candidate. In particular the Multi-user chat extension looks like what I’ll need. Would this be most suited to my requirements, or do you know another potential solution? Cloud service I have been deciding between Amazon Web Services, Google App Engine and Windows Azure. I’m coming to the conclusion that Azure will be best, as it is easier to manage than AWS (ease of scalability will be a key factor in the design), I think it may be less restricted than GAE, plus Azure will soon have toolkits to allow easy interfacing with both Android and iOS phones. Is this the decision you would have made, or would you recommend/look into other cloud services? General project philosophy I have only recently started looking into this project’s feasibility, and am no expert on any of its aspects. So wherever possible I will leave the actual implementations to experts, i.e. choosing a higher-level cloud service, using a well-documented plugin of a, proven reliable, group chat protocol etc. My background I have some programming knowledge from a computer science degree. Main languages I’ve used have been Java and Python, but I don’t want this to affect design decisions for the project. The most appropriate languages for the task should be used, i.e. I don’t mind learning a lot of new skills (my current programming levels are relatively basic anyway).   • Microsoft Outlook: show multi-day appointments as boxes in calendar day and week view

    I would like to show appointments spanning several days the same way as appintments within a single day. Single day appointments are shown with a white or colored box, covering the day horizontally. Multi-day appointments are shown in the day/week header and are indicated blue or purple on the left side of a day. This happens even if a multi-day appointment is not an all-day appointment (i.e. checkbox is off) and I have a start and end time. I frequently have a hard time seeing appointment overlaps wenn acceping single day appointments. Therefore I am looking for multi-day appointments shown the same way as single day appointments. I am on Outlook 2003.
