• Is Sql Server 2008 R2 unsupported by Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007 R2?

  Hey all, I'm performing a test configuration of System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, on a system prepared with Sql Server 2008 R2. Unfortunately, the Scom 2007 R2 prerequisites verification program seems to be detecting exact versions of Sql Server, and not simply a minimum version, like it claims: "System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 requires SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition with SP1 and above or SQL Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise edition with SP1 and above. Note: Operations Manager 2007 R2 does not support a 32-bit Operations Manager Operations database, Reporting Server data warehouse or Audit Collection database on a 64-bit operating system." I had hoped that this was just a helper tool that was assisting in getting me off the ground, but unfortunately it seems as if it's actually used as a gate for the installation to proceed. Has anyone encountered this? If so, is there a way to fool the installer into thinking that it has a proper version, or otherwise alert it to my valid configuration?

• Unable to extend desktop

  I'm trying to hook up my TV to my computer as a gaming/multimedia center but I'm having troubles setting it up. I have a custom built machine running Windows 7 RC. It has an ATI Radeon 4800 video card with 2 dvi output and 1 S-video output. I have an s-video to composite adapter that connects to my tv. (It's an old TV with only Cable, composite, and s-video connections). I can switch the desktop to my TV without a problem, but I can't duplicate or extend my desktop onto it. I've installed the latest drivers and Catalyst Control Center, but it won't let it work any more readily than Windows would. Any suggestions? Would using an s-video cable instead of the adapter change anything? (The only reason I use the adapter is because it came with the graphics card) (Edit) I installed the latest drivers and I can now duplicate the screen (show on one monitor and on the TV), but I still can't extend the desktop.

• How can I disable Ctrl+Shift+Arrow from causing my screen to flip?

  Windows 7 Home Premium, Catalyst Control Center. Without any apparent reason, after booting my PC, I got this little balloon "HD 4600 Drivers updated". I did not install any new cards or drivers or anything. But now, when I try to select an entire word by pressing Ctrl + Shift + ? / ? my screen flips left to right and upside down. Where can I disable this annoying shortcut? OR Any other way of selecting the entire word? There is no option for this in Catalyst Control Center.

• Can not RDP to Win 2003 box or initiate remote restart

  I've got a Windows 2003 server that's at my remote data center. This morning I tried to connect to it via RDP, but the connection fails with the following error: This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator. I have also trying issuing a remote shutdown/restart command using the "shutdown -i" command from my local system. No error is reported, however the system does not reboot. This server runs SQL Server 2005 and it is still fully operational and responsive to queries. I can also remotely connect to the services control panel of the remote system. Is there anything that I can try to regain control of the system, short of having an operator in the data center do a hard reboot on the server for me?

• Debian Squeeze: Trackpad on EEE PC 1000HA acts like slate

  I'm using Debian on an Asus Eee PC 1000HA. It works flawlessly, except that the built-in trackpad acts as if it was a slate. That is, if I touch the upper-left quadrant of the trackpad, the mouse pointer "teleports" to the upper left of the netbook's screen. If I touch the bottom center, the pointer teleports to the bottom center of the screen. I currently have no xorg.conf. I have tried various settings for the mouse in xorg.confs that I created, and none of them did more than disable the trackpad entirely. The trackpad works perfectly in Windows XP (shipped with the Eee) and in Ubuntu. Debian works fine with the (USB) mouse. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  Thus far we've been using the combination of Forefront TMG 2010 as an edge firewall + intrusion prevention system + web site publishing mechanism in the data center to work with a few web server machines. Since we develop on ASP.NET, we are IIS and in general - Microsoft crowd. Since TMG is being deprecated, we need to come up with a hardware alternative to protect and serve our data center web cloud. Could you please advise a hardware or virtual appliance solution that can provide routing, flood prevention and smart web-site publishing (one IP - many web sites based on domain name filter) all in one. Even if it is hard to configure, as long as it covers all these features, we will invest to learn and replace TMG eventually.

• Identifying the version of ATI Catalyst drivers

  I have bought a new video card based on the ATI Radeon HD 5670 chipset. I couldn't make it work with the latest ATI Catalyst drivers found on their website, only the drivers found on the CD delivered with the card worked. How can I know the version of Catalyst that is installed on my PC (running Windows 7 64-bits)? The ATI Catalyst Control Center returns the following information: Driver Packaging Version 8.673-091110a-092263C Provider ATI Technologies Inc. 2D Driver Version 8.01.01.973 2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000 Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0708 OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9120 Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.1110.2225.40230 I do not recognize anything pointing to a "marketing version". • Is it safe to use consumer MLC SSDs in a server?

  We (and by we I mean Jeff) are looking into the possibility of using Consumer MLC SSD disks in our backup data center. We want to try to keep costs down and usable space up - so the Intel X25-E's are pretty much out at about 700$ each and 64GB of capacity. What we are thinking of doing is to buy some of the lower end SSD's that offer more capacity at a lower price point. My boss doesn't think spending about 5k for disks in servers running out of the backup data center is worth the investment. Just how dangerous of an approach is this and what can be done to mitigate these dangers?

• Best way to reformat/recover in Windows when your CD key is no longer valid?

  I have a copy of Windows 7 Professional that I have downloaded from the MSDN e-academy (thanks to my school). Now, the problem is that these license keys are one-use only. If I need to reformat or do a factory reset, what is the best way for me to do so, without invalidating my license and screwing me out of an operating system? Edit: I would also like to know some information on the "restore to factory settings" option in Windows 7 recovery center. Does it do exactly as the name implies and starts you off as if you had just done a fresh install? If I had some kind of nasty trojan or virus, would it be able to survive through the factory reset? The recovery center also has an option for reformatting, though I don't think that it's an actual format - it just backs up your stuff into a Windows.old folder or something like that. Does that require a valid license key?

  I am seeking for a way to number each equation based on the chapter numbers. The number should be placed at the right side of the equation and the equation should be center-aligned. Something like this: (The bounding box around 2.3 is not necessary). I found this article that do this in a tricky way. Sadly it has some problems when I use multilevel numbering for Headings. To conclude, I am looking for a way to numbers equations that: The numbering is formatted as N-M that N is chapter number and M is equation number. equation is placed in center-aligned number is placed in the right side of equation There should be a way to cross-reference each numbered equation. • VMware virtual network adapters and Windows Firewall

  I am running VMware Workstation 7.1.4 on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1-U (x64). Aside from the physical network adapter, I have created a single virtual network adapter (VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet1) which is connected to (can be seen by) the host and the guests. My problem is, even after applying the "*NdisDeviceType = 1" tweak to the virtual adapter, making it disappear from the Network and Sharing Center, I still can't connect to programs running in the host from the guests, unless I specifically "allowed the program to communicate with the public network" using the Windows Firewall (which I don't want to do). This happens to all the programs and services running in the host (File and Printer Sharing, Database server, HTTP proxy, etc.) I am getting the impression that applying the "*NdisDeviceType = 1" tweak only hides a network from the Network and Sharing Center but not actually making it private. Any hints and suggestions?

• Can not get sound over hdmi in kubuntu 9.10

  I have used a hdmi cable to connect my lcd (which is connected with my speakers) with my nvida 275 gtx grafic card. I can not get the sound output to work. The hardware itself is working probably - I tested it under windows. Currently I am running Kubuntu 9.10 64 with Nvidia 190.53. The sound output worked fine before I installed the hdmi connection. • ATI driver in Fedora linux 11

  I recently built a pc with an ATI Radeon HD 5750. I have installed Fedora 11 and installed the device driver for the Radeon 5700 series proprietary drivers. I wanted to see if there is graphics hardware acceleration. I typed in glxinfo at the terminal and I got: X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) Major opcode of failed request: 135 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString) Serial number of failed request: 14 Current serial number in output stream: 14 I don't know how to fix this. I tried to go to the ATI Catalyst Control Center; that worked, but the ATI Catalyst Control Center (Administrator) doesn't work. If anyone knows how to fix this problem then please let me know.   My computer is running an AMD Phenom II quad core CPU but it didn't come with the piece of software that I see people have in a lot of youtube videos. The software is kind of like the ATI catalyst control center but for the AMD processor instead. It shows things like current core temperature, clock speed, etc and I am not sure but maybe it also allows the user to make changes to those things from the control center as well. I am having a hard time finding the download for this online, especially since I don't even have the name for it.

• Why is file sharing over internet still working, despite all firewall exceptions for filesharing being disabled?

  Every exception in my windows server firewall that starts with "File and Printer Sharing" is disabled (ordered by name, so that includes domain, public (active), and private profiles). The Network and Sharing Center's options for everything except password protected sharing are off. Why would I still be able to access a network share on that server via an address like "\\my.server.com\" over the internet? The firewall is on for all profiles and blocking incoming connections by default. A "netstat -an" command on the server reveals the share connection is occurring over port 445 (SMB). I restarted the client to ensure it was actually re-establishing a new connection successfully. Is the "Password protected sharing: On" option in Network and Sharing Center bypassing the firewall restrictions, or adding some other exception somewhere that I'm missing? EDIT: "Custom" rules are not the problem. It's the "built-in" rules for Terminal Services that was the problem. Can you believe port 445 (File Sharing Port) has to be wide open to the internet to use Terminal Services Licensing?)

• Why am I unable to access the network shares on my own computer?

  I am having some problems with media center computer, with Windows 7 on it. The computers IP address is 192.168.1.13, and another computer can without any problem navigate to \\192.168.1.13, but the computer itself can not. Neither \\servername nor \\localhost. If I reboot the computer a couple of times, it will work again, but this is a big problem as my computer cleans my media center library on boot and there, if it can not access \\192.168.1.13, it will think that all the files have been removed and therefore delete them from the database. I really have no idea on where to start with this problem, but if anyone has tried this before and fixed it, I would be very happy, as it would save me from having to reinstall the whole system.

• Proxy between data centers [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Can IIS be configure to forward request to another web server? We are switching data centers (actually datac-center to EC2 to be specific) and some customers have not yet made DNS changes to point the domains to the new load balancers. We are thinking of leaving the existing servers up and just using a proxy server to forward the request to the new load balancer. Can anyone recommend a good proxy server for doing this I've got squid installed but it seems it's fairly easy to just have a fairly wide open proxy server and we don't want this. I want all requests coming in on port 80 to be sent to port 80 at a specific domain (elastic load balancer) the data center env is windows 2k3 and the EC2 env will all be linux but the ec2 env should be irrelevant

I was trying to change the wallpaper, and found this application: John's Background Switcher which said that I can make slide show of themes, I guess it's as you set wallpaper with window 7 ultimate. The default wallpaper was still fine until downloading that application. After trying it, error occurred, I couldnt change the background, so I closed it, but then the default wallpaper changed its size, the central image dropped out of screen, can see aaprt of it on `bottom right hand corner. I tried to adjust the image into center, but it didnt work when i right click on desktop - Graphic option - panel fit - "center image". Anybody can help me? how to adjust it back to normal as original?

  Asking on behalf of someone: I want to buy a new graphics card but do not know which would be best in terms of output, DVI or HDMI, the sound part of the HDMI is not really required, I just need something to go to my new 32 inch hd tv.   By default, JDBC data type’s objects are wrapped with a WebLogic wrapper. This allows for features like debugging output and track connection usage to be done by the server. The wrapping can be turned off by setting this value to false. This improves performance, in some cases significantly, and allows for the application to use the native driver objects directly. Tip: How to Disable Wrapping in WLS Administration Console You can use the Administration Console to disable data type wrapping for following JDBC data sources in bifoundation_domain domain: Data Source Name bip_datasource mds-owsm EPMSystemRegistry   To disable wrapping for each JDBC data source (as stated in above table): 1.     If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit. 2.     In the Domain Structure tree, expand Services, then select Data Sources. 3.     On the Summary of Data Sources page, click the data source name for example “mds-owsm”. 4.     Select the Configuration: Connection Pool tab. 5.     Scroll down and click Advanced to show the advanced connection pool options. 6.     In Wrap Data Types, deselect the checkbox to disable wrapping. 7.     Click Save. 8.     To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes. Important Note: This change does not take effect immediately—it requires the server be restarted.
