• Convert French to ASCII (French speakers are wanted)

  i need to convert French text to most correct analog in ASCII. Let me explain. In German you should convert ä to ae, this is not simple removing of diacritics, it is finding most correct analogue. Please help me with French. I found that there is no programmatic way to do it, i create Dictionary<char, string>. To convert (+ capitals): é, à, è, ù, â, ê, î, ô, û, ë, ï, ü, ÿ, ç. and any other you suggest! Please write suggested substitution in ascii. Thanks, Andrey.

• ASP.NET MVC Route Contraints with {ID}-{Slug} Format

  I have a route like following, ideally I would like it to match: domain.com/layout/1-slug-is-the-name-of-the-page routes.MapRoute( "Layout", // Route name "layout/{id}-{slug}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = @"\d+$" } ); But when I hit the url, I am keep on getting this exception: The parameters dictionary contains a null entry for parameter 'id' of non-nullable type 'System.Int32' for method 'System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult Index(Int32)' in .... The above route will match the following though: domain.com/layout/1-slug or domain.com/layout/1-slug_permalink Seems like the hyphen that separates the ID from the Slug is causing issues.

• Problem with stackless python, cannot write to a dict

  I have simple map-reduce type algorithm, which I want to implement in python and make use of multiple cores. I read somewhere that threads using native thread module in 2.6 dont make use of multiple cores. is that true?   I have a plist file. I want to delete the data from the plist. How can I do it programmatically ? My Plist have an array cells. cells is filled by dictionaries . Each dictionary is filled by string. I used the following way. For some reason, everything is working in the simulator, but on a device, the [recorder record] method is returning NO. The only theory I have is that something in the recordSettings isn't compatible with an actual device. Any ideas?

• Error details in embedded IronPython

  Hi, I'm executing IronPython in my application. A script produces an UnboundNameException with the message "name 'source' is not defined". Because the script is correct in my opinion I would need more error information, but I'm not able to get them from the exception. The exception itself seems not to contain any information about line number of the source of the exception or something like this. I searched on Google, but all available information seems to be outdated. The Data dictionary of my exception is empty which means that Data["PythonExceptionInfo"] does not exist. The file version of my IronPython assembly is 2.0.20209.0 Any hint how to get more error details? cheers, Achim

  I have a method and I want different users to pass me xml files. These files will have different names for the elements I am looking for and the elements I am looking for maybe at different structures. My first impression was that we should just tell them to pass in the xml in a standard format. However this is how they have their data and they insist that it is much easier if they don't have to convert it. What can I do to take in data of all types?   Hi, I've been using PGU(Phil's Pygame Utilities) for a while. It has a dictionary called tdata, which is passed as an argument while loading tiles tdata = { tileno:(agroup, hit_handler, config)} I'm making a pacman clone in which I have 2 groups : player and ghost, for which I want to collision detection with the same type of tile. For example, if the tile no is 2, I want this tile to have agroups as both player and ghost. I tried doing the following: tdata = {0x02 :('player', tile_hit_1, config), 0x02 : ('ghost', tile_hit_2, config)} However, on doing this, it only gives collision detection for ghost, not the player. Any ideas on how I can do collision detection for both the player and the ghost with the same type of tile?

• Issue Passing NSMutableDictionary to Method

  Hello all, I'm trying some basic iPhone programming -- all has been going well but recently I've hit a bit of a roadblock. I've got a chunk of code that's passing an NSMutableDictionary (amongst other things) to a method in another class: [self.shuttle makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:@"login" module:@"login" query:credentials]; The NSMutableArray credentials is previously defined a bit above as such: NSMutableDictionary *credentials = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [credentials setObject:username forKey:@"username"]; [credentials setObject:password forKey:@"password"]; The method that receives it looks like such: -(id)makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:(NSString *)mode module:(NSString *)module query:(NSMutableDictionary *)query From debugging I have determined that the code works fine up until this point within the above method: [query setObject:self.sessionID forKey:@"session_id"]; At this point, the application terminates -- the Console informs me of this exception: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: method sent to an uninitialized mutable dictionary object' This leads me to believe that I must initialize NSMutableDictionary in some way in my new method before I can access it, but I have no idea how. Any advice?

  I am trying to implement a naive bayseian approach to find the topic of a given document or stream of words. Is there are Naive Bayesian approach that i might be able to look up for this ? Also, i am trying to improve my dictionary as i go along. Initially, i have a bunch of words that map to a topics (hard-coded). Depending on the occurrence of the words other than the ones that are already mapped. And depending on the occurrences of these words i want to add them to the mappings, hence improving and learning about new words that map to topic. And also changing the probabilities of words. How should i go about doing this ? Is my approach the right one ? Which programming language would be best suited for the implementation ?

• Set an Interface Builder created element's state programatically

  I have a couple of UISwitch elements in a view controller that is presented modally in my iPhone app. I set up the view in IB. I want these UISwitch elements to reflect the current values in my [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] where I store the appropriate BOOLs. I thought this would do the trick setting the switches to the right state, but no: -(void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [backgroundSwitch setOn:[defaults boolForKey:kTrackInBackgroundKey] animated:NO]; [batterySaveSwitch setOn:[defaults boolForKey:kBatterySaveKey] animated:NO]; } The backgroundSwitch and batterySaveSwitch are declared as properties for the view controller class. They are not initialized; that does not seem to make a difference. I did check the values coming out of the NSUserDefaults dictionary. The method is being called at the right time.

I wanted to plot date on X axis. for plotting I need to supply xRanges to plot with some decimal values.I don't understand how can i supply NSdate values to xRange (low and length).   I'm building a simple interpreter in python and I'm having trouble handling differing numbers of arguments to my functions. My current method is to get a list of the commands/arguments as follows. args = str(raw_input('>> ')).split() com = args.pop(0) Then to execute com, I check to see if it is in my dictionary of command- code mappings and if it is I call the function I have stored there. For a command with no arguments, this would look like: commands[com]() However, if a command had multiple arguments, I would want this: commands[com](args[0],args[1]) Is there some trick where I could pass some (or all) of the elements of my arg list to the function that I'm trying to call? Or is there a better way of implementing this without having to use python's cmd class?

  Firstly, I am working on a windows xp 64 machine with 4gb ram and 2.29 ghz x4 I am indexing 220,000 lines of text that are more or less the same length. These are divided into 15 equally sized files. File 1/15 takes 1 minute to index. As the script indexes more files, it seems to take much longer with file 15/15 taking 40 minutes. My understanding is that the more I put in memory, the faster the script is. The dictionary is indexed in a hash, so fetch operations should be O(1). I am not sure where the script would be hanging the CPU. I have the script here.

  I am using json and jsonpickle sometimes to serialize objects to files, using the following function: def json_serialize(obj, filename, use_jsonpickle=True): f = open(filename, 'w') if use_jsonpickle: import jsonpickle json_obj = jsonpickle.encode(obj) f.write(json_obj) else: simplejson.dump(obj, f) f.close() The problem is that if I serialize a dictionary for example, using "json_serialize(mydict, myfilename)" then the entire serialization gets put on one line. This means that I can't grep the file for entries to be inspected by hand, like I would a CSV file. Is there a way to make it so each element of an object (e.g. each entry in a dict, or each element in a list) is placed on a separate line in the JSON output file? thanks.

• Relying on nhibernate's second level cache vs pushing objects into asp.net session

  I have some big entities which are frequently accessed in the same session. For example, in my application there is a reporting page which consist of dynamically generated chart images. For each chart image on this page, the client makes requests to corresponding controller and the controller generates images using some entities. I can either use asp.net's session dictionary for "caching" those entities or rely on nhibernate's second level cache support with using cached queries for example. What is your opinion? By the way I will use shared hosting, is nhibernate's second level cache hosting friendly? Thanks.

  We are using Antlr StringTemplates to give control over how a Entity's Name is output. The basic Stringtemplate is $FirstName$ $Initial$ $LastName$, $Suffix$, $Degree$ I want to add some smarts to that template so that the commas are only output when necessary i.e. The first comma is only output when there is a Suffix or Degree and the second commas is only output if there is a suffix. I tried the following template string bit it does not work.
