• No Wireless Networks, BCM4313 [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How to Install Broadcom Wireless Drivers (BCM43xx) 38 answers Just bought this little Asus 10 inch laptop that came with Ubuntu 12.04. Everything at my home was fine: Wireless identified and connected. As soon as I went to my girlfriend's house the trouble started. I couldn't connect to wireless (authentication... times out and asks for authentication) I started doing internet searching, tried a few solutions posted on line using terminal commands. No solutions. I decided to upgraded to 12.10-13.04 and that left me with a worse problem: I can no longer see ANY networks what so ever. Wireless card is ON, with out a doubt. Wired connection works. • Using ARIMA to model and forecast stock prices using user-friendly stats program

  Hi people, Can anyone please offer some insight into this for me? I'm coming from a functional magnetic resonance imaging research background where I analyzed a lot of time series data, and I'd like to analyze the time series of stock prices (or returns) by: 1) modeling a successful stock in a particular market sector and then cross-correlating the time series of this historically successful stock with that of other newer stocks to look for significant relationships; 2) model a stock's price time series and use forecasting (e.g., exponential smoothing) to predict future values of it. I'd like to use non-linear modeling methods (ARIMA and ARCH) to do this. Several questions: How often do ARIMA and ARCH modeling methods (given that the individual who implements them does so accurately) actually fit the stock time series data they target, and what is the optimal fit I can expect? Is the extent to which this model fits the data commensurate with the extent to which it predicts this stock time series' future values? Rather than randomly selecting stocks to compare or model, if profit is my goal, what is an efficient approach, if any, to selecting the stocks I'm going to analyze? Which stats program is the most user-friendly for this? Any thoughts on this would be great and would go a long way for me. Thanks, Brian

• I'm trying to install psycopg2 onto Mac OS 10.6.3; it claims it can't find "stdarg.h" but I can see

  I'm desperately trying to successfully install psycopg2 but keep running into errors. The latest one seems to involve it not being to find "stdarg.h" (see code below). However I can see with my own eyes that a file called stdarg.h exists at /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/include/stdarg.h (where it claims it can't find anything) so I've no idea what to do about it. I'm running Mac OS 10.6.3 and within the last few days I've made sure I have all the latest OS developer tools.   All the examples I've seen of sock.listen(5) in the python documentation suggest I should set the max backlog number to be 5. This is causing a problem for my app since I'm expecting some very high volume (many concurrent connections). I set it to 200 and haven't seen any problems on my system, but was wondering how high I can set it before it causes problems.. Anyone know?

• Scapy install issues. Nothing seems to actually be installed?

  I have an apple computer running Leopard with python 2.6. I downloaded the latest version of scapy and ran "python setup.py install". All went according to plan. Now, when I try to run it in interactive mode by just typing "scapy", it throws a bunch of errors. What gives! Just in case, here is the FULL error message.. INFO: Can't import python gnuplot wrapper . Won't be able to plot. INFO: Can't import PyX. Won't be able to use psdump() or pdfdump(). There are some references on the mono site (companies using mono), but I couldn't find a high traffic website sample other than Deki powered ones. And I've read some mailings about mod_mono stability problems because of inexistence of compacting GC. Currently i am using a integer field to store the priority, but i would like to display high/medium/low instead of letting user type in a priority. A way to approximate this is to use a Priority database which stores 3 elements, 1:high, 2:medium, 3:low, but it seems like an overkill. Any easier way would be much appreciated! Jason

  Pitch means "perceived frequency". Nice. But when I make pitch very low in OpenAL, sound plays a lot of times longer. If I make it very high, sound plays very short but with high frequency. For me, logically the consequence of making slower or faster. Or is pitch != speed?

  I'm looking at putting together a high-performance multi-threaded iPhone app that's doing a couple of fairly high-intensity operations concurrently. Is the performance difference between NSThread and POSIX threading enough to care about here? If so, I would assume POSIX threads would be more efficient because it bypasses the obj-c overhead. Is this correct?

• Keeping DB Table sorted using multi-field formula (Microsoft SQL Server)

  I have a JOB table, with two interesting columns: Creation Date Importance (high - 3, medium 2, low - 1). A JOB record's priority calculated like this: Priority = Importance * (time passed since creation) The problem is, every time I would like to pick 200 jobs with highest priority, and I don't want to resort the table. Is there a way to keep rows sorted? I was also thinking about having three tables one for High, Medium and Low and then sort those by Creation Date.
