With Trusty, the 'alternate' image has disappeared. Is it still possible to preseed a Trusty install, and if so, how do I get the d-i/ubiquity system to use my preseed file?

  I finally got Gnome Shell working on Ubuntu 12.10, but there are some weird graphical issues. It seems as if the text is corrupted or something. Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about: http://i.imgur.com/OqGyl.png It happens on a bunch of different applications, but not when I'm using Ubuntu. Does anyone know why or how to fix it? My graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6540G2, and I'm using the open source drivers (fglrx doesn't work with 12.10 yet).

• A way to store potentially infinite 2D map data?

  I have a 2D platformer that currently can handle chunks with 100 by 100 tiles, with the chunk coordinates are stored as longs, so this is the only limit of maps (maxlong*maxlong). All entity positions etc etc are chunk relevant and so there is no limit there. The problem I'm having is how to store and access these chunks without having thousands of files. Any ideas for a preferably quick & low HD cost archive format that doesn't need to open everything at once?

  gnome mplayer (gnome-mplayer) does not play video or dvd in expand or when the window is resized the video stay the same size and there is some kind of video error that is a picture of a previous frame of the video ,a small part is display and freezes undefined, unless is put back or not maximize. ..and the aspect of the video is the same 4:3 and do not change for example for 16:9 (and i think here is the error,not sure) other video displays not show this error not sure if is the rigth place do ask here

When I boot I select to boot from USB and then click on Install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, I get to the partition part, but there is no option to keep existing Windows and dual boot. • ATI card - cannot set refresh rate higher than 60 Hz

  I am trying to set refresh rate to 85 Hz or 75 Hz at 1024x768 and 1280x1024. On Windows this works, so my card and monitor have 100% support. xrandr does not work - it gives me configure crtc 1 failed I use FGLRX.   Hi, I'm a complete noob here, I recently bought an HP 3161 with an ATI 5650 hd card, when I installed 10.04 LTS everything was working fine until I was prompted to activate proprietary driver fglrx, after I did this I couldn't reboot (not even in recovery mode) until I reinstalled 10.04, what can I do? I would appreciate any help since I haven't been able to find anyone with the same problem, thanks.

  for those of you who can help me..I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 lts and i got this screen flickering at the log on screen...i googled this problem and i found out that laptops with nvidia graphics have it...but i have intel hd graphics in mine...i tried "nomodeset" and it was solved but my screen resolution changed to 1024x768 and i couldn't change it to 1366x768...so im using ubuntu 11.10 for now...what should i do?? For those who can help me..i'm a newbie at ubuntu and i know nothing..so please detail your answer.... Anyone??

  For some reason, I can't get Gnome Shell working after installing fglrx. When I select Gnome Shell in the profile, it just goes to Gnome Classic (No effects). A few other issues: GDM has turned into something that looks a lot more fancy (not sure what it is) Selecting System Default in the profile section just gives me a blank screen (not Unity) When I drag a window around I get laggy windows-esque shadows Oh and I'm on Ubuntu 12.10 with an AMD Radeon HD 6540 G2 graphics card
