• What's the difference between a wifi access point and station?

  I noticed that my (rooted) modem has some hidden modes for wifi. It has the default(and only setting without rooting) wireless access point, but it also has the settings repeater, ad-hoc, and station. What I'm really curious about is this station mode and how it differs from access point. I did a cursory search and didn't come up with any significant differences, other than that they are two distinct modes on many wireless chipsets. What is this station mode and how does it differ from access point?

• Huawei HG8245T Router - not connecting to another router

  I just got a fiber optic connection installed at home and due to the build of the house, it's mostly cement/bricks, the wireless connection isn't received throughout the house. Previously, to combat this issue, I just ran a hardwire from the modem downstairs and upstairs and had it connected to a secondary (DLink) router. It did the job of getting me seamless wireless internet access everywhere. The issue is now with the new Huawei router, this setup isn't working. I have connected everything as previously, but it seems that the other (DLink) routers are not picking up the connection. I have tried everything and am totally lost as what to do to overcome this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

• Block access to certain websites from other computers on shared internet connection

  I have very little knowledge about networking. I have an internet connection on my PC (running Windows XP). I've enabled internet connection sharing to other computers on my network connected using a WIFI router. I want to block use of GMail (in general, specific domains) from other computers, but should be able to access them from my own machine. I can't edit my hosts file because my machine too would lose access. I guess I need to configure my wireless router for that. But I have no idea how to do so. My wireless router is a Zyxel P-660HW-T1 v2. I'd appreciate any pointers.

• Can't ping other machines in my network

  I've got 3 machines on my network, all running Windows 7. None of them can ping each other, can't see each other on the network, can't see shares, can't remote desktop, can't see any homegroups. They are all on the same workgroup. They are all connected to the same wireless, WPA2 secured network. They all worked together nicely until I added a password to my wireless network. After that, and after reconnecting all the machines to the password-protected network, they can't see each other. Any ideas what could be wrong?

• Bridging a non-persistent PPP connection to wireless (or wired) in Windows XP

  I have a 3G modem-like device (eMobile's D01NX, PC card style, for any Japan nerds out there) that I use to connect my PC to the Internet. I'd like to bridge this connection with another computer either via an ad-hoc wireless network, or a simple cross-over cable (either are options). However, when I open "Network Connections", I do not see the PPP connection (otherwise I could click both and bridge). I believe this is because there is software (provided by the vendor) that is handling the card directly and registering a PPP connection dynamically. When connected, an ipconfig at the command line yields: Ethernet adapter wireless: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.5.169 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Ethernet adapter lan: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected PPP adapter {B59EEDDE-A22B-48DF-93E5-04842B641257}: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 114.xx.xxx.xx Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 114.xx.xxx.xx (I've commented out my IP address for privacy reasons, but what does appear there is a functional Internet IP address.)   hi! I am having multiple logitech devices, and each and one of them seem to have theire own receiver, occupying USB ports.. • My Router is fast when i reset it but slows down seconds later

  I have a Belkin N wireless router which until recently worked perfectly fine. Now i have to reset the router every few minutes, otherwise it slows down to a crawl. What can I do? I have tried turning the routers firewall off, but it does not make any difference. As far as I'm aware there have been no recent firmware updates. EDIT: The other devices on my network (laptop and iphone) do not have this problem. I connect to the router using a TP-Link wireless network card and I have already tried uninstalling and installing the driver. Hopefully this will narrow down the problem significantly.

• Removing all traces of GNU java and openjdk and replacing with Sun JDK

  I have installed latest Sun JDk. But when I do: java -version I still got OpenJDK version. So I completely removed OpenJDK. But now when I do: java -version I get even older GNU java 1.5 something libgcj. So I completely removed that too but it was asking to remove bunch of dependent apps like OpenOffice.org Writer etc. Even though I need the writer, I let it go because I do not want ever to see the face of any GNU java on my linux. So everything related to GNU java is removed. Luckily I am able to start Eclipse and it works fine and start normally (apparently using the installed Sun JDK which is what I want). But now when I run java -version I get bash: /usr/bin/java: No such file or directory Now what I need to do so that when I open any terminal window and enter java -version I should get Sun JDK version? Sun JDK is installed in /usr/java/jdk1.6.021. I also have symlinks: /usr/java/latest and /usr/java/defaults pointing to sun jdk.

PersistFile – When true, the uploaded file is persisted in Session state. The last property PersistFile, causes the uploaded file to be stored in Session state. That way, if completing a form requires multiple postbacks, then the user needs to upload the file only once. For example, if there is a server validation error, then the user is not required to re-upload the file after fixing the validation issue. • Flash Builder missing fundamental things

  All of a sudden Flash Builder 4 is missing all kinds of fundamental things and is generating incorrect errors. I've had the same issue yesterday, where I fixed it by downloading a new Flex SDK and importing that into FB. I did this again, but this time it fixed nothing. I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike. • asp.net ajax toolkit combobox doesn't work in hidden div

  I have a combobox inside a hidden div which I use css display = none to make it invisible, but when I make the div visible by setting display = block, the combobox just show the input and its button and ul list all have css as display = 'none', visibility ='hidden'. I can tell it is done by combobox inbuild javascript because I tried to use javascript to set the css manually with no luck. It is a bug of combobox. Urgent help needed. • Yoga Pro 2 Wi-Fi not working

  I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my new Yoga Pro 2 and the wireless is not working. It started with Windows 8 on it. The Network Manager says Wi-Fi is disabled by hardware switch. I tried putting a blacklist file in ect/modprobe.d as has been suggested in many places. I called the file "blacklist-ideapad_laptop.conf" and wrote in the file blacklist ideapad_laptop I checked to make sure that the wireless is enabled in the BIOS. It is. I ran rfkill list all and it displayed: 0: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes I ran iwlist wlan0 scan and it displayed: wlan0 Failed to read scan data : Network is down I ran sudo rmmod ideapad_laptop and it displayed: rmmod: ERROR: Module ideapad_laptop is not currently loaded. I put the file "iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode" in /lib/firmware and ran "sudo lshw -c network" again. It displayed exactly as before. Is there something else I need to do install the new firmware?

• outofmemoryerror when running jar but not when running in netbeans/ apache poi

  I basically have a program that filters records from one excel file to another excel file using the apache poi. My program runs fine when it runs using netbeans. However, upon doing a clean and build and double clicking the .jar file inside the dist folder, it runs for very long( too long!) and gives me the following error( that I got by running the program from command prompt ). Is there any work around for it? I have already increase the heap size to be -Xms1500m inside netbeans before cleaning and building.   Hi, I've decided to implement my own interface for connecting two devices running my game, as opposed to using the GKPeerPickerController. This is actually working quite well. But I just realised that in my creating of the GKSession I'm not actually specifying whether the connection should be Wireless or Bluetooth. I have an option in my interface to let the user specify which connection method they'd like to use. How do I tell GKSession whether I want it to connect via Bluetooth or Wireless? I think what is currently happening is that it defaults to Wireless if wireless is enabled otherwise it uses Bluetooth. But I'd like to let the user specify which connection method, is this possible?   Hi, I am using MyEclipse and I use an Enterprise Application Project (EAP) that automattically deploys my Web and EJB Projects. These projects use some other projects that are just POJOs, "simple" java projects. Like a library kind of thing. The problem is that when I change something in on of the "simple" java projects I have to redeploy my entire EAP in my JBoss in order to see the changes. What I want is a way to automatically deploy those projects (POJOs) in the EAP, so hot code replacement works with those too. Any ideas?
