• Voices disappear when using headphones. [closed]

  How do I declare a variable in C? P.S. I have a pair of SteelSeries Siberia headphones. I've noticed that when watching some films the voices are completely silent, yet when I unplug the headset and listen through my speakers they are there and sound normal. I have no other software that could be interfering with it and it happens regardless of the software I use for playback (I've tried VLC, WMP and Quicktime). It is so strange, and it almost sounds deliberate - the rest of the audio is untouched but voices disappear. The films only have single audio tracks, and it doesn't happen with every film. Can anyone give me any hints as to what could possibly cause this? I am stumped!

• Twisted: how-to bind a server to a specified IP address? (solved)

  I want to have a twisted service (started via twistd) which listens to TCP/POST request on a specified port on a specified IP address. By now I have a twisted application which listens to port 8040 on localhost. It is running fine, but I want it to only listen to a certain IP address, say 10.0.0.78. How-to manage that? • Android TranslateAnimation resets after animation

  I'm creating something like a SlideDrawer but with most customization, basically the thing is working but the animation is flickering at the end. To further explain, I got an TranslateAnimation then after this animation it returns back to the original position, if i set setFillAfter then the buttons inside the layout stops working. If i listen to onAnimationEnd and set other's layout to View.GONE the layout fickers. Judging from it is that on animation end, the view goes back to original position before the View.GONE is called. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks

• SetWindowLongPtr with DialogBoxParam?

  Hey all- A while back I was writing a C++ program with the Win32 API that would display a dialog box and then listen to the messages it generated. At one point, I was interested in associating a piece of data with the dialog window. Were I manually creating the window and attaching a window proc, I'd just use SetWindowLongPtr to set the GWLP_USERDATA field to a pointer to the data to associate. However, in this case I was creating and displaying the window with DialogBoxParam, and it wasn't clear whether this function was associating that data with its own internal state. Since the MSDN didn't have a description of what would happen in this case, I ended up using some other approach to solve the problem. My question is this - is it safe to use SetWindowLongPtr to overwrite the GWLP_USERDATA value in a window created by DialogBoxParam? Thanks!

• Windows service only gets called when Visual Studio is attached to process

  I've created a simple windows service in C# using Visual Studio 2010. It uses a TcpListener and socket to listen for messages on a given port. This worked absolutely perfectly when my laptop had Windows Vista on it. However, since upgrading to Windows 7 and re-installing my service it only responds if I'm attached to the process and debugging in Visual Studio 2010 - at which time it behaves as expected. I've tried running the service under my (administrator) credentials and setting the exe to run as administrator. I've also checked "Allow service to interact with desktop" when it was running under the Local System account. I'm testing using both a test console app and an Adobe Air application - both with the same results. Are there some specific permissions that I need to allow the service to be called?

  One of gen_servers in my app call gen_tcp:listen(Port, [{active, true}]). First time I run unit test, it returns {ok, Socket}, but second time I run the same unit test, it returns an {error, eaddrinuse}, but lsof -i TCP returns nothing. Also, when the same unit_test is run twice on another machine (WinXP), it works as expected (that is, returns {ok, Socket} both times). Therefore, my gen_server obviously releases the port, but Erlang somehow doesn't know that. So, how can I figure out who does Erlang think uses this address?

• C# Events between threads executed in their own thread (How to) ?

  Hello, I'd like to have two Threads. Let's call them : Thread A Thread B Thread A fires an event and thread B listen to this event. When the Thread B Event Listener is executed, it's executed with the Thread A's thread ID, so i guess it is executed within the Thread A. What I'd like to do is be able to fire event to Thread B saying something like: "hey, a data is ready for you, you can deal with it now". This event must be executed in its own Thread because it uses things that only him can access (like UI controls). How can I do that ? Thank you for you help.

• [Java] Listening for TCP and UDP requests on the same port

  I am writing a Client/Server set of programs Depending on the operation requested by the client, I use make TCP or UDP request. Implementing the client side is straight-forward, since I can easily open connection with any protocol and send the request to the server-side. On the servers-side, on the other hand, I would like to listen both for UDP and TCP connections on the same port. Moreover, I like the the server to open new thread for each connection request. I have adopted the approach explained in: link text I have extended this code sample by creating new threads for each TCP/UDP request. This works correctly if I use TCP only, but it fails when I attempt to make UDP bindings. Please give me any suggestion how can I correct this. tnx

• Monitor multiple variable amounts of processes' start and exit

  I need some code to monitor the start and exit of processes. For example, assume I have a config file with 3 processe names, lets say, foo.exe, bar.exe and abc.exe. How I imagine this be done would be to create 3 threads and somehow listen to each process individually with a timer in each thread, and then do something afterwards. However, I would need to dynamically create threads and timers, as the config file is meant to be modifiable. I can work with VB.NET or C# Code. Thanks.

• Retrieving GET variable via PHP, send to SWF on same script?

  Is it possible to retrieve a GET variable within a PHP script and subsequently send the variable data to an SWF on the same script/document? I want the user to select an item on a PHP document and then use a Flash application I am developing to manipulate that data. I know how to load data from a PHP script into an SWF via URLLoader, but only by initiating the loading process from within the SWF. So, I am asking if it's possible to send the PHP data to the SWF from external source. Would the SWF need to listen in some manner? Is Javascript necessary here? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

• ScrollBall press events while screen is off on an Android device.

  I'm writing a quick music player for myself on my Nexus One and really want to add the feature of being able to switch to the next song without removing it from it's case, ie. by pressing the scrollball through the sleeve. I've scoured many resources and... Haven't found a decently easy way to listen to key press events while the screen is off. Can't seem to even get scrollball press events to work. I've tried using a broadcastreciever listening for the Dpad_center intent, but it doesn't seem to function properly. I'm not looking for someone to write the code for me, but if you have successfully done either of these things, any insight on techniques or resources would be amazing. Thanks in advance!

Are there any libraries that simplify implementing this communication? I know that there are several libraries to create native iOS apps in HTML5 and javascript (for example AppMobi, PhoneGap), but I'm not sure if there is a library to help create native iOS apps with heavy JavaScript usage. • Respond to a UDP message

  I have a pair of very simple C# programs (server and client). The client's user enters an IP address, and the client sends a UDP message to the server. The server uses UDPClient.Receive() to listen to IPAddress.Any, prints out the message it received and where it was sent from (the client's IP address), then sends a UDP message back to the client. The problem is in that last part: my client is not receiving any message. It listens only to the server, instead of IPAddress.Any. The SendUdpMessage() and WaitForMessage() methods are identical, except for the IPAddress.Any part. I cannot find what's wrong! I can post the code if I need to, but I don't know which part is relevant, and I don't want to post the entire program (about 150 lines combined).

• JavaOne in Brazil

  JavaOne in Brazil, currently taking place in Sao Paolo, is one event I'd love to attend. I once heard "father of Java" James Gosling talk about Java developers throughout the world. He observed that there were good developers everywhere. It was not the case, he said, that that the really good developers are in one place and the not-so-good developers are in another. He encountered excellent developers everywhere. Then he paused and said that the craziest developers were definitely the Brazilians. As anyone who knows James would realize, this was meant as high praise. He said the Brazilians would work through the night on projects and were very enthusiastic and spontaneous - features that Brazilian culture is known for. Brazilian developers are responsible for creating one of the most impressive uses of Java ever - the applications that run the Brazilian health services. Starting from scratch they created a system that enables an expert doctor in Rio to look at an X-Ray of a patient near the Amazon and offer advice. One of the main architects of this was Java Champion Fabinane Nardon the distinguished Brazilian Java architect and open-source evangelist. As she writes in her blog:"In 2003, I was invited to assemble a team and architect a Public Healthcare Information System for the city of São Paulo, the largest in Latin America, with 14 million inhabitants. The resulting software had 2.5 million of lines of code and it was created, from specification to production, in only 10 months. At the time, the software was considered the largest J2EE application in the world and was featured in several articles, as this one. As a result, we won the Duke's Choice Award in 2005 during JavaOne, the largest development conference in the world. At the time, Sun Microsystems make a short documentary about our work." "In 2007, a lightning struck twice and I was again invited to assemble a new team and architect an even larger information system for healthcare. And thus I became CTO and one of the founders of Zilics Healthcare Information Systems. "In 2010, I started to research and work on Cloud Computing technology and became leader of the LSI-TEC Cloud Computing group. LSI-TEC is a research laboratory in the University of Sao Paulo, one of the best in Brazil. • Easy Listening = CRM On Demand Podcasts

  OK, here's my NEW favorite resource for CRM On Demand info -- podcasts! Specifically, the CRM On Demand Podcast site -- signed, sealed, and delivered with humor and know-how. Yes, I admit, I know the cast of characters. But let's face it, sometimes dealing with software is just soooo dry! Not so when discussed by the two main commentators, Louis Peters and Robert Davidson, whom someone once referred to as CRM On Demand's "Click and Clack." (Thought that was too good not to pass along!) Anyhow, another huge plus about the site is the option to listen OR to read. Out walking my dog or doing the dishes? Just turn up the podcast. Listening to music or watching TV? I'll read Louis's entertaining write-ups to glean great info about CRM On Demand in a very short period of time. So that you get a better understanding of why I like this site so much, here's a sampling of what's discussed: Five Things about Books of Business As Louis Peters put it in his entry, when you see "Five Things" in the title, "you'll know you're going to get some concrete advice that you can put to work right away." Well, Louis and Robert do just that, pointing you in the right direction when using Books of Business to segment data. Moving to Indexed Fields - A Rough Guide (only an article, not a podcast) I've read all about performance and even helped develop material around it. But nowhere have I heard indexed custom fields referred to as "super heroes." Louis and Robert use imaginative language to describe the process for moving your data to indexed fields for optimal performance. Data Access QA from the Forums I think that everyone would admit that data access and visibility is the most difficult topic to understand in CRM On Demand. Following up on their previous podcast on the same topic, Louis and Robert answer a few key questions from the many postings on the Oracle CRM On Demand forums. And I bet that the scenarios match many companies' business requirements...maybe even yours! We Need to Talk About Adoption Another expert, Tim Koehler, joins Louis to talk about how to drive user adoption: aligning product usage with business results, communicating why and how to use the product, getting feedback on usability, and so on. Hope I've made my point -- turn to these podcasts to hear knowledgeable folks discuss CRM On Demand tips and tricks in entertaining ways. One podcast is even called "SaaS Talk"!

• Using Pandora in Boxee

  Boxee is a very cool multimedia app that lets you access and stream your digital media in many different ways. There’s also a lot of extra apps included with it, and today we take a look at the Pandora application in Boxee. Pandora has been a favorite free music streaming service that’s been around for some time now. Though there are new services like Grooveshark and Spotify that are competing, Pandora is still a reliable choice. It’s now included in Boxee, and here we take a look at using it. Create a Pandora Account If you don’t already have a Pandora account, you can easily create one at their website (link below). Pandora in Boxee To start using Pandora from Boxee, launch Boxee and from the main menu select Apps. Now from the My Apps section select Pandora. When the Pandora app menu comes up, select Start. Now you need to log into your Pandora account. After signing in you can starting listening to your stations, viewing artist info, and cover art. All while enjoying some cool visuals in the background. From the controls at the top you can control playback, skip songs, control volume, get information on why a song was picked, and give a song a thumbs up or down. Of course you can also pull up your stations and switch between them and add more. The same features you’ve come to expect from Pandora are available. One thing we noticed missing is not being able to click on the band or artist to get additional information about them –which you can do on the Pandora site and desktop app. But that isn’t a deal breaker by any means, and we’re hoping the feature will be added in the future. Then while you’re checking out other apps, shows, and setting within Boxee, the cool visuals continue and the songs from you stations keep playing. Conclusion Pandora is a great streaming music service and a welcome edition to Boxee. If you’re a fan of Pandora now you can listen to it on your home theater system. • UPK Customer Success Story: The City and County of San Francisco

  The value of UPK during an upgrade is a hot topic and was a primary focus during our latest customer roundtable featuring The City and County of San Francisco: Leveraging UPK to Accelerate Your PeopleSoft Upgrade. As the Change Management Analyst for their PeopleSoft 9.0 HCM project (Project eMerge), Jan Crosbie-Taylor provided a unique perspective on how they're utilizing UPK and UPK pre-built content early on to successfully manage change for thousands of city and county employees and retirees as they move to this new release. With the first phase of the project going live next September, it's important to the City and County of San Francisco to 1) ensure that the various constituents are brought along with the project team, and 2) focus on the end user aspects of the implementation, including training. Here are some highlights on how UPK and UPK pre-built content are helping them accomplish this: As a former documentation manager, Jan really appreciates the power of UPK as a single source content creation tool. It saves them time by streamlining the documentation creation process, enabling them to record content once, then repurpose it multiple times. With regard to change management, UPK has enabled them to educate the project team and gain critical buy in and support by familiarizing users with the application early on through User Experience Workshops and by promoting UPK at meetings whenever possible. UPK has helped create awareness for the project, making the project real to users. They are taking advantage of UPK pre-built content to: Educate the project team and subject matter experts on how PeopleSoft 9.0 works as delivered Create a guide/storyboard for their own recording Save time/effort and create consistency by enhancing their recorded content with text and conceptual information from the pre-built content Create PeopleSoft Help for their development databases by publishing and integrating the UPK pre-built content into the application help menu Look ahead to the next release of PeopleTools, comparing the differences to help the team evaluate which version to use with their implemtentation When it comes time for training, they will be utilizing UPK in the classroom, eliminating the time and cost of maintaining training databases. Instructors will be able to carry all training content on a thumb drive, allowing them to easily provide consistent training at their many locations, regardless of the environment. Post go-live, they will deploy the same UPK content to provide just-in-time, in-application support for the entire system via the PeopleSoft Help menu and their PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal. Users will already be comfortable with UPK as a source of help, having been exposed to it during classroom training. They are also using UPK for a non-Oracle application called JobAps, an online job application solution used by many government organizations. Jan found UPK's object recognition to be excellent, yet it's been incredibly easy for her to change text or a field name if needed. Please take time to listen to this recording.   Recently I had faced very interesting situation. Due to some reason we were not able to login into the production server for one of client. The reason for the same was that server was very busy, we had to login into the system and bring server to normal situation. When all the attempts failed, I decided to login using Dedicated Administrator Connection (DAC). However when I attempted to connect using DAC it threw following error for me. C:\Users\pinald>sqlcmd -A -d master -S .\SQLEXPRESS Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 : SQL Server Network Interfaces: An error occurred while obtaining the dedicated administrator connection (DAC) port. I was bit taken a back as I knew that my commands are correct to login and if DAC does not work, there should be some serious reason for it. When inquired further about the SQL Server version I learned that it was SQL Server Express version deployed. To conserve resources, SQL Server Express does not listen on the DAC port. There is an additional step to be done if SQL Server Express has to be used with DAC. Enable TRACEFLAG on SQL Server Express will enable the connection by DAC possible. Here is the quick methods how one can enable DAC on SQL Server Express. Go to Start >> All Program >>Microsoft SQL Server (your version) >> Configuration Tools >> SQL Server Configuration Manager. Click on SQL Server Services >> Select your SQL Server Express version >> Right Click Properties >> select Startup Parameters Once on the Startup Parameter add the Startup parameter which is TRACEFLAG -T7806. Click on OK and RESTART SQL Server Express edition. Now once again try to connect to SQL Server Express edition and it will work just fine. This is absolutely documented method on BOL and SQL Server Express needs to be restarted.   Oracle Reports GAAP EPS of $0.23, Non-GAAP EPS of $0.38New Software Licenses Up 13%, Applications New Licenses Up 21%Oracle Corporation today announced fiscal 2010 Q3 GAAP total revenues were up 17% to $6.4 billion, while non-GAAP total revenues were up 18% to $6.5 billion. Excluding the impact of Sun Microsystems, Inc., which Oracle acquired on January 26, 2010, GAAP total revenue grew 7%. GAAP new software license revenues were up 13% to $1.7 billion, and up 10% to $1.7 billion excluding Sun. GAAP software license updates and product support revenues were up 13% to $3.3 billion, while non-GAAP software license updates and product support revenues were up 12% to $3.3 billion. GAAP operating income was down 5% to $1.8 billion, and GAAP operating margin was 29%. Non-GAAP operating income was up 13% to $2.9 billion, and non-GAAP operating margin was 45%. GAAP net income was down 10% to $1.2 billion, while non-GAAP net income was up 9% to $1.9 billion. GAAP earnings per share were $0.23, down 11% compared to last year while non-GAAP earnings per share were up 9% to $0.38. GAAP operating cash flow on a trailing twelve-month basis was $8.2 billion. "Our solid top line growth, coupled with disciplined expense management, was key in generating $8.0 billion of free cash flow over the last twelve months," said Oracle CFO Jeff Epstein."The Sun integration is going even better than we expected," said Oracle President, Safra Catz.
