How do I generate (and label) a random integer with python 3.2?

Okay, so I'm admittedly a newbie to programming, but I can't determine how to get python v3.2 to generate a random positive integer between parameters I've given it. Just so you can understand the context, I'm trying to create a guessing-game where the user inputs parameters (say 1 to 50), and the computer generates a random number between the given numbers. The user would then have to guess the value that the computer has chosen. I've searched long and hard, but all of the solutions I can find only tell one how to get earlier versions of python to generate a random integer. As near as I can tell, v.3.2 changed how to generate and label a random integer. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

installing NUMPY for Mac OSX 10.7. (Lion) for use with Python

I Need to use nltk and numpy with Python. I am a newbie to Python and initially used the python 2.7.3 that came with my mac (currently running OSX 10.7.5). I learned that the apple version of python may not be robust so I downloaded the standard version from python.org. I have downloaded the nltk program for Mac OSX 10.7. This seemed to install fine. I am trying to download and install numpy using the instructions from the scipy website. http://www.scipy.org/Installing_SciPy/Mac_OS_X. I cloned numpy from github but when I tried to build it using the following command $ python setup.py build I received the following error MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setup.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory I also tried to build it using the scons command $ python setupscons.py scons --jobs=2 and received the following error /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setupscons.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory Can anyone think of a possible workaround?

iPhone - a question about @property

Hi, I am kind of newbie on Objective-C and I was looking at a code, trying to understand a few things, and I come across with this .h file: there was a declaration like that on the @interface section MyVideoClass *contrast_; then below we have @property (nonatomic, retain) MyVideoClass *contrast; @property (nonatomic, retain) FetchClass *fetchMe; The strange part is that the first has an underscrore after the name and the second one, doesn't. The other strange thing is that the guy has a call to these properties like this: FetchClass *fetchOne = [self.fetchMe contrast]; What kind of call is that? This seems pretty insane to me. I simply cannot understand what is going on here, but the code works. pretty insane. Can you guys explain me that? Forgive the stupid question, but I am still learning... thanks

Hi there, I'm a newbie in the field, but in the near future I have to develop an application for a friend(I've already did some work of the app and the friend is happy). I assume that I need 3 places to store my work, but I'm not sure if this is the best approach. I need your advice, opinion, link,book, blog about this subject. I plan to have: a place where I develop the application a place where I keep a back-up of the application a place with the application ready for use I'll use git in the development stage, but for the later I don't know what tools to use, or which are the good practices. How do I use functions from a DLL?

How do I use functions from a DLL? I'm a total newbie and I don't really understand how to use functions from a DLL file. I'm trying to use MS Visual Studio 2008 (C++). My understanding is that the DLL files will have corresponding header files and as long as I include the header files and call the functions normally in my code, it should work? Is that correct? Then I would just need to have the compiled exe file be able to find the DLL? Please let me know if that is a remotely correct understanding! Thanks! Russel

I looked at Sharp Architecture and its just too much to digest for my newbie mind. I need a clean, clear, concise Step A, Step B, Step C tutorial or a solid example that is a web application and not a console application. I have searched and searched and searched and I have found incomplete examples (examples with just enough information to make me say where does that code go), console applications and no good web application examples. Does anyone know of a COMPLETE web example? If I see another console example, I'm going to scream....

Sync offline JQuery Mobile form

My name is Dimas and I work as a developer in a hospital. I've developed a web form with JQuery Mobile which is accessed from an Android tablet. It sends data (text and FILES) to the server (PHP) and it's saved in a MySQL database. This tablets are used by doctors that are visiting the patients in their homes. Some of these patients live in remote areas with very bad Internet connection, so I'm thinking on use HTML5 Offline feature to solve these situations. I started reading about it but I'm newbie with this technology. I've some questions: Do you think this is the best/easiest solution? If I could save the form data in a local sqlite storage when the tablet is offline, how I could synchronize it with the data in MySQL server when the tablet become online? Thanks

Why does java have an interpreter? and not a compiler?

Iam a newbie to java and was wondering why java have a interpreter and not a compiler? While shifting from c++ to java we come across the differences between these two Compilation process being one of them. 1.A major difference between a compiler and interpreter is that compiler compiles the whole code at once and displays all the errors at a time whereas an interpreter interprets line by line. 2.Also a compiler takes a less time to compile a code when compared to an interpreter. When java was developed for more advanced and easy features and implementations why has it been restricted to a interpreter based on above facts? Is there any special reason why this is so? If yes what is it?

Ideas for Quick Hierarchical Listing - .NET

I have a table in SQL Server listing corporate departments and their sections and subsections (3 levels). I would like to create some web-based listing of this, but similar to a TreeList. I was thinking to set up nested Ajax Accordions, but it was taking me way too long to put together. I would even settle for a GridView with non-repeating column values. Is there a way I can implement my idea without it taking me more than an hour or so for a newbie to complete? Any controls in ASP.NET or Ajax I can bind to would be great.

Hello, So i am writing a little app that compares a user's position against a database on web-based server written using Django and performs some functions with it. Accessing the browser's geolocation data (in supported browsers ) is fairly trivial using JavaScript. But what is the best way to allow the Django server to access the longitude and latitude variables? Is it best to wrap them up as a JSON object and send to the server via POST? Or is there some easier (Geo)Django-based way to access the Navigator.geolocation browser object. Please forgive a newbie a question like this, but my Google-Fuing only seems to find ways to insert variables into JavaScript via template tag, whereas I need it to work the other way! Any advice or code snippets greatly appreciated. Feel free to talk to me like I am an idiot.

Hi, I'm a jquery newbie - wanted to ask what might be the best strategy for achieving what I am after as I think it uses a mix of jquery functions : If list of items exceeds 5 items a 'more' link appears which when toggled will reveal the rest of the items. If items list is 5 or less no 'more' link is shown. Hide button also at bottom of long full revealed list. (perhaps this is toggle+pagination?) Hi Everyone I am python newbie I have to implement lasso L1 regression for a class assignment. This involves solving a quadratic equation involving block matrices. minimize x^t * H * x + f^t * x where x 0 Where H is a 2 X 2 block matrix with each element being a k dimensional matrix and x and f being a 2 X 1 vectors each element being a k dimension vector. I was thinking of using nd arrays. such that np.shape(H) = (2, 2, k, k) np.shape(x) = (2, k) But I figured out that np.dot(X, H) doesn't work here. Is there an easy way to solve this problem? I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start. Using sessions & session variables in a PHP Login Script

I have just finished creating an entire login and register systsem in PHP, but my problem is I haven't used any sessions yet. (Like, there's not the word "session" in the entire script). I'm kind of a newbie in PHP and I've never used sessions before. What I want to do it, after the user registers and fills out the login form, they will still stay on the same page. So, like one half of the page will be if the session is logged_in and the other part will be else (the user is not logged in so display the login form). Should I start with Trac 0.12 ?

I'm going to start using Trac for the first time. From what I've gathered, the latest 0.12 is capable of supporting multiple project easily (which is something I will need since I got about 5 projects). However, it seems 0.12 is still in the development (0.12-dev). So, my question is, is it good enough for a newbie in Trac like me to use it? Does anyone has any experience using it ? It will be installed on a Linux server. BTW, I'll only be using the basic functions such as svn browser, wiki, tickets and others.

Relative newbie to C# here :) I'm currently creating a web link scraper and having issues with the responses I'm getting when trying to login to the website via my program. I'm trying to use Fiddler to see if my program is sending the proper data, but my program is throwing an AuthenticationException when trying to get a response from the site with Fiddler running. The requests are being sent over HTTPS and Fiddler's certificate is the cause of the excepting being thrown. My question is, what can I implement into my program to have it disregard the certificate authentication? As far as my program goes, the requests and responses are being handled by HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse classes.

I am a regex newbie and can't seem to figure this one out. The entire string can only be 16 characters long. I am pretty sure I am missing something obvious here regarding the leading zeros. Tried the NTS format and running into the same sort of problems.
