  • How do I connect to a wireless network?

    I just installed 10.10 x64 and cannot even find my wireless network let alone connect to it. I've searched all over SE and Ubuntu forums and cannot find out how to do this simple thing. Can some one please give me the answer? It is plugged in right now and is 100% updated. I have been following step by step the instructions found here: http://www.ctbarker.info/2010/05/ubuntu-1004-wireless-chipsets-and-wpa.html I decided to stat over because I was getting stuck on step 5: 'sudo rmmod rt2860sta' is was giving me this problem: 'ERROR: Module rt2860sta does not exist in /proc/modules' Since I started over I cannot even get past step 5 'sudo make' I get this: 'make: * No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.' I am lost. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Lost connectivity after configuring multiple network adapters on separate networks

    I am trying to setup an Ubuntu hosting server, currently just for development, and the server has two NICs, each sitting on a different network. eth0 is on 192.168.200.* and eth1 is on 192.168.101.* and each one has a static IP. eth0 is the public facing NIC card and eth1 is strictly for internal access to the server. I initially only setup eth0 and added the eth1 card when I needed it. eth0 was working find until I added eth1, now, can't get any connectivity on eth0 unless I pull eth1 out of the box. The configuration on each system is as follows: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.200.94 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.200.0 broadcast 192.168.200.255 gateway 192.168.200.253 auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.101.64 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.101.0 broadcast 192.168.101.255 gateway 192.168.101.254 Again eth0 worked fine until I added eth1. I have seen this happen with Windows servers if you have a Default Gateway setup for both NICs, but I am not sure if this works the same on Ubuntu. Here's just some of what it takes to keep the conference going, network style: 100 Oracle network, voice, and desktop engineers; security, risk management, and other IT experts, who come in from 17 countries  1000+ network switches 300+ miles of copper and fiber 485 wireless access points 2,500 wired laptops 300 VoIP phones And just where are all these networks and devices deployed?   • Network/browser issues after upgrade to 12.04

    I let my laptop upgrade to 12.04. And have no network afterwards. I went through all the articles I could find in google. Right now, I can ping google, and yahoo, but not cnn.com for example or anything else. Firefox says it can't reach google.com or gmail.com (or anything, not even IP. /etc/network/interfaces dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 <<<<<added auto lo iface lo inet loopback /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf #prepend domain-name-servers 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4; prepend domain-name-servers 127.0.0.1; <<<<< tried both /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf with and without dns=dnsmasq commented out. I can ping my wireless router and connect to it just fine. Have tried proxy/noproxy. This looks like After Upgrade to 12.04 - cannot connect to network but no answer there. I would hate to do a fresh install. Any assistance appreciated.

    I need to test an issue with running our application behind a proxy server with different type of configurations, so I installed ISA 2006 Enterprise on a desktop computer. Since this computer only has a single network card and I want to start out easy, I chose the "Single Network Adapter" template. We have a internal NAT'ed network which is in the 10 range. I have defined the internal network on the ISA server to be 10.XXX.YY.1 - 10.XXX.YY.255 I also have the Default rule which denies all traffic, but I've added the following Rule: Policy - Protocols - From - To Accept HTTP Internal External HTTPS Local Host Internal HTTS Server Localhost Then I configured Internet Explorer on a virutal machine running XP within virtualbox with Brigded network (gets same network address range as regular computers on our network) similar to this Instead of the server name I used the IP address.   • Oracle Social Network and the Flying Monkey Smart Target

I teased this before OpenWorld, and for those of you who didn’t make it to the show or didn’t come by the Office Hours to take the Oracle Social Network Technical Tour Noel (@noelportugal) ran, I give you the Flying Monkey Smart Target. In brief, Noel built a target, about two feet tall, which when struck, played monkey sounds and posted a comment to an Oracle Social Network Conversation, all controlled by a Raspberry Pi. He also connected a Dropcam to record the winner just prior to the strike. I’m not sure how it all works, but maybe Noel can post the technical specifics. Here’s Noel describing the Challenge, the Target and a few other tidbit in an interview with Friend of the ‘Lab, Bob Rhubart (@brhubart). The monkey target bits are 2:12-2:54 if you’re into brevity, but watch the whole thing. You might have seen them in the Oracle Social Network Hands-On Lab during the show. There’s a trend here. Not by accident, fun stuff like this has becoming our calling card, e.g. the Kscope 12 WebCenter Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots. Not only are these entertaining demonstrations, but they showcase what’s possible with RESTful APIs and get developers noodling on how easy it is to connect real objects to cloud services to fix pain points. I spoke to some great folks from the City of Atlanta about extending the concepts of the flying monkey target to physical asset monitoring. Just take an internet-connected camera with REST APIs like the Dropcam, wire it up to Oracle Social Netwok, and you can hack together a monitoring device for a datacenter or a warehouse. Sure, it’s easier said than done, but we’re a lot closer to that reality than we were even two years ago. Another noteworthy bit from Noel’s interview, beginning at 2:55, is the evolution of social developer. Speaking of, make sure to check out the Oracle Social Developer Community. Look for more on the social developer in the coming months. Noel has become quite the Raspberry Pi evangelist, and why not, it’s a great tool, a low-power Linux machine, cheap ($35!) and highly extensible, perfect for makers and students alike. He attended a meetup on Saturday before OpenWorld, and during the show, I heard him evangelizing the Pi and its capabilities to many people. There is some fantastic innovation forming in that ecosystem, much of it with Java. The OTN gang raffled off five Pis, and I expect to see lots of great stuff in the very near future.   • Android SDK Manager and AVD Manager doesn't have the correct information and fails to update on Ubun

    I'm trying to install Android SDK on Ubuntu but fail when I try to use the SDK Manager and AVD Manager to install Android platforms. I've downloaded: android-sdk_r04-linux_86.tgz The I start the SDK Manager and AVD Manager (UI) according to the README file: ./tools/android And I get the following Installed Packages: - Install SDK Tools, revision 4 Available Packages: - https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repoisotry/repository.xml - This repository requires a more recent version of the Tools. Please update- - Android SDK Tools, revision 4 - Archive for Linux (comment: funny since rev 4 seems to be what's installed this is what seems to be installed) Now doing an update of the Android SDK Tools, revision 4 or everything results in 99% progress and then the application hangs.   • SSRS 2008 Report Manager Error

    I have just installed SQL Server 2008 including Reporting Services on Windows Server 2003. I'm having a problem though accessing the Report Manager. When the Reporting Service is first started I can access it fine but after maybe an hour when I try and access it I get an error saying: Unable to connect to the remote server. The reporting service is still running at this point. I can connect to it through Reporting Services Configuration Manager and clicking on the Web Service URL gives a directory listing (I assume that is correct behaviour). If I stop and start the service through Reporting Services Configuration Manager then I can access Report Manager once again (although in maybe an hour I will get the same error once again). I've installed the latest SP1 service pack. I'm using the same domain account to run all the SQL services. The report server is set to use the default ReportServer virtual directory, is set to IP address All Assigned, TCP Port 80 and no SSL certificate. The report manager is set to use the default Reports virtual directory, IP address All Assigned, TCP Port 80 and no SSL certificates. In the log file I get an error: Unable to connect to remote server HTTP status code 500 An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I've searched the net but haven't been able to find a solution.

  • Device Manager in read-only remote mode when local

    Hello - since configuring a Windows Web Server 2008 R2 x64 to be hardened for an internet-facing deployment I receive this: "Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer." when entering Device Manager. I have tried reversing the changes I have made, such as: Re-adding Client for Microsoft Networks Re-enabling NetBIOS over TCP-IP Re-adding File and Printer Sharing Disabling the Windows Firewall in all profiles (public, domain, private) I get no joy. It looks like a Microsoft ballsup. I'll try and use Process Monitor to have a look. Google returns only 1 page for this error. Luke

  • Java file manager won't load in Firefox

    I am using Webmin and I can't get the file manager to load in Firefox. It is a simple, Java based file manager. When I try to load it I get the following error: This module requires java to function, but your browser does not support java Internet Explorer works fine and I have yet to try on Chrome. Java is installed and I have the same problem on Windows and Linux. Java seems to work fine with everything else, with the exception of webcams. Any advice on the issue would be appreciated. Edit: I just checked and it doesn't work in Chrome either.

  • Windows Boot Manager, linking a 'device' to boot linux

    I'm attempting to boot linux on a UEFI-GPT machine with a Windows Boot Manager (WBM). So far I have installed Archlinux (Arch) with Grub. The grubx64.efi is successfully on my windows boot partition and I can see the option to use it in UEFI-BIOS, selecting this loads grub and I'm able to get into Arch fine. I have noticed that in the Windows Boot Manager, selecting from the splash screen, 'Change defaults or choose other options' 'Choose other options' 'Use a device', shows the boot options as in UEFI-BIOS, in my case grub shows as 'Linux'. Selecting 'Linux' reboots the computer and loads grub then Arch. Is there anyway to use this entry for the device 'Linux' to show directly on the WBM splash screen under the entry for Windows 8.1? Ideally i'd like the 'Arch Linux' to link to the 'Linux' device. Guidance with bcdedit appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Where is the configuration manager for SQL Express 2005? I need to configure SQL Server for TCP/IP but there is no configuration manager with the package. I see SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard, I see SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access, but no Configuration Manager. According to the MSDN, there should be one. I've even looked online for a download of the Configuration Manager for SQL Server 2005, but could not find one. Did I miss something in the download or should I just scrap SQL Server Express and download the full-blown SQL Server for Developers?

    When I open Reporting Services Configuration Manager on my server, an error message appears that says: Reporting Services Configuration Manager An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800706B3 This error appears before I can even attempt to connect to an SSRS instance. In addition to this problem, I'm not able to connect to my SSRS instance via SSMS on my desktop. When I attempt to connect, I get the following error message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Additional information: The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt) Information about my environment: Server: Win Server 2K3 x64, SQL 2005 x64 SP3 Build 9.0.4053 Desktop: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Steps I have already taken: I have installed the latest service pack on my server and workstation. I do not see any errors in my event logs.

  • USB Thumb Drive not recognized in Hyper-V Manager

    I have the free, standalone core Hyper-V Server 2012 running on my physical machine. I set up remote management from my Windows 8 client. When I proceed to create a virtual machine I would like to install the OS from a usb thumb drive but it is not recognized in Hyper-V Manager on my client (when the USB is plugged into the physical server) nor is it recognized in Server Manager under File and Storage Services Volumes Is there a role needed to recognize external usb flash drives? Because I think this standalone version is just core Hyper-V role and that's it... but this is such a basic functionality. Can anybody comment.

What I am trying to do sounds pretty simple but I am struggling to find a neat, quick way of doing it. I want to create a sproc that takes an Srn and returns back all the staff under that Srn in the structure. If there is a score for QuestionId of 16 then that indicates a completed survey. I would like to return a line for the Srn entered (The top manager) with a count of completed surveys for the direct reports under that manager. Under that I would like each manager under the original manager with a count of completed surveys for each of their direct reports and so on.   • Is it possible to show " New Task" of Task Manager from tasks of Task Manager only?

    I work on remote Windows Server 2008 machine over RDP and frequently need to revive broken copy&pasting over RDP. Which is killing rdpclip process in Task Manger (tab "Processes") and launching it gain by: switching to tab Applications -- pressing button "New Task..." -- typing 'rdpclip'-- clicking OK. Well, I do not need to type 'rdpclip' if it is the last used command. The problem that in "Create New Task" of Windows Task Manager I always launch rdpclip only but it shows the last run program from Windows command prompt (Win +R), usually it is "notepad" for me. Is it possible to bind the last used command/task to Task Manager only? and how?

Opening up Network in Windows Explorer on either of the two laptops displays both of the laptops in the LAN fine. However, neither of the guest VMs on the server (nor the host itself) are displayed. Indeed, the guest VMs can not see each other in Network view either. I can ping all computers (laptops and servers) without problems from within the LAN, but all of the servers are simply not visible from anywhere. In addition, the Network Map screen (accessible via Network and Sharing centre) gives me an error message: "An error happened during the mapping process." And I'm suspecting this might have something to do with how LLTP (Link Layer Topology Protocol) is working on the network. Worth noting though is that before my server was on the network, the Network Map screen displayed fine (as far as I can remember).

  • How to connect to a queue manager with ssl enabled server connection channel when authentication is

    I am trying to write a java application connecting to server connection channel with SSL enabled. So far, I have been successfully connected to the channel by setting authentication to 'optional'. However, when I set it to be 'required', the connection fails. Here is what I did: Create key db for queue manager and keystore for the java client user. Create key/self-signed certificates for the queue manager and the client user, with names prefixed ibmwebspheremq. Export, exchange and import certificates for the queue manager and the client. (I did answered 'yes' when being asked whether I trust the queue manager cert). The location and password to the truststore and keystore are set to point to the same keystore at the client side, where the orgininal created client user key and the imported queue manager key are. With other settings being the same, if I switch back to 'optional' authentication, the connection works. I think there is something I understand incorrectly about this ssl authenticaion but cannot figure out what. Could someone kindly help me?

Some ideas Many packages (incorporate the Emacs Lisp List and other lists of libraries). Only packages that have been tested. Support for more than one package archive (so people can choose between many/tested packages). Dependency calculated based on required features only. Dependencies take particular versions into account. Only use versions that have been released upstream. Use versions from version control systems if available. Packages are categorized. Packages can be uninstalled and updated not only installed. Support creating fork of upstream version of packages. Support publishing these forks. Support choosing a fork. After installation packages are activated. Generate autoloads. Integration with Emacswiki (see wikirel.el). Users can tag, comment ... packages and share that information. Only FSF-assigned/GPL/FOSS software or don't care about license. Package manager should be integrated in Emacs. Support contacting author. Lots of metadata. Suggest alternatives before installing a particular package.   • Device Manager - does USB listing look right?

    I obtained the drivers from the manufacturer for my HT-Link NEC USB 2.0 2-port Cardbus card. When I plugged in the card before I got the drivers, 3 new entries showed up in the Device Manager - two "NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller" and one "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller." With the card plugged in, I uninstalled those two drivers. I then removed the card. I copied the new drivers to c:\windows\system32\drivers and the .inf file to c:\windows\inf. I also copied the drivers & inf to a new directory called c:\windows\drivers\ousb2. I reinserted the card. Windows automatically installed the same drivers as before. I selected 'update driver' on the "NEC PCI to USB..." entry and didn't see any other options. I then selected 'have disk' and pointed to c:\windows\drivers\ousb2 and got a message "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." I then selected 'update driver' on the "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB...," and manually selected "USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller" (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1). Windows then automatically found a USB root hub, and I manually selected "USB 2.0 Root Hub Device" (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1). Now there are two sections in the Device Manager titled "Universal Serial Bus controllers." I plugged in my external USB hard disk adapter, and "USB Mass Storage Device" was added to the first set. Here's how it looks (w/drivers from the properties): [Universal Serial Bus controllers] Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD (6/1/2002 5.1.2600.0) Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2 (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4 (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7 (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) USB Mass Storage Device USB Root Hub (7/1/2001 5.1.2600.5512) (5 more USB Root Hubs - same driver) [Universal Serial Bus controllers] USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1) USB 2.0 Root Hub Device (OWC 4/15/2003 2.1.3.1) When I unplug the card the two "NEC PCI to USB..." entries in the first set disappear, and the whole second set disappears. (I unplugged the hard disk adapter first...) The hard disk adapter still doesn't work in that Cardbus card with the new drivers. I don't think the above looks right - a second set of USB controllers listed in the Device Manager, and the NEC entries still in the first set, and the the USB mass storage device still in the first set. Any help appreciated. (Windows XP PRO SP3 w/all current updates.)

  • Google Chrome freezing when I open Bookmark Manager

    I have an issue with Google Chrome freezing whenever I open the Bookmark Manager. Only that particular tab freezes, and I can still use the other tabs. No bookmarks appear, and I cannot type in the 'Search bookmarks' field. This seems to be related with my logged in profile. If I change profile, it allows me to login. I've also tried to login with my profile on different computers using Chrome, and it also freezes. However, I can still add bookmarks from the bookmarks tab. I just cannot use the Bookmark Manager. Any ideas what I can do? Is it possible to somehow export my bookmarks, reset the profile bookmarks (without losing other information like extensions etc), and re-import them?
