  • Modify EXE to stop launching firefox

    I'm using a wireless modem program from my ISP. This program automatically disconnect when it detects the line is idle. It does so in 2-5 minutes of idle time. Whenever I reconnect, It will automatically fire up my default browser to the ISP portal. I DID NOT pay them to shove their web portal in my face 50 times a day. The ISP provides no options for disabling this behavior. Can someone please show me how to hex edit the EXE program to stop it from annoying the hell out of me?

  • In search of opinions on web based version control systems

    Hi. Researching various open source, web-based document management/version control systems. I've checked google/questions here, etc... I'm looking for a lightweight web-based (apache) document mgmt/version control app that runs on top of SVN. I need to have the ability to: have multiple users checkin/checkout have a workflow (when userA checks the file in, and finishes the app passes it to the next person, etc... the app needs to allow me to have a structure where the files can be moved as a group. the files will be changed on a monthly basis app needs to have a access/premission control system. some people can see certain files, and perform certain actions on the files I imagine that I'm going to have 40-50 people dealing with the different files. I imagine that I'm going to have 2000-3000 files that have to be massaged. I'd prefer that the app be php based if possible, as opposed to a straight java app. Thanks

  • How do I use a shared library (in this case JsonCpp) in my C++ program on Linux?

    I'm a new-ish C++ programmer, and I'm doing my first program on my own using C++. I decided I would like to use JSON to store some of the data I'm going to be using, and I've found a library to handle JSON, JsonCpp. I've installed the library using my Linux system's package manager, and in my C++ code, I've used in my source code file #include <json> and compiled it using g++ and it's -ljson and -L/usr/lib options (libjson.so is located in /usr/lib). However, the first usage of Json::Value, an object provided by the library, gives a compilation error of "Json has not declared". I'm sure my mistake is something simple, so could someone explain what I'm doing wrong? None of the books I had mention how to use shared libraries, so I've had to google to find this much.

    I work on a Mercurial repository that is checked out onto an Unix filesystem such as ext3 on some machines, and FAT32 on others. In Subversion, I can set the svn:executable property to control whether a file should be marked executable when checked out on a platform that supports such a bit. I can do this regardless of the platform I'm running SVN on or the filesystem containing my working copy. In Mercurial, I can chmod +x to get the same effect if the clone is on a Unix filesystem. But how can I set (or remove) the executable bit on a file on a FAT filesystem?

  • Is it too early to start designing for Task Parallel Library?

    I have been following the development of the .NET Task Parallel Library (TPL) with great interest since Microsoft first announced it. There is no doubt in my mind that we will eventually take advantage of TPL. What I am questioning is whether it makes sense to start taking advantage of TPL when Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0 are released, or whether it makes sense to wait a while longer. Why Start Now? The .NET 4.0 Task Parallel Library appears to be well designed and some relatively simple tests demonstrate that it works well on today's multi-core CPUs. I have been very interested in the potential advantages of using multiple lightweight threads to speed up our software since buying my first quad processor Dell Poweredge 6400 about seven years ago. Experiments at that time indicated that it was not worth the effort, which I attributed largely to the overhead of moving data between each CPU's cache (there was no shared cache back then) and RAM. Competitive advantage - some of our customers can never get enough performance and there is no doubt that we can build a faster product using TPL today. It sounds fun. Yes, I realize that some developers would rather poke themselves in the eye with a sharp stick, but we really enjoy maximizing performance. Why Wait? Are today's Intel Nehalem CPUs representative of where we are going as multi-core support matures? You can purchase a Nehalem CPU with 4 cores which share a single level 3 cache today, and most likely a 6 core CPU sharing a single level 3 cache by the time Visual Studio 2010 / .NET 4.0 are released. Obviously, the number of cores will go up over time, but what about the architecture? As the number of cores goes up, will they still share a cache? One issue with Nehalem is the fact that, even though there is a very fast interconnect between the cores, they have non-uniform memory access (NUMA) which can lead to lower performance and less predictable results. Will future multi-core architectures be able to do away with NUMA? Similarly, will the .NET Task Parallel Library change as it matures, requiring modifications to code to fully take advantage of it? Limitations Our core engine is 100% C# and has to run without full trust, so we are limited to using .NET APIs.

  • Query Concatenated Field (using SubSonic)

    Is there a way to query against a concatenated field using MS SQL? For instance, what I want to do is something like: Select FirstName+' '+LastName as FullName from Attendees where FullName like '%Joe Schmoe%' The above doesn't work. What I have found works is: Select * from Attendee where FirstName+' '+LastName like '%Joe Schmoe%' but I can't figure out how to do that using a SubSonic SqlQuery. I have a number of joins and OR statements added dynamically that I don't want to have to write out the sql manually. Any help/ideas?

  • LINQ OrderBy with more than one field

    I have a list that I need sorted by two fields. I've tried using OrderBy in LINQ but that only allows me to specify one field. I'm looking for the list to be sorted by the first field and then if there are any duplicates in the first field to sort by the second field. For example I want the results to look like this (sorted by last name then first name). Adams, John Smith, James Smith, Peter Thompson, Fred I've seen that you can use the SQL like syntax to accomplish this but I am looking for a way to do it with the OrderBy method.   • SQL SERVER – Template Browser – A Very Important and Useful Feature of SSMS

    Let me start today’s blog post with a direction question. How many of you have ever used Template Browser? Template Browser is a very important and useful feature of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). Every time when I am talking about SQL Server there is always someone comes up with the question, why there is no step by step procedure included in SSMS for features. Honestly every time I get this question, the question I ask back is How many of you have ever used Template Browser? I think the answer to this question is most of the time either no or we have not heard of the feature. One of the people asked me back – have you ever written about it on your blog? I have not yet written about it. Basically there is nothing much to write about it. It is pretty straight forward feature, like any other feature and it is indeed difficult to elaborate. However, I will try to give a quick introduction to this feature. Templates are like a quick cheat sheet or quick reference. Templates are available to create objects like databases, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, triggers, statistics, and functions. Templates are also available for Analysis Services as well. The template scripts contain parameters to help you customize the code. You can Replace Template Parameters dialog box to insert values into the script. Additionally users can create new custom templates as well with folder structure. To open a template from Template Explorer Go to View menu >> Template Explorer or type CTRL+ALT+L. You will find a list of categories click on any category and expand the folder structure. For our sample example let us expand Index Folder. In this folder you will notice the various T-SQL Scripts. These scripts can be opened by double click or can be dragged to editor area and modified as needed. Sample template is now available in the query editor area with all the necessary parameter place folder. You can replace the same parameter by typing either CTRL+SHIFT+M or by going to Query Menu >> Specify Values for Template Parameters. In this screen it will show  Specify Values for Template Parameters dialog box, accept the value or replace it with a new value. This will now get your script ready to go. Check it one more time and change the script to fit your requirement. I personally use template explorer for two things. First one is obviously for templates but the hidden one and an important one is for learning new features and T-SQL commands. There is so much to learn and so little time.   • Convert Form to UserControl

    I have a 3rd party code library that I'm using; part of this library is a winforms application for editing the configuration files used by this library. I would like to embed their configuration editor app into my application. I have the source code to their library and the configuration editor is (as far as I can tell) a straight forward Winforms app using standard controls. I'm trying to convert the app's main form into a UserControl so that I can host it inside my application which is WPF (WPF's WindowsFormsHost won't host a Form object, I get an exception). I changed the form object to inherit from UserControl instead of Form and fixed all the compiler errors (there weren't many, just property initializations that don't exist on UserControls) but what's happening is my newly converted control is just blank. When I run my test app I don't see any of the controls that make up the original form, just a blank page. Any ideas? I really don't want to have to re-implement their app from scratch, that would suck. Edit: I forgot to mention I'm testing this in a WinForms application, not WPF, to just get the control working before trying to use it from WPF.

  • rundll32.exe constantly running taking up resources slowing down my Win 7 computer

    Over the past week, my Windows 7 Home Premium computer (8gb RAM, 64bit) has been running slowly. When I look at my processes, there are always 2 rundll32.exe's running taking up 3 & 25% CPU power, memory slowly creeping upwards from around 115mb to 160mb each in the time it has taken me to right this message, sometimes popping upt o 300mb and back down. Svchost.exe is at 260mb. When I end those processes, everything returns to snappiness. I recently did some Windows Updates, and I think it was around the time my computer started acting slowly, but I can't remember if it was before or after the updates that things started running slowly. Last night I ccleaned & defrag'ed. How can I diagnose what's causing the slowness?

    Hi there, Does anyone know of a good framework to allow me design permission and roles against users. Basically allowing me to automatically check a user can do a certain thing, and then disabling or enabling menu items etc I am not really looking for asp.net security ... as i need to use it in my own service layer and clients both WEB and WPF will use it. I was hoping for something that allows me to create new roles and groups against users and then check what type of permissions a user has or a group has Any help really appreciated.. I am sure some kind of open source framework is available, well i was hoping not having to create my own Thanks

  • web design question (php/ajax)

    Hi guys... Hope this isn't a waste of your time. I'm working on a project, and it occured to me that there's a chunk of code out there, that should allow me to see how others have implemented this. I've got a project where I'm going to have a page, with a sel box. the user will select an item from the selList, and based on the item selected, a separate section of the page (areaB) will change in terms of the content/tbls being displayed. i then want to allow the user to go through a series of subpages in areaB, where the user goes through a submit/cancel/confirm process, where the stuff in areaB changes, with the rest of the page remaining the same... i'm trying to figure out the best approach to implement the on both client/server side. i could just have an ugly "if block" where i have abunch of logic, and i completely regen the page each time the user selects an action.. i could have an approach that might involve divs/frames, where i then just regen the targeted frame/div area.. is this even possible?? i could have some form of ajaxy process, which would only alter the targeted section(s) of the page... so.. i'm trying to talk to anyone who has ideas on how to do this, or more ideally, if you know of a good code (client/server) side example of this... that i can examine. i'd really appreciate it!! i've got a more detailed overview but didn't know if it would be cool to post it here... thanks.. tom

  • What is the fastest collection in c# to implement a prioritizing queue?

    I need to implement a queue for messages on a game server so it needs to as fast as possible. The queue will have a maxiumem size. I need to prioritize messages once the queue is full by working backwards and removing a lower priority message (if one exists) before adding the new message. The appliation is asynchronous so access to the queue needs to be locked. I'm currently implementing it using a LinkedList as the underlying storage but have concerns that searching and removing nodes will keep it locked for too long.   • Are there any small scale, durable document/object databases?

    I have a few .Net projects that would benefit from using a document/object database opposed to a relational one. I think that db4o would be a good choice, but we're not sure how much the cost is. I'd love to use MongoDB but it's design isn't for small scale, single server applications. Are there other options out there that I just haven't run across for small scale applications? EDIT: So is this a space that doesn't have a good solution, yet? Are there no small scale & durable document databases? Would my best choice be to use MongoDB and set the --syncdelay option set to 1?

    I want to create a string that contains many variables: std::string name1 = "Frank"; std::string name2 = "Joe"; std::string name3 = "Nancy"; std::string name4 = "Sherlock"; std::string sentence; sentence = name1 + " and " + name2 + " sat down with " + name3; sentence += " to play cards, while " + name4 + " played the violin."; This should produce a sentence that reads Frank and Joe sat down with Nancy to play cards, while Sherlock played the violin. My question is: What is the optimal way to accomplish this? I am concerned that constantly using the + operator is ineffecient. Is there a better way?

  • .NET /asp.net 4: Changes with automatic NAMES of controls?

    Hi there, I just updated an app from .net 2.0 to .net 4.0 and i have noticed the following... For example i have the following control.. <input type="hidden" name="ctl00$cphMain$hfdFueraHorarioOficinaConfirmado" id="cphMain_hfdFueraHorarioOficinaConfirmado" value="False" /> and then in javascript i did this before.. var hfdFueraHorarioOficinaConfirmado=document.getElementById('ctl00_cphMain_hfdFueraHorarioOficinaConfirmado'); but after checking the Id within the html source once it renders and also doing some debugging with firebug etc.... it has changed from ctl00_cphMain_hfdFueraHorarioOficinaConfirmado to cphMain_hfdFueraHorarioOficinaConfirmado can anyone explain why? .... so should i basically do a search and replace and remove the ctl00?????? A little confused Obviosuly the javascript line with the the ctl00_ infront return NULL because it doesn't exist, but removing this returns the object.. Any help or ideas really appreciated Thanks

I assume the objects are singletons as a result. Now the desired report format is EmpId OrderId Acme's Profit Evolve's Profit ----- ------ ------------- --------------- 1 1 700 $ 700 $ 2 1 500 $ 500 $ 3 3 1000 $ 1000 $ I tried hard at the crosstab but I'm unable to figure out how to group the records. I tried moving CompanyName in CrossTab columns and moved EmpId in rows & tried a cross tab group but results are not as expected. My questions are 1) Is this format achievable with a cross tab ? 2) How do I group record's by EmpId's in my crosstab in such a way that the Companies are moved horizontally ?
