How do I keep my Mac from constantly going to sleep?

The system is a PowerPC Mac Mini running MacOS Tiger 10.4.11. When I login (I'm the admin), everything seems fine - until about 10-15 minutes later. Then the system goes into sleep mode. Each time I try to wake the system up - I can barely log in before it goes to sleep again. Sometimes I don't have enough time to enter my password (from the screen saver). If I shut down and restart, then I have that 10-15 mins again - until it again goes to sleep. I checked the settings in the Displays and Energy System Prefs. I looked at Accounts and at Screen Saver System Prefs; no times seemed to be present. I've already reset the PROM and other things (as part of an earlier problem shooting session). If I don't log in at the desktop, things seem to be fine. Nothing in .profile, /etc/profile, or /etc/bashrc seems to stand out. Right now, the system is hardly usable; can someone help? I am doing a new install of Firefox and over the years my Windows "roaming folder" I use for backup has gotten all clogged up from so many add-ons and crap... I want to backup just a couple Firefox add-on's, one is "Fast dial" How do I backup this add-on and its addresses for when I reinstall Firefox and the add-on, so It will go back to where it is now? Most add-on's have a backup feature like "too many tabs" bookmarks and such but fast dial doesn't? so How do I backup this add-on? and /or addons like it without a backup feature? Triple-monitor set-up (2 unique, 1 cloned): Can a VGA splitter be used on one output of a dual-head

Background: I'm currently researching hardware components for some kind of information terminal we're building. This application of ours makes use of three output screens: (1) A touch screen where all user input is made; (2) A regular LCD monitor where the requested information is being displayed; and (3) A projector which displays exactly the same signal as screen (2) does. (All screens will run at the same resolution of 1024x768 btw.) Now I figured that using a dual-head video card would be sufficient, let's say a Matrox P690 low-profile PCI card. This would involve having a Y cable connected to the graphics card itself, then two DVI-to-VGA adapters at each end of the Y cable, and then having a VGA splitter on one of the VGA outputs. The following shows the setup in question: 0--1---------2-> VGA (DSUB-15) \ \ ----2-3---------> VGA (DSUB-15) \ \ -----------------> VGA (DSUB-15) 0: graphics card (LFH60 jack) 1: LFH60 to DVI-I dual monitor Y cable 2: DVI-to-VGA adapters 3: VGA splitter cable Question(s): Will this work? I'm particularly concerned about the following points: Can a low-profile PCI video card output a signal which is strong enough for three monitors (even if it's a dual-head card)? Does the combination of so many adapters and splitter cables work? (The LFH-to-DVI cable comes with the video card) Will the VGA splitter cable degrade the signal on the output screen & projector significantly? (If so, would a USB-powered splitter cable remedy this problem?) I can't possibly expect anyone to answer all those questions, but any input is appreciated.

Domain Outlook user is asked for password every time despite checking the 'remember password' button

We have a windows 2003 domain. All users have roaming profiles. We have a couple of users who, when they log into outlook, are asked for their password every time, despite selecting the 'remember my password' option. Our email is externally hosted exchange email. I've tried several fixes found on google such as deleting 'protect' folder in the user's profile, and deleting protect key in the registry but none work. I tried storing the password in windows' password/credentials manager, didn't work. It happens on any PC the users log into so it's not a machine specific problem. Any ideas? OS is Windows XP pro. Outlook is 2007.

Win 7 laptop taking a long time to log on when off the domain

I've clicked through on a few forums but unable to find a suggestion for this issue. I have a user with a HP laptop which will boot perfectly fine whilst connected to the network but at home it will take 4 minutes to log on. Some suggestions I have had is that its looking for the DNS server of the domain. Another was that it was suggested it was a roaming profile (it isn't). So hoping someone has encountered Windows 7 acting like this and has some suggestions. The other users on this domain don't have the issue and its a mix of XP and Win 7 client PCs.

Windows 7 pc freezes for an indeterminate amount of time after unlocking

Not sure if this type of question is appropriate for this forum, but I've tried everything I can think of to solve this problem aside from format/reinstall. I recently got a new work PC (Dell optiplex 755) with windows 7 professional x64. Standard developer software installed for .net development: VS2008, VS2005, SQL management studio, office 2007, etc. Recently I've been having this weird problem where after I lock my pc, when I try to unlock it, the screen will be black for awhile after unlocking. I can ctl+alt+del and put my password in but then it just goes black. The amount of time on the black screen seems to be related to the amount of time I am away from my PC. If only away a few minutes, it'll take about a minute to get to the desktop. If away for an hour, could take up to 15 minutes. If I lock it and go home for the night, I have to restart my PC in the morning (I've let it sit for an hour after a night of being locked and nothing happened). It doesn't do it every time but definitely the majority of the time. One weird thing I've seen is that if I remote into my machine before trying to log back in it does not do it. I uninstalled all software back to the point when I remember it started happening and it still does it. I was using this PC for a few weeks without this problem happening at all. Anyone know what my next troubleshooting steps could be? My IT department tried to fix it by moving my old profile to another disk and having me log in, effectively recreating a profile from scratch but that didn't solve it. As I said above if this isn't the right forum for these types of questions please let me know. Thanks in advance!

How to remove static IP from Mitel 5312 and enable DHCP

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this question -- although I'm confident I'll be told if not! -- but I've read the fine manual (at least, such a manual as I have), I've googled and I cannot get any insight into where to even start solving this problem. I have a bunch of Mitel 5312 handsets, talking to a 3300 ICP controller. Some handsets are at a remote location, get an address from my DHCP server over there, and use the Mitel "Teleworker" extension to connect in over the Internet. The remaining handsets were set up with static IPs by a BT-supplied engineer, on the same subnet as the ICP itself. So far, so good. I have one remaining teleworker licence, and need to move a handset from the home location to the remote. I've managed to boot it and configure teleworker, but I cannot for the life of me see where I tell it to forget its static IP, and make a DHCP request. Any ideas? Should I be looking on the controller, or holding magic combinations of buttons on the handset itself? EDIT: Following some advice from Robert, below, I've broken out a spare device and reassigned the profile for this user's extension to the MAC of the new phone, and a new profile to the old MAC. Unfortunately this still doesn't get me anywhere -- the new handset now asks for the teleworker install password. I suspect I'm going to have to get a Mitel engineer involved here, since I've never been given that password... Unless anyone has any great ideas?

How to increase the number of items in the "recent" folder in Windows 7?

Windows 7 keeps a list of recently used files in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent. Based on my observation, it keeps 10 items for each file extension. So when you So open 11 .txt files in a row, the 2nd to the 11th items will stay in that Recent folder, but the first one will be gone. My question is: How to keep an unlimited number of items in that Recent folder? Note: Increasing the per-application recent items (e.g. as in http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/change-increase-or-decrease-number-of-recent-or-frequent-items-displayed-in-windows-7-taskbar-jump-list/ ) has no effect on the per-user Recent item folder that I'm concerning.

SQL Server Management Studio Connect to Server List Editing

I'm using SQLServer Management Studio (2005) and I have a fairly lengthy list of servers in there, and I'd like to get rid of some of them that are no longer in use, without having to set them all up again. I know that the C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\mru.dat can be deleted and this will remove ALL the entries, but is there anyway to just delete some of them? (Coding info) I looked at the file and it is a serialised blob from the Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionDlg.dll (Class Personalization) in the Appplication directory, but all the methods are private. So I can't just create an instance of this and then call Remove on the entries. NGINX rewrite for vanity URLs when file doesn't exist (try_files and rewrite together)

I'm trying to get vanity URLs on my server. If the file path from the URL doesn't exist, I want to rewrite the URL to profile.php, but if my users have periods in their usernames, their vanity URL doesn't work. Modifying %HOME% on Emacs 24.3 on Windows causes .emacs to not be found

In order for magit to read my git settings on Emacs 24.3.1 for Windows, I added the following configuration from a stack overflow post: (when (string-equal system-type "windows-nt") (setenv "HOME" (concat (getenv "HOMEDRIVE") (getenv "HOMEPATH"))) Interestingly, after this is added to my .emacs, Emacs thinks .emacs doesn't exist anymore. If I do M-x cd to ~ and then do M-x pwd it says ~ is located at C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming. It appears that emacs is reading the .emacs settings file because it loads my custom theme. However, if I try to find ~/.emacs Emacs doesn't see it. The file has all permissions on the file system for any user.

Why java -version returning a different version than the one defined in JAVA_HOME?

I am trying to set JAVA_HOME in Ubuntu OS. I have copied jdk 1.7 in /usr/lib/jvm and set JAVA_HOME in /etc/profile file. How to open recovered files in word?

My computer restarted while I was asleep because of system updates (need to turn that off), and when I opened up Word the first time after it restarted, it gave me a pane on the left hand side that showed me all the documents I had opened. I chose one of the documents but I want to open them all, how can I bring that pane back? Update: I forgot to mention I'm on Word 2007. I've found that if you go to C:\Users*YOURUSER*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word you can see the autorecovery files. Mine are still in there, but I don't want to touch them, I'd rather bring back that pane and do it right just in case they disappear as soon as I double click haha...

We are trying to reconfigure the setup, with these goals: wifi roaming between the access points user-based authentication that isn't as annoying as MAC address filtering. 1) The entire building is hardwired with ethernet, so I assume it should be easy to set up the routers to act as one big network, but I can't figure out how. Can someone point me in the right direction? The routers are consumer-grade linksys routers, is it possible to do this without getting new hardware? 2) For security, we will probably upgrade to WPA2, and I'm thinking of using the Enterprise version so that users can log in with a username, instead of having a single key (so if an employee leaves or something, their access can be removed). We have several on-site Windows servers, can one of them be set up as a RADIUS server, or is that best left to a dedicated machine (again, using existing hardware is good).

Service nginx reload: unexpected error

How do you get around security warnings when redirecting AppData?

I've recently set up folder redirection for my user profile in a domain. For now, I've redirected AppData, Desktop, Pictures, Documents and Favorites. So far, so good. But now I've noticed a quite disturbing side effect of the whole thing. Whenever I click any of my pinned elements on the task bar, I get the following warning: The shortcuts get synced as well and are no longer trusted. They're located at \\DFS\UserData\Profiles\OliverSalzburg\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar That seems like it could be a problem when rolling it out to the whole company.

Why do I have three My Documents folders?

I'm trying to fix my profile on Windows 7. Currently %USERPROFILE% points to C:\Users\myUsername My Documents is also at C:\Users\myUsername \\profileServer\profiles$\myUsername has TWO "My Documents" folders Neither of these folders contain what's in C:\Users\myUsername\My Documents Navigating to %USERPROFILE% in Windows Explorer displays two copies of everything, one local and one copy from the server. Programs use sort of a toss up between C:\Users\myUsername\My Documents or one of the two My Documents on profileServer. According to our sysadmins, My Documents is supposed to point to the profile server, but other folders should be local. How can I fix this so I have ONE copy of everything, with My Documents pointing to \\profileServer\profiles$\myUsername\Documents and everything else local? To be honest, I don't understand why this is so difficult and confusing. For example, why does Windows allow displaying two folders with the same name in the same directory? And why does inputting C:\Users\myUsername and %USERPROFILE% into Windows Explorer produce two different results? They should be identical. Add Bookmark to IE automatically for new users on a computer

When I set up a PC, I would like to be able to have it so when anyone logs into that PC from the domain a couple of IT bookmarks will be in IE. I read I can do this with a Domain-Level group policy, but unfortunately, with my current domain group policies have not gone well, so I have fear (Rather not get into this in this question). Can I do this at the PC level when I deploy a new computer? So any domain users who log into the PC will have these bookmarks added when their profile is created (no roaming profiles). These are XP machines, and the domain is run by 2003 controllers.

single sign-on integrating SVN

I need to authenticate my windows users on to a Linux Server which will act as a primary authentication source. Users need to be authenticated and use their access to run SVN or Mercurial ( with something like Tortoise SVN client), or some versioning system. The versioning system need to be authenticated against the Linux Server's authentication source, and users need to use their Windows login username and password to server. I'd have attempted to do this normally on Samba. But is there a better choice? Also how do you create a roaming profile? That is anyone should be able to access their SVN from any PC as long as they use their right Windows username and password

Du Meter Log file

Where can I find the Du Meter Log file? I tried searching C:\ProgramData\Hagel Technologies\DU Meter but the folder is empty. I also tried C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming and Local and LocalLow but none of them even have a Du Meter or Hagel Technologies folder. I even tried searching the temp folder but still nothing. I have a NetMeter.csv log file that I want to try and replace over the Du Meter log file cause I can't seem to find any other way to import data into Du Meter.
