  • Preventing browser loading indicator with Chrome + GWT-rpc.

    Hello. I'm writing a ajax chatting webapp, just to test working with GWT. To simulate server side push of chat messages from the server to the browser, I have a XHR request running behind. It all works fine - except on Chrome, the browser is displaying a loading icon (a spinner) because of the XHR request on background. Is there any way to avoid this? I've tested it in Firefox, and it doesn't display such behavior.

  • HTML5 video - Safari (Mac) - live HLS stream - seek in live buffer

    I have the following HTML: <head> </head> <body> <button type="button" onclick="onSeek();">Seek</button> <video id="video" src="http://<host>/somevideo.m3u8" autoplay controls> </video> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.7.2.min.js"></script> <script> function onSeek() { var video = $('#video')[0]; video.currentTime = -300; } </script> </body> When I open the page, the m3u8 playlist has already about 100 media segments (5 min). Since it's a live video it starts playing from one of the last media segments and video.currentTime is set to 0. video.seekable.start(i) and video.seekable.end(i) shows the seekable range which is 0..currentTime. How can I seek to the previous media segments, say 5 min back? video.currentTime = -300 doesn't work. It resets currentTime to 0.

    Hi Friends My requirement is pretty interesting, I want to maintain one cookie between two different browser for same domain. so lets say I have create one cookie with name "mydata" and value "hiscal" from IE, then if i browse same website from firefox and trying to read cookie "mydata" then system should give me value "hiscal" but this is not happen in general case so can any one tell me how i can share cookie between to different browser(client) of same domain.   • cannot load windows media within firefox browser

    Hi all, I recently re-installed windows and everything on it and besides this one issue everything is working much smoother again... the only problem is that I cannot load windows media content (for example *.asx) within my firefox browser. If i go to a page which embeds such streaming media, the media player never loads, and if i type the full url to the asx in the address bar, nothing loads. I have "Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library 3.0.2.629" in my plugin list. what might i have broken? cheers, p.

  • Is this asking too much of a browser?

    I'm embedding a large array in <script> tags in my HTML, like this (nothing surprising): <script> var largeArray = [/* lots of stuff in here */]; </script> In this particular example, the array has 210,000 elements. That's well below the theoretical maximum of 231 - by 4 orders of magnitude. Here's the fun part: if I save JS source for the array to a file, that file is 44 megabytes (46,573,399 bytes, to be exact). If you want to see for yourself, you can download it from my Dropbox. (All the data in there is canned, so much of it is repeated. This will not be the case in production.) Now, I'm really not concerned about serving that much data. My server gzips its responses, so it really doesn't take all that long to get the data over the wire. However, there is a really nasty tendency for the page, once loaded, to crash the browser. I'm not testing at all in IE (this is an internal tool). My primary targets are Chrome 8 and Firefox 3.6. In Firefox, I can see a reasonably useful error in the console: Error: script stack space quota is exhausted In Chrome, I simply get the sad-tab page: Cut to the chase, already Is this really too much data for our modern, "high-performance" browsers to handle? Is there anything I can do* to gracefully handle this much data? Incidentally, I was able to get this to work (read: not crash the tab) on-and-off in Chrome. I really thought that Chrome, at least, was made of tougher stuff, but apparently I was wrong... Edit 1 @Crayon: I wasn't looking to justify why I'd like to dump this much data into the browser at once. Short version: either I solve this one (admittedly not-that-easy) problem, or I have to solve a whole slew of other problems. I'm opting for the simpler approach for now. @various: right now, I'm not especially looking for ways to actually reduce the number of elements in the array.   • Preventing mouse emulation events (ie click) from touch events in Mobile Safari / iPhone using Javas

    In doing a single page Javascript app with interactive DOM elements I've found that the "mouseover-mousemove-mousedown-mouseup-click" sequence happens all in a bunch after the "touchstart-touchmove-touchend" sequence of events. I've also found that it is possible to prevent the "mouse*-click" events from happening by doing an "event.preventDefault()" during the touchstart event, but only then, and not during the touchmove and touchend. This is a strange design, because because it is not possible to know during the touchstart yet whether the user intents to drag or swipe or just tap/click on the item. I ended up setting up a "ignore_next_click" flag somewhere tied to a timestamp, but this is obviously not very clean. Does anybody know of a better way of doing this, or are we missing something? Note that while a "click" can be recognized as a "touchstart-touchend" sequence (ie no "touchmove"), there are certain things, such as keyboard input focus, that can only happen during a proper click event.

  • Orientation change event in Browser on Palm webOS

    I'm working on a web application where I'm trying to capture when the user rotates the screen. Fundamentally, I want to know if the user is browsing in portrait mode or landscape mode. The iPhone/iPad and Android browsers send a resize event when the screen orientation changes. Unfortunately, the browser in webOS doesn't seem to send that notification. Any advice on how to detect in the browser any changes in orientation on Palm webOS? Thanks.

  • Getting HAPROXY to redirect http to https in users browser session

    We are currently using a Internet cloud provider to host our SaaS platform. The platform consists of a Firewall - Cloud Provider SLB - - Apache Web Server - HAPROXY SLB - Liferay Platform We have had to use HAPROXY because of an issue with the cloud providers SLB that meant we were unable to use it for load balancing the Liferay platform applications. I have implemented HAPROXY in our secure tier and that seems to do the trick of load balancing the requests quite adequately. However during testing we encountered a functional issue whereby selecting a sub-menu from the web portal resulted in the application hanging, using an http analyser we saw that the request being passed back to the users browser was in http, from discussing this with the software vendor it transpires that the Liferay application has some hard-coded http links, and that other customers have worked around this by using physical NLB's such as F5 and redirecting the http traffic to https.     I'd like to add a header view to an UIWebView similar to the address/search bar in MobileSafari and the excellent Articles.app by Sophia Teutschler. More precisely, I'd like to create a "pull to fix orientation" view above a UIWebView, just like in Articles. Articles does use a UIWebView, so it seems to be possible. Is there a way to accomplish this without having to embed the UIWebView into a UIScrollView and updating its size all the time, as described in this article? Apparently, I do need the scrolling events to have the "pull to fix orientation" behave accordingly.

  • Lotus Notes wants to open some emails with web browser, rather than within Notes itself

    I have a problem with Lotus notes 8.5.1 wanting to open certain emails in my web browser, rather than within Notes itself. The emails that do this, seem to have some html in the note (Not just a link, but the note itself) This is a recent upgrade from 8.0.2 which had a similar problem, but it showed all of the html formatting characters in the notes, rendering it almost unreadable. I was hoping a fresh install of Notes would fix it, but it did not. I am using the same version of Notes & Win XP at work, and I do not have the problem. I am guessing that it is a setting on my home computer and not Notes, but I have no idea what it would be.

    Hello all: I'm an iPhone developer, but new to web development. I've done some basic HTML websites and made one in iWeb as well. I'm trying to branch out to actual mobile development now, so I checked out Dashcode. Anyway, I'm trying to put a Call Button, Mail Button, and Map Button in horizontal alignment. I realize that I can add a Column Layout and have two buttons in a row, but that's the most I've gotten. Any ideas? Thanks! Thomas

  • PHP: Symlink in public_html cannot be accessed through browser

    I have tester.php file which I want to run on the browser and I have created symlink to it in my public_html folder, but still when I try to run it, its not working and gives me following error message. Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster. Error 403 web.upc03.dev.com Sun Apr 4 22:41:23 2010 Apache I am not sure as to why am I getting this error message, I have check all file permissions settings and it seems to be fine. My File permissions settings are: lrwxrwxrwx for tester.php Is there something that should be done other way or is this not the proper approach ?

  • persistant data in tor browser bundle?

    What sort of persistent data is generated by bundled Tor? I recently did an experiment using the Tor Browser Bundle for GNU-Linux. I created two directories, A and B, and placed an identical copy of Tor in each one. Next I placed a simple python script in directory A that both launched the vidalia package and, when exiting the network, deleted the entire contents of A with the exception of itself and rebuilt the bundle from the original archive. What surprises me is that after about ten hours of browsing each, A and B now show a distinct difference in startup time. Also curious is that I get a message in the log of B that never shows up in A: new control connection open which is a notice level advisory. This has nothing to do with what I was originally testing but now I'm interested in what exactly is going on. By the way I do not have to rely on Tor for my personal safety as many are forced to do so even if you just have a hunch I'd be interested in hearing it.

    I work in QA in a .NET shop and recently part of my testing process has started to involve testing our company website on mobile devices. At least one of our techs uses an HTC Desire. After tons of googling I still can't find a good online emulator for testing websites on different types of mobile devices. Is anyone aware of a website that I can test across multiple mobile platforms? Or even an online HTC or Blackberry browser emulator? I've found an iphone/opera mini simulator, but that's about it. Also, I realize there are a lot of SDK's that include emulators, but I'd rather not have to set up an entire SDK just to use an emulator.

  • Getting content with images into the Web Browser control without temporary files

    For a client server application, I'd like to display content with a web browser control with images without writing temporary files to the disk. I've tried using mht files via documentstream and documenttext, but the web browser control isn't smart enough to recognize mht files. I would use data URI images, however most computers this will be installed on use IE6 or 7. Are there any other options for this?
