• Disable RDC Welcome Screen in Windows 2008 R2

  Is there a way to disable or bypass the "Welcome" screen I see when I'm using RDC to log in to a machine using saved credentials? I have startup task which launches an RDP session automatically to localhost when the machine boots. This works, except that the remote desktop window stops and waits for an "OK" on the Welcome screen: MACHINENAME-A.B.C.D(Server ID:Console 0) Welcome [OK] This screen is preventing me from automating this login. Is there any way to get around it? EDIT: Here's the command line I'm currently using to launch it: start /min C:\windows\system32\mstsc.exe c:\rdp\ServiceRunner.rdp

• Very Dark Windows 7 Screen

  My Gateway laptop -Windows 7- screen became too dark a few days ago after I finished installing Windows automatic update. I can see nothing unless I use a flashlight. Windows login screen is the only bright screen for few seconds. What should I do to resolve this issue? I checked power-saving/ Power Options settings and rebooting in Safe Mode. I tried to lower the refresh rate but it did not allow me. The laptop adapter type is ATI Radeon Xpress series. I calibrated display color. I uninstalled and reinstalled the adapter. I tried to update the driver but the driver is up to-date. Any help would be appreciated.

  Hello all Im beginner to VMWare player , im using CentOS 5.5 as the virtual OS and installed the VMWare Player in windows xp 32 bit And its working great , but when I like to start the GNUME gui to use x server its starting the GUI desktop right inside the VMWare server I like it just to start , and I will connect form out side ( for example with xming x server ) how can I do that ? Second question is how can I make the VMWare server with the GUI display to be full screen on my desktop ? Now when I resize the window its getting full screen but the Linux main window remain centered and small . and I like it to stretch full screen

• Pressing zero key brings up lock/switch user screen in W7

  This issue started after my cat walked all over the keyboard... Whenever I press the "zero" key, the screen goes black and I'm taken to the lock/switch user screen. The other functions of the key work fine - it can produce ) and / like usual. Numlock is off, and as far as I know, my computer doesn't have Function Lock. If I log out of my user account and sign in as a guest, the "zero" works again, but if I create a new user profile, it doesn't work. I get the same issue when I hit "zero" using the on-screen keyboard. My keyboard layout is set to US English. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the ATK package, and updated my keyboard drivers. I have an ASUS U43JC-X1 laptop running Windows 7, and I haven't installed any new programs lately.

• Can't get to the login screen

  I upgraded my wife's Windows 7 machine, to Windows 8 Pro, about 10 days ago. She's been using it fine ever since. We typically leave our desktops running 24/7, and just turn off the monitor. This morning she turned the monitor on, and saw the screen with the Seattle Space Needle, and then she pressed the enter key to get to the login screen. Nothing happened. Next she pressed the mouse key. Nothing happened. The mouse moves around fine. But we can't get it past the Seattle Space Needle screen. She replaced the batteries in both her keyboard and mouse recently. So, what's going on? How do we fix it?

  I have a problem with my Windows 7 which fails to startup, and it happens frequently. I already tried to fix it, but nothing happened. I checked my hardisk and there is no badsector detected. Its stop in the Welcome screen and I get the following message: C:\Windows\System32\EXPLORERFRAME.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error. The Welcome screen then disappears and I get a totally empty screen with a cursor. What happened and how can I fix it?

• What resolution should my Android splash screens be?

  I'm creating a splash screen that will display while my Android application loads. I'd like to create it at the correct size so Android won't auto-scale it up or down to fit the screen. But there are at least three important screen sizes I care about: 320x480, 480x854 (Droid), and 480x800 (Nexus One). I've read the documentation on supporting multiple screen sizes, but I still don't see how I'm supposed to configure different splash screens for Droid/Nexus one (they're both "hdpi" resources as far as Android is concerned), and I don't know exactly how large my splash screen should be in any case. (How tall is the OS title bar/menu in Droid? N1?) What size should I make these images, and how do I tell Android to use the correct size on a given screen?

  I have a freshly setup 12.04 LTS pc system (120 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, 16 GiB RAM); since a few days, I can't login to the graphical desktop anymore: there is very short flashing shell window which disappears very quickly, and I'm confronted with the login screen again. I believe there is something about modprobe and vbox, but I can't read it fast enough ... I can login to a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1). It did not help to chown all contents of my home directory to me:my-group, like suggested here. • Multi Monitor Setup Problems

  I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx. I have until recently been using a nVida Graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT) with two monitors attached, this all worked fine and dandy. A couple of days ago I bought two new identical LCD monitors for a multi monitor setup and two ATI graphics cards (ATI Sapphire Radeon HD5450). NOTE *All monitors work fine in Windows XP, 2k, Vista and 7 After I had booted into Ubuntu only one display came on, that I kind of expected anyway, then I removed the driver for the nVidia card and downloaded the ATI version which gave me the ATI Catalyst Control Center - in that only two of the displays were showing the third was disabled and showing unknown driver. I enabled the third monitor that stated "Unkown Driver" and had to reboot, upon reboot none of the displays work. I restarted and booted up into recovery mode and from now that is only what I can get into using a failsafe driver. It seems according to the log that a server is already active for Display 0 and I have to remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again. This is what the log file is saying: Fatal Server Error Server is already active for display 0 if this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again. (WW) xf86 closeconsole: KDSETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor (WW) xf86 closeconsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor (WW) xf86 closeconsole: VT_GETSTATE failed: Bad file descriptor ddxSigGiveUp: closing log I have tried looking at my xorg.config file but unfortunately I have not really got a clue as to how it "should" be - I have tried regenerating it using this command from a terminal: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg but that had no effect so I am currently stuck in failsafe driver mode but two monitors are active but are mirroring each other. I hope that this is not to long - looking back I have been going on a bit! but I am just trying to explain as much as I can... I have asked this on Linuxquestions but nobody seems to know either or at least I have not had any responses. Could some kind soul please help explain what I can do from here? I would be eternally grateful.   Does anyone know what will happen with existing apps when they run on the iPhone 4.0 in terms of the new screen resolution? I am assuming, just like developing for the iPad that there should be no hard coded screen resolutions in your code. I'd also like advice on the best way of writing robust code to work well on any device. For instance, detecting the screen resolution is not enough - on the iPad the screen is physically bigger so you can display more items on it. On the new iPhone the screen is the same physical size but higher resolution, so the likely thing is that you wont want to display more items, just higher resolution versions of them. • Touch Screen Running Windows CE

  I'm starting my first project that runs on a 7 inch touch screen running Windows CE 6.0 (and NETCF 3.5). The touch screen doesn't respond to touch too well when I use my finger. The only way for me to navigate around is by using a stylus (or similar). Since I've never worked with Windows CE or a resistive touch screen, I'm not sure if I should expect to be able to use my finger or if the stylus method is, essentially, the only way to effectively navigate around. - or, maybe, I have a touch screen that simply isn't that good. If you have experience with WinCE running on a touch screen, do you find that a stylus is the only way to go?

But the strange thing is, that IF I did screen -x $PROCESS and detach (ctrl-A & ctrl-D) and then I use the Stop command it does work. So is there a way around to stuff printf without -screen -x the $PROCESS? Thank You in Advance

• Ubuntu 13.04 boot into black screen, even after installing nvidia drivers, fail at: "Starting Reload cups, upon starting avahi-daemon..."

  I got a new machine with i7 4770k and gefore gtx660. I installed windows and then installed Ubuntu 13.04. In the installation everything went well, after the installation I again boot from the USB and choose try ubuntu, and installed boot-repair because windows automatically boot with no option for ubuntu. After I repaired the boot, I restarted and got into grub, when I chose Ubuntu I got message saying I'm running on low graphics mode and when I pressed ok the screen turned off. I couldn't do anything so I restarted and after reading this post: My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it? I got into recovery, selected dpkg and repaired packages. Then I rebooted, and tried to press 'e' and change quiet splash to no splash and nomodeset but unfortunately both of them didn't work, and not the screen didn't get turned off, but I just saw a blank screen. So I rebooted again, entered the recovery, and this time I went to the root shell, and tried to install nvidia drivers from this guide here: http://www.howopensource.com/2012/10/install-nvidia-geforce-driver-in-ubuntu-12-10-12-04-using-ppa/ I rebooted and got the same black screen again (the screen didn't go off, just saw a blank screen). In the grub I see that the kernel is 3.8.0-25. I also checked that the usb files are not corrupted using the check CD from the ubuntu installation screen. I'm really frustrated, I don't know what else can I do. (If someone also knows how can I connect to wifi using the root shell it will be very appreciated, because when I choose the 'enable networking' it again booting me to a black screen.   Hi, Sorry if the question is not worded well, I'm a new to both 3D and OpenGL. How could I go about obtaining the 3D coordinates of the occluding object, at the point where occlusion is happening (i.e. the 'intersection' of the object in front/closest to the screen)? Just to offer a [very] rudimentary, visual, example, if you were to form an index-finger cross, with your right hand closest to your face, I'd like to know the coordinates of the part of your right finger which obscures the other finger (obviously back within the OpenGL context - no jokers ;-) ). If there is a way to find out both about the occluder (hider) and the occluded (hidden) objects in OpenGL, then that would be of great use, also. Cheers Rich

  I'm trying to implement mouse interaction in a 2d isometric game, but I'm not sure if it's possible given the coordinate system used for tile maps in the game. I've read some helpful articles like this one: How to convert mouse coordinates to isometric indexes? However, this game's coordinate system is "jagged" for lack of a better word, and looks like this: Is it even possible to map mouse coordinates to this successfully, since the y-axis can't be drawn on this tile-map as a straight line? I've thought about doing odd-y-value translations and even-y-value translations with two different matricies, but that only makes sense going from tile-screen.

• Hide usernames shown on Windows Server 2008 Remote Desktop login screen

  When I remote desktop to my Windows Server 2008 (a hosted virtual server) I see a login screen showing an icon for each user in the system. I can click on a user then enter a password and login. This is a terrible security oversight in my opinion as it gives anyone that might want to compromise my server a full list of valid usernames. Is there a way to revert to the old style of login screen requiring both username and password? Thanks
