  • Adding string items to a list of type Person C#

    - by user1862808
    Im makeing a simple registration application and I have an assignment to learn more about lists. I have an assignment that says that i am to create a class called Persons and in that class set the values from the text fields in variables and add this to a list of type Person. So far: in the Person class: string strSocialSecurityNumber = string.Empty;//---( This will not be used now.) string strFirstName = string.Empty; string strLastName = string.Empty; string strFullName = string.Empty; string strAge = string.Empty; string strAll = string.Empty; int intAge = 0; List<Person> lstPerson = new List<Person>(); public void SetValues(string FirstName, string LastName, int Age) { strFirstName = FirstName; strLastName = LastName; strFullName = strFirstName + " " + strLastName; intAge = Age; strAge = Convert.ToString(intAge); strAll = strAge + " " + strFullName; } public List<Person> Person() { lstPerson.Add(strAll); return lstPerson; } Error message: "can not convert from string to Person" The assignment says that the list is to be of the type Person so i am suppose to add strings to it and ive looked how to do this but I dont know how. I have seen that there are options like "ConvertAll" But im not sure if I am allowed to use it since the list should be of type Person. Thank you!

  • How can I modified the value of a string defined in a struc?

    - by Eric
    Hi, I have the following code in c++: define TAM 4000 define NUMPAGS 512 struct pagina { bitset<12 direccion; char operacion; char permiso; string *dato; int numero; }; void crearPagina(pagina* pag[], int pos, int dir) { pagina * paginas = (pagina*)malloc(sizeof(char) * TAM); paginas - direccion = bitset<12 (dir); paginas - operacion = 'n'; paginas - permiso = 'n'; string **tempDato = &paginas - dato; char *temp = " "; **tempDato = temp; paginas - numero = 0; pag[pos] = paginas; } I want to modify the value of the variable called "string *dato" in the struct pagina but, everytime I want to assing a new value, the compiler throws a segmentation fault. In this case I'm using a pointer to string, but I have also tried with a string. In a few words I want to do the following: pagina - dato = "test"; Any idea? Thanks in advance!!!

  • Performance of String literals vs constants for Session[...] dictionary keys

    - by FreshCode
    Session[Constant] vs Session["String Literal"] Performance I'm retrieving user-specific data like ViewData["CartItems"] = Session["CartItems"]; with a string literal for keys on every request. Should I be using constants for this? If yes, how should I go about implementing frequently used string literals and will it significantly affect performance on a high-traffic site? Related question does not address ASP.NET MVC or Session.

  • How to split up a long list using \n

    - by pypy
    Here is a long string that I convert to a list so I can manipulate it, and then join it back together. I am having some trouble being able to have an iterator go through the list and when the iterator reach, let us say every 5th object, it should insert a '\n' right there. Here is an example: string = "Hello my name is Josh I like pizza and python I need this string to be really really long" string = string.split() # do the magic here string = ' '.join(string) print(string) Output: Hello my name is Josh I like pizza and python I need this string to be really really long Any idea how i can achieve this? I tried using: for words in string: if words % 5 == 0: string.append('\n') but it doesn't work. What am I missing?

  • How to test whether a char is NOT in a string? (java, junit)

    - by JB
    As title says, im having trouble with my junit tests passing for checking if a character is not in a string and how to check if an empty string doesnt have a character. here is the method i have: public static boolean isThere(String s, char value){ for(int x = 0; x <= s.length(); x++){ if(s.charAt(x) == value){ return true; } else if(s.length() == 0){ return false; } } return false; And here is the junit test: public void testIsThere() { { String sVal = "Jeff George"; boolean hasA = StringMethods.isThere(sVal,'e'); assertTrue(hasA); boolean hasE = StringMethods.isThere(sVal, 'o'); assertTrue(hasE); boolean notIn = StringMethods.isThere(sVal,'b'); assertTrue(notIn); } { String sVal = ""; boolean nothingIn = StringMethods.isThere(sVal,'a'); assertFalse(nothingIn); boolean notIn = StringMethods.isThere(sVal,'b'); assertFalse(notIn); } } Thank you very much, appreciated

  • Is there a way to reduce the verbosity of using String.Format(...., p1, p2, p3)?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    I often use String.Format() because it makes the building of strings more readable and manageable. Is there anyway to reduce its syntactical verbosity, e.g. with an extension method, etc.? Logger.LogEntry(String.Format("text '{0}' registered", pair.IdCode)); public static void LogEntry(string message) { ... } e.g. I would like to use all my and other methods that receive a string the way I use Console.Write(), e.g.: Logger.LogEntry("text '{0}' registered", pair.IdCode);

  • How to reference a string from another package in a library using XML in Android?

    - by Garret Wilson
    The Android documentation tells me that I can access a string from another package by using the "package name", whatever that means: @[<package_name>:]<resource_type>/<resource_name> So in my manifest I want to access a string that I've placed in a separate library project, in the com.globalmentor.android package---that's where my R class is, after all: <activity android:label="@com.globalmentor.android:string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> That doesn't even compile. But this does: <activity android:label="@string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> Why? What does the Android documentation mean which it talks about the "package_name"? Why doesn't the first example work, and why does the second example work? I don't want all my resource names merged into the same R file---I want them partitioned into packages, like I wrote them.

thanks for your help thats how i tried to get it into my activity public class MainTabActivity extends TabActivity { private Context context; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.maintabactivity); TabHost mTabHost = getTabHost(); Intent intent1 = new Intent().setClass(this,MapOfLight.class); //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,Test.class); //Testactivity //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,DetailView.class); //DetailView Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,ObjectList.class); //ObjectList //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,Gallery.class); //Gallery Intent intent3 = new Intent().setClass(this,ContactDetail.class); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_mol").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.mol), getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_mol)).setContent(intent1)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_highlights").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.highlights),getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_highlights)).setContent(intent2)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_contacts").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.contact),getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_contact)).setContent(intent3)); mTabHost.setCurrentTab(1); SQLiteDatabase db; DBAdapter dh = null; OpenHelper openHelper = new OpenHelper(this.context); dh = new DBAdapter(this); db = openHelper.getWritableDatabase(); dh.SQL_INSERT_COUNTRY("AT", "Austria", "AUT"); } } i tried it with my country table because it has only 3 columns public class Country { private static String Iso2Count = "iso2_country"; private static String NameCount = "name_country"; private static String FlagCount = "flag_image_url_country"; public static final String TABLE_NAME = "country"; public static final String SQL_CREATE = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TABLE_NAME + "(" + Iso2Count + " TEXT not NULL," + NameCount + " TEXT not NULL," + FlagCount + " TEXT not NULL," + "primary key(iso2_country)"; public boolean SQL_INSERT_COUNTRY(String Iso2CountIns, String NameCountIns, String FlagCountIns) { try{ db.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + "country" + "(" + Iso2Count + ", " + NameCount + ", " + FlagCount + ") " + "VALUES ( " + Iso2CountIns + ", " + NameCountIns +", " + FlagCountIns + " )"); return true; } catch (SQLException e) { return false; } } another question is it better to put the insert and select from each table into a separate class, so i have 1 class for each table or put them all into the DBAdapter class?

  • Why does this program segfault

    - by Leda
    Upon compiling and running this small program to reverse a string, I get a Segmentation Fault before any output occurs. Forgive me if this is an obvious question, I'm still very new to C. #include <stdio.h> int reverse(char string[], int length); int main() { char string[] = "reversed"; printf("String at start of main = %s", string); reverse(string, sizeof(string)); printf("%s\n", string); return 0; } // Reverse string int reverse(char string[], int length) { int i; char reversed[] = {}; int temp; for(i = 0; i < length; ++i) { temp = string[i]; reversed[length - i] = temp; } return 0; }

  • Exercise 7.9 in "How to Think Like a Computer Scientist (python)" measuring occurrences of a character in a string

    - by Abie
    The question is how to write a program that measures how many times a character appears in a string in a generalizable way in python. The code that I wrote: def countLetters(str, ch): count=0 index=0 for ch in str: if ch==str[index]: count=count+1 index=index+1 print count when I use this function, it measures the length of the string instead of how many times the character occurs in the string. What did I do wrong? What is the right way to write this code?

  • how to pass vector of string to foo(char const *const *const)?

    - by user347208
    Hi, This is my first post so please be nice. I searched in this forum and googled but I still can not find the answer. This problem has bothered me for more than a day, so please give me some help. Thank you. I need to pass a vector of string to a library function foo(char const *const *const). I can not pass the &Vec[0] since it's a pointer to a string. Therefore, I have an array and pass the c_str() to that array. The following is my code (aNames is the vector of string): const char* aR[aNames.size()]; std::transform(aNames.begin(), aNames.end(), aR, boost::bind(&std::string::c_str, _1)); foo(aR); However, it seems it causes some undefined behavior: If I run the above code, then the function foo throw some warnings about illegal characters ('èI' blablabla) in aR. If I print aR before function foo like this: std::copy(aR, aR+rowNames.size(), std::ostream_iterator<const char*>(std::cout, "\n")); foo(aR); Then, everything is fine. My questions are: Does the conversion causes undefined behavior? If so, why? What is the correct way to pass vector of string to foo(char const *const *const)? Thank you very much for your help!

  • can constructors actually return Strings?

    - by elwynn
    Hi all, I have a class called ArionFileExtractor in a .java file of the same name. public class ArionFileExtractor { public String ArionFileExtractor (String fName, String startText, String endText) { String afExtract = ""; // Extract string from fName into afExtract in code I won't show here return afExtract; } However, when I try to invoke ArionFileExtractor in another .java file, as follows: String afe = ArionFileExtractor("gibberish.txt", "foo", "/foo"); NetBeans informs me that there are incompatible types and that java.lang.String is required. But I coded ArionFileExtractor to return the standard string type, which is java.lang.string. I am wondering, can my ArionFileExtractor constructor legally return a String? I very much appreciate any tips or pointers on what I'm doing wrong here.

  • Are "strings.xml" string arrays always parsed/deserialized in the same order?

    - by PhilaPhan80
    Can I count on string arrays within the "strings.xml" resource file to be parsed/deserialized in the same order every time? If anyone can cite any documentation that clearly spells out this guarantee, I'd appreciate it. Or, at the very least, offer a significant amount of experience with this topic. Also, is this a best practice or am I missing a simpler solution? Note: This will be a small list, so I'm not looking to implement a more complicated database or custom XML solution unless I absolutely have to. <!--KEYS (ALWAYS CORRESPONDS TO LIST BELOW ??)--> <string-array name="keys"> <item>1</item> <item>2</item> <item>3</item> </string-array> <!--VALUES (ALWAYS CORRESPONDS TO LIST ABOVE ??)--> <string-array name="values"> <item>one</item> <item>two</item> <item>three</item> </string-array>
