• Copying & Pasting Rows Between Grids in SQL Developer

  Apologies for slacking on the blogging front here lately. Still mentally hung over from Open World, and lots of things going on behind the scenes here in Oracle-land. Whilst (love that word) blogging is part of my job, it’s not the ONLY part of my job So a super-quick and dirty ‘trick’ this morning. Copying Query Result Record as New Row in Table Copy and paste is something everyone ‘gets.’ I don’t know we have to thank for that, whether it’s Microsoft or Xerox, but it’s been ingrained in our way of dealing with all things computers. Almost to the detriment of some of our users – they’ll use Copy and Paste when perhaps our Export feature is superior, but I digress. Where it does work just fine is when you want to create a new row in your table that matches a row you have retrieved from an executed query. Just click in the gutter or row number to get the entire row selected Once you have your data selected, do your thing, i.e. ctrl+C or Command/Apple+C or whatever. Now open your view or table editor, go to the data page, and ask for a new row. New record, no data Paste in the data from the clipboard. It’s smart enough to paste the separate values out to the separate columns. The clipboard saves the day, again. If your columns orders are different, just change the order in the grids. If you have extra information, don’t copy the entire row. I know, I know – Jeff this is too simple, why are you wasting our time here? It seems intuitive, but how many of you actually tried this before reading it just now? I seem to get more positive feedback from the very basic user interface 101 tips than the esoteric click-click-click-ctrl-shift-click tricks I prefer to post. Lots of interesting stuff on tap, so stay tuned!

• Can't connect disk management to remote XP PC from local Win7/Server 2008

  Scenario as follows: support technicians using Windows 7 PC's or Server 2008 terminal server are unable to connect Disk Management MMC snap in to a remote PC when the remote device is running Windows XP. "Disk management could not start Virtual Disk Service (VDS) on ". This can happen if the remote computer does not support VDS, or if a connection cannot be established because it was blocked by Windows Firewall." Connecting from another XP machine or 2003 server to the same XP machines works fine. Even connecting from XP/2003 to the Win7 or 2008 server works fine. Windows firewall disabled on all devices. I'm guessing this is something to do with the fact that XP uses logical disk manager service whereas Win7/2008 use Virtual disk manager service. But there doesn't seem to be any way to use logical disk manager service from 7/2008 to connect to XP...

• Mysql server won't start - no logs

  After a restart, mysql won't start. sudo service mysql start gives start: Job failed to start and the logs are empty, so I have no idea where to start. I'm pretty sure permissions problems are taken care of. • MySQL taking a long time to start

  I'm running Windows Server 2008 with MySQL installed and every time I reboot the server the MySQL Service doesn't start right away. A look into the Windows Eventlog shows that the MySQL Service was hung at startup. Looking at the Services.msc console shows the service state at Starting... Eventually, like 10 minutes, the MySQL Service actually finishes the startup process and the database becomes available for my Wordpress server... I looked at the MySQL .err files and didn't find anything that would indicate a delay in the statup process... Can anyone suggest a way to determine what is causing the delay, and more importantly, how to prevent the delay in the MySQL Startup? UPDATE: Here is the .err log contents from the shutdown to the startup complete. • Configure WebCenter PS5 with WebCenter Content - Bad Example

  I opened JDeveloper, created a content repository connection with all the required fields. While testing the connection, the connection became successful. But while navigating to the Webcenter Content Connection, I am ( Always use past tense ) getting the following error. Notice the inconsistency in the image resolutions SEVERE: Could not list contents of folder with ID = dCollectionID:-1oracle.stellent.ridc.protocol.ServiceException: No service defined for COLLECTION_DISPLAY. To solve the issue, please find the following the steps in Webcenter Content. 1. Login into webcenter content : https://<hostname>:<port number>/cs 2. Click on 'Administration' and select 'Admin Server' 3. This will open a new window in browser, please select 'Component Manager'. 4. In the right side window, please click on 'Advanced component manager' 5. We can see all the enabled and disabled features. The main problem for this error is folders_g is not enabled and Framework folders might have enabled. But for creating a connection with webcenter portal framework or with webcenter spaces, we need folders_g, then only we will get Contribution folder. 6. come to the enabled feature session, select Framework folders and disable it. 7. Come to the disabled feature session, select folders_g in the list and enable it. 8. Restart the Webcenter content node. 9. Login into webcenter content system, go to 'Browse Content' menu. If we are able to see 'Contribution Folder' the problem is solved. ( Avoid dubious sentences ) We can configure webcenter content with Webcenter portal framework or with webcenter spaces.

• Ed Burns' Servlet 4/HTTP 2 Session at JavaOne 2014

  For the Java EE track at JavaOne 2014 we are highlighting some key sessions and speakers to better inform you of what you can expect, right up until the start of the conference. To this end we recently interviewed Ed Burns. Ed is a veteran of Sun and now Oracle. He has been and is instrumental in pushing the JSF ecosystem forward as specification lead. Besides his specification lead work Ed is well regarded as an author and speaker on his own right. In addition to carrying the JSF torch Ed will be co-leading the key Servlet 4 specification for Java EE 8, along with Servlet specification guru Shing Wai Chan. The primary goal of Servlet 4 is to enable the fundamentally important changes in HTTP 2 for the entire server-side Java ecosystem. • How to set up a serial connection to a Windows 7 computer

  I need to set up a "dial in" connection to a Windows 7 (Ultimate) computer via a serial null-modem cable to be able to connect from a Windows XP client to that computer and exchange data over IP. Question 1: How do I do that? I did neither find the information via Google nor in the MSDN. Seems like no one tried ever before... ;-) I already managed to install a legacy modem device called "Communications cable between two computers" and found the menu entry "New Incoming Connection..." in Network and Internet Network Connections. When I finish this wizard I get the message that the "Routing and Remote Access service" cannot be started. In the event viewer I see the following error messages: "The currently configured authentication provider failed to load and initialize successfully. The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found." (Source: RemoteAccess, EventID: 20152) "The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found." (Source: Service Control Manager, EventID: 7024) The Windows 7 installation is "naked", i.e. no additional software or services are installed. Question 2: Am I on the right path to set up the connection? Question 3: How can I get the Routing and Remote Access service running?

• Apache no longer starts at Windows boot up

  I have Apache installed as part of XAMPP - local test server. It is configured as a Windows (XP) Service. Startup type is "Automatic". For a long time now it has always started when Windows boots up, but recently this has stopped happening. I now need to start it manually via the XAMPP Control Panel - at which point it appears to start up perfectly OK. The only recent updates to the machine (that I recall) are Windows Updates - none of which appear to have "known issues" that relate to this. And updates to Google Chrome. Any ideas what could prevent Apache from starting automatically at Windows (XP) boot up? EDIT#1 There are 2 related Errors in my system event log regarding the Service Control Manager: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Apache2.2 service to connect. The Apache2.2 service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. When I manually start the Apache server after boot up there are 2 "information" events stating that it was "sent a start control" and that it "entered the running state". Although I notice it appears to take 19 seconds between the start control being sent and entering a running state - according to the event log. So, maybe 30 seconds during boot up isn't long enough (anymore) for Apache to start??

  I run a Sun Ray/VDI demo environment internally within the company - and because it's not a public service, I need to tell my Sun Rays to connect to it directly so that I don't get redirected to the corporate servers. To get any new Sun Ray to connect to *my* setup I usually pull out my laptop so that the Sun Ray can load the new version of the F/W along with the permission to pull up the management GUI via STOP-S.But there is a better way if you have another Sun Ray server handy:1) allow your Sun Ray to connect to the default corporate server2) log in to a "regular" session, that is a Solaris or Linux desktop on the Sun Ray server itself3) in a terminal, utswitch to your server (/opt/SUNWut/bin/utswitch -h myserver)4) again, login to a regular session there5) in a terminal,  issue "/opt/SUNWut/lib/utload -S myserver -w"6) Watch your firmware load and wait7) the Sun Ray will reboot and connect to the first server again. Repeat steps 2-48) issue "/opt/SUNWut/lib/utload -S myserver -f SunRay.enableGUI"9) Press STOP-S and be merryNOTE: I'm sure there is even yet a better way - this is totally unsupported, most likely a figment of my imagination.   I'm having a problem with SQL Server 2005 where the SQL Server Agent suddenly refuses to start. If I attempt to start it through Services, I get the error "SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer started and then stopped." In the Application log, I have the following entry: Event Type: Error Event Source: SQLSERVERAGENT Event Category: Service Control Event ID: 103 Date: 5/20/2010 Time: 11:07:07 AM User: N/A Computer: SHAREPOINT Description: SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Unable to connect to server 'SHAREPOINT'; SQLServerAgent cannot start). This database has been running fine for four months. It contains a SharePoint configuration database, which two days ago stopped working, throwing me a message that the configuration database cannot be reached. It was then that I realized the SQL Server Agent was not running, and I have been unable to restart it. I have tried running it with both the local system account and the network service account, with the same results. So far, I have tried: Granting the administrators group, network service, and SharePoint SQL Server Agent account public and sysadmin roles on the database. Granting the administrators group, network service, and SharePoint SQL Server Agent account full permissions to the entire MSSQL directory and all files within. I still have no joy.

  Since a lot of components exist to access or administer Essbase, there are also a couple of client tools available. End users typically use the Excel Add-In or SmartView nowadays. While the Excel Add-In talks to the Essbase server directly using various ports, SmartView connects to Essbase through Provider Services using HTTP protocol. The ability to communicate using a single port is one of the major advantages from SmartView over Excel Add-In. If you consider using Excel Add-In going forward, please make sure you are aware of the Statement of Direction for this component. The Administration Services Console, Integration Services Console and Essbase Studio are clients, which are mainly used by Essbase administrators or application designers. While Integration Services and Essbase Studio are used to setup Essbase applications by loading metadata or simply for data loads, Administration Services are utilized for all kind of Essbase administration. All clients are using only one or two ports to talk to their server counterparts, which makes them work through firewalls easily. Although clients for Provider Services (SmartView) and Administration Services (Administration Services Console) are only using a single port to communicate to their backend services, the backend services itself need the Essbase configured port range to talk to the Essbase server. Any communication to repository databases is done using JDBC connections. Essbase Studio and Integration Services are using different technologies to talk to the Essbase server, Integration Services uses CAPI, Essbase Studio uses JAPI. However, both are using the configured port range on the Essbase server to talk to Essbase. Connections to data sources are either based on ODBC (Integration Service, Essbase) or JDBC (Essbase Studio). As for all other components discussed previously, when setting up firewall rules, be aware of the fact that all services may need to talk to the external authentication sources, this is not only needed for Shared Services.

• How can I recover from SharePoint configuration errors after promoting the server to a Domain Controller?

  I have a SharePoint 2010 VM setup in VirtualBox and I was using local machine accounts to handle security on the server. While preparing for a demo it came time to have some meaningful users on my VM image. I followed some docs on promoting my server to a Domain Controller in a new forrest. So now I have [MachineName].SPDEMO.CONTOSO.com and I can add users as needed. However, when I try to connect to my SharePoint sites I am getting a white screen with the error: "Cannot connect to the configuration database" I changed the pool identity account of each of my IIS app pools to the new Administrator account and started the services successfully but I can't get the SQL services to start up. When I try to start them I get the following error: Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 17058. In the event log I see the following error: The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error %%17058. Can I recover from this or should I roll back or just uninstall the Domain Controller role. I'd like to keep the server as a standalone DC so I can do some user profile creation/management but I need the SharePoint bits to work as well.

  How do you find the cause of httpd errors in Fedora 16? The new systemctl command in Fedora 16 seems to horribly obscure any useful logging info. Where's the actual error?   Having troubles getting VSFTPD running on Fedora 14. Here is what I have done so far, please let me know if I am missing something. When I try to connect through FTP it says connection time out.   Win2003 Ports 20 & 21 are open IIS6 - Direct Metabase Edit enabled Configured FTP service passive range to 5500-5550 5500-5550 added to windows firewall iisreset and double checked by restarting ftp service nothing has changed, when I connect and enter passive, it still hangs when ever I try to LIST or transfer files. Now I can see from microsooft documentation that on newer windows releases, additional steps such as these are suggested, but they dont work on 2003... netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”FTP Service” action=allow service=ftpsvc protocol=TCP dir=in netsh advfirewall set global StatefulFTP disable is there anything I am missing, what is this StatefulFTP malarkey at the end EDIT I can connect and transfer binary files using WinSCP client - Therefore the problem must be with my ftp commands no? Can anyone see anything wrong with my windows ftp client example? why would it hang on ls, i tried QUOTE LIST as well, and that just hangs, and the windows ftp client doesnt work in active, it hangs if I try to go "binary" then put - This worked before I added 5500-5550 on the router. I have since added this range to the router but no difference to the windows ftp client.

Any domain account that logs on to my 2008 machine gets a +- 20 second waiting time on "user profile service" I am using roaming profiles, they are around 8mb in size, and most folders are already redirected to a network share. event log registers no errors, there is more than 1 network card installed, but I have the correct card listed as "primary" Is there any way to increase verbosity of logging on specifically the "user profile service" ? • Script For Detecting Availability of XMLHttp in Internet Explorer

  Having the XMLHttpRequest API available is key to any ADF Faces Rich Client application. Unfortunately, it is possible for users to switch off this option in Internet Explorer as a Security setting. Without XMLHttpRequest available, your ADF Faces application will simply not work correctly, but rather than giving the user a bad user experience wouldn't it be nicer to tell them that they need to make some changes in order to use the application?  Thanks to Blake Sullivan in the ADF Faces team we now have a little script that can do just this. The script is available from https://samplecode.oracle.com here - The attached file browserCheck.js is what you'll need to add to your project.The best way to use this script is to make changes to whatever template you are using for the entry points to your application. If you're not currently using template then you'll have to make the same change in each of your JSPX pages. Save the browserCheck.js file into a /js/ directory under your HTML root within your UI project (e.g. ViewController)In the template or page, select the <af:document> object in the Structure window. From the right mouse (context) menu choose Facet and select the metaContainer facet.Switch to the source code view and locate the metaContainer facet. Then insert the following lines (I've included the facet tag for clarity but you'll already have that):      <f:facet name="metaContainer">        <af:resource type="javascript"                      source="/js/browserCheck.js"/>        <af:resource type="javascript">           xmlhttpNativeCheck(                     "help/howToConfigureYourBrowser.html");        </af:resource>      </f:facet>Note that the argument to the xmlhttpNativeCheck function is a page that you want to show to the user if they need to change their browser configuration. So build this page in the appropriate place as well. • Sharepoint Server 2007 generates event log entry every 5 minutes - "The SSP Timer Job Distribution L

  I get the following error logged into the Event Log every 5 minutes: The SSP Timer Job Distribution List Import Job was not run. Reason: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer In addition, OWSTimer.exe periodically gets into a state where its consuming almost all the CPU and only killing the process or restarting the Sharepoint services fixes it (although I'm not sure if this is a related or seperate issue). I have tried the following (based on various suggestions floating around the web), all to no avail: iisreset (no affect) Added the Sharepoint and Sharepoint Search service accounts to Log on as a batch job and Log on as a service policies in the Group Policies for the domain. I went into the Local Computer Policy on the Sharepoint server and verified that those policies had actually been applied Verified that the Sharepoint and Sharepoint Search service accounts are both in the WSS_WPG group Verified in dcomcnfg that the WSS_WPG group (and indeed the Sharepoint and Sharepoint search service accounts) has local activation rights for SPSearch. Any more suggestions would be valued. Thanks
