  • Sanitizing DB inputs with XSLT

    - by azathoth
    Hello I've been looking for a method to strip my XML content of apostrophes (') like: <name> Jim O'Connor</name> since my DBMS is complaining of receiving those. By looking at the example described here, that is supposed to replace ' with '', I constructed the following script: <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes" /> <xsl:template match="node()|@*"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="node()|@*" /> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> <xsl:template name="sqlApostrophe"> <xsl:param name="string" /> <xsl:variable name="apostrophe">'</xsl:variable> <xsl:choose> <xsl:when test="contains($string,$apostrophe)"> <xsl:value-of select="concat(substring-before($string,$apostrophe), $apostrophe,$apostrophe)" disable-output-escaping="yes" /> <xsl:call-template name="sqlApostrophe"> <xsl:with-param name="string" select="substring-after($string,$apostrophe)" /> </xsl:call-template> </xsl:when> <xsl:otherwise> <xsl:value-of select="$string" disable-output-escaping="yes" /> </xsl:otherwise> </xsl:choose> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="node()|@*"> <xsl:apply-templates name="sqlApostrophe"/> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> However, the processor isn't accepting it. What am I missing here? Is there a better way to get rid of the apostrophes? Perhaps another approach for sanitizing DB inputs by using XSLT? Thanks for your help

  • SQLServer using too much memory

    - by Israel Pereira Valverde
    I have installed on my desktop machine (with windows 7) SQLServer 2008 R2 Express. I have only one local server running (./SQLEXPRESS) but the sqlserver process is taking ALL the RAM possible. With an machine with 3GB of RAM the things starts to get slow, so I limited the maximun amount of RAM in the server, and now, constantly the SQLServer give some error messages that the memory is not enought. It's using 1GB of RAM with only one LOCAL server with 2 databases completely empty, how 1GB of RAM isn't enought ? When the process start it's using an really acceptable amount of memory (around 80MB) but it's keep increasing until it reaches the maximun defined and start to complain about having not enought memory available. In that point I have to restart the server to use it again. I have read about an hotfix to solve one of the errors I got from sqlserver: There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query But it's already installed on my sqlserver. Why it's using so much memory?

  • Insert Stored Procedure does not Create Database Record

    - by SidC
    Hello All, I have the following stored procedure: ALTER PROCEDURE Pro_members_Insert @id int outPut, @LoginName nvarchar(50), @Password nvarchar(15), @FirstName nvarchar(100), @LastName nvarchar(100), @signupDate smalldatetime, @Company nvarchar(100), @Phone nvarchar(50), @Email nvarchar(150), @Address nvarchar(255), @PostalCode nvarchar(10), @State_Province nvarchar(100), @City nvarchar(50), @countryCode nvarchar(4), @active bit, @activationCode nvarchar(50) AS declare @usName as varchar(50) set @usName='' select @usName=isnull(LoginName,'') from members where LoginName=@LoginName if @usName <> '' begin set @ID=-3 RAISERROR('User Already exist.', 16, 1) return end set @usName='' select @usName=isnull(email,'') from members where Email=@Email if @usName <> '' begin set @ID=-4 RAISERROR('Email Already exist.', 16, 1) return end declare @MemID as int select @memID=isnull(max(ID),0)+1 from members INSERT INTO members ( id, LoginName, Password, FirstName, LastName, signupDate, Company, Phone, Email, Address, PostalCode, State_Province, City, countryCode, active,activationCode) VALUES ( @Memid, @LoginName, @Password, @FirstName, @LastName, @signupDate, @Company, @Phone, @Email, @Address, @PostalCode, @State_Province, @City, @countryCode, @active,@activationCode) if @@error <> 0 set @ID=-1 else set @id=@memID Note that I've "inherited" this sproc and the database. I am trying to insert a new record from my signup.aspx page. My SQLDataSource is as follows: <asp:SqlDataSource runat="server" ID="dsAddMember" ConnectionString="rmsdbuser" InsertCommandType="StoredProcedure" InsertCommand="Pro_members_Insert" ProviderName="System.Data.SqlClient"> The click handler for btnSave is as follows: Protected Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click Try dsAddMember.DataBind() Catch ex As Exception End Try End Sub When I run this page, signup.aspx, provide required fields and click submit, the page simply reloads and the database table does not reflect the newly-inserted record. Questions: 1. How do I catch the error messages that might be returned from the sproc? 2. Please advise how to change signup.aspx so that the insert occurs. Thanks, Sid

  • Running a stored procedure in a SqlDataSource on button click

    - by Gapton
    I am building a C# ASP.NET page where I want to call a stored procedure in a database. I have setup a SqlDataSource which points to the stored procedure. Parameters are obtained from the Web's control directly (TextBox) I have a button, when the user clicks it it should run the stored procedure, so I was going to add code like this : mySqlDataSource.run() or mySqlDataSource.exec() or mySqlDataSource.storedProcedure() but of course none of these methods exist. How do I initial the stored procedure? and how do I get the value returned by the stored procedure please? Thank you!

  • Combining 2 Linq queries into 1

    Given the following information, how can I combine these 2 linq queries into 1. Having a bit of trouble with the join statement. 'projectDetails' is just a list of ProjectDetails ProjectDetails (1 to many) PCardAuthorizations ProjectDetails (1 to many) ExpenditureDetails Notice I am grouping by the same information and selecting the same type of information var pCardAccount = from c in PCardAuthorizations where projectDetails.Contains(c.ProjectDetail) && c.RequestStatusId == 2 group c by new { c.ProjectDetail, c.ProgramFund } into g select new { Key = g.Key, Sum = g.Sum(x => x.Amount) }; var expenditures = from d in ExpenditureDetails where projectDetails.Contains(d.ProjectDetails) && d.Expenditures.ExpenditureTypeEnum == 0 group d by new { d.ProjectDetails, d.ProgramFunds } into g select new { Key = g.Key, Sum = g.Sum(y => y.ExpenditureAmounts.FirstOrDefault(a => a.IsCurrent && !a.RequiresAudit).CommittedMonthlyRecords.ProjectedEac) };

  • NHibernate Many-to-Many Mapping not working

    - by ClutchDude
    I have a Nhibernate mapping file for a simple user/role mapping. Here are the mapping files: Users.hbm.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="Sample.Persistence" namespace="Sample.Persistence.Model"> <class name="User" table="Users"> <id name="UserKey"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <property name="UserName" column="UserName" type="String" /> <property name="Password" column="Password" type="Byte[]" /> <property name="FirstName" column="FirstName" type="String" /> <property name="LastName" column="LastName" type="String" /> <property name="Email" column="Email" type="String" /> <property name="Active" column="Active" type="Boolean" /> <property name="Locked" column="Locked" type="Boolean" /> <property name="LoginFailures" column="LoginFailures" type="int" /> <property name="LockoutDate" column="LockoutDate" type="DateTime" generated="insert" /> <property name="Expired" column="Expired" type="Boolean" generated="insert"/> <set name="Roles" table="UsersRolesBridge" lazy="false"> <key column="UserKey" /> <many-to-many class="Role" not-found="exception" column="RoleKey" /> </set> </class> </hibernate-mapping> Role.hbm.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="Sample.Persistence" namespace="Sample.Persistence.Model"> <class name="Role" table="Roles"> <id name="RoleKey"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <property name="Name" column="Name" type="String" /> <set name="Users" inverse="true" atable="UsersRolesBridge" lazy="false" > <key column="RoleKey" /> <many-to-many class="User" column="UserKey" /> </set> </class> </hibernate-mapping> I am able to retrieve roles for each user via NHibernate but when I go to save a new object, the roles are not saved in the Bridge table. The user is created and insert with no issues. I've checked that the Role collection, a field on the user, is being populated with the proper rolekey before the Session.Save() is called. There is no exception thrown as well.

  • Helping linqtosql datacontext use implicit conversion between varchar column in the database and tab

    - by user213256
    I am creating an mssql database table, "Orders", that will contain a varchar(50) field, "Value" containing a string that represents a slightly complex data type, "OrderValue". I am using a linqtosql datacontext class, which automatically types the "Value" column as a string. I gave the "OrderValue" class implicit conversion operators to and from a string, so I can easily use implicit conversion with the linqtosql classes like this: // get an order from the orders table MyDataContext db = new MyDataContext(); Order order = db.Orders(o => o.id == 1); // use implicit converstion to turn the string representation of the order // value into the complex data type. OrderValue value = order.Value; // adjust one of the fields in the complex data type value.Shipping += 10; // use implicit conversion to store the string representation of the complex // data type back in the linqtosql order object order.Value = value; // save changes db.SubmitChanges(); However, I would really like to be able to tell the linqtosql class to type this field as "OrderValue" rather than as "string". Then I would be able to avoid complex code and re-write the above as: // get an order from the orders table MyDataContext db = new MyDataContext(); Order order = db.Orders(o => o.id == 1); // The Value field is already typed as the "OrderValue" type rather than as string. // When a string value was read from the database table, it was implicity converted // to "OrderValue" type. order.Value.Shipping += 10; // save changes db.SubmitChanges(); In order to achieve this desired goal, I looked at the datacontext designer and selected the "Value" field of the "Order" table. Then, in properties, I changed "Type" to "global::MyApplication.OrderValue". The "Server Data Type" property was left as "VarChar(50) NOT NULL" The project built without errors. However, when reading from the database table, I was presented with the following error message: Could not convert from type 'System.String' to type 'MyApplication.OrderValue'. at System.Data.Linq.DBConvert.ChangeType(Object value, Type type) at Read_Order(ObjectMaterializer1 ) at System.Data.Linq.SqlClient.ObjectReaderCompiler.ObjectReader2.MoveNext() at System.Linq.Buffer1..ctor(IEnumerable1 source) at System.Linq.Enumerable.ToArray[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at Example.OrdersProvider.GetOrders() at ... etc From the stack trace, I believe this error is happening while reading the data from the table. When presented with converting a string to my custom data type, even though the implicit conversion operators are present, the DBConvert class gets confused and throws an error. Is there anything I can do to help it not get confused and do the implicit conversion? Thanks in advance, and apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum. cheers / Ben

  • Is it a Good Practice to Add two Conditions when using a JOIN keyword?

    - by Raúl Roa
    I'd like to know if having to conditionals when using a JOIN keyword is a good practice. I'm trying to filter this resultset by date but I'm unable to get all the branches listed even if there's no expense or income for a date using a WHERE clause. Is there a better way of doing this, if so how? SELECT Branches.Name ,SUM(Expenses.Amount) AS Expenses ,SUM(Incomes.Amount) AS Incomes FROM Branches LEFT JOIN Expenses ON Branches.Id = Expenses.BranchId AND Expenses.Date = '3/11/2010' LEFT JOIN Incomes ON Branches.Id = Incomes.BranchId AND Incomes.Date = '3/11/2010' GROUP BY Branches.Name

What's wrong with the queries?

  • When should we use Views, Temporary Tables and Direct Queries ? What are the Performance issues in a

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I want to know the performance of using Views, Temp Tables and Direct Queries Usage in a Stored Procedure. I have a table that gets created every time when a trigger gets fired. I know this trigger will be fired very rare and only once at the time of setup. Now I have to use that created table from triggers at many places for fetching data and I confirms it that no one make any changes in that table. i.e ReadOnly Table. I have to use this tables data along with multiple tables to join and fetch result for further queries say select * from triggertable By Using temp table select ... into #tx from triggertable join t2 join t3 and so on select a,b, c from #tx --do something select d,e,f from #tx ---do somethign --and so on --around 6-7 queries in a row in a stored procedure. By Using Views create view viewname ( select ... from triggertable join t2 join t3 and so on ) select a,b, c from viewname --do something select d,e,f from viewname ---do somethign --and so on --around 6-7 queries in a row in a stored procedure. This View can be used in other places as well. So I will be creating at database rather than at sp By Using Direct Query select a,b, c from select ... into #tx from triggertable join t2 join t3 join ... --do something select a,b, c from select ... into #tx from triggertable join t2 join t3 join ... --do something . . --and so on --around 6-7 queries in a row in a stored procedure. Now I can create a view/temporary table/ directly query usage in all upcoming queries. What would be the best to use in this case.

  • selecting a range of verses from a database

    - by Noam Smadja
    i have a database, with verses from the bible, with those fields: book (book number), chapter (chapter number), verse (verse number), text (the verse) example: 1 1 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. first 1 is for Genesis, second 1 is for chapter 1, third 1 is for verse 1 user gives me something like 1 1:1 - 1 1:4 which means he wants to show Genesis 1:1-4. what i want to do is something like SELECT book*100000+chapter*1000+verse AS index FROM bible WHERE index >= 1001001 AND index <=1001004 or WHERE book*100000+chapter*1000+verse >= 1001001 AND book*100000+chapter*1000+verse <= 1001004

  • Entity Framework autoincrement key

    - by Tommy Ong
    I'm facing an issue of duplicated incremental field on a concurrency scenario. I'm using EF as the ORM tool, attempting to insert an entity with a field that acts as a incremental INT field. Basically this field is called "SequenceNumber", where each new record before insert, will read the database using MAX to get the last SequenceNumber, append +1 to it, and saves the changes. Between the getting of last SequenceNumber and Saving, that's where the concurrency is happening. I'm not using ID for SequenceNumber as it is not a unique constraint, and may reset on certain conditions such as monthly, yearly, etc. InvoiceNumber | SequenceNumber | DateCreated INV00001_08_14 | 1 | 25/08/2014 INV00001_08_14 | 1 | 25/08/2014 <= (concurrency is creating two SeqNo 1) INV00002_08_14 | 2 | 25/08/2014 INV00003_08_14 | 3 | 26/08/2014 INV00004_08_14 | 4 | 27/08/2014 INV00005_08_14 | 5 | 29/08/2014 INV00001_09_14 | 1 | 01/09/2014 <= (sequence number reset) Invoice number is formatted based on the SequenceNumber. After some research I've ended up with these possible solutions, but wanna know the best practice 1) Optimistic Concurrency, locking the table from any reads until the current transaction is completed (not fancy of this idea as I guess performance will be of a great impact?) 2) Create a Stored Procedure solely for this purpose, does select and insert on a single statement as such concurrency is at minimum (would prefer a EF based approach if possible)

  • SQL trigger to delete rows from database

    - by wpearse
    I have an industrial system that logs alarms to a remotely hosted MySQL database. The industrial system inserts a new row whenever a property of the alarm changes (such as the time the alarm was activated, acknowledged or switched off) into a table named 'alarms'. I don't want multiple records for each alarm, so I have set up two database triggers. The first trigger mirrors each new record to a second table, creating/updating rows as required: CREATE TRIGGER `mirror_alarms` BEFORE INSERT ON `alarms` FOR EACH ROW INSERT INTO `alarm_display` (Tag,...,OffTime) VALUES (new.Tag,...,new.OffTime) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE OnDate=new.OnDate,...,OffTime=new.OffTime The second trigger should execute after the first and (ideally) delete all rows from the alarms table. (I used the Tag property of the alarm because the Tag property never changes, although I suspect I could just use a 'DELETE FROM alarms WHERE 1' statement to the same effect). CREATE TRIGGER `remove_alarms` AFTER INSERT ON `alarms` FOR EACH ROW DELETE FROM alarms WHERE Tag=new.Tag My problem is that the second trigger doesn't appear to run, or if it does, the second trigger doesn't delete any rows from the database. So here's the question: why does my second trigger not do what I expect it to do?

  • Table clusters in SQLServer

    - by Bruno Martinez
    In Oracle, a table cluster is a group of tables that share common columns and store related data in the same blocks. When tables are clustered, a single data block can contain rows from multiple tables. For example, a block can store rows from both the employees and departments tables rather than from only a single table: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10713/tablecls.htm#i25478 Can this be done in SQLServer?

  • MySQL Count If using 4 tables or Perl

    - by user1726133
    Hi I have a relatively convoluted query that relies on 4 different tables, unfortunately I do not have control of this data, but I do have to query it. I ran this simpler query and it works using just table 1 and table 2 SELECT actor, receiver, count(IF(t2.group1 = "anxiety behavior", 1,0)) AS 'anxiety' FROM ethogram_edited_obs_behaviors t1 JOIN ethogram_behaviors t2 on t1.behavior = t2.behavior_code GROUP BY actor; Below are the 4 tables I need and the query I tried that didn't work Table 1 | Table 2 | Table 3 | Table 4 Actor | Behavior | Behavior | type of Behavior | subject | sex | subject |subject_code er frown | frown anxiety behavior | Eric M | Eric | er Here is the query that is failing SELECT actor, count(IF(t2.group1 = "anxiety behavior", 1,0) AND(t3.sex = "M", 1,0)) AS 'anxiety', FROM ethogram_edited_obs_behaviors t1 JOIN ethogram_behaviors t2 on t1.behavior = t2.behavior_code JOIN subject_code t3 on t1.actor = t3.behavior_code1 JOIN subjects t4 on t3.subject = t4.yerkes_code GROUP BY actor; Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks :) P.S. if this is easier to do in Perl tips also much appreciated

  • Best way to get a reasonably random key for MYSQL records

    - by Steve N
    Hi there, I need to generate a reasonably random unique key for a table. It should be something like a GUID for MYSQL. I've tried UUID, but it looks like only the first few characters are actually random- the rest are the same every time I insert them. Essentially, it is desirable for this key field to be very difficult to guess, even if you already have one known value in the column. What is the best way to do this, and how should I set up the field data type to store the value efficiently? Thank you, Steve

  • Left Join works with table but fails with query

    - by Frank Martin
    The following left join query in MS Access 2007 SELECT Table1.Field_A, Table1.Field_B, qry_Table2_Combined.Field_A, qry_Table2_Combined.Field_B, qry_Table2_Combined.Combined_Field FROM Table1 LEFT JOIN qry_Table2_Combined ON (Table1.Field_A = qry_Table2_Combined.Field_A) AND (Table1.Field_B = qry_Table2_Combined.Field_B); is expected by me to return this result: +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |Field_A | Field_B | Field_A | Field_B | Combined_Field | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |1 | | | | | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |1 | | | | | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |2 |1 |2 |1 |John, Doe | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |2 |2 | | | | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ [Table1] has 4 records, [qry_Table2_Combined] has 1 record. But it gives me this: +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |Field_A | Field_B | Field_A | Field_B | Combined_Field | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |2 |1 |2 |1 |John, Doe | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ |2 |2 |2 | |, | +--------+---------+---------+---------+----------------+ Really weird is that the [Combined_Field] has a comma in the second row. I use a comma to concatenate two fields in [qry_Table2_Combined]. If the left join query uses a table created from the query [qry_Table2_Combined] it works as expected. Why does this left join query not give the same result for a query and a table? And how can i get the right results using a query in the left join?
