  i have class Profile has_many :favorite_books, :dependent => :destroy has_many :favorite_quotes, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :favorite_books, :allow_destroy => true accepts_nested_attributes_for :favorite_quotes, :allow_destroy => true end I have a dynamic form where you press '+' to add new textareas for creating new favorites. What i want to do is ignore the blank ones, I find this harder to sort through in the update controller than a non nested attribute. What i have temporarily is a hack in the after_save callback deleting the empty records. Whats the most rails way to ignore these blank objects? I dont want validation and errors, just a silent deletion/ignore.

• A cross between std::multimap and std::vector?

  I'm looking for a STL container that works like std::multimap, but has constant access time to random n-th element. I need this because I have such structure in memory that is std::multimap for many reasons, but items stored in it have to be presented to the user in a listbox. Since amount of data is huge, I'm using list box with virtual items (i.e. list control polls for value at line X). As a workaround I'm currently using additional std::vector to store "indexes" into std::map, and I fill it like this: std::vector<MMap::data_type&> vec; for (MMap::iterator it = mmap.begin(); it != mmap.end(); ++it) vec.push_back((*it).second); But this is not very elegant solution. Is there some such containter?

We can do the same using methods. Whats special thing we got using named_scope.

• Best way to reuse a footer menu in Android

  I'm trying to implement a menu in the footer of an app, similar to i.e. the Engadget app. As I understand, getting a standard TabLayout to work in this way is not trivial (if at all possible?). As I see quite a few apps using this interface paradigm, I would assume there is a clever way of doing it. Currently, I'm defining the layout by adding an include line at the end of every layout. This works fine as far as rendering is concerned, but I have to add the onClickListeners to each activity. can we define clickListener through XML? To sum up my question: What is the best way to implement a shared footer navigation accross several Activities?

  Hello, I'm attempting to write a script to generate SSH Identity key pairs for me. from M2Crypto import RSA key = RSA.gen_key(1024, 65337) key.save_key("/tmp/my.key", cipher=None) The file /tmp/my.key looks great now. By running ssh-keygen -y -f /tmp/my.key > /tmp/my.key.pub I can extract the public key. My question is how can I extract the public key from python? • How can I extract URLs from plain text with Perl?

  I need the Perl regex to parse plain text input and convert all links to valid HTML HREF links. I've tried 10 different versions I found on the web but none of them seen to work correctly. I also tested other solutions posted on StackOverflow, none of which seem to work. The correct solution should be able to find any URL in the plain text input and convert it to: <a href="$1">$1</a> Some cases other regular expressions I tried didn't handle correctly include: URLs at the end of a line which are followed by returns URLs that included question marks URLs that start with 'https' I'm hoping that another Perl guy out there will already have a regular expression they are using for this that they can share. • How can I use a Shader in XNA to color single pixels?

  I have a standard 800x600 window in my XNA project. My goal is to color each individual pixel based on a rectangle array which holds boolean values. Currently I am using a 1x1 Texture and drawing each sprite in my array. I am very new to XNA and come from a GDI background, so I am doing what I would have done in GDI, but it doesn't scale very well. I have been told in another question to use a Shader, but after much research, I still haven't been able to find out how to accomplish this goal. My application loops through the X and Y coordinates of my rectangular array, does calculations based on each value, and reassigns/moves the array around. At the end, I need to update my "Canvas" with the new values. A smaller sample of my array would look like: 0,0,0,0,0,0,0 0,0,0,0,0,0,0 0,0,0,0,0,0,0 1,1,1,1,1,1,1 1,1,1,1,1,1,1 How can I use a shader to color each pixel?

  I have eventually managed to fiddle HyperJAXB so that when XSD has complexType A and this has an IDREF to complexType B, then HyperJAXB will generate @OneToOne JPA annotations between the the two generated entities. However now I'm facing another problem: the XSD has complex type X that can IDREF to either complex type Y or complex type Z. In the end, I need instance of complex type X contain reference to either instance of class Y or class Z. Do you have any wild ideas how can this be done without manual alterations to the generated classes? And at the same time to make sure these entities are marshalled to a correct XML? How about using the JAXB plugin that allows generating classes so that they implement a particular interface? Could that lead anywhere?

• Automatic counter in Ruby for each?

  I know you Ruby people will laugh at my bad Ruby code: i=0 for blah in blahs puts i.to_s + " " + blah i+=1 end I want to use a for-each and a counter... is there a better way to do it? Note: I don't know if blahs is an array or a hash, but having to do blahs[i] wouldn't make it much sexier. Also I'd like to know how to write i++ in Ruby. Edit: Technically, Matt's and Squeegy's answer came in first, but I'm giving best answer to paradoja so spread around the points a bit on SO. Also his answer had the note about versions, which is still relevant (as long as my Ubuntu 8.04 is using Ruby 1.8.6). Edit: Should've used puts "#{i} #{blah}" which is a lot more succinct.

• Developer workload management software: recommendations?

  In my place, we use two issue tracking tools, one for production bugs, and another for issues on projects in development. These tools are good for managers. However, at an individual level, other work can also arrive through desk visits, email, or the phone, and those allocating the work aren't always interested in issue tracking systems. I've recently rolled off an 18-month project where I got into a cycle of overtime, and I found that I didn't always have good visibility of all work assigned to me. As a result, I was always very busy, and felt constantly laden down with work, but didn't have the clear data to show my manager (or, ironically, the time to stop and gather the information!). A handwritten list, updated at the end of each day, is a good start, but can anyone recommend better tools to help me get a clear view of my own workload? Ideally, I'm thinking of software tools for developers, which could incorporate estimates, but all suggestions welcome. Thanks, Paddy

• Is there any way, short of "copy and paste inheritence" to share a .net class with a Silverlight app

  I have a project in two parts: a Silverlight front end and a WCF duplex service. Ideally, I would like to pass a message of a custom type (call it TradeOffer) from the WCF service to be consumed by the Silverlight application. When I try to, I get an error that indicates I can't pass an object of an unknown type across the wire like that and that, maybe, I could do so if I used the InternalsVisibleTo attribute on the server component. I'm not sure if that would work in this environment and know it would be messy in development. I originally put the message definition in a library to be used by both the service and the client, but couldn't add a reference to the library from the Silverlight client (because it's not a Silverlight assembly.) Is there some way I can access the definition of a message class from both the Silverlight client that consumes it and the service that publishes it without using the InternalsVisibleTo attribute or should I write the application another way?

  I'm working on a basic garden logging application which consists of gardens, plants and planted plants. Each user has one or many gardens, plants are master definitions, and a planted plant can be thought of as an instance of a plant in a specific user's garden. In my routes.rb file I have the following: map.resources :gardens do |gardens| gardens.resources :planted_plants, :has_many => :plant_log_entries, :collection => { :filter => :post, :choose_garden => :post} gardens.resources :garden_log_entries end map.resources :plants This makes sense to me when retrieving a list of planted_plants in a user's garden, but I'd like to create a planted_plant record from the index of plant. The problem is, a user can have multiple gardens. How can I create a new form for a planted_plant that allows the user to specify which garden should be used? The current route requires a garden_id - which makes sense for retrieval, but I'd like to supply that as a parameter for creation. Thanks in advance for any help!

First, Should I add anything to my list? Should I remove anything from my list? The items accommodates a large number of cases. However, whenever an app extends a model of another in some way (e.g. adding a field or changing the behavior in some way) I end up writing my own views and only reusing the model. Is this normal?

  Greetings! I run into a problem/bug in production environment with SQL Error: 1104 when deploying a project secured with the ACL tutorial. The full error: SQL Error: 1104: The SELECT would examine more than MAX_JOIN_SIZE rows; check your WHERE and use SET SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1 or SET SQL_MAX_JOIN_SIZE=# if the SELECT is okay [CORE/cake/libs/model/datasources/dbo_source.php, line 666] I've build a small site, worked through the ACL tutorial from the official cake book and locally everything is spiffy. dev. setup consists of: XAMPP: myslq 5.1.33, php 5.3 cakePHP 1.2.7 prod. setup: mysql 5.0.33 php 5.2.2 One of the differences I noticed with mysql setup between local and production servers, is that SQL_BIG_SELECTS is disabled on the production server ( and I don't have privileges to change that, posted a support ticked, didn't hear anything yet) Is there anything I can do about this from my end? • How should jruby-jars and jruby-rack be added to the classpath using warbler?

  Hi again, I've been reading through the warbler source code, and I can't figure out how the jruby-jars and jruby-rack jars are meant to end up on the servlet classpath? It seems warbler is copying them into web-inf/gems/gems/<gemname>/lib/<jarname>.jar but they are not on the classpath. I'm guessing that if I put them in my ruby apps lib/ folder they would be copied to web-inf/lib and all would be well, however, it seems odd to have 2 copies of the jar in the war file, is that what I am meant to do? • iPhone link to map directions using string "current location" not lat and lng for saddr

  I know there are numerous questions about how to construct a sharedApplication link to the maps app specifying the start and end address with coordinates. I've got that working no problem. Has anyone found a way to link with a source address generically specified as "current location". I ask because the scenario I'm working on having Core Location or a UIMapView would only be necessary in order to determine the user location prior to handing off to the map app where the user locating would seem to just happen again. I've tried throwing UTF8'd "Current Location" and "[Current Location]" into the saddr parameter which amusingly starts from Current Montana. I've also tried simply excluding the saddr param. I know this is often tread territory but this particular situation wasn't covered by anything I found searching here or on mapki. Before I add the core location code I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a more limited way to tackle this. Thanks
