  • How do I/O operations block?

    - by someguy
I am specifically referring to InputStream (Java SE) and its implementations. How is blocking performed? I'm a little worried that they use a "busy-waiting" mechanism, as it would produce a lot of overhead. I believe they do it another way, but I'm just asking to be certain.

  • package is not found, even though it's in both build classpath and runtime classpath

    - by Anthony
I am unable to compile a Java program because the compiler cannot find some of the packages needed even though they are in both the build classpath and runtime classpath. Other packages it can find just fine. The image below shows the problem. I have highlighted the gdata-media package in eclipse, as its the first package on the console that its not able to find: Click for full size What am I doing wrong?

  • variables in jasper report

    - by ed1t
Is there a way I could declare a variable of type HashMap which would call some java method to populate the HashMap? I want to have a hashmap in a report so depending on what the value of a certain field is, I would like to get the full description of it from an Hashmap.

  • BitSet to and from integer/long

    - by ataylor
If I have an integer that I'd like to perform bit manipulation on, how can I load it into a java.util.BitSet? How can I convert it back to an int or long? I'm not so concerned about the size of the BitSet -- it will always be 32 or 64 bits long. I'd just like to use the set(), clear(), nextSetBit(), and nextClearBit() methods rather than bitwise operators, but I can't find an easy way to initialize a bit set with a numeric type.

  • Can SpringSource Tool Suite build compliant EARs for WebSphere 6.1?

    - by bart
I read on the website that SpringSource Tool Suite has build targets for WebSphere. Flexible Deployment Targets Support for all the most common Java EE application servers At the moment we are getting grief from infrastructure as we are giving them WARs built in ant. They are used to taking EAR files built straight out of RAD or RSA. Does SS Tool Suite have the capability to build compliant EARs for Websphere 6.1?

  • How to get a Token from a Lucene TokenStream?

    - by FarmBoy
I'm trying to use Apache Lucene for tokenizing, and I am baffled at the process to obtain Tokens from a TokenStream. The worst part is that I'm looking at the comments in the JavaDocs that address my question. http://lucene.apache.org/java/3_0_1/api/core/org/apache/lucene/analysis/TokenStream.html#incrementToken%28%29 Somehow, an AttributeSource is supposed to be used, rather than Tokens. I'm totally at a loss. Can anyone explain how to get token-like information from a TokenStream?

  • JEE6 Advice - how viable is it?

    - by user294740
Hello! A friend and I are trying to start our own UK based business. We both know Java and thought we'd try to implement it using JEE6 and JSP. Can anyone offer some advice on how viable it would be and provide us with resources to consult?

  • Regex one-to-one mapping pattern replace

    - by polygenelubricants
How would you use regex to write a function that replaces all lowercase letters with uppercase and vice versa? Note: this is NOT a homework question. See also my previous explorations of regex: Regex split into overlapping strings (Alan Moore's answer is especially instructive) Can you use zero-width matching regex in String split? (my solution exploits a known Java regex bug with regards to non-obvious length lookbehind!)

  • Howcan I get started with Spring Batch?

    - by C. Ross
I'm trying to learn Spring Batch, but the startup guide is very confusing. Comments like You can get a pretty good idea about how to set up a job by examining the unit tests in the org.springframework.batch.sample package (in src/main/java) and the configuration in src/main/resources/jobs. aren't exactly helpful. Also I find the Sample project very complicated (17 non-empty Namespaces with 109 classes)! Is there a simpler place to get started with Spring Batch?

  • How to convert RGB to BGR?

    - by Adam
This is probably easy, but I'm trying to convert from a source which provides colors in RGB strings to an output in BGR strings in Java. I've been busting my brain and time on shifting and Long.decode and Long.toHexString. Feel free to also throw alpha values in there (RGBA - ABGR), though I think I can extend the principles.

  • Maze Navigation in Player Stage with Roomba

    - by Scott
    Here is my code: /* Scott Landau Robot Lab Assignment 1 */ // Standard Java Libs import java.io.*; // Player/Stage Libs import javaclient2.*; import javaclient2.structures.*; import javaclient2.structures.sonar.*; // Begin public class SpinningRobot { public static Position2DInterface pos = null; public static LaserInterface laser = null; public static void main(String[] args) { PlayerClient robot = new PlayerClient("localhost", 6665); laser = robot.requestInterfaceLaser(0, PlayerConstants.PLAYER_OPEN_MODE); pos = robot.requestInterfacePosition2D(0,PlayerConstants.PLAYER_OPEN_MODE); robot.runThreaded (-1, -1); pos.setSpeed(0.5f, -0.25f); // end pos float x, y; x = 46.0f; y = -46.0f; boolean done = false; while( !done ){ if(laser.isDataReady()) { float[] laser_data = laser.getData().getRanges(); System.out.println("== IR Sensor =="); System.out.println("Left Wall Distance: "+laser_data[360]); System.out.println("Right Wall Distance: " +laser_data[0]); // if laser doesn't reach left wall, move to detect it // so we can guide using left wall if ( laser_data[360] < 0.6f ) { while ( laser_data[360] < 0.6f ) { pos.setSpeed(0.5f, -0.5f); } } else if ( laser_data[0] < 0.6f ) { while(laser_data[0<0.6f) { pos.setSpeed(0.5f, 0.5f); } } pos.setSpeed(0.5f, -0.25f); // end pos? done = ( (pos.getX() == x) && (pos.getY() == y) ); } } } } // End I was trying to have the Roomba go continuously at a slight right curve, quickly turning away from each wall it came to close to if it recognized it with it's laser. I can only use laser_data[360] and laser_data[0] for this one robot. I think this would eventually navigate the maze. However, I am using the Player Stage platform, and Stage freezes when the Roomba comes close to a wall using this code, I have no idea why. Also, if you can think of a better maze navigation algorithm, please let me know. Thank you!
