  • How do you hyperlink to Word 2007 help pages?

    - by Jeremy Rudd
I want to hyperlink to a page within the Word 2007 Object Model Reference documentation, that ships with Word 2007. These are webpages that use the ms-help:// protocol that Firefox cannot understand. So I wanted to specify the ms-help:// path of the help page as a command line argument to the viewer, CLVIEW.EXE. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\CLVIEW.EXE Anybody know the command line syntax for this?

  • glib on Symbian S60

    - by PulpFiction
Hello, I am interested in porting a C library that depends on glib to Symbian. After some research, I found that there is a Symbian port of glib. However I can't seem to find much documentation about it. Can anyone point me to the right direction as to whether this can be even done or not? If yes, how.

  • Is RegSetValueEx thread safe?

    - by Brent Newbury
I suspect that RegSetValueEx is thread safe, but would like some confirmation from the community. If called from multiple threads, will there be any side effects? The RegSetValueEx MSDN documentation doesn't mention thread safety at all.

  • Are ORM's counterproductive to OO design?

    - by Jeremiah
In OOD, design of an object is said to be characterized by its identity and behavior. Having used OR/M's in the past, the primary purpose, in my opinion, revolves around the ability to store/retrieve data. That is to say, OR/M objects are not design by behavior, but rather data (i.e. database tables). Case and point: Many OR/M tools come with a point-to-a-database-table-and-click-object-generator. If objects are no longer characterized by behavior this will, in my opinion, muddy the identity and responsibility of the objects. Subsequently, if objects are not defined by a responsibility this could lend a hand to having tightly coupled classes and overall poor design. Furthermore, I would think that in an application setting, you would be heading towards scalability issues. So, my question is, do you think that ORM's are counterproductive to OO design? Perhaps the underlying question would be whether or not they are counterproductive to application development.

  • agility of asp.net MVC

    - by Hellnar
Hello I am wondering how agile (fast to develop yet stable) asp.net MVC compared to frameworks using dynamic languages such as Django or Ruby on Rails. I will be happy if you share you experiance in the name of development speed (assuming each language/framework is known at a similar level) Things I love about Django Fast model design thanks to ORM Good template system Not too hard to deploy Easy to extend Lots of free apps to plugin and great documentation Thanks

  • Babel Obfuscator: Sample effective post build event for free version

    - by JL
Does anyone have a sample post build event for Babel Obfuscator I can just copy and paste into my .net assembly release build configuration? The documentation for Babel is 54 pages long, and unfortunately doesn't come with any real world samples on how to use it with Visual Studio integration. Failing that , is there a free obfuscator out there that integrates well with VS 2008 post build, so that it will obfuscate the release DLL during each new build. I was using Eazfuscator which broke since they released version 2.8. Thank you

  • Software to Tune/Calibrate Properties for Heuristic Algorithms

    - by Karussell
Today I read that there is a software called WinCalibra (scroll a bit down) which can take a text file with properties as input. This program can then optimize the input properties based on the output values of your algorithm. See this paper or the user documentation for more information (see link above; sadly doc is a zipped exe). Do you know other software which can do the same which runs under Linux? (preferable Open Source)

  • Troubleshooting source of heavy resource-usage on a server 2008 running multiple sites

    - by batman_man
Hi, I am running about 10 asp.net websites on a hosted virtual server. The server runs Server 2008 - each website is backed by its own database running on SQL server 2008 on the same box. Lately the box has seemed really slow. The only kind of discovery i could think of doing was looking in the task manager, where i can see w3wp and sqlserver.exe jumping to 40% cpu usage every 5-10 seconds. What are the steps i can take to determine which of my websites is taking these resources and or what database is getting hit the most? I have of course ssms installed on the machine as well. As you can tell, my sysadmin skills are very very limited - any help would be much appreciated.

  • SQL Query Not Functioning - No Error Message

    - by gamerzfuse
// Write the data to the database $query = "INSERT INTO staff (name, lastname, username, password, position, department, birthmonth, birthday, birthyear, location, phone, email, street, city, state, country, zip, tags, photo) VALUES ('$name', '$lastname', '$username', '$password', '$position', '$department', '$birthmonth', '$birthday', '$birthyear', '$location', '$phone', '$email', '$street', '$city', '$state', '$country', '$zip', '$tags', '$photo')"; mysql_query($query); var_dump($query); echo '<p>' . $name . ' has been added to the Employee Directory.</p>'; if (!$query) { die('Invalid query: ' . mysql_error()); } Can someone tell me why the above code produced: string(332) "INSERT INTO staff (name, lastname, username, password, position, department, birthmonth, birthday, birthyear, location, phone, email, street, city, state, country, zip, tags, photo) VALUES ('Craig', 'Hooghiem', 'sdf', 'sdf', 'sdf', 'sdf', '01', '01', 'sdf', 'sdf', '', 'sdf', 'sdf', 'sd', 'sdf', 'sdf', 'sd', 'sdg', 'leftround.gif')" Craig has been added to the Employee Directory. But does not actually add anything into the database table "staff" ? I must be missing something obvious here.

  • How to determine the maximum integer the model can handle?

    - by John Mee
"What is the biggest integer the model field that this application instance can handle?" We have sys.maxint, but I'm looking for the database+model instance. We have the IntegerField, the SmallIntegerField, the PositiveSmallIntegerField, and a couple of others beside. They could all vary between each other and each database type. I found the "IntegerRangeField" custom field example here on stackoverflow. Might have to use that, and guess the lowest common denominator? Or rethink the design I suppose. Is there an easy way to work out the biggest integer an IntegerField, or its variants, can cope with?

  • Timed email reminder in python

    - by Ali
I have written up a python script that allows a user to input a message, his email and the time and they would like the email sent. This is all stored in a mysql database. However, how do I get the script to execute on the said time and date? will it require a cron job? I mean say at 2:15 on april 20th, the script will search the database for all times of 2:15, and send out those emails. But what about for emails at 2:16? I am using a shared hosting provided, so cant have a continously running script. Thanks

  • git push current branch

    - by Nocturne
I use the following command to push to my remote branch: git push origin sandbox If I say git push origin Does that push changes in my other branches too, or does it only update my current branch? (I have three branches: master, production and sandbox). (The git push documentation is not very clear about this, so I'd like to clarify this for good) What branches/remotes do the following git push commands exactly update? git push git push origin ("origin" above is a remote) (I understand that "git push [remote] [branch]" will push only that branch to the remote)

  • VBA - Create ADODB.Recordset from the contents of a spreadsheet

    - by robault
Hello, I am working on an Excel application that queries a SQL database. The queries can take a long time to run (20-40 min). If I've miss-coded something it can take a long time to error or reach a break point. I can save the results to a sheet fine, it's when I am working with the record sets that things can blow up. Is there a way to load the data into a ADODB.Recordset when I'm debugging to skip querying the database (after the first time)? Would I use something like this? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2086234/query-excel-worksheet-in-ms-access-vba-using-adodb-recordset

  • jQuery LazyLoad images in a hidden div

    - by xyzzy
I have a bunch of images that are in a hidden div. The div is shown when the user clicks on some links. I'd like to jQuery lazyload to hide these images until the link is clicked and the hidden div is exposed. But, if I use lazyload according to the documentation, the images are always loaded as the hidden div is in the viewport, presumably. any ideas?

  • Ruby on Rails Foreigner plugin not working for SQL Server

    - by Earlz
Well, now that I've finally got my stupid ODBC stuff configured, I took a schema.rb file that I dumped from a Postgres database and did a db:schema:load on it in a Rails project configured for SQL Server. Well, it sets up all the schema in the SQL Server database except for a minor detail: No foreign keys are created. The rake command doesn't show any errors and does say it is adding foreign keys. But they don't actually get added. This is the last bit from the command: -- add_foreign_key("workhistoryform", "form", {:name=>"workhistoryform_form_rid_fkey", :column=>"form_rid", :primary_key=>"form_rid"}) -> 0.0002s -- initialize_schema_migrations_table() -> 0.0092s -- assume_migrated_upto_version(0) -> 0.0942s [earlz@earlzarch avp_msql_migrations]$ So what is the problem? Does the Foreigner plugin not work in SQL Server? If it didn't I'd expect to see an error or something...

  • What is a hardware-id?

    - by Rob
Some forums that I regularly visit sell premium programs, and to prevent them from being leaked they use hardware-id authentication. That is, first they send you a program to run to grab your HWID, you tell them your HWID, they store it in a database, then they send you the actual program. If your HWID isn't in the database, the program won't run. So what is Hardware-ID, and how is it generated? Why is it that my HWID is different depending on the programmer that sends me a HWID-grabber?

  • How to stop scrolling in a virtual (LVS_OWNERDATA) listview in LVS_REPORT mode when using changing t

    - by David L Morris
Win32 Virtual listviews (LVS_REPORT view) created with the LVS_OWNERDATA style are supposed not to scroll when LVSICF_NOSCROLL is used in the LVM_SETITEMCOUNT message or ListView_SetItemCountEx macro, according the MSDN documentation. However, this doesn't seem work, and the list-view scrolls regardless of the use of LVSICF_NOSCROLL. In these sorts of cases, 99% of the time it is something I have done incorrectly or overlooked. But, I've now run out of options. Have I missed something?

  • advise how to implement a code generator for asp.NET mvc 2

    - by loviji
Hello, I would like your advice about how best to solve my problem. In a Web server is running. NET Framework 4.0. Whatever the methods and technologies you would advise me. applications built on the basis Asp.NET MVC 2. I have a database table in MS SQL Server. For each database, I must implement the interface for viewing, editing, and deleting. So code generator must generate model, controller and views.. Generation should happen after clicking on the button. as model I use .NET Entity Framework. Now, I need to generate controllers and views. So if i have a table with name tableN1. and below its colums: [ID] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [name] [nvarchar 20] NOT NULL, [fullName] [nvarchar 50] NOT NULL, [age] [int] NOT NULL [active] [bit] NULL for this table, i want to generate views and controller. thanks.
