• Writing a Windows NT subsystem

  I'd like to try writing my own minimal NT subsystem on Windows 7 for purely educational purposes -- something like a bare-bones equivalent of the posix.exe in Microsoft's Subsystem for Unix-based Applications. But I can't seem to find any public documentation on this topic. What API does a subsystem need to implement? How does it get registered with Windows? How does the subsystem image need to be built (what flags need to be set in the PE header, etc.)? I'd most like to find a book or web site with an overview of the entire subject, or even the source code for a "hello world" NT subsystem that someone else has written. But anything at all would be appreciated if you can point me in the right direction here...

• Javascript problems?

  I've been staring at the source code of these two download pages for awhile now and i can't seem to find the problem. I have two download pages, one where the javascript is working, one where it isnt. working: http://justupload.it/v/lfd7 not: http://justupload.it/v/ljhv The working one allows me to rotate the image and reveal the comments box by clicking on the comments button. The non-working one does not let me do that stuff. Can anyone help me find the problem or recommend a program to help me do it?

• ctypes and PySide

  I'm building an app with PySide, there's some image manipulation that needs to be done and using Python code for this is way too slow. Therefore I hacked out a .dll file that will do it for me. The function definition is as follows: extern "C" { QRectF get_image_slant(QImage *img, float slantangle, float offset) { Now I can load this function in via ctypes. But I can't seem to get ctypes to accept a QImage. I tried calling it like this: ext.get_image_slant(QImage(), 0, 0) And the reply I get is: File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ctypes.ArgumentError: argument 1: <type 'exceptions.TypeError'>: Don't know how to convert parameter 1 I tired casting the QImage to a c_void_p and it doesn't like that either. From what I can tell QImage() in python should map exactly to a QImage * in C, but Python doesn't seem to understand that.. Is there any way to force the casting?

• CALayer drawInContext vs addSublayer

  How can I use both of these in the same UIView correctly? I have one custom subclassed CALayer in which I draw a pattern within drawInContext I have a another in which I set an overlay PNG image as the contents. I have a third which is just a background. How do I overlay all 3 of these items? [self.layer addSublayer:bottomLayer]; // this line is the problem [squaresLayer drawInContext:viewContext]; [self.layer addSublayer:imgLayer]; The other 2 by themselves draw correctly if I do them in that order. No matter where I try and put bottomLayer, it always prevents squaresLayer from drawing. The reason I need 3 layers is I intend to animate the colors in the background and custom layers. The top layer is just a graphical overlay.

• Alpha transparent PNGs not displaying correctly in Mobile Safari

  I'm using some semi-transparent PNGs as background-images on various websites. These are usually something like a 1x1 image with a 30-percent opaque white layer. I've noticed that Mobile Safari does not display them correctly, giving them a darker/grayish tint. I've created a couple test pages to illustrate. View them both in your normal browser, and then on Mobile Safari, and you should see what I mean. This shows 11 red images of varying opacities on white: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index-red.html This shows 11 white images of varying opacities on blue: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index.html Is this a MobileSafari bug (I couldn't imagine so), or do I need to do something different, either to my pages or PNGs? (Here's how I create the PNGs: In Photoshop, create a 1x1 transparent canvas. Draw a white rectangle in Layer 1. Set opacity to, say 30 percent, Save for Web as 24-bit PNG with transparency.)

• Share and Deliver BI Publisher Reports in Multiple Languages

  When you share your reports with someone who speak and read in different languages you want your reports to be shown in their language, right ? Well, translating reports with BI Publisher is not only easy but also reduces the maintenance cost a lot. Many of us in the BI Publisher product development team used to work in Globalization and Multi Lingual support, which enables Oracle products and applications to be used in many different languages and countries and territories.  And we have a lot of experience in this area. In fact, being a strategic reporting platform for Oracle EBS, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Siebel, and many other Oracle application products, our customers from all over the world are generating thousands of thousands of reports, including out-of-the-box pre-developed reports from Oracle and customer created or customized reports, in their own local language everyday as they operate and manage their business. Today, I’m going to talk about this very topic, how to translate my reports with BI Publisher 11G. Translation Grows, not the Numbers of the Reports Most of the reporting tools, regardless if it’s traditional or new, always take this translation on the back burner. They require their users to copy an original report and translate the whole thing. So when you want to support additional10 languages you will need to have 10 copies of the original. Imagine when you have 50 reports then you will end up having 500 reports (50 x 10) ! Now you need to maintain these 500 reports, whenever you need to make a change in a report you need to apply the same change to the other 10 reports. And as you imagine this is not only a nightmare for IT managements but not acceptable especially for the applications like Oracle EBS that supports over 30 languages. So first thing we did was, very simple, we separated the translation out of the report and marry it to the report only at the report generation. This means, regardless of how many languages you need to support you need to have only one report and translation files for the 10 languages, which would contain the translated letters and words. So let’s say you have 50 reports and need to support 10 languages for those reports you still have only 50 reports and each report now has 10 language translation files. Yes, translation is the one should grow as you add more languages to support, not the report itself! And second, we provide the translation files in XLIFF format, which is an international standard XML based format to exchange and maintain translation strings. So once you generate the XLIFF files for your reports with BI Publisher then you can work with any translation vendors in the world to make a mass translation or you can translate the XML files by yourself by manually updating the translatable strings presented in this text file. Lastly, we made it easier to manage the translation process starting from generating the XLIFF files to uploading the translated XLIFF files back to the BI Publisher server. You can generate, download, upload the XLIFF files from the BI Publisher’s Web interface with your browser and you can see the translated reports right away without needing to shutdown or restart your server. While the translated reports are displayed based on your language preference setting you can also specify a different language when you schedule or deliver the reports so that they can be generated in your customer’s preferred language. What Can I Translate? When it comes to translation there are three things. First, report content translation. When you receive a report you like to see the content like report title, section title, comments, annotation, table column header, and anything that are static and embedded in the report. in your preferred language. We call this Reports Content translation. Second, when you open a report online you might want to see not only the report content being translated but also the report UI, such as report name, parameter name, layout name, and anything that would help you to navigate around the reports, to be translated in your language. We call this Reports UI translation. And this separation of the Reports Content and Reports UI translation makes it very useful especially when you want to navigate through the reports in your preferred language UI but want to generate the reports in your customer’s preferred language. Imagine you are English native speaker and need to generate and send a report to your customers in China. You like to see the report name, parameter name in English so that you can comfortably navigate to the report and generate the report output, but like to see the report generated in Chinese so that the your customers in China can understand the report when they receive it. And lastly, you might want to see even the data presented in the report to be translated. For example, you might want to see product names in an Order Status report to be translated based on the report viewer’s language preference. We call this Reporting Data translation. Since this Reporting Data translation is maintained at the data source level such as Database tables along with the main data, you need to prepare the translation at the data source level first. Then, you want to make sure that your query is switched accordingly based on the language preference setting so that the translated data will be retrieved. How to Translate BI Publisher Reports? Now when it comes to ‘how to translate BI Publisher reports?’ the main focus here is about the translation for the Report Content and Report UI. And I just created this video to show you how to create and manage the translation with BI Publisher 11G. Supporting multiple languages for your reports is no longer something ‘nice to have’, it’s mandatory. BI Publisher is designed to support multi lingual reports from the beginning without any extra hidden cost of license or configuration like other reporting tools such as Crystal Reports. • super dealloc error using multiple table view calsses

  I am new to Iphone apps and I am trying to build a tab based app. I am attempting to have a table ontop of an image in both tabs. On tab with a table of audio links and the other tab with a table of video links. This has all gone swimmingly, I have created two viewControllers for the two tables. All the code works great apart from to get it to work I have to comment out the super dealloc in the - (void)dealloc {} in the videoTableViewController for the second tab. If I don't I get the error message: FREED(id): message numberOfSectionsInTableView: sent to freed object please help, i have no idea why it is doing this...

• JMenuBar dropping down to a "custom" JPanel and "erased"

  The JMenuItems of JMenuBar drops down to a JPanel added to the JFrame, but the JPanel erases the JMenuItems. Do I supposed to pause the re-drawing of the JPanel? I'm using getGraphics() on the JPanel for drawing an image, this method is called from a thread with (for example) 200 ms delay. edit: It's a (very simple) game inside the JPanel. (I've added a field "paused" to the JPanel and i've edited the paint method so it repaints the JPanel only if paused is false, however I don't know if this "solution" is good. (It's set to true when the user clicks on a menu and set to false when selects or cancels it.)

• How to set my .apk file to run on different screen resolution in android?

  I am using a "WVGA800" for my app. I try to run it on different resolution screens. It it is not perfectly scratching in that resolution . I read and implement issues form this link. http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html But still not result. Please let me know if any one hase a perfect solution. Main issue are that I am fixing hight & width of Image, textsize etc. When these are displayed to screen of "WVGA800". But when I test them on "HVGA", "QVGA" then problem arise. I want to avoid the "if else" conditions by getting the screen resolution at Runtime. If any one hase any solution for this...let me know. Thanks in advance. I am also wondring when there will be new devices with new screen resolutions?

• How to handle CSS relative paths in an ASP.NET MVC application.

  I have a master page, which has a style sheet, which has the following line: .idle { background-image: url( '../../Images/blue_bg.png' ); } All my pages inherit from this master page. And this works well when the URL is http://www.domain.com/home/details/5, however the URL is http://www.domain.com/home/create, then, of course, blue_bg.png cannot be found because `../../Images/blue_bg.png' resolves to a directory one higher where there is nothing there. I tried the trick suggested by @codemeit in a similar question, but I can't plop down C# in a style sheet, can I? How is this typically handled?

  Since I have tried to install xapian but failed, I try another alternative with xapian-full.   When adding a QComboBox control in Qt Designer, I get a terrible looking, non-native control, see: http://curiouschap.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/stack_qcombobox_question.png [as a newbie, SO wouldn't let me insert the image] On digging further, it turns out that two of the parent controls, QParentWindow and QStackedWidget, have style sheets that QComboBox is inheriting. If I delete the custom styles, then I get a native QComboBox like the one on the left. How can I have QComboBox (and widgets generally) NOT inherit parent styles? Or, how can I create a style for, say, QParentWindow, and do it so that it's local only and does not cascade?

  I have some big entities which are frequently accessed in same session. For example, in my application there is a reporting page which consist of dynamically generated chart images. For each chart image on page, client makes requests to corresponding controller and the controller generates images using some entities. I can either use asp.net's session dictionary for "caching" those entities or rely on nhibernate's second level cache support with using cached queries for example. What is your opinion? By the way I will use shared hosting, is second level cache hosting friendly? Thanks.

  I'd like to find out which colours are used for a particular pallette in the ASP.NET Chart control. I already know there is an enum on the Chart class to set the palette, e.g. myChart.Palette = ChartColorPalette.Berry; But I'd like to know which colours belong to the palette. Before anyone asks - as I know you will - the reason I need to know the colours is because I want to create my own legend outside of the chart image. I also know that I can set my own colours on the DataPoints for the chart, but I'd rather not have to implement my own palette.

• How to get the same UITableViewCell layout as in the Address Book app?

  Hi, I currently have a custom UITableViewCell which contains a few labels, and an image. The "main" label is used to display people's names. Currently, I'm styling it in bold text. What I'd like to do (to gain some space and readability), is to mimic the Address Book app cell style, that is: first name in light text, and family name in bold text. Is there a way to do this using the same UILabel? Or, should I use 2 different UILabels? How should I layout them, without knowing their sizes? Thanks in advance for your assistance!

  I've sorta got a little problem. I'm trying to add a popoverview to my app but part of the popoverview get's hidden by my navigation controller bar. How can I make my popoverview overlay over top of the navcontrollerbar?   How can I create View on Linked Server db. For Example I have a linked server [0.0.0.0] on [1.1.1.1]. Both db servers are SQL Sserver 2005. I want to create View on [1.1.1.1] using table on linked server. EDIT: On creating using full name, [0.0.0.0].db.dbo.table, I am getting this error. SQL Execution Error. Executed SQL statement: SELECT * FROM 0.0.0.0.db.dbo.table (YOu can see brackets are not there.) Error Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider Error Message: Incorrect syntax near '0.0'. --- part of IP address. I am just creating this in ManagementStudio, not using it because it is not created yet. I Have changed IP. In image you can see there are not brackets around IP but I given it and on error these brackets are removed. Thanks.

• Splashscreen ProgressBar in Eclipse RCP has "dirty" corners

  Hi there, I am using the RCP Splash Screen along with the built-in ProgressBar (AbsolutePositionProgressMonitorPart). The splash image has a blue background color, but the background of the progressbar seems to be white, which leads to some white corners. There is no "setBackground" on BasicSplashHandler nor does getContent().setBackground(Color) has any noticeable effect. I don't want to be too picky, but since the splash is the first thing you see from the application, I think its very important to be tidy. So, do you have any idea how to get rid of these corners?
