VS6 popped off a series of errors before bombing out completely during install on Windows 7. I specifically need to get VB6 functioning on Windows 7. Anyone having any luck?
In a couple of scripts that I use I have problem that is intermittent.
Sometimes the script fails when trying to delete a file. According to the error log due to the file being accessed by an other process. I'm guessing that windows not had time to release the file after the previous operation performed on the file ended.
What amount of time would be a good guesstimate after which windows should have had time to release the file again?
I received a "Too many open files" error when tried to do fopen (C++, Windows XP).
Probably it happened because somewhere in my program I open files without closing them.
Is there a way on Windows to see a list of all open file descriptors (or all files that my program fopened)?
I have a Windows service that I'd like to gather some debugging data on using Intellitrace - the problem is that you can't debug a Windows Service by starting it directly from inside VS. I have the service installed, and the very first statement in Service.Start is "Debug.Break", which allows me to attach VS. However, you can't use Intellitrace if a process is already started when you attach.
Does anybody know of a workaround for this?
I have (in the past) written cross-platform (Windows/Unix) applications which, when started from the command line, handled a user-typed Ctrl-C combination in the same way (i.e. to terminate the application cleanly).
Is it possible on Windows to send a Ctrl-C/SIGINT/equivalent to a process from another (unrelated) process to request that it terminate cleanly (giving it an opportunity to tidy up resources etc.)?
Howdy..
Anybody know if it's possible to enable RFC1323 on a per TCP socket basis in windows?
I know it can be changed system wide via the registry ( http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/tcptune/OStune/winxp/winxp_stepbystep.html )
Also, it seems like this is possible *nix via:
int on=1;
setsockopt(s,IPPROTO_TCP,TCP_RFC1323,&on,sizeof(on));
Is there a Windows equivalent?
Thanky much!
I am in charge of a computer network in a small company (20..30 computers). Recently the need arose to control what kinds of programs our company is using i.e. to collect information that is available when one opens "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows.
I would like to have a program that will collect this kind of information over the network of Windows machines. What is your recommendation?
I want to scrape text data from a windows application to do additional processing using existing ruby code. Would it be possible to scrape the data as it is updated in the windows application using Ruby and where do I start?
I have a web service project that needs to be set to use Integrated Windows Authentication after installation. Normally, I would install the web service, then manually go to IIS and make sure the box is checked for Integrated Windows Authentication. There has to be a way to do this through code. I have looked up on using the Installer class. It looks like this is something I could use, but I have not found anything on setting properties programmatically in IIS.
The only way to install windows-service I know is using "Visual Studio 2008 Command Prompt", Is there a way to install windows-service on a machine which isn't having Visual Studio installed (assume that .Net version 2.X is installed.)
I need to add a device driver to a Windows CE image, I have the driver in .dll and .reg files and in a .cab package.
I'm using Visual Studio 2005 with Platform Builder for Windows CE 6.0.
How can I do that?
On a couple of windows XP systems I've looked at, the "System Idle Process" always has PID 0, and the "System" process always has PID 4. In a Windows program which enumerates processes, is it safe to recognise these processes by these PIDs, or can they be different in some circumstances?
In a .net 2.0 C# application I use the following code to detect the operating system platform:
string os_platform = System.Environment.OSVersion.Platform.ToString();<br/>
This returns "Win32NT".
The problem is that it returns "Win32NT" even when running on Windows Vista 64bit.
Is there any other method to know the correct platform (32 or 64bit)?
Note that it should also detect 64bit when run as 32bit app on Windows 64bit.
Is there a definitive guide for special folders in windows? An internet search yielded just a few crumbs of information, e.g.
Wikipedia:Special Folders
Windows 7 Client Software Logo Program
What I'm looking for is an explanation of each folder, its intended purpose, usage scenarios and motivation for its existence (e.g. what does Local App settings provide for that App settings doesn't). A matrix/table of requirements/uses against folder would be handy I think.
I'm using a JTree to browse the content of a folder and I want that when a user click on a file, the software shows a preview of it (like in the Windows Explorer).
I manage to do it for PDF file using a module downloaded from Sun, but I'd like to know if there is a way to do it using the built-in Windows API.
A lot of windows services write daily log files to their application installation directory under "program files".
Windows system apps (eg IIS) use %SystemRoot%\System32\LogFiles. Is something I should do for my service?
Or: how do I find the IIS metabase paths in Windows 7?
I used to just run aspnet_regiis -lk, but this is "Not supported in Windows Vista" according to aspnet_regiis help...
Hey guys.
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04, trying out linux for the first time. I'm wondering if it's possible to link my documents folder in Ubuntu to my documents folder in Windows, so that when I open the folder in Ubuntu, I am linked to the folder in Windows.
Any ideas?
I want to make an easy to deploy Windows application and was was wondering which programming systems can create totally self contained Windows .exe files?
As a plus, if the same can be done with MacOSX and Linux from the same source this would be a bonus. I took a look at Realbasic but they have since abandoned the single .exe concept.
What real world project based on Windows Embedded do you know? Please provide some details such as description, project domain, key feature and why Windows Embedded is used?
As I understand it, the limitation of 255 characters in a file path is a Windows limitation. What is the reasoning for this? If so, has this been resolved in Windows 7?
In our continuous integration practices, we often have deeply nested project structures and it would be extremely useful to be able to go beyond 255 characters. Right now we are somewhat forced to structure our projects in such a way as to not hit this artificial ceiling.
Does anyone know how to get/set the call divert settings in codes running on Windows mobile 5/6? I am new to windows mobile development and wonder if there is anyway to do it using C# and .NET CF?
My HP laptop uses Windows Update to deploy updates for some of HP's integrated software. How'd they do that? What API will allow you to integrate with Windows Update to deploy your own patches?
If a program is executed for the first time in Windows 7, it automatically hides the icon. Is there any manifest setting or option to force Windows 7 to always show the icon by default?
