• Inconsistent Routing Results in MVC

  Seems I'm still missing something to the MVC routing concept. I have a route that follows nearly the same pattern as another route in an area but for what ever reason I get a 404 every time I attempt to run it. I've tried to use Phil Haack's Route Tester DLL and according to that it hits the correct route (matched route comes out to common/itemhistory/{contentid}). When I try to run it for real, it blows up. I'm trying to map a call to a JsonResult by passing a Guid. I've had success with other routes working fine (common is an area in my site). • x86 Assembly - printf doesn't print without "\n"

  So I'm confused. I'm going through the book "Programming from the Ground Up" and am working with using libraries. printf is working just fine so long as I include a "\n" in the string, but without it it will print absolutely nothing. Any idea why this happens? Code: .section .data my_str: .ascii "Jimmy Joe is %d years old!\n\0" my_num: .long 76 .section .text .globl _start _start: pushl my_num pushl $my_str call printf movl $1, %eax movl $0, %ebx int $0x80 Also, when I use -m elf_i386 for 32-bit mode and -dynamic-linker /lib/ld-linux.so.2 -lc to link, I get the warning ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib64/libc.so when searching for -lc If that makes any difference, or if anybody has any suggestions as to how to have it load the 32-bit library directly. • Why does AddMilliseconds round the double paramater?

  DateTime.Now.AddMilliseconds(1.5); // adds 2 milliseconds What on earth were they thinking here? It strikes me as horrendously bad practice to create a method that takes a double if it doesn't handle fractional values. Why didn't they implement this with a call to AddTicks and handle the fraction properly? Or at least take an int, so it's transparent to callers? I'm guessing there must be a good reason why they implemented it this way, but I can't think of what it could be. Can anyone offer any insight?

• Can a function/class know the context from where it is being invoked or instantiated?

  Let's take this class as example and assume that get_context() returns the source of the call: class A { public function __construct( ) { if( get_class( get_context( ) ) == B ) { return true; } else { return false; } } } class B { function __construct( ) { $a = new A( ); } } $a = new B( ); // returns true, as B is the invoking class of A $a = new A( ); // returns false, as B is invoked outside of any class So, my questions are: 1) can a function know the context that calls it? 2) can a object know context from where it has been instantiated? Or am I dreaming up new features not implementable in PHP?

• Table sorter causing slow script

  Hello guys i have a problem i wish i could find a solution i created this instant chat system works fine i created this seTimeout to retrieve data when the messages exceeded an extent slow script alert started to appear when i tracked down the problem i found out that the data is retrieved in time longer than the call to setTimeout and since i use jquery table sorter don't realize that the data is a table until it is all retrieved so continuous slow script alerts are displayed till all table is retrieved.one more thing i retrieve data using an ajax request. Note: The number of rows to be retrieved is 257 rows How could i solve this problem?Any ideas .

• SSRS 2008: How to do multiple values report?

  Hi everyone, Right now I have an application which uses Reporting Services to render reports. This is working nicely, I call each report with a given value (e.g. a ClientId), and the report gets rendered correctly. However, what I'd like to do now is being able to send multiple ClientIDs to the report, and would like to get 1 pdf file with count(ClientsIDs) pages, each containing the report, according to the ClienID. How is that possible? I don't really know how to name what I want to do, so I don't really find answers on the net right now. Maybe someone has a tutorial for me? Thanks in advance !

• Not a statement?

  I have a simple little code fragment that is frustrating me: HashSet<long> groupUIDs = new HashSet<long>(); groupUIDs.Add(uid)? unique++ : dupes++; At compile time, it generates the error: Only assignment, call, increment, decrement, and new object expressions can be used as a statement HashSet.Add is documented to return a bool, so the ternary (?) operator should work, and this looks like a completely legitimate way to track the number of unique and duplicate items I add to a hash-set. When I reformat it as a if-then-else, it works fine. Can anyone explain the error, and if there is a way to do this as a simple ternary operator?

• C semaphores: sem_wait throwing inexplicable error

  I'm working on a problem which we have to use semaphores to solve. I have an array which contains two semaphores, gsem, and given certain conditions call sem_wait(&(gsem[me])), which is supposed to waiting until that particular process is woken up. However, for some reason it gives me the error Bad file descriptor. I looked up sem_wait and the Open Group spec says this is not an error sem_wait can cause. This is making my whole program crazy and I have no idea why this is failing.

• How to terminate a managed thread blocked in unmanaged code?

  I have a managed thread which is waiting, blocked, in an unmanaged code (specifically, it on a call to NamedPipeServerStream.WaitForConnection() which ultimitely calls into unmanaged code, and does not offer a timeout). I want to shut the thread down neatly. Thread.Abort() has no effect until the code returns to the managed realm, which it won't do until a client makes a connection, which we can't wait for). I need a way "shock" it out of the unmanaged code; or a way to just kill the thread even while it's in unmanaged land.

• grab inspect the parameters to "use" and pass on the rest?

  I have a Perl module and I'd like to be able to pick out the parameters that my my module's user passed in the "use" call. Whichever ones I don't recognize I'd like to pass on. I tried to do this by overriding the "import" method but I'm not having much luck. EDIT: To clarify, as it is, I can use my module like this: use MyModule qw/foo bar/; which will import the foo and bar methods of MyModule. But I want to be able to say: use MyModule qw/foo doSpecialStuff bar/; and look for doSpecialStuff to check if I need to do some special stuff at the beginning of the program, then pass qw/foo bar/ to the Exporter's import

• pyplot.scatter changes the data limits of the axis

  I have some code which plots some points. I substituted ax.scatter for ax.plot so I could control the color of each point individually. However when I make this change the axis x and y ranges seem to increase. I can't pinpoint why this is happening. The only thing I've changed is plot to scatter. This code makes an axis that is too big ax.scatter(x, y, c=color_list, s=pts_size, marker='o', edgecolor='none') #ax.plot(x, y, linestyle='None', marker='o', markerfacecolor=pts_color, markersize=pts_size, markeredgewidth=0) This code does the right thing (but I can't control the color) #ax.scatter(x, y, c=color_list, s=pts_size, marker='o', edgecolor='none') ax.plot(x, y, linestyle='None', marker='o', markerfacecolor=pts_color, markersize=pts_size, markeredgewidth=0) Is there a way I can call scatter such that it doesn't mess with my current axis limits?

• Set Hibernate session's flush mode in Spring

Question: Can I some how set FlushMode to ALWAYS in session factory or somewhere else to avoid repeating session.flush() call? All DB calls in DAO goes with HibernateTemplate instance. • Symfony: Pass an object from another module to a form

  I have a symfony project and I have one model, which for this example I will name Boat. From the Boat's showSuccess page, I would like to make a link to another model's form page. For this example we will call it Ticket. When they click on the link, I would like for the Boat object to be passed to the Ticket form because I have to display some of that specific Boat's fields (title, price, etc) on the Ticket form page (newSuccess.php). I guess my question is, how do I pass an object (as a variable) to another model's "new" form page. I have looked everywhere and I can't seem to find an answer that works for me. Thank you!

• MySQL: How to consume/discard the result of a query?

  I have a stored procedure which executes an optimize table statement for every table in a DB. Those optimize table statements are prepared statements of course (they have to be built at runtime) and I need to call that procedure from PHP using ext/mysql API. Unfortunately, ext/mysql does't support doing such thing because optimize table returns a result set and in order to handle that, the new mysql protocol is required, which is supported by the "new" ext/mysqli API. Well... there are several things I dont have control over, so it's not in my posibilities to upgrade to ext/mysqli any time soon, nor can I implement the procedure as PHP code rather than sql code. So I thought if it would be possible somehow to consume/discard the result of optimize table inside the stored procedure so that ext/mysql doesn't complain about it. One thing to consider is that since the optimize table statements are prepared statements, you can't use a cursor over them.

• Javascript function programming — receiving elaborate parameters

  I'm writing a Javascript function that would manipulate an array written on-the-fly and sent as a parameter. The function is written as follows: function returnJourney(animation,clean){ var properties = {}; // loads of other inane stuff for(i in animation[0]) properties[animation[0][i]] = animation[0].i; // heaps more inane stuff } The animation in question is a set of parameters for a jQuery animation. Typically it takes the format of ({key:value,key:value},speedAsInteger,modifierAsString). So to kick off initial debugging I call it with: returnJouney(({'foo':'bar'},3000),1); And straight off the bat things are way off. As far as I see it this would have returnJourney acknowledge clean === 1, and animation being an array with an object as its first child and the number 3000 as its second. Firebug tells me animation evaluates as the number 3000. What am I doing wrong?

• how rspec creates database between specs

  This is a bit of a naive / simple question. I'm having a hard time finding this info online. Basically, does rspec run rake db:test:prepare between every rspec group? Or is it between every example or model? Or does the schema get loaded once and then truncated between each. I need to add a rake task directly after this call to create a view since they are not supported in schema.rb. Either a link or explanation would be greatly appreciated so that I know where to insert my rake task to create a view. Or whether there is a callback like rake db:test:after_prepare thx

The iPhone app will use GET or POST to retrieve data from the web services such as http://www.myserver.com/api/top10songs.json to get data for top ten songs for example. There is no user account and password for the iPhone app. What is the best practice to ensure that only my iPhone app have access to the web API http://www.myserver.com/api/top10songs.json? iPhone SDK's UIDevice uniqueueIdentifier is not sufficient as anyone can fake the device id as parameter making the API call using wget, curl or web browsers. The web services API will not be published. The data of the web services is not secret and private, I just want to prevent abuse as there are also API to write some data to the server such as usage log.

• Adding code to the beginning / end of methods in runtime dynamically

  I know instrumentation is a technique to add trace code dynamically into the methods to enable tracing and debugging. I was wondering if this is only a "Trace" option, hard coded into the CLR to add only trace code, or is there the ability to add any code to the methods? For example, I want to check for a condition in the beginning of every single method call in a certain class (say for permissions). Can I do this via adding dynamic code to the beginning of the methods in execution time? I'm not sure how this trace "instrumentation" thing works, but I'm wondering if this can be used for other goals too, or not.

• JSON Response {"d":"128.00"} but displaying "128"

  Hi all, I have been working on a shopping cart that the user can add/remove order items as they please and am returning an updated sub-total via a webservice using jQuery $.ajax Here is how I am calling the webservice and setting the sub-total with the response. //perform the ajax call $.ajax({ url: p, data: '{' + s + '}', success: function(sTotal) { //order was updated: set span to new sub-total $("#cartRow" + orderID).find(".subTotal").text(sTotal); }, failure: function() { //if the orer was not saved //console.log('Error: Order not deleted'); } }); The response I am getting seems perfectly fine: {"d":"128.00"} When I display the total on the page it displays as 128 rather than 128.00 I am fully sure it is something very simple and silly but I am so deep into it now I need someone with a fresh brain to help me out!!   I want to get Default Windows Forms Unhandled-Exception Dialog whenever my C# application encounters U-E. In vs 2005 when I turn off jit Debugging in app.conf like this: <configuration> <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="false" /> <configuration> the application behaves correctly and shows Windows Forms U-E default dialog, with Continue, Quit, call stack and all. However in vs 2008, on the same machine or different, even though I diable jit I still get Default .NET Unhandled-Exception Dialog, with Debug, Send Report and Don't Send buttons. How can I make my vs 2008 app act like the one I make in vs 2005, to show Windows Forms U-E dialog box? Please do not recommend to use AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(CurrentDomain_UnhandledException); just because I don't use custom handler in my vs 2005 project, why would I use in vs 2008? I want to let this job do CLR. Any help is appreciated

• JavaScript eval() with `this`

  If I define a JavaScript code snippet in my HTML, like so: <div id=myElem onMyUpdate="alert('Update called for ' + this.id)">... then what is the most elegant way of evaluating it from within JavaScript with this properly assigned? What I came up with so far is something like this: if (elem.hasAttribute('onMyUpdate')) (function () { eval(elem.getAttribute('onMyUpdate')) }).call(elem); which looks terrible (to me), but works. Any better/more elegant alternatives? MDN says there used to be the second argument to eval() for doing just that but it's deprecated now; MDN then suggests to use operator with() instead, which, if you follow the link provided, turns out to be made deprecated by the latest standard. Dead end, in other words. (As a side note, StackOverflow ignores the word this in search terms and thus it may miss relevant answers - is there a way of telling it not to?) Edit: I forgot to mention: no jQuery please, just vanilla JavaScript
