• how to remotely open an URL in Firefox in a specific profile?

  I have several instances of Firefox with several different profiles running. Among them profiles with the names "software" and "test". I am trying to open an URL from a bash script to have it open in profile "test", like this: firefox -P "test" http://www.example.org/ However that opens it in profile "software" anyway. Any ideas? • Change Windows Service Priority

  I have a windows service that needs to run with High Priority. The taskmananger throws an "Access Denied" error, but I am logged on as administrator and I changed the user account of the service to administrator, too. I still get the "access denied" message when trying to change the priority. Any ideas what permission I need to do that?

• Protect individual sites on Ubuntu/Apache server

  Hi,?? I need to set up a Apache server configuration for some client sites that run under the same Ubuntu 9.10 machine. All sites are allowed to run PHP, Python and Ruby on Rails. I do not control the source code of these sites and so I need to set up a filter in order to prevent one user to reach files on another users account.?? If I run a script to list files in "/" from one account, I can browse some files and directories in the actual server root. I want to set the root for each account to /var/usersite.com/www/ instead so that listing files in "/" shows the files in the client's root. ??How is this most easily configured??? • rsync remote to local automatic backup

  Because all my work is stored on a remote server I would like to auto backup my server monthly and weekly. My server is running Centos 5.5 and while searching the web I'm found a tool named rsync. I got my first update manually by using this command in terminal: sudo rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IPADDRES: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP I then prompt my password for that user and bob's my uncle. This backups the necessary files from my remote server to my local device but does somebody know how I can automate this? Like automatic running this script every sunday? EDIT I forgot to mention that I let direct admin backup the files I need and then copy those files from the remote server to a local server.

  Hi , I want to use directadmin as my web control panel and it needs several packages like g++ , gcc and etc... as usuall I started to type apt-get install g++ and there problems start : dependecy error... then I tried to apt-get -f install and I got this error (Reading database ... 15140 files and directories currently installed.) • Will you choose JavaFX for Development?

  A few weeks ago, a poll on the home page of java.net caught my eyes, because it was related to JavaFX. Its title: Will you use JavaFX for development once it's fully ported to Mac and Linux platforms? Usually, the results for this type of polls are published on the editor's Daily Blog soon after the poll closes. For some reason, this didn't happen for the JavaFX poll, so I'll take a shot at interpreting the results.  The results found on java.net look pretty close to the following: Although this way to look at the results already gives us an idea of how much traction JavaFX is getting, there are just too many type of answers that make it hard to read. The answers "maybe" and "I don't know" are awfully similar, so I'm tempted to collapse these together. Then there is "No, I don't do that type of development" that just doesn't belong here, as obviously developers who ave chosen this answer don't develop Rich Internet Apps, and therefore I will adapt the % results accordingly. Finally, I've been tempted to combine the top three categories just t simplify the results. This gives me the following chart:  Whether you prefer the original graph, or my simplified take on it, one thing is sure:  less than 10% of developers who have taken this poll plan to stick to another toolkit (presumably Swing or SWT), while the vast majority is inclined to use JavaFX. When you take into account that JavaFX 2.0 is pretty much a "new" API (no more JavaFX Script), I think these are some pretty good results, 6 months after the official release of JavaFX 2.0.

• Best method(s) to backup VMs running on HyperV?

  We're in the middle of P2V'ing most of the network, so the current backup method is likely the worst - the backup agent is still installed on the guest OSs, and the backup device is dutifully pulling them onto tape, one file at a time. I suspect there's a clever way to script (PowerShell?) a suspend on the VMs, then backup of the .vhd files, and unsuspend the VMs. This seems like it would provide big speed benefits, while losing file-level restore (might be best for things like DCs and app servers). What methods/policies have you hammered out?

  Occasionally you hear someone grumble about platform support for some portion or combination of the Java product "stack". As you're about to see, this really is not as much of a problem as you might think. Our friend John Yeary was able to pull off a pretty slick feat with his vintage Power Mac G5. In his words: Using a build script sent to me by Kurt Miller, build recommendations from Kelly O'Hair, and the great work of the BSD Port team... I created a new build of OpenJDK 7 for my PPC based system using the Zero VM. The results are fantastic. I can run GlassFish 3.1.1 along with all my enterprise applications. I recently had the opportunity to pick up an old G5 for little money and passed on it. What would I do with it? At the time, I didn't think it would be more than a space-consuming novelty. Turns out...I could have had some fun and a useful piece of hardware at the same time. Maybe it's time to go bargain-hunting again. • Centos + CPanel results in php always running as fgci, instead of cli, as expected

  I'm having problems with a server configured by someone else. It uses CPanel, and it has Apache+PHP. For some reason, when running php -v as a user, i get "cli" as handler # php -v | head -n 1 PHP 5.3.27 (cli) (built: Oct 15 2013 16:06:48) If a make a PHP script with echo shell_exec("php -v | tail -n 1"), i get PHP 5.3.27 (cgi-fcgi) (built: Oct 15 2013 16:22:16) Why the cli/fcgi difference? I need to fix this so that scripts ran by the apache user would be running as "cli", not "fcgi". • Enumerating network shares with NetBIOS

  Hello, I have a case where I need to find all connectable shares on my network, and preferably as much information about the share possible. I could do this manually but its quite a big network and it would be too slow. If I did it manually Im guessing I would do something like net view net use //hostname <browse it manually> This would however not give me hidden shares so its not a viable option. Does anyone know of a tool which can help me out in this case? I already tried Sysinternals ShareEnum but it did not work properly. It did a half decent job, but it gave me access denied on tons of shares that was actually open. Any tips in how I can script this is also appriciated. Thank you

• How to start a service at boot time in ubuntu 12.04, run as a different user?

  I have a server ClueReleaseManager which I have installed on a Ubuntu 12.04 system from a separate user (named pypi), and I want to be able to start this server at startup. I already have tried to create a simple bash script with some commands (login as user pypi, use a virtual python environment, start the server), but this does not work properly. Either the terminal crashes or when I try to ask the status of the service it is started and I am logged in as user pypi ...? So, here the question: What are the steps to take to make sure the ClueReleaseManager service properly starts up on boot time, and which I can control (start/stop/..) during runtime, while the service is running from a user pypi? Additional information and constraints: I want to do this as simple as possible Without any other packages/programs to be installed I am not familiar with the Ubuntu 12.04 init structure All the information I found on the web is very sparse, confusing, incorrect or does not apply to my case of running a service as a different user from root.

  I'm buying this unit from deal extreme: it's a bitorrent downloader, with NAS capability. I'm interested in sharing an external HD in it, with media and backup purposes. I'm afraid of energy problems (don't know if this is the correct term), corrupting my mounted drives (like after a storm), so I thought about buying a No Break that sends a "signal" to my Linux box, and a script in my Linux box would unmout everything to avoid problems. Do this "No Break signal" feature exists? Do you have model suggestions? Thanks!

• I need a form to tie MySQL Records together.

  I need a HTML-based form to tie database records together. The user scenario that I envision is somthing like this: A super-user does a search of the database and is delivered a table of records based on that search; each record is numbered with the database-record id. There would also be two text fields next to each record. These text fields would allow: the user to make a reference from one record to another. For example, a user could enter into record id #457 the integer 242 to indicate that there is a correlation with record ID #242. The user would also describe the type of relationship it is. This could be accomplished with a simple integer in the second field that indicates the type of relationship between the two records. When the super-user hits the submit button, all of these relationships are saved in a mySqljoin table. One option is to give me advice on how to implement and code this myself in PHP. However, before I reinvent the wheel, another option is to lead me to a free script that does something similar.

The only real physical file is index.php, in which the parameters of the URL queried is processed and the corresponding result is outputted. My question is, do the crawling robots (e.g. Googlebot) recognize these links? Do they index the resulting HTML outputted by index.php with the specified parameters as if it was a actual HTML file? Also, would this become a problem when creating a Sitemap?

• Multiple MySQL instances via mysqlmanager under Debian

  Has anyone got multiple MySQL instances running on Debian with mysqlmanager? Problem is, Debian doesn't ship with init.d script that takes mysqlmanager into account. Oh, and it doesn't work for me.   I'm removing the delaycompress function from my logrotating script. Before running logrotate again, should I compress the last log myself ?   I'd like to know if it's possible to create and use a printer in Azure Worker Roles. I do know that I can install printers with basic batch commands. So I could define a batch script that would run as a startup task. something like: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "printer" /f %windir%\inf\ntprint.inf /r "file:" /m "printername") Question: Can I use a printer to print to file, maybe to local storage? I do need the function to print to file or atleast to have a printer installed, because I have to get the PCL output from different installed printers. Sadly I can not test it by myself. I do not have a CC to join the 90 days trial.

• What is the best type of c# timer to use with a Unity game that uses many timers simultaneously?

  I am developing a stand-alone 3d game in Unity that will have anywhere from 1 to 200 timers running simultaneously. There will be a GameObject containing 1 timer. For this game timer durations will range from 5 minutes to 4 days. There will not be any countdown displays or any UI for the timers. Each object is a prefab, with all the necessary materials included. An attached script will handle the timer and all the necessary code to change the materials and make any sound effects. Once the timer is expired, the user will then click on the object again, and the object will be destroyed, and the user's inventory will be adjusted. If the user wants to save or end the game before all the timers are done, the start value of the still running timers is to be saved to an XML file such that when the game is started again, any still running timers will be checked to see if they have expired, where the object's materials will be changed appropriately. I am still trying to figure out what type of timer to use, and see also if there are any suggestions for saving and calculating times over several days. What class(es) of timers should I use? Are there any special issues I should look out for in terms of performance?

• Is it possible to use different keyboards for different applications?

  What I would like is this: I would have two keyboards. One of them is "connected" to Matlab, the other is "connected" to my text editor of choice. This way, I could edit some script and still test some commands in Matlab without having to constantly switch between the applications. Basically, I would want to have an additional keyboard attached to my computer that solely controlled Matlab. That would be awesome! Is there any way to do this? Preferably with OSX, but it would be fun on Windows or Linux, too.

  Hi there, I've written a little utility in haXe + Neko that needs to execute some GIT commands. To avoid hardcoding the path to the GIT executable I'd like to use the which command to find out where it is. Everything works as expected when running manually from the console, but not when the the app runs on a cron job. I'm aware of the restricted environment (here or here) when you run a script using cron, but still surprised this doesn't work: /usr/bin/which git >> /home/user/git.txt The text file is created but the content is empty. Again, when run from the console it works as expected. Any ideas? I'm running OS X Leopard, if that helps. Thanks : ) Juan
