• How to trigger saved password autofill in browsers?

  I have a web application written in pure JavaScript (no pre-generated HTML except for the document which loads all the JS files). This app contains a login form which is created dynamically when the document.ready event event is triggered. I trick the browser into displaying the "Remember password?" dialog by posting the login form into a hidden iframe before logging in using ajax (in Firefox the password appears on the saved password list, so this part obviously works) but saved passwords never get filled in after the login screen is loaded again at a later time. The same thing happens in Firefox and Safari. Is there something I can do or some function I can call to trigger autofill? UPDATE: autofill works in Safari on initial page load, but not when user logs out and the login form is recreated without a page reload. In Firefox it never works.

• Coldfusion 9 installation problem with IIS7

  Windows web server 2008 R2 64 bit, CF9 64 bit, IIS7, ISAPI extensions and filters and II6 metabase compatability installed. OS is on C default, and trying to install CF to D: Testing IIS and it shows index.html correctly from c:\inetpub\wwwroot at http://localhost/index.html Then I install CF to D:\ , single standard server licence, select run with all IIS sites, select C:\inetpub\wwwroot as the web root for administrator, and when it gets to the bit where it is supposed to open up administrator to complete the installation it opens up the browser with a 500 error. Now when I go back to http://localhost/index.html I also get a 500 error, if i uninstall CF I can again reach the html page. CFIDE has been installed in C:\inetpub\wwwroot presumably correctly. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong please. Update The exact IIS error is HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. • Document.ready() failing on popup

  I am using ASP.Net and jQuery/jQuery UI and I am trying to use the datepicker control. It works fine on every page, except when I have to use the popup (to add new data into the database and then i refresh the current page to reflect the new data being entered). It seems that document.ready() is failing when I use the popup. I can invoke the datepicker control manually with adding a click event to fire off the showcalendar function, however I want to try and make it work. Does anyone have any ideas of why a popup would fail document.ready() ? Thanks!

  My model object (e.g. MyObject) has one property (e.g. color), the "color" property holds a string value which comes from a list of string (e.g. colors=['red','yellow', 'black']). now, I have one instance of myObject get from database and show on the view page in a row, I need to show the 'color' property of myObject in a drop down menu with the current value as the default selected. How to implement this in Rails 3 in my view page. (Later, when user select from the dropdown menu, the object will be updated in DB based on user's selection) Please explain with instance "myObject" and list "colors=[...]"

• Strategy in exporting to Excel with formatting from ASP.NET?

  So this is another exporting to Excel question. I have a page that has a table with formatting by stylesheet. When I export the page by setting the ContentType to application/excel and Content-Disposition to attachment, I can export the table to Excel (not CSV). However, it loses all formatting. I think it's because Excel does not load CSS and I guess that's reasonable. So, in a scenario where I have to show the table on the web and also export to Excel, both with similar (even if not exact) formatting, what would be the best approach without using something like NPOI? I am trying to minimize the work and keep the single template if possible. Is it necessary for me to create two separate templates: one with stylesheet, the other with embedded style in the table itself for Excel? Having a single template with conditional formatting inside would be very messy. Any ideas?

  Hi guys, I am try to create a JSP page that will show all the status in a group of local servers. Currently I create a schedule class that will constantly poll to check the status of the server with 30 second interval, with 5 second delay to wait for each server reply, and provide the JSP page with the information. However I find this way to be not accurate as it will take some time before the information of the schedule class to be updated. Do you guys have a better way to check the status of several server within a local network?

Here the server page returns randomly generated number,using this number(converted into seconds) i am triggering another function in ajax success .it works My problem suppose random number = 5 means trigger() function called after 5 seconds using setTimeout,but rember ajax call is triggering every 1 second so trigger function also called many time. i want to make ajax call wait untill trigger function execution.Which means i wanna pause that ajax call untill 5 seconds after that resume How can i do this ? • Authkit - deferring action for HTTP '401' response to client application

  Form, Redirect and Forward all send an unauthenticated user to a Form on a login page specified within an Authkit middleware application. I'd like to allow a client application to request a service via XHR and then present a custom 'client side' form if a HTTP status code of 401 is returned, which would then post to Authkit for authentication until valid authentication/authorization occured. Specifically, 1) a jquery $.get request might request a resource. 2) if an Authkit cookie check confirmed previous authorization the content would be returned. 3) if not I would like Authkit to simply return the '401 response' (and not redirect to another page, or return a form template) where a client side exception handler would notify the user and present an authentication form. Can Authkit work like this?

• How can I block based on URL (from address bar) in a safari extension

  I'm trying to write an extension that will block access to (configurable) list of URLs if they are accessed more than N times per hour. From what I understand, I need to have a start script pass a "should I load this" message to a global HTML page (who can access the settings object to get the list of URLs), who will give a thumbs up/thumbs down message back to the start script to deny/allow loading. That works out fine for me, but when I use the usual beforeLoad/canLoad handlers, I get messages for all the sub-items that need to be loaded (images/etc..), which screws up the #accesses/hour limit I'm trying to make. Is there a way to synchronously pass messages back and forth between the two sandboxes so I can tell the global HTML page, "this is the URL in the window bar and the timestamp for when this request came in", so I can limit duplicate requests?   i have a page that contains content which need to be dynamically changed according to the current page size. in order to do that, during the onload event, i attach some JS function to the "onresize" window event. it looks like that: window.onresize = function() { //do something here... }; This is working fine in any browse, except IE7! These are the problems i'm having: It seems that in IE7, when i resize the window vertically only (i.e. clicking with the mouse on the bottom border, and drag it down), it does not fire the "onresize" event. sometimes, i get an infinite loop of "onresize" event, causing the browser to hang forever. I will appreciate any help with any of these issues. thanks, Moe

But I would like to know about any odd physical tools or techniques that you've used; Something that you never expected to be useful, but ended up saving the day. I'll go first: A Camera Phone. An application server had a major power issue that borked the RAID. Many of the disks were offline. Before I took the plunge and forced disks back online, I took a picture of the RAID BIOS screen with my camera phone. Having the exact layout of the RAID stored safely in my pocket, I was able to reset the RAID, and reboot the server. What odd tools/techniques have you used?

  All, I'm a little new to WCF over IIS but have done some ASMX web services before. My WCF service is up and running but the helper page generated by the web service for me has the default names, i.e. the page that says: You have created a service. To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service. You can do this using the svcutil.exe tool from the command line with the following syntax: svcutil.exe http://localhost:53456/ServicesHost.svc?wsdl In a standard ASMX site I would use method/class attributes to give the web service a name and a namespace. When I click on the link the WSDL has: <wsdl:definitions name="SearchServices" targetNamespace="http://tempuri.org/" i.e. not the WCF Service Contract Name and Namespace from my Interface. I assume the MEX is using some kind of default settings but I'd like to change them to be the correct names. How can I do this?

  I have 6000 data of district, subdistrict. I need to represent this on dependent dropdown. The datamodel is for example; class Location(db.Model): location_name = db.StringProperty() location_parent = db.IntegerProperty() location_parent is reference to key() or id()? Still cannot decide which one is good. When i use key() as reference then using JSON to create jquery dependent drop down. My page loading/query and rendering time the dropdown is quite slow? Can i use key().id() as drop down option value to lighten up the page load? Any better solution for this parent/child reference for the drop down? For example: for the district record/entities the location-parent is null, for sub district record location_name will contain reference to parent district record. Other issue is to reverse geocoding the location to store or display geoPoint (lat,long)? Is google MAP API always find the exact lat,long of specific region boundaries or any error checking for the result?

• PHP's apache_setenv function causes 500 Internal Server Error

  apache_setenv ( 'no-gzip', 1 ) I'm trying to disable gzip for a certain page's output, but only that page. This works fine on testing servers, but not the production server, which is running the same thing (CentOS and Apache), works on Ubuntu though. Anyway, do you know why? Or is there some other alternative? I was thinking of using ob_start () to put all output in a buffer, and then unzip it myself with a PHP function then call ob_end_flush ()... or would it not be gzipped until right before Apache sends it to the client?   I'm installing Ubuntu server on a disk with 12GB available. During the setup, I choose the default LVM-based partition layout. However for some reason, Ubuntu decides that it only wants to use 4GB of this disk. How do I reclaim the remaining space of the hard disk?   Profile that is used for ASP.NET Profile Service is not available in Page code behind files like in Page_Load. It may be just a problem with Visual Studio installation/configuration, but as another problem, classes placed in App_Code in not seen in page codes. Even when I'm adding new ASP.NET folder to my project, "App_Code" is not available as an option. I tested the entire scenario with ASP.NET Web Project and Empty ASP.NET Web Project. This problem does exists while creating ASP.NET Website. Environment: Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate x64, ASP.NET 4.0, Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. What may be the problem and how it can be solved?

  I am have an asp.net page, where a list of products is shown in a drop down. When a user selects an item, corresponding price, available quantity etc. are shown in the corresponding text boxes. I have used ajax update panel to retrieve these information. This approach seems to work nicely. But sometimes when a product is selected, it takes too long for the price, quantities to change, and sometimes they don't even change. Then I used firebug to see what happened to the ajax request, and I found out that the response that is coming from the server is something like this - 70|error|500|The state information is invalid for this page and might be corrupted.| I have absolutely no idea what is wrong here.............

• Can't get to Pex download (or visual studio 2010)

  I know this is probably not a "True" stackoverflow question, but here it is anyway: Is anyone able to get to the MSDN Download of Visual Studio 2010? I just get "Your search did not match any products." when I click on the New Downloads-Visual Studio 2010 link. I was able to download Visual Studio on Monday. But it is gone now. That is not really my issue though. That page is also where the pex download is. With that page down I can't download pex either. (I checked with a co-worker (who is having the same issue) before posting. So I know it is not just me.)

• IE8 Compatibility View issues

  I have the IE7 emulater tag in a jsp layout. But when I bring up the page, it defaults to the IE8 view until the user clicks the Compatibility View button. I don't want the user to have to click the button to launch compatibility mode. Is there a way to force IE7 Emulation on pageLoad? I'd even like to disable the button (or any potential to toggle between IE8 standard mode/IE7 view). Thanks! //sw Update: Now the button seems to have disappeared entirely, but still defaults to IE8 standards. Where did it go?! The toolbar context menu has it as selected, but the tools dropdown menu has it grayed out. For my purposes, it is unacceptable for the user to have to use the developer tools or even click the button to trigger emulation, but I don't know why the button disappeared anyway...

• Gmail freezes on display:none

  Hi, I have a "div" which i insert in everypage, inside which resides my plugin. In certain pages where i might not need to use the plugin, i do a display:none on the div. This seems to work perfectly fine in all browsers. The only exception to this seems to be the "google.com" pages. Whether it be the search page or the gmail page, it seems to freeze once i do this display:none. By freeze i mean that none of the links are clickable after this. Is there something specific with these pages that i'm missing?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  Is there a real solution for COMET AND PHP combination? Basically, I've come to a point that I need to update a user home page periodically whenever there is new data in the database. As far as I understand, I need to open a persistent connection between my server and my clients browsers to update the contents of their home page as soon as new info. available without dedicating a lot of resources but I had no luck finding anything clear about this issue. I read many articles suggests that PHP is not a good language to implement COMET. My web application is completely programmed in PHP and I don't want to learn another language but if I'm forced to, Would you suggest a good language to start with? Do you think that I can program an interface just to handle this issue? Thanks in advance.

• Detect HTTPHandler Start

  Is there a way to detect if a httphandler has started transmitting? I'm trying to do large dynamic Excel Exports (in html table format). I can do this, but there's a long delay from the httphandler getting the message and starting the download. I have turned off the output buffer, so the delay seems to be waiting for the SQL server to dump the data into the sqldataset. Anyways, I'd like to send the user to a new page, have the page display a message, and automatically close once the httphandler has started sending the file. Is there a way to detect if the first file headers have been sent? Many thanks in advance!

• [Web] Eventlistener for form input on iphone?

  I'm playing around with jQTouch to create a web app on the iPhone. I'm using the scrolling extension to create the effect of a fixed toolbar on the top of the page while still able to scroll the rest of the page via a scrollable div. Everything works fine except for when a user pulls up the keyboard in order to fill in form elements in the scrollable div. The whole body is pushed to top and the ugly url bar is shown. Is there a way to prevent this?
