• LINQ Expression not evaluating correctly

  I have the following LINQ expression that's not returning the appropriate response var query = from quote in db.Quotes where quote.QuoteStatus == "Estimating" || quote.QuoteStatus == "Rejected" from emp in db.Employees where emp.EmployeeID == quote.EmployeeID orderby quote.QuoteID descending select new { quote.QuoteID, quote.DateDue, Company = quote.Company.CompanyName, Attachments = quote.Attachments.Count, Employee = emp.FullName, Estimator = (quote.EstimatorID != null && quote.EstimatorID != String.Empty) ? db.Employees.Single (c => c.EmployeeID == quote.EstimatorID).FullName : "Unassigned", Status = quote.QuoteStatus, Priority = quote.Priority }; The problem lies in the Estimator = (quote.EstimatorID != null && quote.EstimatorID != String.Empty) ? db.Employees.Single(c => c.EmployeeID == quote.EstimatorID).FullName : "Unassigned" part. I NEVER get it to evalueate to "Unassigned", on the ones that are supposed to, it just returns null. Have I written this wrong?

• Segmentation fault in strcpy

  consider the program below char str[5]; strcpy(str,"Hello12345678"); printf("%s",str); When run this program gives segmentation fault. But when strcpy is replaced with following, program runs fine. strcpy(str,"Hello1234567"); So question is it should crash when trying to copy to str any other string of more than 5 chars length. So why it is not crashing for "Hello1234567" and only crashing for "Hello12345678" ie of string with length 13 or more than 13. This program was run on 32 bit machine .

• How do you mark class with TypeConverter that is not in referenced solution?

  I have a class that I've written a TypeConverter for. I want to keep the TypeConverter separate from the main solution, as it is only needed at design time and have an extensibility project now that contains the TypeConverter. Thus, when I deploy, I don't need to deploy the extensibility assembly at all. However, I can't figure out the appropriate string to use in the attribute to actually connect the class to the converter. Note I can't use this: [TypeConverter(typeof(MyConverter)] because MyConverter is in a project that isn't referenced. I need to use the string overload, but can't figure out what to use: [TypeConverter("what the heck goes in here!")] I think I need maybe a path to the assembly, maybe a GUID, the class name...just not sure...

I can't declare the interface methods as in-line when creating the dialog because I want to access variables in my class. Every other interface passes some sort of id to its methods to identify which object called the method, but I can't seem to do anything with 'DialogInterface dialog'.

Is there a way to programmatically stop swank? It seems start-repl takes control of the thread. • NLog not logging messages on XP SP3 with .NET 3.5 Client Profile

  I'm writing a program that is targeting the .NET 3.5 Client Profile and using NLog. I configure my logger programmatically on start up (no config file.) It works perfectly on Vista and Windows 7, but when running on a fresh install of XP SP3 with the .NET Client Profile installed, it will not log any of the variables in the layout string. For example, with the layout string set to: target.Layout = "MESSAGE: ${longdate}|${level}|${message}"; It will log "MESSAGE: | | |" Again, this only happens on XP SP3, and the logger is set to throw exceptions. Any ideas what may be causing this?

• Efficiency of Java "Double Brace Initialization"?

  In Hidden Features of Java the top answer mentions Double Brace Initialization, with a very enticing syntax: Set<String> flavors = new HashSet<String>() {{ add("vanilla"); add("strawberry"); add("chocolate"); add("butter pecan"); }}; This idiom creates an anonymous inner class with just an instance initializer in it, which "can use any [...] methods in the containing scope". Main question: Is this as inefficient as it sounds? Should its use be limited to one-off initializations? (And of course showing off!) Second question: The new HashSet must be the "this" used in the instance initializer ... can anyone shed light on the mechanism? Third question: Is this idiom too obscure to use in production code? Summary: Very, very nice answers, thanks everyone. On question (3), people felt the syntax should be clear (though I'd recommend an occasional comment, especially if your code will pass on to developers who may not be familiar with it). On question (1), The generated code should run quickly. The extra .class files do cause jar file clutter, and slow program startup slightly (thanks to coobird for measuring that). Thilo pointed out that garbage collection can be affected, and the memory cost for the extra loaded classes may be a factor in some cases. Question (2) turned out to be most interesting to me. If I understand the answers, what's happening in DBI is that the anonymous inner class extends the class of the object being constructed by the new operator, and hence has a "this" value referencing the instance being constructed. Very neat. Overall, DBI strikes me as something of an intellectual curiousity. Coobird and others point out you can achieve the same effect with Arrays.asList, varargs methods, Google Collections, and the proposed Java 7 Collection literals. Newer JVM languages like Scala, JRuby, and Groovy also offer concise notations for list construction, and interoperate well with Java. Given that DBI clutters up the classpath, slows down class loading a bit, and makes the code a tad more obscure, I'd probably shy away from it. However, I plan to spring this on a friend who's just gotten his SCJP and loves good natured jousts about Java semantics! ;-) Thanks everyone!

  I have the following Solution: SomeProject.Ria (non Silverlight code) SomeProject.Ria.Silverlight (Silverlight light code, namespace is still SomeProject.Ria) SomeProject.Ria.MyServices (RIA Services Domain Service) SomeProject.Ria.MyServices.Proxies (RIA Services Silverlight Generated Code) SomeProject.Shell (Silverlight Applicaiton) SomeProject.Web (Web Application) I would like to use Resource Files for my Annotations on the meta data class in SomeProject.Ria.MyServices. The format for that appears to be: [Required(AllowEmptyStrings=false,ErrorMessageResourceName="ThisFieldIsRequired", ErrorMessageResourceType(MyResource))] Which project does MyResource belong in? (Assuming that someday I need to support other culture files). Also the use of the string in here really seems to breed room for error, is it possible to do something like this and still achieve localization, or does this just get compiled into the meta data? If not, how can I get round the resource name being a string? [Required(AllowEmptyStrings=false,ErrorMessage=MyResources.RequiredMessage)]

I have this regex: ((?<=[<])([A-Z]|[_])+(?=[>]))|(\\[.\\]) But this returns square bracket items within the parenthesis. I know the problem with HTML checkbox.   I'm building the 2nd iteration of a web-based CRM+CMS for a franchise service business in ASP.NET MVC 2. I need to control access to each franchise's services based on the roles a user is assigned for that franchise. 4 examples: Receptionist should be able to book service jobs in for her "Atlantic Seaboard" franchise, but not do any reporting. Technician should be able to alter service jobs, but not modify invoices. Managers should be able to apply discount to invoices for jobs within their stores. Owner should be able to pull reports for any franchises he owns. Where should franchise-level access control fit in between the Data - Services - Web layer? If it belongs in my Controllers, how should I best implement it? Or would this lead to duplicate Views? Controllers, URL Routing & Areas Assuming Areas aren't used, what would be the best way to determine which franchise's data is being accessed? I thought of this: {franchise}/{controller}/{action}/{id} or is it better to determine a job's franchise in a Details(...) action and limit a user's action with [Authorize]: {job}/{id}/{action}/{subaction} {invoice}/{id}/{action}/{subaction} which makes more sense if any user could potentially have access to more than one franchise without cluttering the URL with a {franchise} parameter. Their length is equal to table row index, counting from 2.   Hi I'm using Gallio\MbUnit 3.1 with ReSharper and Visual Studio 2008. 'string invalidEmail'. If I remove that prameter it seems to work normally. It will run the test if I have: [Test] public void IsValidEmail_Invalid_Emails_Should_Return_False() { var invalidName = test@badEmail@_test.com"; Assert.IsFalse(AppHelper.IsValidEmail(invalidEmail), "Email validation failed for " + invalidEmail); } I appreciate that there may be better ways to achieve this test but I'm trying to work my way through a book and this is how it's explaining things. The idea would be to efficiently create an IEnumerable collection (see "combined" below) combining the results. string test = "abcABC"; string regex = "(?<grpa>a)|(?<grpb>b)|(?<grpc>c)]"; Regex regNoCase = new Regex(regex, RegexOptions.IgnoreCase); Regex regCase = new Regex(regex); MatchCollection matchNoCase = regNoCase.Matches(test); MatchCollection matchCase = regCase.Matches(test); //Combine matchNoCase and matchCase into an IEnumerable IEnumerable<Match> combined= null; foreach (Match match in combined) { //Use the Index and (successful) Groups properties //of the match in another operation } In practice, the MatchCollections might contain thousands of results and be run frequently using long dynamically created REGEXes, so I'd like to shy away from copying the results to arrays, etc. I am still learning LINQ and am fuzzy on how to go about combining these or what the performance hits to an already sluggish process will be.

I have the following json String: {"server":"clients","method":"whoIs","arguments":["hello"]} I am parsing it to the following Map< String, Object {arguments=[hello], method=whoIs, server=clients} It is now possible to do the following: request.get("arguments"); This works fine. But i need to get the array the is stored in the arguments. How can i accomplish this? I tried (for example) the following: System.out.println(request.get("arguments")[0]); But of course this doesn't work.. Does anybody know how this would be possible?

  I just installed Dynamics CRM 4.0. It is working nicely except for workflows. They won't start. I turned on tracing and it appears that there is an IO error. The server is setup with IFD and SSL. No issues accessing it internally or externally. • Theory of Computation - Showing that a language is regular..

  I'm reviewing some notes for my course on Theory of Computation and I'm a little bit stuck on showing the following statement and I was hoping somebody could help me out with an explanation :) Let A be a regular language. The language B = {ab | a exists in A and b does not exist in A*} Why is B a regular language? Some points are obvious to me. If b is simply a constant string, this is trivial. Since we know a is in A and b is a string, regular languages are closed under union, so unioning the language that accepts these two strings is obviously regular. I'm not sure that b is constant, however. Maybe it is, and if so, then this isn't really an issue. I'm having a hard time making sense of it. Thanks!

• Problems with matching emails with regex

  Hello, I'm trying to match an email address here is what I've come up with so far : String text = "[email protected]"; String regex = "(\\w+)@{1}(\\w+){2,}\\.{1}\\w{2,4}"; This however works with following cases : [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] So it matches any alphanumeric character repeated once or more that comes before one @ followed by any alphanumeric character repeated at least two times(which is minimal characters for any domain name) followed by one .(dot) and followed by any alphanumeric character repeated at least 2 times and at most 4 times(because there are domains such as .us or .mobi). This expression however does not work with emails such as : [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] etc as many subdomains or [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] I've just started to learn regex and I found interesting to try to solve problems such as these by using regex .. not partially but for each case, any help would be much appriciated.
