  • [jquery] Autogrow Textarea '+' Parent div height

    - by Shishant
    Hello, My Html is like this: <div style="height: 90px;" class="tabtextarea"> <div>Description:</div> <textarea style="height: 85px;">TEXT...</textarea> </div> As you can see textarea is contained within a div with specific height so that it doesnt break layout on some browsers due to float styling and etc I am using. I saw few jquery plugins that resize the textarea but is there any solution with which I can resize parent div too? There is no need for live resizing, resizing just once when page is loaded is preferred as the data is already populated in it. Thank You.

  • why does the data property in an jquery ajax call override my return false?

    - by user315709
    hi, i have the following block of code: $("#contact_container form, #contact_details form").live( "submit", function(event) { $.ajax({ type: this.method, url: this.action, data: this.serialize(), success: function(data) { data = $(data).find("#content"); $("#contact_details").html(data); }, }); return false; } ; when i leave out the data: this.serialize(), it behaves properly and displays the response within the #contact_details div. however, when i leave it in, it submits the form, causing the page to navigate away. why does the presence of the data attribute negates the return false? (probably due to a bug that i can't spot...) also, is the syntax to my find statement correct? it comes back as "undefined" even though i use a debugger to check the ajax response and that id does exists. thanks, steve

  • Call a function every hour

    - by user2961971
    I am trying to update information from a weather service on my page. The info should be updated every hour on the hour. How exactly do I go about calling a function on the hour every hour? I kind of had an idea but im not sure of how to actually refine it so it works... What I had in mind was something like creating an if statement, such as: (pseudo code) //get the mins of the current time var mins = datetime.mins(); if(mins == "00"){ function(); }

  • Unable to execute functions on elements loaded with AJAX (jQuery)

    - by Jason
    i am using .prepend() to load data after i POST a form with .ajax(). once the new elements are added, my functions won't work on them. if i link the js file directly in the prepended data, the functions work, but when i POST, i starts multiplying the events. i have a feeling it has something to do with binding, but i am not able to figure out exactly how to handle it. any ideas? thanks!

  • Simple: replace div with ajax content (jquery)

    - by user469110
    I followed this thread. I now have: <a href="#" onclick="$('#gc').load('test');">reload</a>... </span> <div id="gc"> empty </div> This is what I am getting: Uncaught exception: TypeError: Cannot convert '$('#gc')' to object Error thrown at line 1, column 0 in <anonymous function>(event): $('#gc').load('test'); What is that? I thought I would be able to select a div and replace the contents with load()?

  • Large Data Table with first column fixed

    - by bhavya_w
    I have structure as shown in the fiddle http://jsfiddle.net/5LN7U/. <section class="container"> <section class="field"> <ul> <li> Question 1 </li> <li> question 2 </li> <li> question 3 </li> <li> question 4 </li> <li> question 5 </li> <li> question 6 </li> <li> question 7 </li> </ul> </section> <section class="datawrap"> <section class="datawrapinner"> <ul> <li><b>Answer 1 :</b></li> <li><b>Answer 2 :</b></li> <li><b>Answer 3 :</b></li> <li><b>Answer 4 :</b></li> <li><b>Answer 5 :</b></li> <li><b>Answer 6 :</b></li> <li><b>Answer 7 :</b></li> </ul> </section> </section> </section> Basically its a table structure made using divs. The first column contains a long list of questions and the second column contains answers/multiple answers which can be quite big ( there has to be horizontal scrolling in the second column.) The problem i am facing is when i scroll downwards the second column which has the horizontal scroll bar is also scrolling downward. I want horizontal scrollbar to be fixed there. as in it should be always fixed there no matter how much i scroll vertically. Much Like Google Spreadsheets: where the first column stays fixed and there's horizontal scrolling on rest of the columns with over vertical scrolling for whole of the data. I cannot used position fixed in the second column. P.S : please no lectures on using div's for making a table structure. I have my own reasons. and its kinda urgent. Thanks in advance.

  • Virtual Includes not recognized

    - by pfunc
    I am attempting to include a header in my html file. <!--#include virtual="/header.shtml" -- This is not being read by the browser. The file works fine when I go to it alone. It works fine when I had it in the header (not through an include file). Do some servers not allow this kind of include?

  • Rails: How to preload a message to user

    - by Michael
    I have a Rails based prelaunch site that has some rotating background images (which are important for selling the idea of the site) that are taking too long to load, such that the users are leaving the site before they load. The only thing they're seeing is the email submission box. What's a good way to show a message to the users that the site will take some time to load but then have that message disappear after a reasonable period of time. I'm guessing a jQuery fadeOut() with a timer, but I'm not sure how long to set the timer for, because I'm not sure at what time it would start counting. Any suggestions?

  • Uncaught TypeError: Property 'dist2' of object [object Object] is not a function

    - by Radu Vlad
    I have this functions that should return me the distance from point p to segment line v-w. The problem i have is after some time i receive the following error: Uncaught TypeError: Property 'dist2' of object [object Object] is not a function. I receive it in distToSegmentSquared directly,not even calling the function dist2().Is it any other dist2() anywhere in jquery?I found none... function sqr(x) { return x * x; } function dist2(v, w) { console.log(v); console.log(w); return sqr(v.x - w.x) + sqr(v.y - w.y); } function distToSegmentSquared(p, v, w) { var l2 = dist2(v, w); if (l2 == 0) return dist2(p, v); var t = ((p.x - v.x) * (w.x - v.x) + (p.y - v.y) * (w.y - v.y)) / l2; if (t < 0) return dist2(p, v); if (t > 1) return dist2(p, w); return dist2(p, {x: v.x + t * (w.x - v.x), y: v.y + t * (w.y - v.y)}); } function distToSegment(p, v, w) { return Math.sqrt(distToSegmentSquared(p, v, w)); } The values that are given in for that error are: p: Object x: 461 y: 333 v: Object x: 80 y: 120 w: Object x: 260 y: 120

  • IE8 $('body').width() is 0 on $(window).load()

    - by allicarn
    On $(document).ready I run through a for loop twice and alert out the body's width ($('body').width();) each time through. I get a value I would expect (ex. 1092). On $(window).load I run through another for loop twice, also alerting out the body's width each time through. I get 0 the first time through (and the page looks completely blank behind the alert), and then a value I would expect the second time through (ex. 1092). This is an issue I am not able to replicate in a stripped-down example, nor any other browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, IE9, IE10). Does anyone have any ideas, or other things that I could test for? I am using $(window).load to cut up some divs based on their width, which is based on their font size, which is based on a webfont (which isn't necessarily loaded by the time $(document).ready fires).

  • jQuery center multiple dynamic images in different sized containers

    - by JVK Design
    So I've found similar questions but none that answer all the questions I have and I know there must be a simple jQuery answer to this. I've got multiple images that are being dynamically placed in their own containing div that have overflow:hidden, they need to fill their containing divs and be centered(horizontally and vertically) also. The containing divs will be different sizes as well. So in short: multiple different sized images fill and center in containing div. containing divs will be different sizes. will be used multiple times on a page. Hopefully this image helps explain what I'm after. Click here to view the image. HTML I'm using but can be changed <div class="imageHolder"> <div class="first SlideImage"> <img src="..." alt="..."/> </div> <div class="second SlideImage"> <img src="..." alt="..."/> </div> <div class="third SlideImage"> <img src="..." alt="..."/> </div> </div> And the CSS .imageHandler{ float:left; width:764px; height:70px; margin:1px 0px 0px; } .imageHolder .SlideImage{ float:left; position:relative; overflow:hidden; } .imageHolder .SlideImage img{ position:absolute; } .imageHolder .first.SlideImage{ width:381px; height:339px; margin-right:1px; } .imageHolder .second.SlideImage{margin-bottom:1px;} .imageHolder .second.SlideImage, .imageHolder .third.SlideImage { width: 382px; height: 169px; } Ask me anything if this doesn't make sense, thanks in advance

  • jQuery see if next element (not sibling) exists

    - by DevlshOne
    Here's my HTML code: <select class="grid_3 required jobData valid" id="clli" name="clli" style="font-size: 10px; border: none;"> <option value="0">Select One...</option> <option value="905"></option> <option value="931">0</option> <option value="1">ABRDMSES</option> </select> <img alt="This data has been changed!" title="This data has been changed!" src="images/caution.png"> <img alt="This data has been changed!" title="This data has been changed!" src="images/caution.png"> <img alt="This data has been changed!" title="This data has been changed!" src="images/caution.png"> <select class="grid_3 required jobData" id="job_status" name="job_status" style="font-size: 10px; border: none;"> <option value="0">Select One...</option> </select> When a $('#clli').change(); occurs, I slap a caution image next to it to warn the user that there are changes to be saved. However, if they make more than one change to the same element, I first want to see if there is already a caution image there before sending a new one. Any theories/methods on how to just scope out the next (but not $.next()) element?

  • Good Form for Random Number Generator?

    - by JackCJR
    I wanted to get a few opinions on doing a random number generator. I read through a couple different ways to do it and this is the way that I created after doing a little reading. Is it acceptable form? Any foreseeable issues? function master(){ function generate(){ var pickFrom= "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789"; var j = pickFrom.length; var i = Math.floor(Math.random()*j+1); //Generates a random number var code = pickFrom.charAt(i) //Picks a number based on what number was picked. document.write(code) } x = 1; while(x){ generate(); x--; } } master();

  • Passing a panel widget to a function

    - by user2939801
    I have written a quite complex script which calls a server handler to refresh elements in a grid at the press of a button. For code re-use and consistent behaviour, I am wanting to call that server handler directly during the initial painting of the grid. When the server handler gets called by clicking on the button, all expected widgets are available and can be queried with e.parameter.widget etc. When I call the function directly and pass it the panel variable, the value of e is just 'AbsolutePanel'. Is there some way I can emulate the addCallbackElement way of passing the entire panel and all widgets it contains to the function? Or a way of automatically firing a server handler on script start? Please forgive any syntax errors below, I have pruned 500 lines of code down to the pertinent bits! Thanks Tony function doGet() { var app = UiApp.createApplication(); var mainPanel = app.createAbsolutePanel(); var monthsAbbr = ['Jan.', 'Feb.', 'Mar.', 'Apr.', 'May.', 'Jun.', 'Jul.', 'Aug.', 'Sep.', 'Oct.', 'Nov.', 'Dec.']; var Dates = Array(); var period = 5; var dateHidden = Array(); var dayOfMonth = new Date(((period * 28) + 15887) * 86400000); var dateString = ''; var dayOfWeek = 0; for (var i=0; i<84; i++) { dateString = dayOfMonth.getDate() + ' ' + monthsAbbr[dayOfMonth.getMonth()] + ' ' + (dayOfMonth.getFullYear() - 2000); Dates [i] = dateString; dateHidden[i] = app.createHidden('dates'+i, dateString).setId('dates'+i); mainPanel.add(dateHidden[i]); dayOfMonth = new Date(dayOfMonth.getTime() + 86400000); } var buttonReset = app.createButton('Reset').setId('buttonReset'); var handlerChange = app.createServerHandler('myHandlerChange'); handlerChange.addCallbackElement(mainPanel); mainPanel.add(buttonReset.addChangeHandler(handlerChange)); app.add(mainPanel); myHandlerChange(mainPanel); return app; } function myHandlerChange(e) { var app = UiApp.getActiveApplication(); Logger.log('Here are the widgets passed into the function: ' + Utilities.jsonStringify(e)); return app; }

  • How can I use a variable as a jQuery option value?

    - by mattgorecki
    I currently have jQuery code that looks like this: if ($.url.param("s") == "error") { $.gritter.add({ title: 'Error!', text: $.url.param('message') }); } I'm checking to see if the request variable s exists in the url (ie. http://example.com/?s=error&message=this%20is%20my%20message and then showing a popup message that contains information from request variable message. The popup works just fine, but the message variable isn't populated, the plugin asks for a string as a value for the text option. What is the proper way to grab the message variable?

  • JSON element detection

    - by user3614570
    I’ve created a string… {"atts": [{"name": "wedw"}, {"type": "---"}]} I pile a bunch of these together in an array based on user input and attach them to another string to complete a JSON object that tests out as valid. So I end up with a global array called fields with a bunch of these little snippets. So how do I change the name "weds" with a new name? I’ve tried... function changefieldname(pos){ var obj = JSON.parse(jsonstring); var oldname = obj.tracelog.fields[pos].atts[0]["name"]; var newname = document.getElementById("newlogfieldname"+pos).value; fields[pos].replace(oldname, newname); //writejson(); } And a bunch of variations. I know everything is checking out correct interms of the variables pos, oldname, and newname. I also know that fields[pos] returns the string in the array I want to correct but it’s not happy. I also tried converting fields[pos] to a string, but the replace function doesn't work on it. I’m sure there is a good reason.
