• jQuery pre document ready event

  Hi, I have a list of 179 thumbnail images that I am trying to apply a jQuery lightbox tool to an unorder list of hyper-links. The problem I have is, the jQuery isnt firing until the images have finished downloading, each image is around 23K so on their own, not so big, but as a group this equates to around 4MB. There is a delay on IE (main browser used by clients) of a good 5 seconds before the page has completely downloaded every thumbnail and then allows the jQuery to fire. I have tried putting the jQuery document ready event in various places with no success, and only been able to put a bandaid on by setting the css on the ul to hide using display:none before applying .show() after the lightbox has applied. I was hoping there is a way to make the jQuery scripts fire before all the content has downloaded? Cheers

• Disabling model's after_find only when called from certain controllers

  I have an after_find callback in a model, but I need to disable it in a particular controller action e.g. def index @people = People.find(:all) # do something here to disable after_find()? end def show @people = People.find(:all) # after_find() should still be called here! end What is the best way to do it? Can I pass something in to .find to disable all/particular callbacks? Can I somehow get the controller name in the model and not execute the callback based on the controller name (I don't like this)..? Help!

• Custom Display Form with Custom Workflow button

  I have created a new custom list form that will show 4 fields on the page from a Custom List called "Shipment". I have added Form Action button that I would like to run a custom action that is set inside of a Workflow. Currently, the form displays the fields for "Manifest Number", "Pickup Location", "Delivery Location", & "Scheduled Pickup Time". When the user clicks the Form Action button, what I want the Workflow to do is go to the ID field of the displayed content in the Form and change the value of the "Picked Up" column from No to Yes. The problem I am having is passing the ID of the displayed information from the Form to the Workflow as a variable. I can get the "Picked Up" column to update if I specify the value in the "Update List Item" window under the "Find the List Item" section, but I cannot figure out how to do this dynamically from the Form

• How to be sure that my MVC project is runting on the correct version after upgrade to vs2010?

  I just installed visual studio 2010 and upgraded my MVC project (which was running on MVC RC2 in visual studio 2008). visual studio 2010 updated every project file to target the framework 4.0. But the system.web.dll is pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET MVC 2\Assemblies\System.Web.Mvc.dll in VS2010 object browser, I have every dll showing up in multiple versions as expected (3.5.0.0 and 4.0.0.0) except for the System.Web.Mvc dll which doesn't show any version and points to the path I mentioned above. Isn't this namespace point to the Framework folder like the System.Web namespace? C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.0\System.Web.dll

• How do I stop displaying a J2ME MIDP application, just before destroying it?

  I have a J2ME application where the user has the option to dial a phone number from within the application. This should be the last thing the user does with the app, so it should stop displaying anything. My current code: public void callAndExit() { // use a platform-specific request to dial MyMidletThingummy.getInstance().platformRequest( "tel:" + number ); notifyDestroyed(); } The call works just fine, uses the phone's native way of calling, etc. The problem is that, just after the call completes (whenever the user hangs up), my application displays for a split second before being destroyed. Is there something I can do so that I stop displaying the MIDlet (and, say, show the phone's home screen or whatever else it would rather display), then dial out?

  How can I push a mutable pair onto a stack such that i'm only creating one stack. I have some code that works but creates lists within lists within lists.... Here is what I believe should work but throws an error. (define func (arg1 arg2 arg3) // Where arg3 is an empty list (mappend (mcons arg1 arg2) arg3)) The above code complains and says: "mcar: expects argument of type ; given ... • Eclipse: How to build an executable jar with external jar?

  Hi all, I am trying to build an executable jar program which depends on external jar downloaded. In my project, I included them in the build path and can be run and debug within eclipse. When I tried to export it to a jar, I can run the program but I can't when I try to press a button which includes function calls and classes from the external jar. I have edited the environment variables (Windows XP) CLASSPATH to include paths of all the external jar, but it doesn't work. A point to note is that I got compile warnings while exporting my executable jar, but it doesn't show up any description about the warnings. There are three ways Upload to my account in public, private or protected mode Upload to department account in public, private or protected mode Upload to organization account in public, private or protected mode where public is visible to anyone, private to the group or person only and protected to anyone in the organization. All the files for an organization are stored in a directory say, /files/<organizationId>/, on file server like files +-- 234809 | +img1.jpg | +doc1.pdf +-- 808234 | +doc2.pdf I am storing file-path and privacy level in DB. So, I can control whether to show link to a file URL to an user -- on a given page. The problem is, I do not have any control over file's URL... so, if some one types the URL to img1.jpg in his browser's address bar, there is no way to know whether a logged in user is eligible to see img1.jpg. • Displaying images in a console application?!

  I have a console application which screen scrapes some data, and now I need to do image comparisons. If the images are different, I want to show the images to the user. What's the best way to display two images during the execution of a console application? I'm assuming I would use some sort of inter-process communication to send information back and forth, but I'm not sure how exactly I would go about doing that in a good fashion. Also, I'd rather NOT store the images to files if possible. There's no reason to persist the data, and if the console application terminates unexpectedly, it's better if I don't have any dirt left on the file system. Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to accomplish this?

• How do find the longest path in a cyclic Graph between two nodes?

  Hi, I already solved most the questions posted here, all but the longest path one. I've read the Wikipedia article about longest paths and it seems any easy problem if the graph was acyclic, which mine is not. How do I solve the problem then? Brute force, by checking all possible paths? How do I even begin to do that? I know it's going to take A LOT on a Graph with ~18000. But I just want to develop it anyway, cause it's required for the project and I'll just test it and show it to the instructor on a smaller scale graph where the execution time is just a second or two. At least I did all tasks required and I have a running proof of concept that it works but there's no better way on cyclic graphs. But I don't have clue where to start checking all these paths...

• VS2010 + Resharper 5 performance issues

  I have been using VS2010 with Resharper 5 for several weeks and am having a performance issue. Sometimes when typing, the cursor will lag and the keystrokes won't show instantaneously. Also, scrolling will lag at times. There is a forum thread started and JetBrains has been responding. Several people (including myself) have added their voice and uploaded some performance profiles. If anyone here has has this issue, I would encourage you to visit the thread and let JetBrains know about it. Has anyone had this problem and have a suggestion to restore performance?

  Songs on Rap Genius have paths like /lyrics/The-notorious-b-i-g-ft-mase-and-puff-daddy/Mo-money-mo-problems which are defined in routes.rb as: map.song '/lyrics/:artist_slug/:title_slug', :controller => 'songs', :action => 'show' When I want to generate such a path, I use song_url(:title_slug => song.title_slug, :artist_slug => song.artist_slug). However, I'd much prefer to be able to type song_url(some_song). Is there a way I can make this happen besides defining a helper like: def x_song_path(song) song_path(:title_slug => song.title_slug, :artist_slug => song.artist_slug) end

• Updates to NSDictionary attribute in CoreData not saving

  I have created an Entity in CoreData that includes a Transformable attribute type implemented as an NSDictionary. The NSDictionary attribute only contains values of a custom class. The properties of the custom class are all of type NSString. The custom class complies with NSCoding implementing: -(void)encodeWithCoder:(NSCoder*)coder; -(id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)coder When saving the Entity for the first time all attributes including the Transformable (NSDictionary) type are properly saved in the DB. When the same Entity is fetched from the DB and updated (including the Transformable attribute) it seems to be updated properly. However, when the app is closed and then reopened fetching the Entity does not show the updated Transformable attribute-type though the rest of the attributes of type NSDate and NSString are up-to-date. The Transformable attribute is the original saved value not the updated value. Is this a problem with KVO or am I missing something else when trying to save an NSDictionary filled with a custom class to CoreData?

• Strategy in exporting to Excel with formatting from ASP.NET?

  So this is another exporting to Excel question. I have a page that has a table with formatting by stylesheet. When I export the page by setting the ContentType to application/excel and Content-Disposition to attachment, I can export the table to Excel (not CSV). However, it loses all formatting. I think it's because Excel does not load CSS and I guess that's reasonable. So, in a scenario where I have to show the table on the web and also export to Excel, both with similar (even if not exact) formatting, what would be the best approach without using something like NPOI? I am trying to minimize the work and keep the single template if possible. Is it necessary for me to create two separate templates: one with stylesheet, the other with embedded style in the table itself for Excel? Having a single template with conditional formatting inside would be very messy. Any ideas?

  Hi guys, I am try to create a JSP page that will show all the status in a group of local servers. Currently I create a schedule class that will constantly poll to check the status of the server with 30 second interval, with 5 second delay to wait for each server reply, and provide the JSP page with the information. However I find this way to be not accurate as it will take some time before the information of the schedule class to be updated. Do you guys have a better way to check the status of several server within a local network?

• Start Activity with an animation

  I am trying to start an activity with a custom transition animation. The only way I have found out so far to do this (without using onPendingTransition() in the previous activity) is to use a custom theme on the activity and define either activityOpenEnterAnimation, taskOpenEnterAnimation, windowEnterAnimation or windowAnimationStyle to set the animation. But, none of these attributes are working for me. Some experimentation yielded the following results- If I set the windowAnimationStyle attribute to some custom style which defines values for activityOpenEnterAnimation, taskOpenEnterAnimation, windowEnterAnimation or windowAnimationStyle I can get rid of the default transition animation occurring at the start of the activity. It doesn't show the transition animation using the actual value specified but at least the default animation is not shown. According to the reference doc here, http://developer.android.com/reference/android/R.attr.html I should be able to define an animation at the start of the activity using activityOpenEnterAnimation. But no success so far. Any ideas?

• VIM: created syntax not showing up?

  HI people I recently changed to VIM for coding in C. I'd like to hightlight the operators +-<=& ... etc I searched in google how should i do it, and i found the answer in this website: I was suppose to do something like: syntax match Operadores /[][><()&!|+*={}-]/ hi Operadores guifg=#000000 gui=BOLD Those characters were supposed to appear as black, bold characters. However, that doesn't happen when I open my .C files. However, if I create a newfile, (where there the C syntax doesn't show up), I am able to see the black, bolded operators. How can i correct this situation, and why is this happening (it seams like if my syntax is beeing overwrided by the C syntax). I'm using gvim, and this is my vimrc: colorscheme nicotine set smartindent set number set guifont=Inconsolata\ Medium\ 11 set numberwidth=5 noremap j jzz noremap k kzz Thanks, any help is appreciated.   I would like to schedule a batch job in which a can execute a move of data between two workspace application in Hyperion Fusion Edition for Oracle. The tool provided is called 'Data Synchronization' This tool allows for this type if activity to occur upon request via the workspace environment. How might I do this automatically? I noticed there is a Batch Scheduler for which I can request command line batch file to run at a pre-specified time. However, I do not know what resources are available to show me how to do this for the Data-Synchronizations.

  I am new to ruby and rails and I am having a problem from Beggining Ruby on Rails Ecommerce. (Yes, its an old book). • Progressive Enhancement with box-shadow

  I would like to use WebKit's box-shadow css property for a little drop-down. The code would look like: .drop_down{ -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px #888; box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px #888; } However, for browsers that do not have this capability, I would like to use borders to approximate this drop shadow, like so: .drop_down{ border-top: 1px solid #bbb; border-left: 1px solid #bbb; border-right: 2px solid #bbb; border-bottom: 2px solid #bbb; } The problem is, I don't want the border-based shadow to show up for the browsers that DO support box-shadow. I would like to avoid browser sniffing because I assume it's hard to cover all the cases. What is the simplest way to do this? I prefer a javascript-less solution, but I will consider simple javascript-based ones too.

• [JS] XMLHttpRequest problem

  I am trying to do "POST" with XMLHttpRequest in a firefox extension, and after that I try to get the "Location" header and open it in a new tab. For some reason, the XMLHttpRequest doesn't contain a location header. My code function web(url,request) { var http = new XMLHttpRequest(); http.open('POST',url,true); http.setRequestHeader('Content-Type','application/x-www-form-urlencoded'); http.onreadystatechange=function() { if(http.readyState == 2) { alert(http.getResponseHeader("Location")); } } http.send(request); } Also, if I change the alert to getAllResponseHeaders() to see all headers, I just don't see the location header there. If I try to spy on the request of the original site with Firebug, it does show me the location header in the response. Please help me resolve my issues. Thanks :) P.S. I'm also unable to open a link in new tab using window.open(url, this.window.title);, but as that's not directly related to the rest of this I'll post a separate question to ask about it.
