    I'm using urlfetch from google app engine, but it keeps going to the redirected final page even though I use: result = urlfetch.fetch(classUrl, payload=None, method=urlfetch.GET, headers={}, allow_truncated=False, follow_redirects=False) E.g. if classUrl was a searched term in Google (https://www.google.com/search?q=setInstanceFollowRedirects()+python&oq=setInstanceFollowRedirects()+python&sugexp=chrome,mod=0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) it would redirect me to www.google.com How do I stop this redirection? Thanks!

  • Best Platform/Engine for turn based Client/Server Android game

    I'm currently designing a turn based game for tablets. Initially for Android with porting to iOS later considered in design. I'm having trouble narrowing down the available technologies to even know where to spend my research time. I am hoping that if I explain what I am trying to achieve someone may be able to suggest a platform and/or engine. I've looked into some of the open source Engines ( http://www.cuteandroid.com/ten-open-source-android-2d-or-3d-game-engine-for-android-developers ) and some appear to handle much of what I might require - although with a higher focus on graphics than i need. Mages looks interesting although development appears to have ceased. If I could somehow leverage GoogleApps that would be excellent. Here is what I am trying to achieve: PvP turn based strategy game over internet - minimal animation and bandwidth required Players match up online using MetaGame system MatchID created on Resolution Server and Game starts Clients have 30 second countdown to select MoveString Clients sends small secure timestamped and MatchIDed MoveString to Resolution server Resolution server looks up Move String for each player, Resolves and Updates Players status in MatchID on Server Resolution server updates Client Views Repeat until victory conditions met - MatchID Closed, Rewards earned in MetaGame There will also need to be a full social and account system and metagame backend - but this could be running on separate system(s) Tablet in Offline mode would be catalog browsing and perhaps single player AI - bum I'm focusing on the Resolution Server at this point I'm not even certain if I would be looking at an Android App or a WebApp at this stage! I want a custom GUI so I guess an app - but maybe as I have little animation a WebApp might also work. Probably some combination of both. There will be very small overhead in data between client server - essentially a small text string every 30 seconds sent to the Resolution server which looks up the Effect and applies it to the Opponents string and determines some results to apply to the match. The client view is updated minimally with the results (only 5 in game Integers tracked) - perhaps triggering small animations/popups on the client to show the end result. e.g Explosion. If you have suggestions for a good technology or platform to best achieving the Resolution Server I'd love to hear. Also if you have experience with open source Engines - and could narrow down which (if any ) might be most suitable that would be a big help. Thanks in advance

  • Rails app returns HTTP 422 for new ServerAlias - Internet Explorer only

    I have a long-standing Rails app running on Mac OS X (apache2). The set-up uses Apache virtual hosts and Passenger. The Rails app also uses HTTP Basic Authentication. I need to migrate the app from one url domain to another - with some overlap of both domain names being accessible simultaneously for a period. To do this, I've added the new domain name as a ServerAlias of the existing domain name in the Passenger Virtual Host config. I can now Browse the Rails app using both the legacy url, and the new url from any of Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer. I can also 'HTTP post' updates to the Rails app using Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. All good. Except, attempts to post updates from Internet Explorer result in the Rails app rejecting the update, The Rails app log contains the message, ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken (ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken): I have other domains & aliases working just fine on this same machine. Any suggestions as to what is causing the Rails app to reject posts from IE would be appreciated.

  • How do I start nginx on port 80 at OS X login?

    I installed Nginx using homebrew and after completing the installation the following message was displayed: In the interest of allowing you to run `nginx` without `sudo`, the default port is set to localhost:8080. If you want to host pages on your local machine to the public, you should change that to localhost:80, and run `sudo nginx`. You'll need to turn off any other web servers running port 80, of course. You can start nginx automatically on login running as your user with: mkdir -p ~/Library/LaunchAgents cp #{prefix}/org.nginx.nginx.plist ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ launchctl load -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/org.nginx.nginx.plist Though note that if running as your user, the launch agent will fail if you try to use a port below 1024 (such as http's default of 80.) But I want Nginx, on port 80, running at login and I don't want to have to open terminal and type in sudo nginx to do it. I want it to load from a plist file like Redis and PostgreSQL do. I moved the plist to /Library/LaunchAgents/ from the user folder equivalent and changed its ownership, also tried setting the user directive in the nginx.conf file and still the same error message in Console.app: nginx: [emerg] bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (13: Permission denied) (along with another message telling me that since nginx was being run without super-user privileges, the user directive was being ignored)

    How do I start using twill? I have just downloaded it, unpacked it and clicked on the setup .py file in the folder. The black window (terminal) appeared for a moment and vanished. (I do have Python 2.5 installed on my computer - along with SDK from Google App Engine) In the twill documentation section it says: Downloading twill The latest release of twill is twill 0.9, released Thursday, December 27th, 2007; it is available for download at http://darcs.idyll.org/~t/projects/twill-0.9.tar.gz. You can also use Python's easy_install to install or upgrade twill. twill works with Python 2.3 or later. To start using twill, install it and then type twill-sh. He had presented a fantastic session in our last UG and there were lots of requests from attendees that he blogs about it. Well, here is the blog post about the same very popular UG session. Let us read the entire blog post in the voice of the Balmukund himself. During my last session in SQL Bangalore User Group (Facebook) meeting, I was lucky enough to deliver a session on SQL Server Startup issue. The name of the session was “SQL Engine Starting Trouble – How to start?” From the feedback, I realized that one of the “not well known” startup parameter is “-m”. Okay, you might say “I know that this is used to start the SQL in single user mode”. But what you might not know is that you can pass a string with -m which has special meaning and use. I have used this parameter in my blog here but looks like not many of you have seen that. It happens most of the time when we want to start SQL Server in single user mode, someone else makes connection before you can. The only choice you have is to repeat same process again till you succeed. Some smart DBAs may disable the remote network protocols (TCP/IP and Named Pipes) of SQL Instance and allow only local connections to SQL. Once the activity is complete, our dear smart DBA has to remember to re-enable network protocols. Sometimes, it may be a local service or application getting connection to SQL before we can. There is a better way to deal with it. Yes, you have guessed it correctly: -m parameter which a string. Since I work with SQL Product Support team, I may know little more undocumented commands and parameters, but this is not an undocumented stuff. It’s already documented in books online. So in this blog, I am going to show a demo of its usage. As documentation shows, “Do not use this option as a security feature.” So please read this blog as knowledge enhancer and troubleshooting issues not security feature. In my laptop, I have a default instance of SQL Server 2012 and here is what we would in the configuration manager. Now, I would go ahead and stop SQL Service by selecting SQL Server (MSSQLServer) > Right Click > Stop. There are multiple ways to start SQL with startup parameter. 1) Use Net Start Command from command prompt Net Start MSSQLServer /mSQLCMD The above command is the simplest way to add startup parameter to SQL. This parameter would be cleared once we stop and start SQL. 2) Add Startup Parameter via configuration manager. Step is already listed here. We need to add -mSQLCMD If we compare 1 and 2, it’s clear that unless we modify startup parameter and remove -m, it would be in effect. 3) Start SQL Service via command line SQLServr.exe –mSQLCMD –s<InstanceName> Wait, what does SQLCMD mean with /m? It’s the instruction to SQL that start SQL Server in Single User Mode and allow only the application which is SQLCMD. Any other application would fail with Login Failed for User Error message. It would be important to note that string is case sensitive. This value should be picked up from application_name column from sys.dm_exec_sessions. I have made a connection using SQLCMD and as we can see it comes as upper case “SQLCMD”. If we want only management studio query windows to connect then we need to give -m” Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio – Query” as startup parameter. In below example, I have given it as SQLCMd (lower case d at the end) and we would notice that we would not be able to connect to SQL Instance. Above proves that parameter works as expected and it’s case sensitive. Error Log would show below information. How to get error log location? I have already blogged about it.   • Silverlight running in IE kiosk mode

    Hi, We are having a weird problem where by we are running a silveright application in IE8 kiosk mode, the shortcut is added to windows startup. The silverlight app runs on localhost. It all works fine until you reboot, IE displays "navigation to the webpage was canceled" when it loads. Yet the shortcut works fine, if you close IE and manually go into the startup folder and run the shortcut, or run the same shortcut from the desktop. I assume there is some sort of timing issue but have no idea what. Tried using 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost incase DNS hadn't been properly initialised at that point or something. Maybe an IIS initialisation problem? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your time

    Hello! I'm running the micro framework Bottle on Google App Engine. I'm using Jinja2 for my templates. And I'm using Beaker to handle the sessions. I'm still a pretty big Python newbie and am pretty stoked I got this far :) My question is how do I access the session data within the templates? I can get the session data no problem within the actual python code. And I could pass the session data each time I call a jinja template. But since I need the session data in the main menu bar of the site... that means I would have to pass it on every single page. Does anyone know if I can access it directly in the templates? For example I need the session data for my header links: Home | FAQ | Login or Home | FAQ | Logout Any help is greatly appreciated! :D

    When running our Silverlight 3 application out-of-browser, startup takes a little time, but it's long enough to be noticeable. During this startup, the background of the window hosting the application displays an ugly white background color. When running in-browser, we have a splash screen, but that's loaded via JavaScript of course. How can I get a splash screen working for an out-of-browser Silverlight 3? Or if that's not possible, is there a way I can at least change the background color of the window?

    I was uploading the data to App Engine (not dev server) through loader class and remote api, and I hit the quota in the middle of a CSV file. Based on logs and progress sqllite db, how can I select remaining portion of data to be uploaded? Going through tens of records to determine which was and which was not transfered, is not appealing task, so I look for some way to limit the number of record I need to check.   • Is there only one distribution certificate per team leader or one per application?

    I'm confused by the dev and dist cert. I got one app in the store, but I named my certs after my first app. Was this a mistake? I'm ready to go on my second app. But XCode is selected the dist cert with the old app name on it. It built without error. Though I named it wrong, will it still work? XCode is automatically picking this cert for me. Is this right? You need a new app ID for each app so you can 1) put in plist, 2) put in code signing section on Build tab of Target info, but you don't need a new dev and dist cert for each new app. Therefore is this right too? For each app you develop, you only need your original dev and dist cert, but a new app ID for each app. This is so obscure! I wish apple had done a better job!

    A question that seems to have quite a few options for Python, but none for Java after googling for two days. Really really could use some help all I have found so far is a recommendation to use gaeVFS to build an excel file from the xml components and then zip it all together which sounds like a slap in the face. Oh yes and if you were wondering I am questioning my use of Java rather than python but at 5,000 lines of code it would be insane to turn back now... Other things you might find useful Client: GWT Server: Servlets running on google app engine storing data into the google data store Excel file: mandatory, CSV isn't good enough, no need to save the file just to be able to "serve" it to the client i.e. open a "Save As" box.

    What is the preferred way of using GAE datastore PersistenceManager for web app? GAE instructions are a bit ambiguous on the matter. Do I instantiate PersistenceManagerFactory for each RPC call, or do I use only one factory for all requests? Do I call PMF.get().getPersistenceManager(), or do I call PMF.get().getPersistenceManagerProxy()? Do I close PM after each RPC call, or do I leave it open? What are you guys doing? Furthermore, I'm not certain how GAE handles 30-second-per-request limit. Is it even possible to reference the same PM between requests?
