  • How to uniquely identify a monitor?

    I'm working on a project where I take screenshots of individual monitors (TMonitor) and stream their images through network (remote desktop viewing). Suppose a monitor is added/removed (which I can recognize this already), I need to synchronize which monitor this happened to. Because, suppose there's 3 monitors, indexes 0, 1, 2. Monitor 1 is removed. I don't want to automatically change index 2 to 1, I want it to maintain an ID at all times. Is there any property I can recognize in the TMonitor class (Screen.Monitors[i]) to uniquely identify it?

    What is "bleeding edge" these days? has it all been done before us, and we are just discovering new ways of implementing mathematical constructs within programming? Functional Programming seems to be making inroads in all areas, but is this just marketing to create interest in a programming arena where it appears that the state of the art has climaxed too soon. have the sales men got hold of the script, and selling ideas that can be sold, dumbing down the future? I see very old ideas making their way into the market place....what are the truly new things that should be considered fresh and new in 2010 onwards, and not some 1960-1980 idea being refocused.

  • Writing complex records to file

    Hi I have defined some records in my project which may be consisted of other records and also dynamic arrays of normal data types and other records , it is n example of a record type Type1=record x:integer; end; Type2=record Y:array of X; str:string; end; When I tried to save one of variables of these records type to file with blockwrite function like this : var Temp1:Type2; begin setlength(temp1.y,100); blockwrite(MyFile,Temp1,sizeOf(Temp1); it just wrote as much as the size of pure record is ,but temp1 has a dynmic arrays which is resized , Could someone please tell me how I can write a complex record to a file , I mean something like what is used in VB6 .     In our D2007 application we are using a Webservice, accessed with a THTTPRIO object. When the TDatamodule containing the THTTPRIO object is Destroyed an access violation occurs. This AV is raised when the TSoapDOMConvert is freed, which in turn executes: TRefCache(RefMap[0].Instance).Free calling destructor TRefCache.Destroy; begin FHREFs.Free; FMHREFs.Free; FNodes := nil; //Causes AV end; FNodes is a TInterfaceList containing one reference to IXMLNodes, but the object seems to have been freed before all this. Does anyone know this problem? How to solve it?

    I created in my app 2 toolbars. Because I wanted to be able to drag them, I put both TToolBar components inside a TControlBar. I this case I can move them, but I want to be able to drag them like in MS Office (drag a toolbar from top and put it left, right or at bottom of the window and save it's position)....     I have a table with many fields and additionally several boolean fields (ex: BField1, BField2, BField3 etc.). I need to make a Select Query, which will select all fields except for boolean ones, and a new virtual field (ex: FirstTrueBool) whose value will equal to the name of the first TRUE Boolean Field. For ex: Say I have BField1 = False, BField2 = True, BField3 = true, BField4=false, in that case SQL Query should set [FirstTrueBool] to "BField2". Is that possible? Thank you in advance. P.S. I use Microsoft Access (MDB) Database and Jet Engine.

    Are there any rules / guidelines for DATA form XLS sheets to be inserted into SQL- DB? I have a group of Excel templates in 2005.Each concerned cell in Excel template is named. When Excel sheets are filled, saved and submitted , the values are transferred to the database. Excel sheets have names for various cells that are to b e filled by the user EX:- for the total number of Milk in the Beginning a given month , there is an Excel Cell Named "mtsBpiPTR180" Total number of Milk in the Ending a given month , there is an Excel Cell Named **"mtsEpiPTR180"** I have added 2 new cells , named "mtsBpiPTR180PA" and "mtsEpiPTR180PA". Now I try to upload the Excel File. But I AM UNABLE TO SEE MY FILLED DATA FROM "mtsBpiPTR180PA" and "mtsEpiPTR180PA" INTO THE RELATED DB/table. The above 2 are empty in the DB/table, even though I have filled them and successfully filed the Excel sheets Now no matter how much I search in the DB/stored procs i am unable to the ACTUAL STORED PROC or how the Data form Excel sheet is inserted into Tables WHERE DATA FROM XLS is inserted into DB. So was wondering:- Are there any rules / guidelines for DATA form XLS sheets to be inserted into SQL- DB?

    Is there a way to show subnode if the parent node is hidden in the Virtual String Tree ? I have some tasks in the tree structure and I wish to display only tasks which belongs to the current user as the list, but from all levels. What I've done is the function to display a list, which hides tree buttons, tree lines, sets the fixed indent and enable toShowHiddenNodes option. Then in this function I iterate through the whole tree (all levels) and hide nodes which doesn't belong to the current user IsVisible[Node] := False and show those which belongs him IsVisible[Node] := True, but the subnodes which should be displayed are invisible when their parent is hidden. VT.TreeOptions.PaintOptions - toShowButtons - toShowTreeLines + toFixedIndent + toShowHiddenNodes

    Hi, We have an application whose virtual memory rises and keep going for over a day. After two days it has climbed to about 500MB. I have tried profiling the applications which hits a database as well as makes lots of http and soap requests but I Fastmm4 shows there are no leaks. I am not sure how or when memory is claimed and if there is a problem here with the rising virtual memory? JD

    Hi I do have three dlls. a.dll - released many years ago b.dll - released not so many years c.dll - released shortly Each one contains the same function - unfortunatelly with different parameters. so I do have the following Methods aMethod(param1) aMethod(param1, param2) aMethod(param1, param2, param3) My Task is to make a new dll (or new dlls) wich is backward compatible. But as far as I've learned from Google there is no possibility to overload methods in a dll. Does any one have a tip how I can solve this problem elegantly? -- Michael

    I have an application loading CAD data (Custom format), either from the local filesystem specifing an absolute path to a drawing or from a database. Database access is realized through a library function taking the drawings identifier as a parameter. the identifiers have a format like ABC 01234T56-T, while my paths a typical windows Paths (eg x:\Data\cadfiles\cadfile001.bin). I would like to write a wrapper function Taking a String as an argument which can be either a path or an identifier which calls the appropriate functions to load my data. Like this: Function CadLoader(nameOrPath : String):TCadData; My Question: How can I elegantly decide wether my string is an idnetifier or a Path to a file? Use A regexp? Or just search for '\' and ':', which are not appearing in the Identifiers?
