• Android ImageButton / Custom-Button?

  Hi everyone, I am new to android development. So far I could help myself in all matters by reading threads here on stackoverflow. Now I am stuck and need someones help. Unfortunately I am not allowed to post an image of a screenshot because I am a new mamber, so I try to descripe it. I have a Samsung Galasy S and the clock app that ships with it has an button called "+ Create alarm". I want to create a similar button for my app. I've been experimenting with ImageButton. I do know how to get that "+"-Icon onto an ImageButton, but only centered and without text. I guess this is a custom button. Does anyone know how to do this? Can I do it in xml or do I need to extend the view-class and make it my own view?

• Design patter for extending Android's activities?

  While programming on Android, I end up writing a parent activity which is extended by several others. A bit like ListActivity. My parent activity extends Activity. if I intend to use a Map or a List, I can't use my parent activity as superclass - the child activity can only extend one activity obviously. As such I end up writing my parent activities with the same logic for Activity, ListActivity, MapActivity and so forth. What am I looking for is some sort of trait functionality/design pattern which would help in this case. Any suggestions?

• Real-world examples of populating a GWT CellTable using a clean MVP pattern?

  We are using the GWT-Presenter framework and attempting to use CellTable to put together an updateable grid. It seems as though several of the GWT constructs for CellTable don't lend themselves to easily breaking up the logic into clean view and presenter code. Examples: 1) Within the View's constructor, the CellTable is defined and each column is created by anonymous inner classes that extend the Column class to provide the onValue() method. 2) The FieldUpdater interface must be implemented to provide logic to execute when a user alters data in a cell. This seems like it would best fit in the Presenter's onBind() method, but FieldUpdaters often need access to the Cell or Column which belong in the view. CellTable does not have accessor methods to get hold of the Columns or Cells, so it seems the only way for the Presenter to get them is for me to create a multitude of member variables on the View and accessors on my Display interface. Can anyone provide good examples for dealing with CellTable in GWT-Presenter or a comparable MVP

• IE 6 dropdown selection area too narrow

  Hi, I have a dropdown menu with the width set to 142px however the selection area when you drop down the menu needs to be larger as it has text that exceeds this width. Firefox (and most modern browsers) is clever and extends the selection area to fit in this text. However IE 6 and unchecked newer versions of IE do not show this text and keep the selection area the same width as the dropdown unclicked. The problem lies here, how can I get IE to extend the selection area where you click the selection you want without increasing the width of the dropdown area with out the dropdown selection showing. • Determining if two rays intersect

  I have two rays on a 2D plane that extend to infinity but both have a starting point. They are both described by a starting point and a vector in the direction of the ray extending to infinity. I want to find out if the two rays intersect but i don't need to know where they intersect (its part of a collision detection algorithm). Everything i have looked at so far describes finding the intersection point of two lines or line segments. Anyone know a fast algorithm to solve this?

I'm guessing it is because if num is not the right way to test if num is an empty string. Am I on the right track, or is there a better/easier way to extend swap-sign?

• C++: Overload != When == Overloaded

  Say I have a class where I overloaded the operator == as such: Class A { ... public: bool operator== (const A &rhs) const; ... }; ... bool A::operator== (const A &rhs) const { .. return isEqual; } I already have the operator == return the proper Boolean value. Now I want to extend this to the simple opposite (!=). I would like to call the overloaded == operator and return the opposite, i.e. something of the nature bool A::operator!= (const A &rhs) const { return !( this == A ); } Is this possible? I know this will not work, but it exemplifies what I would like to have. I would like to keep only one parameter for the call: rhs. Any help would be appreciated, because I could not come up with an answer after several search attempts.

• Hibernate Annotation for Entity existing in more than 1 catalog

  I have a Person entity mapped by Hibernate to a database table in a database catalog "Active". After a period of time, records in this database table in the "Active" catalog are archived/moved to an exact copy of the table in a database Catalog "History". I have the need to retrieve from both the Active and History Catalogs. Is there a better way to model this with Hibernate annotations than making an abstract class that 2 classes extend from.   I'm using two plugins on my wordpress site: Auto post youtube Pulls a youtube video then drafts it for me. I use this on my index page beside the post code and the thumbnail appears great: <?php tern_wp_youtube_image(); ?> Top Ten Which I use to display the most viewed posts on a page. Not looking great at the moment, but will fix styling later. My approach: user X have an account at the existing Rails app. With these login data the user X should authenticate on my Rails app. The existing app offers a gem to connect to the API after login. • UserControl that is also a Grid in WPF

  I would like to create a UserControl that will have some behavior(animated collapsing...) and some Controls in it (Rectangle, Ellipse, mostly for design purposes). However I need it to be a valid Panel like Grid so I can put more controls in it when designing main window. Controls that will be add to the new USerControl in main window design time does not need to interact with components that are added to it when creating a UserControl. How should I do this ? Do I have to extends Control? I'd prefer to extend just UserControl.

• Conditionally setting the font color of an item in a drop down box in JSF

  I'm a newbie to web programming, so please bear with me. I am using JSF 1.2 and I want to conditionally set the color of the items in my drop down list. In other words, I have a collection of items that, along with a key and a value, also have a boolean property, warning, that is dynamically set by user action. I want the drop down to show all of the items, but those whose warning property is set to true should be displayed in red. I assume I have to extend the SelectItem class to add in the boolean property. How do I then conditionally set the color of the font of those items whose warning property is set to true in my JSP pages? Thanks in advance

  If you extend SQLiteOpenHelper, for the Constructor you have to use a Context. I am wondering if there is a way to leave this out, and be able to work with database tables without a Context. Or at least be least restrictive, I mean a way of project/class structure that will make history the several context passings I have to do now. As it is my application has several level of classes, chained in each other, and there are a few that connects to the database, but have no whatsoever influence on the interface, so they don't actually need the Context. Are you creating your classes in the way that you pass each time a Context to them? If not, how you do, how you reuse a Context in a short class?

• How to create GUI as inner class with WindowBuilder

  I would like to use WindowBuilder in Eclipse to construct Swing GUIs. The JPanels I need to build will be inner classes in a non-GUI wrapper, like so: public class MyWrapper extends MyBaseClass { ... class MyPanel extends JPanel { ... } } So my question is this: can I construct MyPanel using WindowBuilder? If so, how should I set it up? If anyone is interested, the wrapper is an abstract base class which the plug-ins I am developing for my app must extend; deployment concerns mean that it's not really practical to put the GUIs in a separate JAR either so I pretty much have to do it this way. My current workflow, which is awful, is to build the GUI in NetBeans and paste the entire generated class into Eclipse where I connect it up to the methods in my wrapper. I am very hopeful that WindowBuilder will let me work more reliably and efficiently if I can trick it into generating code in MyPanel, not MyWrapper. Thanks

  Hi, I have a view that I want to extend on the left side using an animation. All borders but the left one should remain the same, so the x position and the width of the view are changing. I use this code: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:5.0]; self.frame = CGRectMake(self.frame.origin.x-100, self.frame.origin.y, self.frame.size.width+100, self.frame.size.height); [UIView commitAnimations]; If I run this code, the width of the view is set to the new value immediately and then the view is moved to the new x point, but why?   I am trying to create an app that allows multiple search requests to occur whilst maintaining use of the user interface to allow interaction. For the multiple search requests, I initially only had one search request running with user interaction still capable by using a backgroundworker to do this. Now I need to extend these functions by allowing more search functions and basically just queueing them up. I am not sure whether to use multiple backgroundworkers or use the threadpool since I want to be able to know the progress of each search job at any time.

• Interface naming convention

  This is a subjective thing of course, but I don't see anything positive in prefixing interface names with an 'I'. To me, Thing is practically always more readable than IThing. My question is, why does this convention exist then? Sure, it makes it easier to tell interfaces from other types. But wouldn't that argument extend to retaining the Hungarian notation, which is now widely censured? What's your argument for that awkward 'I'? Or, more importantly, what could be Microsoft's?

• Vertical line problem in the detail section of Crystal report

  Hello, I have a little problem with the vertical lines in Detail section. In detail section at the end there is horizontal line. Also I have Report Footer section which displays total number of records. I suppressed Page Footer section. I would like end all the vertical lines to the last line of the records not to extend beyond the "Total"(Report Footer). It works fine if everything on the same page. The problem starts when the last line of the detail is on the first page and the "Total" wouldn't fit on the first page. It displays "Total" on the second page and it draws vertical lines to the end of the page. Thanks for any suggestion.

However, how do you specify this specific 'click' registration AND pass in a local variable as the _onClick parameter at the same time? As an aside, why do you even have to specify 'click', when the API states that handler always pertains to a click? Is this additional information not unnecessary?

• Suspend TimerTask until the next execution

  I am using a TimerTask to run some periodic tasks, the task being processing a set of files. I have a requirement where if the number of files to be processed exceeds a pre-determined limit, the thread suspends execution and waits till the next cycle to start processing the files again. Is there a way to suspend the TimerTask until the next execution period or do I have to extend the TimerTask class to achieve this functionality? I saw there is a TimerTask.cancel method, but this will cancel all further executions of this thread. I don't want this to happen. I just want the thread to be suspended until the next execution period. I don't have the luxury of moving to any of the other concurrent classes in Java as our framework uses TimerTask, and I have to stick with it. Any suggestions, pointers or tips are greatly appreciated. thanks, Asha

• Fallback to another exiting MIME type when the required is missing in Rails

  I want to extend the exiting supported HTML type of my site by support for iPhone. For this I registered a new MIME type. I created a layout for iphone and also converted some of the html views to iphone version. However, I did not convert all of the html.erb-s. I do not see the reason to convert all views, some of them should not change, some partials simply just remain the same. I guess there should be a solution for this case. I tried to search for ways how to fallback to an existing format, but did not find any answer. Does a way to define fallback for MIME types in Rails exist? How does it work? If it doesn't exist and thus I wanted to solve the issue not the right way, what could simply solve the task of extending an existing site by another format? Thanks for your suggestions.
