  • Different results coming out of an init method than those expected. Why does this happen and how can

    - by Mark Reid
When I run this method the two properties I have are set to (NULL) when I try and access them outside of the if statement. But they are set to 0 and NO if I check them inside the for loop. -(id) init { NSLog(@"Jumping into the init method!"); if (self = [super init]) { NSLog(@"Running the init method extras"); accumulator = 0; NSLog(@"self.accumulator is %g", accumulator); decimal = NO; } NSLog(@"Calc after init is: %@ and %@", self.accumulator, self.decimal); return self; } Any suggestions as to why what comes out is different from what's done in the for loop?

  • how do you create a simple obejctice-c command line project in xcode

    - by Mark
im moving from a c# VS2008 world into the mac world and I just wanted to know how I can create a quick little command line based application so that I can write many little objective-c apps without worrying about creating an iPhone app or whatever. Which projects do I create in xcode? I can see the Command Line Tool under "Mac os x" but the only options for the type is "C", "C++", "Core Data", "Core Foundation", "Core Services" and "Foundation" but no simple objective c project? Thanks

  • VS 2010: Can't insert snippet using shortcut - incompatibility with resharper 5???

    - by mark smith
Hi there, i recently installed some snippets that come with a framework i am using. And sure enought i checked via Tools > Code Snippet Manager and they are installed under "My Code Snippets". If i do insert Snipper (right click in code window) or CTRL K + CTRL X then i can search within all available snippets.... But i do believe its possible to just type the shortcut key (in this case it is mvvmlocatorproperty) and pressing tab inserts the snippet BUT when i type the shortcut key it is not recognizing anything... What am i doing wrong?? This is not an incompatibility with resharper 5? - which i have installed Any ideas really appreciated

  • What is the cheapest non-colocation way to serve about 10 static files at a rate of 100 megabits per

    - by Mark Maunder
I've looked at Amazon S3 and it costs roughly $4746 per month for 100 megabits/s (which translates into 31,640 Gigabytes of data transferred. That's at a rate of $0.15 per gig.) I haven't found a cheaper "cloud" option. I'm curious if there's any other cloud hosting option out there cheaper than S3. Uptime is not an issue because I can build failover for most things into the browser. e.g. I can use javascript to say "if the image didn't load then go to this other URL instead." FYI I'm currently using a colocation facility which is about 30% cheaper than S3 and I'm familiar with colo prices - so this question is really about "cloud" services and by that I mean services where I don't have to worry about the infrastructure.

  • jquery load php file - result is not complete

    - by Mark Nolan
    I'm trying to load or better reload a DIV with content from an included php file. so the file is included in the webadmin.php from the location webadmin/pages.php. Then i alter some data in the DB through serializing. Now I would like to reload the pages.php from the callback of the serialize POST with load();. This all works fine up until the moment the data is supposed to be displayed in the div - i believe its because the php file is loaded from a different location, so the include paths for the DB Connection etc are probably wrong... Should I really write an extra PHP File for jquery or is there a way to tell jquery where to load it from? Its the first time I'm doing this - so bear with me for a moment on this one... Thanks! I guess it wont be much use, but heres the load code: $("#right").load("webadmin/pages.php");

  • Not compile code blocks when publishing?

    - by Menno Gouw
I have many lines i just use for debugging and helpers. Is there a way i can mark these so they do not compile when publishing a project but still can use when running/debugging my program within Eclipse? Even better would be to mark a certain field as debug only and discard everything that has to do with that field completely when publishing. I understand this might get one in trouble when using fields like that and using that in critical parts of the code. But i often find myself initializing a lot of debug fields then comment them out which results in errors down the line if i do not comment those out as well. So is there some way to handle this in a better and more efficient way?

  • drupal jQuery 1.4 on specific pages

    - by Mark
I'm looking for a way to force drupal to use 1.4 on specific pages. This is the same as this old question:http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2842792/drupal-jquery-1-4-on-specific-pages It look me a while to try the answer which I marked correct. But because I'm new to module dev overall I couldn't figure it out based on the answer. The code from that answer looked like this: /** * Implementation of hook_theme_registry_alter(). * Based on the jquery_update module. * * Make this page preprocess function runs *last*, * so that a theme can't call drupal_get_js(). */ function MYMODULE_theme_registry_alter(&$theme_registry) { if (isset($theme_registry['page'])) { // See if our preprocess function is loaded, if so remove it. if ($key = array_search('MYMODULE_preprocess_page', $theme_registry['page']['preprocess functions'])) { unset($theme_registry['page']['preprocess functions'][$key]); } // Now add it on at the end of the array so that it runs last. $theme_registry['page']['preprocess functions'][] = 'MYMODULE_preprocess_page'; } } /** * Implementation of moduleName_preprocess_hook(). * Based on the jquery_update module functions. * * Strips out JS and CSS for a path. */ function MYMODULE_preprocess_page(&$variables, $arg = 'my_page', $delta=0) { // I needed a one hit wonder. Can be altered to use function arguments // to increase it's flexibility. if(arg($delta) == $arg) { $scripts = drupal_add_js(); $css = drupal_add_css(); // Only do this for pages that have JavaScript on them. if (!empty($variables['scripts'])) { $path = drupal_get_path('module', 'admin_menu'); unset($scripts['module'][$path . '/admin_menu.js']); $variables['scripts'] = drupal_get_js('header', $scripts); } // Similar process for CSS but there are 2 Css realted variables. // $variables['css'] and $variables['styles'] are both used. if (!empty($variables['css'])) { $path = drupal_get_path('module', 'admin_menu'); unset($css['all']['module'][$path . '/admin_menu.css']); unset($css['all']['module'][$path . '/admin_menu.color.css']); $variables['styles'] = drupal_get_css($css); } } } I need the jquery_update 1.3.2 to be unset on the node-types of 'blog' and 'video'. Can someone help me out? Thank you.

  • What does the C# operator => mean?

    - by Mr. Mark
Answers to a recent post (Any chances to imitate times() Ruby method in C#?) use the = operator in the usage examples. What does this operator do? I can't locate it in my C# book, and it is hard to search for symbols like this online. (I couldn't find it.)

  • Streaming content to JSF UI

    - by Mark Lewis
    Hello, I was quite happy with my JSF app which read the contents of MQ messages received and supplied them to the UI like this: <rich:panel> <snip> <rich:panelMenuItem label="mylabel" action="#{MyBacking.updateCurrent}"> <f:param name="current" value="mylog.log" /> </rich:panelMenuItem> </snip> </rich:panel> <rich:panel> <a4j:outputPanel ajaxRendered="true"> <rich:insert content="#{MyBacking.log}" highlight="groovy" /> </a4j:outputPanel> </rich:panel> and in MyBacking.java private String logFile = null; ... public String updateCurrent() { FacesContext context=FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(); setCurrent((String)context.getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap().get("current")); setLog(getCurrent()); return null; } public void setLog(String log) { sendMsg(log); msgBody = receiveMsg(moreargs); logFile = msgBody; } public String getLog() { return logFile; } until the contents of one of the messages was too big and tomcat fell over. Obviously, I thought, I need to change the way it works so that I return some form of stream so that no one object grows so big that the container dies and the content returned by successive messages is streamed to the UI as it comes in. Am I right in thinking that I can replace the work I'm doing now on a String object with a BufferedOutputStream object ie no change to the JSF code and something like this changing at the back end: private BufferedOutputStream logFile = null; public void setLog(String log) { sendMsg(args); logFile = (BufferedOutputStream) receiveMsg(moreargs); } public String getLog() { return logFile; }

  • Implementing a multi-state planner

    - by MoominTroll
I've been asked to develop a system wherein employees can mark on a form their availability on a given day of the week - for instance an employee could mark themselves as available on a given time on a given week, and unavailable on some other time. It looks a little like this: Currently this works by rendering checkboxes within the table, picking up click events in each cell and marking the checkbox and hence the cell appropriately. I'm using the JQuery "click n drag checkbox" plugin from here. However, I've been informed that there could well be more than two states for a given cell (for instance available, unavailable, available in a given circumstance), in which case binding to a checkboxes checked value isnt going to be a lot of help. I've never used javascript or asp.net before and am unsure as to the best way to approach this problem. Ideally I could stick a data structure behind each cell which I could update to a certain state and then get my cell colour by binding to this - however I'm at something as a loss as how to best achieve this.

  • What garbage collection algorithms do all 5 major browsers use?

    - by Martin Wittemann
I am currently rethinking the object dispose handling of the qooxdoo JavaScript framework. Have a look at the following diagram (A is currently in scope): Let's say we want to delete B. Generally, we cut all reference between all objects. This means we cut connection 1 to 5 in the example. Is this really necessary? As far as I have read hear 1, browsers use the mark-and-sweep algorithm. In that case, we just need to cut reference 1 (connection to the scope) and 5 (connection to the DOM) which could be much faster. But can I be sure that all browsers use the mark-and-sweep algorithm or something similar? 1 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/864516/what-is-javascript-garbage-collection

  • Lisp's "some" in Python?

    - by Mark Probst
I have a list of strings and a list of filters (which are also strings, to be interpreted as regular expressions). I want a list of all the elements in my string list that are accepted by at least one of the filters. Ideally, I'd write [s for s in strings if some (lambda f: re.match (f, s), filters)] where some is defined as def some (pred, list): for x in list: res = pred (x) if res: return res return False Is something like that already available in Python, or is there a more idiomatic way to do this?

  • Connecting to an RMI object without registry

    - by Mark Probst
I think I need to connect to a remote RMI object without going through the registry, but I don't know how. My situation is this: I'm implementing a simple job distribution service which consists of one distributor and multiple workers. The distributor has a registered RMI object to which clients connect to send jobs, and workers connect to accept jobs. Unfortunately the distributor and worker hosts are behind a firewall. To get to the distributor host I am tunneling two ports (one for the registry, one for the distributor object) via SSH, so I can get to the registry and the distributor from outside the firewall. To make that work I have to set "-Djava.rmi.server.hostname=localhost" on the distributor JVM so that the clients connect to their local, tunneled port, instead of the port on the actual distributor host, which is blocked. This creates a problem for the workers, though, because they need to connect to the distributor directly, but because of the "localhost" redirection they behave like clients and try to connect to a port on their own host, which is not available, because I'm not tunneling on the workers (it is impractical). Now, if I could connect to a remote object directly by giving the hostname and port, I could do away both with the registry on the distributor and the "localhost" hack, and make the workers connect properly. How do I do that? Or is there a different solution to this problem?

  • release vs setting-to-nil to free memory

    - by Dan Ray
In my root view controller, in my didReceiveMemoryWarning method, I go through a couple data structures (which I keep in a global singleton called DataManager), and ditch the heaviest things I've got--one or maybe two images associated with possibly twenty or thirty or more data records. Right now I'm going through and setting those to nil. I'm also setting myself a boolean flag so that various view controllers that need this data can easily know to reload. Thusly: DataManager *data = [DataManager sharedDataManager]; for (Event *event in data.eventList) { event.image = nil; event.thumbnail = nil; } for (WondrMark *mark in data.wondrMarks) { mark.image = nil; } [DataManager sharedDataManager].cleanedMemory = YES; Today I'm thinking, though... and I'm not actually sure all that allocated memory is really being freed when I do that. Should I instead release those images and maybe hit them with a new alloc and init when I need them again later?

  • ASP.net MVC Routing on Postback

    - by Mark Kadlec
In my ASP.net MVC View I have a dropdown that I want to get details on selection and asynchronously update a div. My aspx is as follows: <% using (Html.BeginForm("Index", "Portal", FormMethod.Post, new { id = "TheForm" })) {%> <h2>Index</h2> <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("Details", new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "mpkResults" })) { %> <%=Html.DropDownList("Docs", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["Docs"], new { onchange = "document.getElementById('TheForm').submit();" })%> <p><input type="submit" value="Details" /></p> <% } %> <div id="mpkResults" style="margin:10px 0px 0px 0px;"></div> ... The onchange event fires correctly on selection of the dropdown, but instead of the Details method in my code behind firing, it hits my Index method. Why is the details method not getting hit on the onchange event? My Details() method in the controller is: public ActionResult Details() { ... < It never gets here, just goes to the index() method } It's a little frustrating right now since I'm sure it is a simple mistake but not sure what it could be. I looked at the Source of my page and sure enough, the form looks like it should be routing to the Details Action: <form action="/Portal/Details" method="post" ... Any help would be appreciated.

  • How can I add a VS 2010 .Net 4.0 build agent to TFS 2008

    - by Mark Arnott
My company has two development teams using TFS 2008. My team would like to migrate our .Net 3.5 app to the .Net 4.0 framework, but the company is not ready to upgrade TFS to TFS 2010. Can we still use TFS 2008's team build system but with a Visual Studio 2010 solution/project structure that targets the .Net 4.0 framework? I am thinking we would need to add a new build agent to TFS 2008 that would have VS 2010 installed. But I am not finding any information on how to do this. Is this possible? Are there any articles explaining how to do this?

  • Getting a ReturnValue from cmd.Parameters in c#?

    - by mark smith
Hi, I have just finished converted a vb.net app to c# and one of the lines is to get @ReturnValue from the parameter. I ended up having to CAST a lot of things.. Is there not a easier way here is what i have int rc = ((System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlInt32)(((System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter)(cmd.Parameters["@ReturnValue"])).SqlValue)).Value; In vb.net it was as simple as doing this Dim rc As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.Parameters("@ReturnValue").Value) Alot easier :-) But the problem with C# is the property Value isn't available unless I Cast to SqlParameter and i also need to cast to Sqltypes.SqlInt32 - i can't just do a standard Convert.ToInt32

  • paintComponent on JPanel, image flashes and then disappears

    - by mark
I have a JApplet (MainClass extends JApplet), a JPanel (ChartWindow extends JPanel) and a Grafico class. The problem is that the Grafico class instance has 2 JPanel that should show 2 images (1 for each panel) but the images are shown and after a little while they disappears: instead of them i get a gray background (like an empty JPanel). This happens for every repaint() call (that are made in the ChartWindow class) the MainClass init() contains chartwindow=new ChartWindow(); add(chartwindow) chartwindow has a Grafico instance. it's the ChartWindow's paintComponent (override) paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); Image immagineGrafico=createImage(grafico.pannelloGrafico.getWidth() ,grafico.pannelloGrafico.getHeight()); Image immagineVolumi=createImage(grafico.pannelloVolumi.getWidth() ,grafico.pannelloVolumi.getHeight()); Graphics2D imgGrafico=(Graphics2D)immagineGrafico.getGraphics(); Graphics2D imgVolumi=(Graphics2D)immagineVolumi.getGraphics(); grafico.draw(imgGrafico, imgVolumi, mouseX,mouseY); ((Graphics2D)grafico.pannelloGrafico.getGraphics()).drawImage(immagineGrafico,0,0,this); ((Graphics2D)grafico.pannelloVolumi.getGraphics()).drawImage(immagineVolumi,0,0,this); } grafico's JPanels are added this way in the ChartWindow's constructor grafico=new Grafico() ................ add(grafico.pannelloGrafico); add(grafico.pannelloVolumi); Tell me if you need more information, thank you very much :-)

  • Using Maven to Deploy to Weblogic Clusters

    - by Mark Sailes
org.codehaus.mojo weblogic-maven-plugin 2.9.1 We're currently using the weblogic maven plugin successfully to deploy to our local WebLogic 9.2 instances. When we try to deploy to a remote environment we have a problem. We use a two machine cluster, with the admin server and managed server on one machine, and another managed server on a seperate machine. When your plugin uploads the application to the admin server, it doesn't copy it to the second managed server on the seperate machine. This then causes the second managed server a problem, as it cannot find the application in the location where the admin server saved it on its own machine. Config below <configuration> <adminServerHostName>${weblogic.adminServerHostName}</adminServerHostName> <adminServerPort>${weblogic.adminServerPort}</adminServerPort> <adminServerProtocol>${weblogic.adminServerProtocol}</adminServerProtocol> <userId>${weblogic.userId}</userId> <password>${weblogic.password}</password> <upload>${weblogic.upload}</upload> <remote>${weblogic.remote}</remote> <verbose>${weblogic.verbose}</verbose> <debug>${weblogic.debug}</debug> <stage>${weblogic.stage}</stage> <targetNames>${weblogic.targetNames}</targetNames> <exploded>${weblogic.exploded}</exploded> </configuration> <profile> <id>localhost</id> <properties> <weblogic.adminServerHostName>localhost</weblogic.adminServerHostName> <weblogic.adminServerPort>7001</weblogic.adminServerPort> <weblogic.adminServerProtocol>t3</weblogic.adminServerProtocol> <weblogic.userId>weblogic</weblogic.userId> <weblogic.password>weblogic</weblogic.password> <weblogic.upload>false</weblogic.upload> <weblogic.remote>false</weblogic.remote> <weblogic.verbose>true</weblogic.verbose> <weblogic.debug>true</weblogic.debug> <weblogic.stage>false</weblogic.stage> <weblogic.targetNames>AdminServer</weblogic.targetNames> <weblogic.exploded>false</weblogic.exploded> </properties> </profile> <profile> <id>dev</id> <properties> <weblogic.adminServerHostName>******</weblogic.adminServerHostName> <weblogic.adminServerPort>9141</weblogic.adminServerPort> <weblogic.adminServerProtocol>t3</weblogic.adminServerProtocol> <weblogic.userId>******</weblogic.userId> <weblogic.password>******</weblogic.password> <weblogic.upload>true</weblogic.upload> <weblogic.remote>true</weblogic.remote> <weblogic.verbose>true</weblogic.verbose> <weblogic.debug>true</weblogic.debug> <weblogic.stage>true</weblogic.stage> <weblogic.targetNames>dev_cluster01</weblogic.targetNames> <weblogic.exploded>false</weblogic.exploded> </properties> </profile>

  • Why is Grails Searchable Plugin causing errors on Hibernate AutoFlush?

    - by Mark Rogers
In the Grails 1.2.5 project that I am trying to troubleshoot, we use the Grails Searchable plugin .5.5.1. The problem is that whenever we attempt to index large sets domain classes, Grails keeps throwing: ERROR hibernate.AssertionFailure - an assertion failure occured (this may indicate a bug in Hibernate, but is more likely due to unsafe use of the session) org.hibernate.AssertionFailure: collection [domain-class] was not processed by flush() But the domain classes involved have been mapped and used by hibernate without issues outside of the calls to searchable plugin. The use of the searchable plugin goes as follows: Create a compass session with compass.openSession() Begin compass transaction: compassSession.beginTransaction() Then compassSession.create(result.get(0)) is called on an important unindexed domain class Finally compassTransaction.commit() is called to commit the transaction. Goto 2 and process next domain class Between the 3 and 4th Domain class, an autoflush is triggered that throws the error. Can anyone give me any hints about how to solve this problem? Has anyone encountered this problem before? I know that they had a systemic issue with this back in pre .5 versions of the searchable-plugin. Is it possible those issues weren't totally fixed?

  • Using XmlDiffPatch when writing to stream

    - by Mark Smith
    I am trying to use xmldiffpatch when comparing two Xmls(one from a stream, the other from a file) and writing the diff patch to a stream. The first method is to write my xml to a memory stream. The second method loads an xml from a file and creates a stream for the patched file to be written into. The third method actually compares the two files and writes the third. The xmldiff.Compare(originalFile, finalFile, dgw); method takes (XmlReader, XmlReader, XmlWriter). I'm always getting that both files are identical, even though they are not, so I know that I am missing something. Any help is appreciated! public MemoryStream FirstXml() { string[] names = { "John", "Mohammed", "Marc", "Tamara", "joy" }; MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); XmlTextWriter xtw= new XmlTextWriter(ms, Encoding.UTF8); xtw.WriteStartDocument(); xtw.WriteStartElement("root"); foreach (string s in names) { xtw.WriteStartElement(s); xtw.WriteEndElement(); } xtw.WriteEndElement(); xtw.WriteEndDocument(); return ms; } public Stream SecondXml() { XmlReader finalFile =XmlReader.Create(@"c:\......\something.xml"); MemoryStream ms = FirstXml(); XmlReader originalFile = XmlReader.Create(ms); MemoryStream ms2 = new MemoryStream(); XmlTextWriter dgw = new XmlTextWriter(ms2, Encoding.UTF8); GenerateDiffGram(originalFile, finalFile, dgw); return ms2; } public void GenerateDiffGram(XmlReader originalFile, XmlReader finalFile, XmlWriter dgw) { XmlDiff xmldiff = new XmlDiff(); bool bIdentical = xmldiff.Compare(originalFile, finalFile, dgw); dgw.Close(); StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(SecondXml()); string xmlOutput = sr.ReadToEnd(); if(xmlOutput.Contains("</xd:xmldiff>")) {Console.WriteLine("Xml files are not identical"); Console.Read();} else {Console.WriteLine("Xml files are identical");Console.Read();} }
