    Hello to everyone. I came across with an error on my Scala code that I cannot solve by myself (I am new at Scala). I have the following code: def myFunction(list: List[Any]): String = { var strItems : String = ""; list.foreach(item => { strItems += item match { case x:JsonSerializable => x.toJson() case y:String => ("\"" + y + "\"") case _ => item.toString } if(item != list.last) strItems += ","; }) strItems; } The error I am getting is: error: pattern type is incompatible with expected type; found : String required: Unit case y:String = ("\"" + y + "\"") Any idea why? But it doesn't appear in SLOT parenthesis to write app method ? is it related with & character in front of app ?

  • If-elseif-else Logic Question

    I have a set of three values, call them x, y, and z. If value A happens to match only one in the set x, y, and z, then that means we have a proper match and we stop searching for a match, even if it is at y. It can match any one in that set. These values x, y, and z are non-constant so I cannot use a switch-case statement. How do I do this with an if-elseif-else statements without having to use GOTO. I am using C++ (no boost or any of that other fancy stuff). Now, I am trying to do this in code and it is racking my brain this morning (not enough coffee?)

  • vestal_versions and htmldiff question of reversion...

    I'm guessing there's probably an easier way to do what I'm doing so that the code is less unwieldy. I had trouble understanding how to use the revert_to method... i wanted something where i could call up two different versions at the same time, but this doesn't seem to be the way that vestal_versions works.     In the W3C working draft for HTML5 here's a line I find confusing: http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/introduction.html#html-vs-xhtml Comments that contain the string "--" can be represented in the DOM but not in the HTML syntax or in XML. I can interpret this in two different ways: Comments that contain the string "--" can be represented in XML and in the DOM but not in the HTML syntax Comments that contain the string"--" can be represented in the DOM but neither in the HTML syntax nor in XML. I really find the original formulation highly confusing. Which one does it mean and is it even correct english? Who should I contact if I want to point out that I find such a wording highly confusing and that hence there's a high probability that other non-native english speaker would find this kind of formulation highly confusing too?

    Hello, I have some Regex, it looks like this: string regexForDrop = @"^((%27)|'|(\-\-))\s*(d|%64|%44)(r|%72|%52)(o|%6F|%4F)(p|%70|%50)$"; It works fine, when i write to the input "--drop", but it does not works, when i write "drop table users" or something like that. I need that it would be working, no matter what comes after "--drop". How i can implement that? Thanks

  • Commercial Website architecture question

    Hello everyone, I have to write an architecture case study but there are some things that i don't know, so i'd like some pointers on the following : The website must handle 5k simultaneous users. The backend is composed by a commercial software, some webservices, some message queues, and a database. I want to recommend to use Spring for the backend, to deal with the different elements, and to expose some Rest services. I also want to recommend wicket for the front (not the point here). What i don't know is : must i install the front and the back on the same tomcat server or two different ? and i am tempted to put two servers for the front, with a load balancer (no need for session replication in this case). But if i have two front servers, must i have two back servers ? i don't want to create some kind of bottleneck. Based on what i read on this blog a really huge charge is handle by one tomcat only for the first website mentionned. But i cannot find any info on this, so i can't tell if it seems plausible. If you can enlight me, so i can go on in my case study, that would be really helpful. Thanks :)

    I have a hobby project, which is basically to maintain 'todo' tasks in the way I like. One task can be described as: public class TodoItem { private String subject; private Date dueBy; private Date startBy; private Priority priority; private String category; private Status status; private String notes; } As you can imagine I would have 1000s of todo items at a given time. What is the best strategy to store a todo item? (currently on an XML file) such that all the items are loaded quickly up on app start up(the application shows kind of a dashboard of all the items at start up)? What is the best way to design its back-end so that it can be ported to Android/or a J2ME based phone? Currently this is done using Java Swing. What should I concentrate on so that it works efficiently on a device where memory is limited? The application throws open a form to enter new todo task. For now, I would like to save the newly added task to my-todos.xml once the user presses "save" button. What are the common ways to append such a change to an existing XML file?(note that I don't want to read the whole file again and then persist)

    I am trying to understand the concept of cellid (http://www.opencellid.org/api) As per that, if we send a request http://www.opencellid.org/cell/get?key=myapikey&mnc=1&mcc=2&lac=200&cellid=234 it will respond with the latitude and longitude. I was wondering if this can be used from within a google map application for tracking a user or it needs to be used from within a mobile device? If it can be used from within a web app, what parameters should it use for mcc: mobile country code (decimal) mnc: mobile network code (decimal) lac: locale area code (decimal) cellid: value of the cell id E.g., will it work if we know the cell number of the person(e.g., 281 222 6700)
