• Internet Explorer 9 takes a long time to load websites

  IE9 on Windows 7 would load Google okay, and we could search on Google okay, but almost any other website would take an inordinate amount of time to load. The loading sprite would sit there indefinitely. I uninstalled IE9 to roll back to IE8, and the same issue occurs. We've reset IE settings back to defaults, and there are no add-ons causing this. Firefox loads websites fine on this computer. Could it be an IE-specific virus/trojan? IE was displaying an incorrect/hijacked home page.

  Extract data from specific range of cells(always the same cells) in multiple worksheet in multiple files. 1 file=1 day. I have 6 technicians each day of the week, Monday thru Friday. So, 5 files with 6 worksheets. I have entered specific info in specific cells of every work sheet. The range is constant(the same address in EVERY worksheet in every file.) So, I need a formula to extract and calculate the data in the given range and dump it into another spreadsheet. I can forward an example a file if it will help anyone to answer my question. • Excel: Is it possible to have rows with sub-totals that doesn't ruin the total-total?

  I have an excel sheet which looks something like this: date text value other-value date text value other-value date text value other-value date text value other-value totals sum other-sum The sum is of course a sum of all the values above it. What I am wondering is if there is a way I can add rows with a sub-total at random places through out that list. For example if I would like to have a sub-total for each new month. My problem is of course that the total sum will become way to large because it will also sum the rows with the sub-totals. Does Excel have a feature that can help me so I can have the sub-totals and a correct total-total? I'm using Excel 2010.

• excel is there a way to delete everything EXCEPT what is selected?

  I have an excel template with 20 tabs (worksheets) and plenty of data in each sheet. When a user opens a copy of the template, he will only need to use one tab. Is there a sneaky way to select that tab, or part of the contents of that tab and then 'delete all except selected'. That way the used file size will be much reduced of the excess clutter. There will be basic excel users adjusting this file so the smaller and easier to manage the better. Thanks, Andy

• Double Filter in Excel

  I'm trying to "stack" filters in excel, so to speak. I want to filter column A to show anything greater than 30 and then I want to filter column B to show the top ten items. When I do this, however, it shows me all rows that fit both criteria (only five records). I want to first fit the criteria for column A and then filter these results to show the top ten items in column B (10 records total). I know that I could just copy the rows from my first filter to a new sheet and then filter the new worksheet, but is there any way to apply both filters so that I don't physically have to delete records this way? Thanks for your help!

• Conditionally format row based on cell value in Excel 2011 Mac

  I'm using Excel Mac 2011. I have read some of the other answers, but this question is different because I want to apply conditional formatting to an entire row when its cell in column B contains the value 'Y'. Simple conditional formatting just formats that one cell. Whenever the field at column B for any given row contains the value 'Y', I'd like to format that row. Using Mac Excel's so-called "classic" conditional formatting, I have this: I would really like to apply that to every row, but it just paints the entire sheet red (because $B$3 contains "Y"). I can't seem to figure out how to get the reference to whatever is in field B for this row in the rule.

  this really is a Dell question but tempted to ask the experts @ serverfault. choosen a Dell powerconnect 8024 10GbE switch. per the spec sheet this has 10GbaseT ports. "24x 10GBASE-T (10Gb/1Gb/100Mb) with 4x Combo Ports of SFP+ (10Gb/1Gb) or 10GBASE-T" the HBA on my storage server has 10G CX4 copper ports Dell does not sell any cables and this adds to my confusion. from the picture Dell 8024 seems to have RJ-45 type ports on the front panel? my question: is it a RJ-45 + CX4 cable or CX4 + CX4 cable?

• Best CMS to handle short snippets of text?

  I have to install a CMS to manage a set of mathematical problems, i.e., our main content will be short (~3 lines) snippets of text. We need the ability to add comments and categories/tags, possibly with a powerful search function combining different constraints on the categories. A crucial ability is the possibility to combine the results of a search in the same page to produce a (printable) problem sheet: not many CMS's seem to be able to do so, and it is difficult for me to test every one for this specific function. Do you guys know of a CMS that is capable to return formatted search result in this fashion? Thanks in advance!

• Certain web pages are suddenly not rendering properly in FireFox

  I am using FireFox 3.6.3. I noticed in the last couple of days that several webpages which I visit regularly are not rendering properly. A lot of the text is overlapping with other text and it basically looks like the style sheet is completely screwed up. I have tried disabling all of my Add-Ons and it doesn't make a difference. When I use Coral IE Tab to render the pages using IE they display without any problems. The websites which are not rending properly for me are: The Age Google Reader One interesting thing I noticed is that if I modify the Google Reader URL to not use SSL (i.e. change https to http) it renders without any issues. However, The Age website is not using SSL, and that still doesn't render properly. I have also disabled my Proxy Server (I normally use one at work) but this doesn't make a difference either.

• Converting date format in formulas in Excel

  I have a column of dates in the following format ddd mmm dd hh m:s "EST" yyyy. In another cell in another sheet, I wish to have the dates in the format dd/m/y. How can I do this? I already tried the DATEVALUE function. Seeing as the positions are fixed, I started using the RIGHT and MID functions to extract components to put into the DATE function. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way of converting the three letter string to a month without writing a huge if block. UPDATE: I managed to convert the string using MONTH(1&THREE_LETTER_DATE). I am still curious if there is a better solution though

• Barcode scanner timing to excel

  I have a barcode reader that will load the barcode to a excel spreadsheet - great - but now i need it to do 2 things: 1 - add a time stamp to next to the barcode that has been scanned. So Barcode goes to A1, need B2 to show time. 2- find the name (that is in a seperate excel sheet) that is linked to that barcode and add it to C1, next to the time and barcode. I use this method to time trail running - each person is issued a barcode and as they go through various points their barcode is scanned and a time is allocated to their name.

• Can't import contacts into Outlook from Excel

  I run MS Office 2010. I have all contacts from a previous Outlook 2010 saved in an Excel sheet. I have tried dozens of time to import, but when Outlooks is supposed to do the mapping of the columns I only have one column in my CSV-file: firstname;middlename;surname, etc. It means I cannot map the data correctly. I have tried saving in MS-DOS and Tab and it does not get better. I have tried saving on another computer and it does help either. ALso tried importing to Gmail with same result. Can anyone help?

• Excel 2007 Constantly Creating Custom Cell Styles

  Hello, I've been using Office 2007 for a few months now and have noticed that it was creating duplicate custom cell styles on its own, like Normal 2, Normal 3, etc. It didn't really bother me at first, but now Excel will lag when I open the cell styles menu as it gathers well over a hundred of these duplicates (I have seen Normal 54 and Normal 5 2 2 so I'm unsure as to how many there actually are). I have also just checked a fresh Excel sheet, and it only has the defaults, but one I created earlier today from scratch has the Normal 54 listed. My questions are: Why is this happening? Can I delete a temp or custom settings file somewhere to clear this? Any help on this is appreciated.

  Is there a way to batch export different columns to different csv files in excel on an OSX, I'm thinking something along the lines of possibly automator, applescript or bash. I've had a look play around with automator and so far no look. The best I have accomplished export the whole sheet, then use sed to strip out what I don't need, however this is terribly inefficient. Also, is there a method, to batch import multiple csv files into columns. Thanks in advance && sorry I didn't tag excel correctly it wouldn't allow me to create the excel:mac tag

  hi, im trying to replace our current journal (excel sheet) with a web portal based journal. something kind of like twitter, but with more options. also needs to have a login so we can track the people entering. it can also be some sort of tool but i cant find anything that meets our demands... i could use a ITIL ticket service but that has way to much functionalities for our use. im basicly looking for a webportal with a shared blog, where users can login and creat new entries with: a topic name a automated follow-up ID number a field where they can enter specific info a reply field and a status field with pre defined statuses can anyone help me with this? thanks in advance.   I have a sheet containing thousands of cells in a column. These cell contains names of different securities. Some names of these securities contains a particular string such as "C/O". How can I use a formula that will return the rows that have these characters? EG. S&P 500 C/O 30/03/12 1380 MICROSOFT C/O 19/05/12 32 QUICKSILVER C/O 17/03/12 9 There is no consistency (can't use left/right/mid formula). Requirement : I want the formula which will return "C/O" in the other cell if this particular cell contains it.

• Canon LiDE 600F FAU on Snow Leopard?

  I have been able to use my Canon LiDE 600F scanner under Snow Leopard to scan paper sheet, after installing Canon's latest driver software. However, I cannot find a way to make the FAU (Film Adaptor Unit) to work: Canon's software want to calibrate it first and gives an error message "Calibration cannot be performed. Pull out the film. 182.0.0". (of course there is no film). Hamrick's VueScan doesn't seem to support the FAU Apple's Image Capture doesn't propose a film option either Did I miss something? Did somebody manage to scan film (positive or negative) using the LiDE 600F under Snow Leopard? Many thanks

So my specific needs are: If it is possible in some way, to start a macro/script by clicking on a cell. About the script/macro: What would be the preferable, by your opinion, way of implementation. And more specifically, how to automatically import the data needed, only by clicking, without having to continually specify the desirable .txt file each time, only 1 time at max, at start or by using a custom "initalization/configuration" file.

  I have the following code that returns the needed data into excel and manually changing the date will change the returned data; however, I'd like to reference a cell with a formula that will make the query a bit more user friendly. I've tried using my limited knowledge of referencing a cell but none have worked.   What is a good tool to keep track of IT inventory? Systems that are installed and running, parts being ordered, that sort of thing. I'd love a central, web based system (preferably something we can customize) but my searching so far has resulted in a lot of dead open source projects that havn't been updated in a few years and poorly created commercial websites that don't do a very good job describing their product. The software doesn't have to be free or open source - a good commercial alternative is fine. It doesn't even need to be a web-based tool, that's just what I thought would be simplist to find and easiest to deploy. The number of assets that it will be tracking will be in the dozens, so it doesn't have to be a super high-end enterprise solution but it does need to do a better job than an excel sheet in a shared folder (which is our current "solution")

• Mail Merge in Microsoft Word with images from Sharepoint

  Is there any way of doing a Mail Merge in Microsoft Word 2007 taking data, including images from a Sharepoint site? It's a bit crude, but I've managed to merge text by taking the data off the sharepoint site as an Excel sheet and then merging that. My problem is what to do with the images. I can set references to the images up in the Sharepoint site, however all I can find is a way of Mail Merging when images are in the same folder as the document you are trying to Merge and I can't find a sensible automated way to pulls these images together into one single folder.

• How to create reusable fields in Word

  I would like to create reusable fields that I can type in, then reuse those fields throughout the document without having to retype them. As an example, I have a cover sheet that contains "Title", "Document ID", "Version Number", and "Published Date". I used the MACROBUTTON trick to create a field that someone can just click on and type, but I don't see how I can re-use what is typed in other parts of the document (such as putting the Document title in the header). I've found something called "fill-in" fields, which don't seem to be what i'm looking for, and "ASK" fields, but that creates a dialog that you have to enter the information into. I'm trying to create a generic template for my documentation needs. Can anyone suggest a method to do what I am looking for?

• Calculating IOPS for a single HDD - what am I doing wrong?

  So I know there is no standardized way of calculating IOPS for a HDD, but from everything I have read it appears one of the most accurate formulas is the following: IOP/ms = + {rotational latency} + ({block size} / {data transfer rate}) Which is IOs per millisecond or what the book I've been reading calls "Disk Service Time". Also rotational latency is calculated as half of one rotation in milliseconds. This was taken from the EMC book "Information Storage and Management" -arguably a pretty reliable source right\wrong? Putting this formula into practice consider this Seagate data sheet. I am going to calculate IOPS for the ST3000DM001 model for a block size of 4kb: Seek Average (Write) = 9.5 -I'll measuring IOPS for writes Spindle speed = 7200rpm Average Data Rate = 156MB/s So my variables are: Seek Time = 9.5ms Rotational latency = (.5 / (7200rpm / 60)) = 0.004s = 4ms Data Rate = 156MB/s = (0.156MB/ms / 0.004MB) = 39 9.5ms + 4ms + 39 = IO/ms 52.5 1 / (52.5 * 0.001) = 19 IOPS 19 IOPS for this drive clearly is not right so what am I doing wrong?

  Hey there! I want to assemble a cheap storage sytem based on the Norco RPC-4020 Case. When searching for controllers I found this one: Intel® RAID Controller SASWT4I This is a quote form the Spec Sheet: Scalability. Supports up to 122 physical devices in SAS mode which is ideal for employing JBODs (Just a Bunch Of Disks) or up to 14 devices in RAID 0, 1, 1E/10E mode through direct connect device attachment or through expander backplane support. Does that mean I can attatch 14 SATA drives directly to the controller using SFF-8087 - 4x SATA breakout cables? That would be nice because then I can choose a mainboard that has 6 Onboard SATA and i can connect all 20 bays while only spending 155$ on the controller and like another 100$ on cables. Would that work? And why is it 14 and not 16 when there are 4 Ports? I am really confused about all the breakout/fanout/(edge-)expanding/multiplying/channel stuff...

Beans 1.48oz/12 ? Chips 6.5oz/20 ? I am trying to match the type of product with the correct weight. So I need a formula that will choose the correct column based on the Category and then choose the correct row based on the name and output the result next to it.
