  • C# Confusing Results from Performance Test

    I am currently working on an image processing application. The application captures images from a webcam and then does some processing on it. The app needs to be real time responsive (ideally < 50ms to process each request). I have been doing some timing tests on the code I have and I found something very interesting (see below). clearLog(); log("Log cleared"); camera.QueryFrame(); camera.QueryFrame(); log("Camera buffer cleared"); Sensor s = t.val; log("Sx: " + S.X + " Sy: " + S.Y); Image<Bgr, Byte> cameraImage = camera.QueryFrame(); log("Camera output acuired for processing"); Each time the log is called the time since the beginning of the processing is displayed. Here is my log output: [3 ms]Log cleared [41 ms]Camera buffer cleared [41 ms]Sx: 589 Sy: 414 [112 ms]Camera output acuired for processing The timings are computed using a StopWatch from System.Diagonostics. QUESTION 1 I find this slightly interesting, since when the same method is called twice it executes in ~40ms and when it is called once the next time it took longer (~70ms). Assigning the value can't really be taking that long right? QUESTION 2 Also the timing for each step recorded above varies from time to time. The values for some steps are sometimes as low as 0ms and sometimes as high as 100ms. Though most of the numbers seem to be relatively consistent. I guess this may be because the CPU was used by some other process in the mean time? (If this is for some other reason, please let me know) Is there some way to ensure that when this function runs, it gets the highest priority? So that the speed test results will be consistently low (in terms of time). EDIT I change the code to remove the two blank query frames from above, so the code is now: clearLog(); log("Log cleared"); Sensor s = t.val; log("Sx: " + S.X + " Sy: " + S.Y); Image<Bgr, Byte> cameraImage = camera.QueryFrame(); log("Camera output acuired for processing"); The timing results are now: [2 ms]Log cleared [3 ms]Sx: 589 Sy: 414 [5 ms]Camera output acuired for processing The next steps now take longer (sometimes, the next step jumps to after 20-30ms, while the next step was previously almost instantaneous). I am guessing this is due to the CPU scheduling. Is there someway I can ensure the CPU does not get scheduled to do something else while it is running through this code?

    I was using sandcastle to generate help for my project in visual studio 2008. When i change my project to visual studio 2010 and change the project .NET version to .NET 4.0 i got this problem with Sandcastel. I can't understand why sandcastel is using C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.5\MSBuild.exe and not C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0\MSBuild.exe thinking that i specified as framework version the v4.0.30319 Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue??   • getting a blank data report vb6

    Hi, I am new to vb6. I am working to create the invoice generation application. I am using data report to show the generated invoice. The step by step working of process is Entering the data in to Invoice and ItemsInvoice tables. Then getting the maxId using (Adodc) from the data base to show the last generated Invoice. Then passing the max Id as parameter to the data report which is showing the invoice according to the invoice id. It is working fine when I first time generate invoice. Now for 2nd invoice withou closing application I am getting a blank data report. For data report I am using dataenvironment. I am guessing the reason of blank data report is blank because there was no record for that Id. But actually the record is inserting in the database. Please help me.

    Now there's all the hype lately about Node.JS, an event driven framework using Javascript callbacks. To my limited understanding, its primary advantage seems to be that you don't have to wait step by step sequentially (for example, you can fetch the SQL results, while calling other functions too). So my question is: how is this different, or better than just functional languages, like CL, Haskell, Clojure etc? If not better, then why don't people just do functional languages then (instead of reinventing the wheel with Javascript)? Please note that I have none experience in either Node.JS nor functional programming. So some basic explanation can be helpful.

  • How do you deal with UAC when creating a process as a different user?

    I am having an issue with UAC and executing a non interactive process as a different user (APIs such as CreateProcessAsUser or CreateProcessWithLogonW). My program is intended to do the following: 1) Create a new windows user account (check, works correctly) 2) Create a non interactive child process as new user account (fails when UAC is enabled) My application includes a administrator manifest, and elevates correct when UAC is enabled in order to complete step 1. But step 2 is failing to execute correctly. I suspect this is because the child process which executes as another user is not inheriting the elevated rights of my main process (which executes as the interactive user). I would like to know how to resolve this issue. When UAC is off my program works correctly. How can I deal with UAC or required elevated rights in this situation? If it helps any, the child process needs to run as another user in order to setup file encryption for the new user account.

  • Does RVM "failover" to another ruby instance on error?

    Have a strange problem in that I have a Rake task that seems to be using multiple versions of Ruby. When one fails, it seems to try another one. Details MacBook running 10.6.5 rvm 1.1.0 Rubies: 1.8.7-p302, ree-1.8.7-2010.02, ruby-1.9.2-p0 Rake 0.8.7 Gem 1.3.7 Veewee (provisioning Virtual Machines using Opcode.com, Vagrant and Chef) I'm not entirely sure the specific details of the error matter, but since it might be an issue with Veewee itself. So, what I'm trying to do is build a new box base on a veewee definition. The command fails with an error about a missing method- but what's interesting is how it fails. Errors I managed to figure out that if I only have one Ruby installed with RVM, it just fails. If I have more than one Ruby install, it fails at the same place, but execution seems to continue in another interpreter. Here are two different clipped console outputs. I've clipped them for size.   • jQuery animate() - multiple selectors and variables, a unique animate() call

    Hi guys, I am resizing several divs in a loop with animate() in jQuery. At the same time I am moving (left property, no resizing at all) the div where they are contained. Problem is, despite they have same duration the resize animate calls finish before the move call. They are out of sync. Is there any way of creating a list of selectors and its properties and then run a unique animate() call? Or, is there any alternative to make multiple animations happen at the same time? I've seen there's a property called step that happens every time animate loop happens but, again, each animate() call has it's own step call. Thanks in advance :)

I installed acts-as-commentable-with-threading ( GitHub ), i made and ran the migration like the install instructions said. I have added acts_as_commentable to my Posts model and i have a Comments controller When i add @comment = Comment.build_from(params[:id],1, params[:body] ) I get the error. undefined method `build_from' for # Clearly i am doing something terribly wrong, and i don't really get the example. What should i be feeding to build_from? Can somebody explain this plugin step by step? :) Or is there an easier way to get simple threaded comments?

    I am trying to accomplish the following: 1. On click, have a div with id="fader" fadeout 2. replaceHtml of fader with new html (this new HTML will appear below the fold of the browser) 3. Animate new HTML to slide up to the specified location Step 1 and 2 are working, step 3 is not and I'm stumped as to why.     Hi, I have an Internet app running on Grails 1.1.2 and it integrates Spring WebFlow mechanism. The problem is that there are some bots ignoring robots.txt and are entering the flow quite often. Because second step of the flow needs some human intelligence, the bot leaves open flow after the first step. This causes a lot of open flows which leades to a lot of abandoned open hibernate sessions. Do you know some common clean-up mechanism for this kind of unattended flows (plus hibernate sessions) in Grails+Spring WebFlow? Thanks, Pavel

How can I take advantage of OpenSessionInViewInterceptor found in Spring to catch any hibernate session that might open within a bean?     This is just a simple question. I'm currently using Mozilla's Rhino to develop a little webapp. As one step, I need to get a webpage and filter all of it's nodes. For doing that, I use E4X. I thought I could do this like that: var pnodes = doc..*(p); But that produces an error. How is it done right? (BTW: this is just a step for increasing performance. The code already does well, it's just a bit slow.)

    I'm trying to invoke a method f() every t time, but if the previous invocation of f() has not finished yet, wait until it's finished. I've read a bit about the available timers (this is a useful link) but couldn't find any good way of doing what I want, save for manually writing it all. Any help about how to achieve this will be appreciated, though I fear I might not be able to find a simple solution using timers. To clarify, if x is one second, and f() runs the arbitrary durations I've written below, then: Step Operation Time taken 1 wait 1s 2 f() 0.6s 3 wait 0.4s (because f already took 0.6 seconds) 4 f() 10s 5 wait 0s (we're late) 6 f() 0.3s 7 wait 0.7s (we can disregard the debt from step 4) Notice that the nature of this timer is that f() will not need to be safe regarding re-entrance, and a thread pool of size 1 is enough here.

    Hello, I have a stored proc in SQL Server 2005, which looks like the following (simplified) CREATE PROCEDURE FOO @PARAMS AS BEGIN -- STEP 1: POPULATE tmp_table DECLARE @tmp_table TABLE (...) INSERT INTO @tmp_table SELECT * FROM BAR -- STEP 2: USE @tmp_table FOR FINAL SELECT SELECT abc, pqr FROM BAZ JOIN @tmp_table ON some_criteria END When I run this proc from SQL Server Management Studio, things work fine. However, when I call the same proc from a Java program, using something like: cs = connection.prepareCall("exec proc ?,"); cs.setParam(...); rs = cs.getResultSet(); // BOOM - Null! while(rs.next()) {...} // NPE! I fail to understand why the first result set returned is NULL. Can someone explain this to me? As a workaround, if I check cs.getMoreResults() and if true, try another getResultSet() - THIS time it returns the proper result set. Any pointers please? How do I use the same syntax "export.exe exampledoc.doc exampledoc.gif" when an item is added to sharepoint doc library. and Do I need to put the folder (where the exe and dlls are for this) in the sharepoint frontend server so it's accessible? If yes, where should this folder reside? Does the folder and files need sharepoint service account access? I am totally new and I would really like if someone can shed some light on this (step by step if possible)? Thanks Justin...

    Hello everyone, im new with wpf and want to make a small Application with the embedded (local) database in WPF. Im using VS08, -add new file - local Database, so far so good. I also can add a table (test table called Person with Name and Age), this works good. And now comes my problem, could anyone tell me how to make (select... insert) statements in codebehind, so that i could display them in a datagrid (from wpftoolkit). Need some code or step by step tut. :D

  • Small web-framework like Sinatra, Ramaze etc in .NET

    Are there any similar frameworks like Sinatra, Ramaze etc in .NET? I'm in theory after a framework that let's me create an entire webapp with just one classfile (conceptually) like Sinatra. I'm going to use it for something work-internal, where ASP.NET MVC is too "big" (and I get confused by it's usage) and I have WebForms up to my ears right now (doing a big webforms based project, currently hating it ;) ) Any suggestions? Oh, and I need to be able to host it in IIS. I would go for IronRuby with Sinatra, but I can't find a step-by-step tut for setting it up in IIS ;)
