  • Why doesn't this UIButton show its text label?

    - by Dan Ray
    Everything about this UIButton renders great except the text that's supposed to be on it. NSLog demonstrates that the text is in the right place. What gives? UIButton *newTagButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [newTagButton addTarget:self action:@selector(showNewTagField) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; newTagButton.titleLabel.text = @"+ New Tag"; NSLog(@"Just set button label to %@", newTagButton.titleLabel.text); newTagButton.titleLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:17]; newTagButton.titleLabel.textColor = [UIColor redColor]; CGSize addtextsize = [newTagButton.titleLabel.text sizeWithFont:[UIFont systemFontOfSize:17]]; CGSize buttonsize = { (addtextsize.width + 20), (addtextsize.height * 1.2) }; newTagButton.frame = CGRectMake(x, y, buttonsize.width, buttonsize.height); [self.mainView addSubview:newTagButton];

  • How to resize a UIPresentationFormSheet?

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I am trying to display a modal view controller as a UIPresentationFormSheet. The view appears, but I can't seem to resize it. My XIB has the proper height & width, but it seems to get overridden when I call it like this: composeTweetController = [[ComposeTweet alloc] initWithNibName:@"ComposeTweet" bundle:nil]; composeTweetController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; [self presentModalViewController:composeTweetController animated:TRUE]; Any thoughts? I am using the iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 4

  • Detecting network adapter changes on the iPhone

    - by theactiveactor
    Say that there are no WIFI networks currently available and my network-enabled app is connected over 3G. How can I detect if a user has roamed into a WIFI network? I would also like to detect the case when the user is connected over WIFI and suddenly received 3G signal. In other words, I would like to be asynchronously notified of network adapter changes. I tried using the SCNetworkReachability framework asynchronously but found that for some reason, I am not receiving Wifi-related events (i.e. adapter on/off) when connected over 3G.

  • iPhone: Can't animate contentInset while animating Nav Bar show/hide

    - by Cuzog
    In my app, I have a table view. When the user clicks a button, a UIView overlays part of that table view. It's essentially a partial modal. That table view is intentionally still scrollable while that modal is active. To allow the user to scroll to the bottom of the table view, I change the contentInset and scrollIndicatorInsets values to adjust for the smaller area above the modal. When the modal is taken away, I reset those inset values. The problem is that when the user has scrolled to the bottom of the newly adjusted inset and then dismisses the modal, the table view jumps abruptly to a new scroll position because the inset is changed instantly. I would like to animate it so there is a transition, but the beginAnimation/commitAnimations methods aren't affecting it for some reason. Edit: More info. I found the conflict. When presenting the modal, I also hide the navigation bar. The navigation bar natively animates the table view up and down as it shows and hides. When I stop animating the navigation bar, the inset animation works fine. Does anyone know what I can do to work around this conflict? Do I have to wait for the navigation bar animation to finish before adjusting the inset? If so, how to I hook onto that? Any help is greatly appreciated! The relevant code from the table view controller is here: - (void)viewDidLoad { [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(modalOpened) name:@"ModalStartedOpening" object:nil]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(modalDismissed) name:@"ModalStartedClosing" object:nil]; [super viewDidLoad]; } - (void)modalOpened { [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 201, 0); self.tableView.scrollIndicatorInsets = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 201, 0); [UIView commitAnimations]; } - (void)modalDismissed { [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 0, 0); self.tableView.scrollIndicatorInsets = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 0, 0); [UIView commitAnimations]; }

  • imagePickerController didFinishPickingImage not being called.

    - by MegaEduX
    Hello, I am trying to save an image I take from a UIImagePickerController but I am not, well, being able to. This is the code I am trying to use to save the image: - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingImage:(UIImage *)image editingInfo:(NSDictionary *)editingInfo { UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(image, nil, nil, nil); } That function is simply not being called. Any idea?

  • Core Data: fetch an NSManagedObject by its properties

    - by niklassaers
    Hi guys, I have an object NetworkMember that has no attributes but is defined by its relationships Person, Network, Level and Role. In my app, I've found all the four relationships, but I want to make sure not to double-register my NetworkMember, thus I'd like to search for this NSManagedObject before instantiating it. How should I write a query that queries for an NSManagedObject just consisting of relationships? Cheers Nik

  • UITableView : detecting click on '-' button in edit mode

    - by synthez84
    Hi all, On my iphone app, I have a UITableView in edit mode, containing custom UITableViewCell. I would like to detect when user has clicked on the left button of each cell (minus circular red button, the one that is animated with a rotation), just before the "Delete" button appears. I would like to be able to change my cell content in that case... Is that possible ? Thanks !

  • Remove a toolbar when pushing a new view

    - by nevan
    In the iPhone maps app there's a toolbar at the bottom of the map view (it contains the Search/Directions segment control and others). When moving from the map view by clicking on a callout, the toolbar slides out with the map view, leaving the next view (a table controller) with no toolbar. I've tried to do the same thing with [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:YES animated:YES] in the second view controller, but this gives a strange toolbar sliding down animation, while the map view is sliding to the left. Using [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:YES] in viewDidLoad:animated also causes a bad effect (it makes the toolbar disappear the moment the push animation starts, leaving an ugly white space). I'm assuming the answer to this is to use a nib file, but I'd prefer to do it programatically (if possible). How can I get the toolbar to "stick" to the map view and slide out with it when I push a new view controller? Thanks.

    I need to make an NSManagedObject without saving it, how can I do this? I have tried insetting one without a context but the app crashes. I have tried the following: GuestInfo *guest; guest = (GuestInfo *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"GuestInfo" inManagedObjectContext:nil]; This causes the crash with the following error message: 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '+entityForName: could not locate an NSManagedObjectModel for entity name 'GuestInfo'' This causes the Hope you can help, thanks.

  • Enable UIBarButtonItem if multiple UITextFields are all populated

    - by CrystalSkull
    I have 3 UITextFields in a grouped UITableView and am trying to figure out the correct logic to only have my 'Save' UIBarButtonItem enabled when none of the UITextFields are empty. I'm currently using the - (BOOL)textField:(UITextField *)textField shouldChangeCharactersInRange:(NSRange)range replacementString:(NSString *)string UITextField delegate method to detect changes to the field character by character, but it is providing inconsistent results. Any ideas?

  • UIWebView in multithread ViewController

    - by Tao
    I have a UIWebView in a viewcontroller, which has two methods as below. The question is if I pop out(tap back on navigation bar) this controller before the second thread is done, the app will crash after [super dealloc], because "Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread.". Any help would be really appreciated. -(void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; NSInvocationOperation *operation = [[NSInvocationOperation alloc] initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(load) object:nil]; [operationQueue addOperation:operation]; [operation release]; } -(void)load { [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:5]; [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(done) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:NO]; }

  • UTF-8 conversion

    - by leachianus
    Hey guys, I am grabbing a JSON array and storing it in a NSArray, however it includes JSON encoded UTF-8 strings, for example pass\u00e9 represents passé. I need a way of converting all of these different types of strings into the actual character. I have an entire NSArray to convert. Or I can convert it when it is being displayed, which ever is easiest. I found this chart http://tntluoma.com/sidebars/codes/ is there a convenience method for this or a library I can download? thanks, BTW, there is no way I can find to change the server so I can only fix it on my end...

  • Is there a way to stop a UIViewController from being popped from a UINavigationController's stack wh

    - by yabada
    I have a UINavigationController with a root view controller and then I push a UIViewController onto the navigation controller's stack. When the user taps the backBarButtonItem I'd like to be able to have an alert view pop up if there are certain conditions met and cancel the pop of the view controller. For example, the user can make certain selections but some combination of them may be invalid so I want to notify them to make changes. I know that I can prevent the user from making an invalid combination or have an alert view pop up when the invalid combination is selected but I'd rather not do that. The user may be changing selections and may be aware that a certain combination is invalid but I'd rather let them select something that makes the combination invalid then go change something else (and notify them if they haven't made changes before trying to go to the previous screen). For example, if I prevent them from make the invalid combination then they may have to scroll up on a screen, change something, then scroll back down instead of making a selection then scrolling up and changing something. Using viewWillDisappear: doesn't work because, although I can produce an alert view, I cannot figure out a way to prevent the pop from occurring. The alert view pops up but the view controller still pops and they are back to the root view controller (with the alert view displaying). Is there a way to prevent the pop from occurring? If not, is this something worth filing a bug report about or is this unnecessary and/or esoteric?

  • Where should I remove a notification observer?

    - by nevan
    I set up a notification observer in my view controll init method like so: [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(saveState) name:UIApplicationWillResignActiveNotification object:nil]; Where is the best place to call removeObserver:name:object: for this notification. I'm currently calling it in my dealloc method, but wanted to know if that might cause problems.

  • How can I flip a UITableView?

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I am trying to flip a UITableViewController but I don't think I am doing it properly: LeaderBoardTableViewController* leaderBoardView = [[[LeaderBoardTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LeaderBoardTableViewController" bundle:nil]autorelease]; //[self.navigationController pushViewController:leaderBoardView animated:YES]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight forView:[self view] cache:YES]; [self.view addSubview:leaderBoardView]; [UIView commitAnimations]; I believe the culprit is in the line: [self.view addSubview:leaderBoardView]; But am not sure how to resolve.

  • In iPhone OS, what UTI represents a plain ol' text file?

    - by Justin Searls
    I'm attempting to make use of the UIDocumentInteractionController mechanism in iPhone OS 3.2, but I'm struggling to figure out exactly how to construct a UTI that it likes. I've gotten as far as attempting to set "public.plain-text", but it's hard to test whether this is the correct UTI for a plain text document, since I can't tell whether the issue is that my iPad doesn't have any apps that support plain text import. (I figured Pages would, but I suppose perhaps not, since it will attempt and fail to load any files with the extension .pages, regardless of UTI). Any seasoned OS X developers that can help on this?

  • NSFetchedResultsController not processing certain section driven moves

    - by JK
    I utilize a NSFetchedResultsController (frc) with a Core Data store. I implement all the frc delegate methods. The table is sporadically updated by background threads. All the inserts, deletes and updates work fine, with the exception that updates to the frc's index key for rows toward to the bottom of the table (50 rows), do not result in a section move. e.g. if "name" is the index key and the name "Victor" is changed to "Alex", the victor row now shows the name Alex, but is not moved to the top of the table alongside all other names starting with A. As I noted, this is only for rows towards the bottom of the table. If a row like "Andy" is changed to "Ben", the move is indeed processed correctly by the frc. Any suggestions to fix this would be appreciated. I do not use a frc cache. Thanks

  • performSelector:withObject:afterDelay: not working from scrollViewDidZoom

    - by oldbeamer
    Hi all, I feel like I should know this but I've been stumped for hours now and I've run out of ideas. The theory is simple, the user manipulates the zoom and positioning in a scrollview using a pinch. If they hold that pinch for a short period of time then the scrollview records the zoom level and content offsets. So I thought I'd start a performSelector:withObject:withDelay on the scrollViewDidZoom delegate method. If it expires then I record the settings. I delete the scheduled call every time scrollViewDidZoom is called and when the pinch gesture finishes. This is what I have: - (void)scrollViewDidZoom:(UIScrollView *)scrollView{ NSLog(@"resetting timer"); [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(positionLock) object:nil]; [self performSelector:@selector(positionLock) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.4]; } -(void)positionLock{ NSLog(@"position locked "); } - (void)scrollViewDidEndZooming:(UIScrollView *)scrollView withView:(UIView *)view atScale:(float)scale{ NSLog(@"deleting timer"); [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(positionLock) object:nil]; } This is the output: 2010-05-19 22:43:01.931 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:01.964 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.231 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.253 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.269 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.298 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:05.399 deleting timer As you can see the delay between the last and second last events should have been more than enough for the delayed selector call to execute. If I replace performSelector:withObject:withDelay with plain old performSelector: I get this: 2010-05-19 23:08:30.333 resetting timer 2010-05-19 23:08:30.333 position locked 2010-05-19 23:08:30.366 resetting timer 2010-05-19 23:08:30.367 position locked 2010-05-19 23:08:30.688 deleting timer Which isn't what I want but serves to show that it's only the delay that's causing it to not function, not something to do with the selector not being declared in the header, being misspelt or any other reason. Any ideas as to why it's not working?
